She Who Solved the Puzzle

Chapter 6: The Return

Timeline: Lets say, two weeks after the homecoming dance. Night time.

Place: Liz's Bedroom.

Liz was tossing and turning all night in her sleep. Yami could sense that something was wrong so he got out of his soul room and went to check on her. As soon as he opened the door, the room didn't look like it usually did. 'Seems that she's dreaming again.' Yami would have just left her room to let her dream but as he was just about to leave he noticed he saw himself back in Ancient Egypt sitting in his throne room with a man wearing all white with a white turban on his head standing in front of him. 'What is she dreaming about?' he leaned on her doorway.

"Are you sure that my dynasty will end with me, Shadi?" The Pharaoh Yami asked Shadi.

"Yes. A sacrifice must be made to Amen-Re so that he himself may come down and stop the shadow realm from doing harm to the kingdom." Shadi responded.

"I'll have one of the prisoners sacrificed at once for the ceremony." He was about to raise his hand to assure the command but he was stopped. "No Highness. A chosen one must be sacrificed so that Ra may come down here." He said.

"Find me this chosen one then." He commanded.

"That will be extremely hard, Sire." He mumbled. "Why is that? Just go find her!" he yelled. " The only way to find the chosen one is…" Shadi drifted off.

"Is how?!" he demanded an answer.

"Is to allow the prophecy to uphold its destiny, my lord." He said with anxiety.

"I must do what?! Are you telling me to get myself captured into the sacred puzzle just to find the chosen one!? That's just meaningless. It will be too late by the time someone will find it and let alone solve it!" he got up from his chair. "If I get sealed I wont be even be able to stay in this time!"

"There is a way Highness." He said and the pharaoh stopped his ranting. "Go on." He said as he sat down again. "The chosen one will solve the puzzle, then a gateway will be created to come back to this time and complete the prophecy and all will be well." He concluded. "I see. Then the evil will be gone from my kingdom for good." He smiled with confidence. "Yes Highness." He bowed her head. "You are dismissed. Return to guard the rest of the millennium items." He waved him off." Yes Pharaoh." He bowed and left the room.

Soon the whole scenery faded away and showed Liz's soul room back to normal and it appeared that she was asleep. Yami got up from when he was leaning on her doorway and went up to her bed and tried to wake her up. "Mmmph" was all she said. He shook her again. "No no…::sighed:: five more minutes." And again he shook her. " Ah god damn it leave me the fuck alone!" she yelled but not moving and went back to sleep. This time Yami just pushed her off the bed. THUMP! Was heard and Liz completely woke up. "Ah shit earthquake! Huh? What the hell Yami!? Its not even four in the morning and you wake my ass up!" She got quiet when she saw his face all serious. "Yo Yami? What's up? Why you look like that?" she asked and got up and went to sit on her bed. He still stood there and walked in front of her. " Do you remember the dream you just had?" he asked, looking down at her and crossing his arms. " No. But I know I did dream but I just forgot it." She laughed scratching behind her head. "Did you see what I dreamt this time?"

"Yes, something about winning a million dollars and getting everything you wanted." He lied to her. "Sweet! I wish I knew what I got." She sighed. "Well Yami. I'm gonna go back to sleep." She crawled into her bed and snuggled up in her covers. "Night again Yami." She drifted off. "Goodnight Liz." He left her room for his own. He went to his bed and started to think. "I remember that day. Since Liz is the chosen one, she would have to-"he cut himself off," No no. There will be another way. I will not let her die. Not after all the things we've been through together. I want to protect her. I will protect her." With that as his final thought he too fell asleep.

Place: The park……………………&hellip ;………………………&h ellip;……………………..

"Bakura, you hit the damn ball upwards you bloody idiot." Andrea yelled to him after he caught the ball and explaining to him many times how to play volleyball. "Well sorry you damned whore! I forgot! I never played this game!" He stuck out his tongue at her. "Fuck you Bakura!" She flicked him off. "Just tell me where and I'll see you in a few minutes." He smirked. "You damned perv! Not like that!" Liz was just plain laughing on the other side of the volleyball court while Yami was just shaking his head smiling. "Hey Yami." She still lightly laughed," What is it?" he asked still smiled and looked at her. "How come you always win at all the games we play?"

"I already told you. I'm the King of Games." He said in his usual tone. "I just thought it was in the shadow realm. Not in all the games in the world!" Liz said.

"It's a natural instinct I was just born with it." He looked at the back of his hand and pretended to shine his nails on his shirt and looked at his nails to show that he was tiny bit conceited. Still on the other side of the court, Bakura and Andrea still bickering at each other for what seemed for eternity until Bakura had got quiet and a look of triumph was on Andrea's face. "What did you tell him?" Liz asked Andrea.

"Just to shut up or he will be in the closet all night tonight." She smiled and patted Bakura on the back. "There now good boy. Now", she hoped on his back, " for some me and you time! Onward Mighty Bakura!" he groaned as he walked carrying her on his walking away from Liz and Yami. "Ahhh…. well they are a couple that's for sure." She sighed. "Have fun with your alone time!" Liz yelled to them. "You know we will!" she yelled. "Shut up!" Bakura yelled soon after Andrea's hand met with his head. Liz just laughed. The kept on walking till she fell of and slapped her hand up on his head and she ran away from him laughing. Bakura yelled and started chasing her again.

"And there they go again. Running a muk." Liz sighed. "Well lets go do something ourselves then." Yami said as he took her hand and let it go when he turned her around and started walking on away from the court with Liz following behind him heading for the grassy area of the park with some huge trees. "Lets stay here." Yami suggested as he took of his blue jacket and set it on the floor and laid on it and patting on the floor next to him for Liz to join him. Liz cocked an eyebrow, but later shook it off and went to the floor also putting her head on his jacket. "Hmmm…. never would of thought that your jacket was comfy on the inside. You don't usually take it off." Liz said staring off into the endless blue sky. " It was cold but its nice weather out for either with or without a jacket." He responded. "Liz looked to her right and saw his face and continued to move her eyes to see his peach colored muscled arms. 'Wow. He must work out. Ya know, he aint bad lookin' either. I wonder if back in Egypt he had a…no no like I said before. No more of this kind of bullshit. Not one guy on this earth wants a chick like me.' She mentally sighed to herself and went back to watching the sky. They stared at the sky silently until Yami broke the silence. "You know, every night I find you crying in your soul room and yet you don't remember when you do. I know you're lying so just tell me what goes on in that head of yours since I can't do it myself." Yami said not taking his eyes of the sky.

"Ok since you hang around me too much anyway I might as well tell you." She took a deep breath." You remember the homecoming incident?" she asked." Yes. Why?" he turned his head to see her but she never took her eyes off of the sky. "Well I guess I wanted to be the hero and save my sister and I did with you and Bakura. Its just that when I got slashed I didn't care since I just had to think about Andrea and save her from that jackass."

"And what does that event have to do with your behavior of people coming first then you second?" he asked.

"Its just that. Friends and family are my first priorities then me, but since I'm the one usually helping other people and saving their asses…I just sometimes ask…what about me, ya know?" Yami's face softened. "People usually come to me for their problems and ask me to help fight their fights but when I have a problem who do I turn to? I cant turn to my friends since they are the ones coming to me. To them I'm really a strong person and cant back down from anything and I save them from harm which is true. But when I get into some shit who is gonna save my ass? When I got slashed by that bastard I wanted to know who could've saved me or pushed me outta the way? I was saving Andrea but what about me? Just because I'm strong doesn't mean I cant cry. I guess I just feel like protecting everyone since no one can protect me." she sighed. "Well that's how I really feel Yami. Now you know."

"You can always talk to you're friends no matter what to at least talk about the situation. Its not very good to just keep it bottled in. Since I'm stronger than you, you can now turn to me for what ever reason. You know that."

"I guess that true. Thanks Yami. I guess I was just looking for somebody to share this with." She patted him on the shoulder now looking at him. "Your welcome. Just one more question." She nodded signaling for him to ask. "When I first came out, you said there were new dangers in the world but whenever you said it you seemed to drift off. Why is that?" he asked and Liz now had a worried look on her face but shook it off. " I was bound to tell you sooner or later. Well it all happened like this:

(Liz's Pov mode. Last year when she was 16)

God damn I'm bored. I really am bored. Being stuck in the hospital hoping that your baby cousin is ok from a yet another fight can really ruin your day! The boy is only 12 and he gets his but whooped and he goes looking for trouble. What a dumbass. I see him walking out of his room with a cast on his forearm and him telling me that he broke it. I slap his head and he tells me that hurt instead of the forearm breaking. Fuckin' A he's ok. Its not like I don't care about him. Don't get me wrong I do, its just that this is his what? 18th time in the hospital. Practically all the doctors and nurses know him now. Ah fuck it whatevers. His momma gonna flip out again from yet another hospital bill. Ha! Sucks to be him.

We were all walking and nearing the exit and I was walking ahead of them so I didn't know when they stopped. I got out of the hospital and I see a guy sitting on the floor with his shoulder covered in what looks like a blood patch. I'm like damn. Another dude got shot. Least that's what I thought. Next to him was a car and a guy leaped out carrying a gun to be some sort of a sniper threatening him. I tried to run back inside but the sniper bastard caught me and said if I moved he would take a shot up under my ass. I was so scared I think I almost pissed in my pants! Anyway as I was saying, I just kept on saying to the guy was "Don't shoot! Please just don't shoot!" I said in my regular voice but yet pleading so I don't piss him off by annoying the shit out of him. My mom neared the door and saw me standing and a guy with a gun. She tried to run out but the guy that threatened me said to stay inside or I get shot. Damn all of sudden I'm everyone's favorite shooting target. The guy that was on the floor moved and get slowly got up behind the dude with the sniper. After he saw me he made movements with his hands that when he starts running I should start running in the opposite direction and I nodded my head to agree with him.

The man on the floor got up and started running away. The man with the gun told me to stay there and started chasing after the other man. After I saw that he was gone I turned to my mom and told her to call me up on my cell and she mouthed be careful. I nodded and I ran like a wife running away from her abusive husband. I didn't know I could run at such speeds when I'm fuckin' scared! I was running to the next block and I hear a shot. I past a tree and the tree was the one that got shot. "Oh shit!" I yelled. I turned back to see it was the guy with the sniper. I ran away into the darkness behind a car and he stopped. He fired more shots the car I was hiding in but he didn't know it was me that was behind it. The bullets went through the car and I was merely only two inches away from it. I heard footsteps running in the different direction and I heard sirens. After for what seemed like forever, which was only like hour, I got up and my mom called me on my cell phone. She says to come back to the hospital cause they caught the guy and that she knows the other guy is safe too. I was walking back to the hospital very slowly and I started to tear. I realized that I almost died tonight. I was scared shitless.

The next day I took a day off from school because I was still shakin' up with the whole ordeal last night. But I just had to realize that life is like that now. People kill people out of any type of anger. Life goes on no matter what mental state I was in. So I had to get this behind me. I did go to school the next day as if nothing like this ever happened.

(Reader Pov mode. Present.)

"…and the only people knew were Andrea and family…and now you." She started to tremble of remembering the event. She looked up at Yami who had a worried face on. "I'm glad you told me because I understand you just a little bit more now." She smiled to him of one of her rare smile that she only shares with Yami or Andrea. "No problem." She turned her face to stare up at the sky. "Now just to think about why you dress and act like a male." Yami smirked. "Yami! You already know why! Cause I'm just not that much of a chick! Now stop asking me!" She laughed. "Ok ok." He finished.

'She really isn't like other girls. She's not weak and has a very strong heart. She doesn't want any help at all from anyone and that's what gets me worried…after what she lived that year and I wasn't there to protect her…' he sighed and went back to staring at the sky.

/Yami?/

//Hmmm…?//

/Do you think that me…and…you could ever…be…never mind./

//Me and you could ever be what?// Now he was curious.

/Never mind just drop it./ she said.

"We're back! Did you guys miss us?" A happy go lucky Andréa asked. Liz and Yami got up from the floor and Yami picked up his jacket off of the floor and shook it to get all the grass off of it.

"Yeah Hermana! Can we go now?!" Liz whined.

"Yeah lets go home cause I'm fuckin tired." She yawned. "Bakura doesn't know when to let a girl win cause she always wins no matter what!" she grabbed his hand. "Isn't that right, Bakura?"

He sneered. "Yes. You're so lucky that you are a woman." He mumbled. "I agree with you Bakura." She said when she put her head on his shoulder. "Awwww. I gotta say you guys look so cute right now!" Liz said in a high girly voice while Bakura looked down on the ground and his face turning a shade of red. She coughed." I mean, come on lets go home." She said as they followed her to her car with the ball in Andrea's hands and they went home. After they left the ball in the house they all went to Liz's backyard. Yami and Bakura were at each other's throats about a pyramid being robbed and Liz and Andrea were chillen on top of the cars that were parked. "You told him didn't you?" Andrea asked out of the blue.

"Yeah I did when were at the park and you had you're alone time with Bakura." Liz chuckled. "You know for a week or two Yami has been looking at you in a whole new light." Liz turned to face her and cocked an eyebrow." What the fuck you do mean by that?" she asked with some anxiety in her voice. "You know exactly what I mean! He started to fall in love with you!" she squeaked. Liz's face just froze. "No he isn't! I cant believe you even said that!" she lightly hit her shoulder. "Remember what I always said. I never had a boyfriend cause of my attitude and my looks! And I'm ok with that. So don't get my fucking hopes up!" she said to her but then quickly realizes of what she had just said. "No no wait wait I didn't mean that! I-" she was cut off. "Oh my God! You like Yami! Well who the fuck knew? Even me your sister didn't even catch that one coming. Even though I didn't catch it right away I was getting an idea of it. When was the last time you had a crush on guy?" she asked.

"Back when I was young and my hormones were being stupid. But if you tell him that I like him I'm gonna kill you!" she threatened her with a chuckle coming later. "You know me. My lips are sealed." She concluded. "Phew! I swear man you are gonna gimme a damn heart attack." She said putting her hand on her chest. "So what about you? You gonna be Mrs. Bakura or wha?" she smiled. "Call it a…love hate relationship. But we are closer than that sometimes. But yea, that's all I'm gonna tell you." She winks at her." Damn Andrea! You mean you did-"Her mouth was covered by a hand. "No!" she took her hand down." Just to making out. Damn you're just as perverted as he is sometimes."

"Well I learn from the best, Sis. " they both laughed. "Sometimes being a girl sucks." Liz sighed. They lightly chuckled again. Liz turns her head. "Yay…sunset." She just said out of nowhere. When the sun just hit at the right angle of the mountain a ray of light came from the sun and hit the millennium puzzle that hit around her neck and it started to glow and float. "Yami." She called to him. Andrea was telling Bakura to stop fighting. "What is it Liz?" he turned to her. "Oh Ra! Its time!"

"What the fuck you mean 'Oh Ra! Its time!'? What the fuck does this shit mean?" she started to back up from the others. "Yami, what's going on? Why is the puzzle doin' this?" she asked restlessly.

"Its ok. Just calm down. I think the gateway will soon be opening." He said calmly.

"Calm?! You be calm when dis shit be happenin' to yo ass!" she panicked. Soon the puzzle let out an energy beam from the eye of the puzzle and created a gateway ripping through reality and the law of time, releasing a bright light causing Liz and the others covered their eyes. Without realizing it they were sucked into the gateway. When they opened their eyes they saw each other moving against time with many other gateways but revealing the same location…. Egypt.

Another bright light flashed and they again covered their eyes again and they all couldn't feel their each other's presences anymore. "NOOOOOOOO!" They all yelled in unison.

"AAAAHHHHHHHH!"THUMP~! Andrea hit the street in the middle of a town and the wind was knocked out of her and unconscious. A crowd unknowing to her starts to gather around her and mutter things of where she came from and how she dresses and other gossip going around.

Bakura started to fall from the big blue sky and fell into a deserted alleyway and landed on his side. "Oh Ra that fucking hurt!" he slowly got up and rubbed his arm. He looks around noticing where he is. "I'm back, I'm home. In the flesh!" He looked around. "Andrea? Andrea? Where'd you go you damned girl?" he walks around. "Where is she? Oh drat! That's right we did get separated! Now I have to go find her!" \\Andrea? Where are you?!\\

\Mmmph….\ was all he heard. Soon after he saw a bunch of people gathering around. He pushes everyone out of the way and sees Andrea on the floor. "What is the meaning of this?" A man wearing tall sandals, and carrying a spear came up to the crowed and they all looked at him. "It's a royal guard." A random person said in the crowd. The guard looked around. "There is nothing here." The crowd turns back to see nothing on the dirt road. "But there was someone was here!" "Yes, yes some odd girl was here!" Random comments were being shouted to the guard. "Enough!" the crowd gasped. " No one is here now go about your business!" he turned then left and that's what the crowd did.

"Looks like I just got to you in the nick of time didn't I?" Bakura said to Andrea who was now in his arms running away from the people. "Now back to the ol'e hideout. Its so good to say that again! " he smiled and ran.

"NOOOOOOOOO." Yami yelled falling from the sky. He saw to what appears to be a garden with a fountain. He landed in the grassy area flat on his back. "RA! That hurt…" he said in pain. He laid there for a while to really see where he was. "I'm home. Back in Egypt. MY Egypt." He slowly got up using the fountain as support and sat on its edge. "This isn't a dream. I really am home!" He smiled and sighed. "Liz can you believe this! I'm really home!" He turned around expecting to see her." Liz? Liz?" he checked behind the fountain. "Liz? Where'd you-" he remembered they were all separated in the gateway. He shut his eyes tight. "Oh Ra!" He slicked his hair back with his hand. "What am I going to do?" he sat on the fountain again. He heard running foot steps of a person. "Who could that be?" He got up and waited for the man to stop in front of him. The man did so and was panting."S-s-s-s Simon!?" Yami gasped.

"Yes Highness. Who did you think it was? The Dark Magician?" he got his act together. "I mean you alive! Oh my Simon how have I missed you!" Yami went to hug his mentor who he thought of as a father. "Of course I'm alive! Why wouldn't I be? Have you been smoking that plant that the peasants smoke?! Oh Pharaoh…I'm very disappointed in you…"Simon shook his head. "Oh Ra no! You know a pharaoh should always be professional." He paused. "You don't remember anything at all? Hieshin's betrayal? Me being sealed into the puzzle?" he looked at Simon's covered face. "Your Highness that's nonsense! I think you're just dreamt the whole thing!" He shook his head. "But how did you come across those clothes that you're wearing?" He looked at Yami's line of clothing of him wearing the blue leather outfit and the buckles he wore. 'He doesn't remember any of it! I must have been sent back all the way to the time before Hieshin's betrayal. Must be what the part of the prophecy Shady said. I just hope Liz is ok and everyone else. "Oh these? Well I just saw them in the streets and so I just picked them up and decided to wear them around the palace." He laughed. "If you say so your majesty." Simon said. "Now lets you out of those clothes and into some nice clothes that people can tell that you're the pharaoh." Yami just shook his head and they both left for Yami's chamber.

//Liz? Liz? Please be ok.// he couldn't get her through the mental link.

"THIS IS NOT GOOD! OHHH SHIT!" she yelled falling from the sky. She could clearly see where she was going to land. "ON SAND!? THIS IS GONNA HURT LIKE A-" THUMP! Was heard. She landed on her side and was unharmed. "That…hurt." She said slowly. She sat up and picked up a handful of sand and let her fingers release it to the wind. "Great…just great. I'm stuck here all by myself cause I'm the only on who cursed. Oh great! I'm talking to myself." She got up slowly and wiped the sand off of her clothes. "My favorite pants. I love my raver pants! And my shirt! Ahh crap! ::sigh:: Oh well." She shook it off. "Now to look for a town 'n' shit."she started walking. /Yami! Yami! Where the fuck are you?! Yami where for art thou Yami?!/ no response. "Fuck. I don't know where to go." She looks around and sees nothing but sand. "NO NO NO NO NO!" she yelled. "I need to do that. Well now to start walking and boy this is gonna suck!" she groaned and started walking in a direction and a wind blew by. "Not that way." The wind blew against her. "What?" she asked. "Go this way." She was going where the wind was blowing. "Who are you?" she look around. "You'll know soon enough. Just go this way and you'll find him." The wind said. "Ok. You better be right! I'm just gonna play along with my insainity so I can sound sane! I'm not even sure if that makes any sense at all!"

"Shut up and go." The wind whispered. "Touchy…" Liz couldn't help but laugh and walked into the direction the wind went. "I hope you're right because I don't see a town in site…" she drifted off. "What a day to wear black…." She sighed.
