Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Shadowy Links to the Past ❯ The Park ( Chapter 16 )
I felt kinda bad for the unintended "cliffhanger", so here is the next chapter in just 3 days! Hey Calupe, this is for you! ;)
Calupe: Thanks for the review!
Disclaimer: No, I don't own Yugioh. And the spells are from the Internet as always.

Chapter 16: The Park
Sekhmet easily found her way back to Yugi's place, focusing on Yami's presence as a guide. She summoned the green flames once more, and climbed back through the window. She then shut it closed as gently as she could, and headed back to her room. Sekhmet was about to let herself back into the room, but froze suddenly, hand on the door knob. Something wasn't right here. Hesitantly, she turned the door knob and slowly pushed the door open. She felt the wall closest to her for the small switch thing that Yugi had shown her earlier. Her fingers brushed over it, and she flicked it up, lights illuminating the room. Her eyes quickly swept over the room, resting on the chair in the far corner. Or rather, on the person sitting in that chair, arms and legs crossed, a worried expression on his face.
"Yami," Sekhmet said quietly as she shut the door, "what in Ra's name are you doing in here?"
"Worrying about you," Yami stated simply. He got up from his chair and walked over to her, drawing her into a gentle embrace. Once she was securely in his arms, Yami spoke again. "When I suddenly could no longer feel your presence in the house, I panicked and rushed over to your room, only to find it empty. I had feared that Marik had gotten to you, but I couldn't go searching for you since Yugi was still here, asleep. I couldn't leave him unprotected. I-I'm sorry."
"No, beloved, I'm the one who should be apologizing. I shouldn't have worried you so." She nuzzled her cheek against his, and Yami gladly returned the affection.
After a few silent moments, Yami spoke. "Where did you go?"
His sorceress sighed. "I felt that dark magick again. So this time I went after it…"
"And…?"
Sekhmet took a slow breath. "It's Gwydion," she said quietly.
Yami's eyes widened. "Gwydion? But he's a Seeker! I thought that the Seekers were on our side." He shook his head. "Those Council members seemed rather set against the use of dark magick. I wonder why they haven't put a stop to their own using dark magick." Yami remembered the "deal" they had made with Dwenny. They wanted her death for using dark magick just once. And here this Gwydion person had used it twice in one night, and had yet to be reprimanded? Something was not right here.
Sekhmet voiced his concerns. "Then perhaps the Council is not all that is seems…What should we do?"
Yami considered this thoughtfully. "For now, we wait. Since Gwydion does not seem to be an immediate threat, we should focus on Marik and on finding the third dark force."
The sorceress nodded her agreement. "We should get some sleep then. We'll need our rest for the battles to come…"
Yami gently brushed back some of her long bangs with one hand, then pressed his forehead to hers. "I'm so glad that you are here with me…" he whispered.
"Yes, our reunion has been long overdue." Sekhmet leaned in and passionately kissed him on the lips. Yami returned the kiss just as passionately. Long moments later, they reluctantly pulled away, releasing each other. Yami pulled open the door and stepped into the dark hall. Turning, he said with a smile, "Sleep well, my love."
"And you, beloved."
Yami gently shut the door, then walked back to Yugi's room.
*************************
The next morning was spent debating on what to do. Sekhmet wanted to find Marik with a spell and go on the offensive, but the ancient Pharaoh argued against that. His reasoning was that they'd have a better chance fighting him on their ground, rather than his. Yugi had to agree with Yami: they had no idea what sort of resources Marik had, and by chasing after him they could be falling into a trap. Sekhmet finally agreed to stay on the defensive for now, and so they formed a few defensive plans. Yami and Yugi found that they could still communicate telepathically through the Millennium Puzzle, so they didn't have to worry as much whenever they weren't together.
After a quick lunch, the trio headed for the park, where they were going to meet Yugi's friends. Soon, Yami and Sekhmet split off on their own, walking hand in hand down one of the many trails. The scenery was much nicer now that it was daylight. Less…threatening, uncertain, it seemed. They found the dragon fountain easily, and sat down on one of the many benches circling it, Sekhmet resting her head on Yami's shoulder. They sat in silence, enjoying each other's company and listening to the water falling behind them.
Suddenly, Sekhmet's entire body tensed up, and she lifted her head off of Yami's shoulder. She took a quick glance around, her dark green eyes narrowed.
"What do you sense?" Yami asked in a concerned voice.
"It can't be…" Sekhmet whispered, her voice edged with fear.
"What can't be?" Yami felt her fear, and tightened his arm around her shoulders in response.
"I feel…that the High Priest is close…" She stared straight ahead of her, as if in a trance.
Yami's eyes widened. Then he saw what Sekhmet was staring at: a tall, brown haired boy was standing a ways away from them, talking to a much shorter black haired boy. He carried a metal briefcase with him. Kaiba! Yami remembered what Ishizu had told him, that he and Kaiba were destined to duel in final battle, since Kaiba was the reincarnation of the High Priest. Yami now understood Sekhmet's sudden fear: the High Priest after all had killed her, and seeing Kaiba must have triggered her memories of her death…
Sekhmet suddenly stood up. This boy who resembled the High Priest certainly did not feel like an evil threat, but she wasn't going to take any chances. The sorceress was about to walk closer to him, but a hand on her arm stopped her. She turned and looked down at Yami, who was looking at her with concerned eyes.
"I know what you're feeling right now, how angry you are, but Kaiba is *not* a threat. In this life, his only concerns seem to be being the best duelist. He is *not* the High Priest that we knew…"
Sekhmet considered this for a moment, then silently nodded her head. She was about to sit back down, noticing that the Kaibas had left anyways, when a voice rang out in the silence.
"I was hoping you'd show up here…with *him*."
Sekhmet turned towards the familiar voice. It was Gwydion. The blonde boy casually made his way toward her and Yami, his hands clasped behind his back. Upon seeing him, Yami immediately stood up as well. He wrapped a protective arm around Sekhmet's waist, and gave Gwydion a warning look: Don't you *dare* try to harm her, or else…
Gwydion narrowed his eyes at Yami. So, the spirit was no longer a spirit- he had a body now. Good, easier for him to get rid of him then. Once this Yami was out of the picture, then Sekhmet, and her power, would be all his.
"What do you want, Gwydion? I already told you I'm *not* interested." Sekhmet did not like how he was looking at her beloved.
Gwydion grinned evilly. " I'm going to *prove* to you why you should choose ME." He withdrew his hands from behind his back, revealing a strange object in one of them. It was a blood red stone, cut in an odd fashion, with several different runes etched onto its surface. Sekhmet recognized those as evil runes. "I'm going to trap his soul in this stone, and when I shatter it, his soul will also be shattered!" He laughed wildly.
Not if I can help it… Sekhmet thought to herself, already mentally beginning to summon her magick.
The blonde Seeker raised his arms, stone in one hand. He summoned his darkest magick. "Outside of time, outside of gain. Know only sorrow, know only pain!"
Yami's eyes widened as dark blue energy tentacles seeped out from Gwydion's fingers, and made their way slowly toward them. He was about to push Sekhmet protectively behind him, but Sekhmet raised her own arm and shouted in clear voice, "We stand in circles of light, so that nothing may cross! Light and fire, protect us from the dark!"
Shining green flames erupted from the ground around them, forming a protective shield around them. The blue tentacles bounced harmlessly off of them, but nonetheless kept coming after them. However, Sekhmet's spell was stronger than Gwydion's, so they remained unharmed.
"NO!" Gwydion shouted angrily. This wasn't supposed to happen! His spell should have easily overpowered hers. He'll have to figure out another way to get rid of that pest Yami. *Without* Sekhmet's interference. "I'll have you yet, Sekhmet!" he shouted as he stomped away, already thinking of his next plan.
Sekhmet slowly let out the breath she had been holding, as well as letting her shield fall. She breathed a sigh of relief as Yami wrapped her in a comforting hug. "Thank you, my love…" he whispered into her ear.
Just then, Yugi burst into the clearing. He had felt danger coming from his mind link wit Yami, then had seen the bright green light as he rushed toward them. "Are you guys okay?" he asked breathlessly. "What happened?"
Yami sighed as he released Sekhmet, then began to tell Yugi about Gwydion.
