The Butcher of Cairo
The pharaoh opened his eyes and stretched as the morning rays illuminated the royal chambers. The pharaoh shifted his eyes, knowing there was supposed to be the beaten, bloody, and broken body of Bakura Itemri, the King of Thieves. Yami rolled over and found….
Bakura gone!!!!
Bakura had escaped!
Yami jumped out of bed furiously. The only evidence that remained of Bakura's presence was dried blood on the linens and the ropes dangled over the head of the bed. The pharaoh felt a slight chill and he looked down.
The Thief King had removed his clothes!
Yami clenched his fists and grit his teeth angrily. Someone was going to pay for this! How dare Bakura escape from him!
The pharaoh threw on a robe and ran out of his room. “SETH! GUARDS! GUARDS!”
Yami ran to Seth's room nearby and threw open the door.
Seth jumped and Aria was startled awake by Yami's abrupt entrance.
“Seth! That Bakura Itemri escaped!”
Aria rubbed her eyes. “What's going on?”
Ten guards ran to Yami. “Your worship! You called?”
Yami turned to the guards. “You simpletons! You worthless idiots! Bakura Itemri escaped!”
Aria smiled. “My daddy estaped?! YEAH, DADDY!”
Yami turned to Aria furiously. “You hold your tongue, you insolent little bitch!”
Aria whimpered and clung to Seth shaking.
“How dare you let Bakura escape! You get your asses out of the palace and you look for him! FIND HIM AND SLIT HIS THROAT! KILL HIM!”
Aria trembled. “Daddy…..”
“I want his body brought back to me! His body belongs to me! I want Bakura dead!”
Seth held onto the frightened child and kissed her forehead. “It's okay, Aria.”
The guards bowed. “Yes,sir.”
“Bring back Ishtar, too! His head would make a good trophy! NOW GET YOUR ASSES OUT OF HERE AND FIND THEM!”
Yami breathed heavily as he watched the guards scurry out of the room quickly. Aria pressed herself against Seth, terrified, as Yami turned towards them both.
“Bakura thinks he can run from me? Well, I'll make sure that he will be mine for eternity! This will not go unpunished!” Yami angrily left the room.
Aria shivered in Seth's arms. “The pharaoh's going to hurt my daddy, Seth. I don't want him to hurt my daddy!”
Seth held the crying child in his arms, rocking her slowly.
*******************************
Yami walked through the gardens furiously, holding a candle. He walked to the boundary of the gardens and lit the candle using one of the torches. He looked around to make certain no one was watching. He stepped through the stone and entered a hidden library that had been protected by an ancient magic.
The candle illuminated the dark hidden room where scrolls and books lined the shelves.
Yami put the candle on the large table in the room. “I will make Bakura pay for abandoning me! He will regret his actions severely!”
Yami opened one of the scrolls. “Ancient Magic. I already have this place protected. What's this? Shadow Magic?.....'It is said that Shadow Magic was one way that the ancients had gained power. Shadow Magic was truly a force to be reckoned with.' I think I found what I needed! `Shadow Magic is required to give the Millennium Items their power.' Millennium Items? `Whomever holds these Millennium Items, once collected and their powers combined, will be the most powerful being on Earth. The power over Life and Death shall be theirs. The Millennium Ring grants the power to erase minds and separate the soul from the body. The Millennium Rod grants the power to control those minds. The Millennium Necklace grants the power to read the future, a valuable object. The Millennium Eye allows one to see more than can be perceived with the naked eye. The Scales weighs a person's heart against his word. The Millennium Key unlocks the power of the mind. The ultimate power lies within the Millennium Puzzle. Gathering the Items and focusing their power is impossible without the Millennium Puzzle. When these Items are combined, their power becomes unmatchable.'” Yami grinned, pleased with himself. “What's this? `Their power is unmatched, with the exception of the lost Items, the Millennium Trident and the Scepter of Ra.” Yami's eyes widened. “The Millennium Trident and the Scepter of Ra?! Where's the Book of Prophecy?!” Yami grabbed a black book off of the shelf. “Those two items were mentioned in here! I know! Here! `The Millennium Trident will be in the possession of the girl who stands against Tyranny and Greed. The girl, born of Low Blood, will challenge the Pharaoh who seeks the power that only the Millennium Items offer. In her eighteenth year, this item shall fall into her hands and with it, challenge the Great Pharaoh.' Girl of low blood? This girl must live in the palace! A commoner could not possibly win against me!....let alone a female! I must handle this delicately. What about the Scepter of Ra? It says `The male child of the family ****** shall wield the Scepter of Ra. Great power lies in the fiery gem which adorns this item. Its golden spikes are as the Great God of the Sun. Beware of the boy who wilds this item.'”
Yami growled. “A common girl?! A boy from what family? I can't make it out!” Yami returned to the scroll.
“What have we here? `Shadow Magic has the ability to release a soul from the body and seal it into an object. The soul remains trapped in a Realm of Shadow unless summoned by someone on the mortal plane.' Their soul remains trapped? Why only have Bakura's body when I could own his soul, too? What better way to own someone than possess their soul and make them survive in a world of Dark Shadows for eternity? I will have to test this out.”
Yami rolled up the scroll and carried the candle out of the hidden room.
His mind was furious over Bakura abandoning him. It was best to try this on someone who would either not run away or be too afraid to move.
Yami walked to the arena where the young boys sparred. Yami's eyes watched each boy intently. Who would make a good sacrifice for the test?
Aten laughed. “Hamadi, hold the dagger like this. It makes it easier.”
Yami watched Hamadi growl playfully at Aten as he held his dagger, his little feet digging into the sand. Hamadi's black hair slightly blew in the breeze. Yami's eyes caressed the youth, watching him intently.
Yami walked up to the two boys. Both boys looked up at Yami and kneeled before the pharaoh. Aten's body shivered in fear at the monarch hovering above him.
Yami reached down and grabbed Hamadi by the back of his tattered clothing. “You are coming with me, boy! I am in need of your services.” Yami picked the trembling boy up by the arm roughly.
The helpless child dangled in the grip of the pharaoh.
Aten looked up. “Sir, please don't hurt Hamadi!”
Yami turned and kicked Aten onto the sand. “You will speak when spoken to!”
Ravana ran over to Aten. “Are you okay?”
Hamadi turned back towards Aten and Ravana. With a sad look he waved goodbye to them.
Aten sniffled. “Hamadi…..”
**************************
Yami collapsed forward on his frozen victim. He grinned down at Hamadi.
“I have enjoyed your…..services…..Hamadi.”
The little boy clenched his fists and trembled as the pharaoh leaned down to kiss his neck again.
The boy clenched the linens under him as Yami pulled away.
Yami looked at the scroll on his table and walked over to it casually. He read the excerpt regarding the soul.
“The soul must be taken from the underworld. I do not have the Millennium Ring, so I cannot separate your soul from you, Hamadi. I will have to send your soul to the Underworld to make this work.”
Yami grabbed his gold dagger and approached his panting, sobbing victim.
The pharaoh grabbed his victim's hair and pulled it back, exposing the back of his neck.
Hamadi trembled and let out a scream. “ATEN!”
Yami raked the blade across the child's throat and tossed the child onto the bed. The child's body twitched and trembled as his body leaked vital blood.
Yami looked down at his victim casually and crossed his legs, waiting for the child to slowly bleed to death.
`This boy may be the one that stands against me in the future. I cannot risk that happening,' Yami thought as he watched the child's body slowly relax, its body twitching as his death approached.
Yami turned the child over on its back and saw the child's chest slowly stop inhaling.
Yami grinned at the bloody bed linens and watched the child take its last breath.
Yami grabbed the child by the arm and pulled his lifeless body up. He released it and the dead child fell back on the bed lifeless…..still.
The pharaoh walked calmly over to the scroll and picked it up. He walked over to the tiny corpse on the bed and read from the scroll.
“Ancient Magic, hear my cry
Come to me, on swift wings fly!
Carry the soul of this child from Anubis!
Return his soul into his mortal corpse!”
A moment later, the dead child let out a garbled scream through his sliced neck. Yami staggered back as the child gripped his neck in pain and rolled off of the bed.
“I must seal his soul away in something!” Yami looked at the wall. “I'll seal him in the stone and see if it works.
`Ancient Magic, take this soul,
Seal it into the stone this soul I stole
From death's cold, dark grip
Begin this child's immortal trip!'”
The two year old child's body went limp as his soul was sealed into the stone of Yami's wall. The wall suddenly began to reveal an image of Hamadi kneeling with his arms crossed in front of his chest.
Below read the inscription: The Helpless Child.
Yami looked down at the bruised and bloody dead body of the two year old boy. He picked up the dead child by the arm. `Time to dispose of this worthless thing.'
*********************************
Aten ran around the corner and peeked around to see if Ravana was following him. Aten let out a laugh and crept along the royal gardens, keeping his eyes and ears out for Ravana's approach.
Ravana turned the corner and let out a squeal. “I found you, Aten!”
Aten turned as he ran away from Ravana. “You have to catch me first!”
Aten ran through the gardens and into the back where the slaves were washing the linens.
Aria was backing up and didn't look where she was going. Aten knocked Aria into the tub of water. The little girl splashed and coughed as she saw the culprits running away. “Hey!”
Aria crawled out of the water and pursued the two boys. She ran around the corner and knocked into Aten. She fell back and growled.
”What is the big idea?”
”What is the big idea?”
Aten and Ravana stood silently. Aria walked around to the two boys and put her hand on her hips.
“You say you sorry for pushing me into that water!”
Aten's bottom lip trembled and his eyes widened ahead of him.
“What is it?!” Aria screamed as she turned around.
Aria stopped moving. “What….is that?”
Aten's eyes filled with tears as he crept towards the dead child on the ground. Ravana approached silently. Aria followed as she covered her mouth in surprise.
Aten kneeled beside Hamadi and reached out to touch the two year old's shoulder. “Hamadi?”
The evening wind blew through the dead child's hair.
Ravana's fingers traced the slit throat of the corpse. “I don't think he's going to wake up.”
Aten took Hamadi's shoulders. “Hamadi? Please….wake up.”
Aria started sobbing. “He's hurt….He's bleeding like my daddy.”
Aten let out a choked cry as he leaned over and hugged Hamadi's body. “Hamadi! Wake up! Please! Why won't you wake up?”
Ravana looked up, crying, and saw the High Priest standing over them. Ravana sniffled. “My Lordship, Hamadi won't wake up.”
Seth saw the child on the ground and he clenched his fist. Seth kneeled beside Hamadi and looked at the mark on the child's collarbone. There was a red burn on the child's collarbone.
This was the mark of the pharaoh.
Anubis didn't murder this child.
Yami murdered this child.
“Seth….why won't Hamadi move?” Aria asked with large brown eyes.
Seth took a deep breath and held Aria close to him. “Because he is dead, Aria.”
Aten sobbed. “Hamadi….you can't be dead!”
“What's that, Seth?” Aria asked.
“Death…is when your physical body no longer moves. Your soul and your spirit have left your body to enter the underworld.”
Aria sniffled. “Hamadi won't move anymore?”
Seth shook his head sadly at the child who had suffered so much at the hands of he general and the pharaoh. “No, Aria.”
Aria sobbed again.
Ravana sniffled. “He's like the people in our village that the army killed.”
Aten leaned down and kissed Hamadi on the forehead. “Hamadi….”
Seth heard footsteps approaching and he held Aria close to him. Anubis walked over to the High Priest and looked down.
“High Priest, what happened here?”
Aten and Ravanna sobbed. “We were playing…and….we found Hamadi dead!”
Anubis leaned down and inspected the child's cut throat. “Yeah, he's dead, alright. Great. Now I have to replace him! Oh well, he was a worthless soldier anyway. Aten, Ravana, time to get your asses to bed.”
“But….Hamadi needs to be buried.”
“The dogs will eat him by morning, now go!”
Ravana helped Aten to his feet and the two crying boys walked away.
“Anubis, they just lost their friend. Try to be a little understanding.”
Anubis scoffed. “This child had no promise anyway as a soldier. He's better off this way to me. I don't know why the pharaoh left the child here. It belongs out here.”
Seth narrowed his eyes as Anubis walked away carrying the dead child by the arm. Anubis approached the city gate where the hungry dogs were already fighting over the scraps of food tossed into the gutter.
“Here's more meat, pooches,” Anubis called as the foaming, snarling dogs caught eye of their feast.
Seth covered Aria's ears and held her close to his body. “Let's go, Aria. This is not for your eyes to see nor for your ears to hear.”
***************************
Yami sat on his throne as Seth entered his throne room with Aria. “Oh, my wonderful High Priest! To what do I owe the pleasure of this visit?”
“You murdered that child. Why?”
Yami stood up. “I have found a way to become immortal and have ultimate power over the people of Egypt…and the known world.”
“What are you talking about?”
Yami approached Seth. “I can take people's souls and seal them in rock. I can summon them when I wish! I can lock their souls away!”
Seth shook his head. “You can't do that.”
Yami grinned. “Follow me.”
Seth and Aria followed him to his room.
“I can be the most powerful pharaoh in Egypt! And if I seal myself into a Millennium Item, I can be immortal and powerful. People will cower at my feet.”
Seth followed Yami and narrowed his eyes. `He's dangerous as a mortal. If he was immortal….he could be a plague on Egypt.'
Yami entered his room and showed Seth the wall of stone.
Aria shrieked. “HAMADI!”
Seth went white at the vision of the boy in the stone. Below read `The Helpless Child'.
Yami smiled. “Watch this….THE HELPLESS CHILD, I SUMMON YOU! PROTECT ME!”
Hamadi appeared in front of his stone kneeling with his arms crossed in front of him. His head was lowered.
Aria ran to Hamadi. “Hamadi, are you okay?”
Hamadi kneeled silently.
“Please talk to me.”
Hamadi did not respond.
“Watch this. Hamadi, attack!”
Aria jumped back as Hamadi stood up with his arms at his side and his head lowered.
Seth shook his head. “This is wrong, my pharaoh.”
“If you can get ultimate power, Seth, wouldn't you want to do whatever it takes. I needed to kill that child and seal his soul away. I needed to test the ancient magic…..and he could have revolted against me.”
Seth clenched his fists. “He was only a two year old! How much threat could he have been?”
“Children grow up, Seth. There's a girl who is going to stand against me when she turns eighteen. I cannot let anyone stop me from completing my plans.”
Seth looked down at the soul of the child and shook his head. “I cannot agree with this, my pharaoh.”
“Well, Seth, you have no choice. I must prepare for when these two insolent commoners fight me! I won't let them win! Helpless Child, be gone!”
Hamadi disappeared and Aria ran up to the stone knocking on it.
“Hamadi, come back out! Please!”
Seth called to Aria. “Don't hurt your hand, Aria. Come here. My pharaoh, this is madness! Please reconsider!”
“I will not! I will claim the power which is rightfully mine!”
Aria ran to Seth and wrapped her arms around his leg.
“I will be victorious and powerful!”
Seth took Aria's hand. “I will have no part of this!”
Seth turned to leave. “Summon my slave girl when you leave. I need my feet washed.”
Seth left with Aria and Yami sat on his bed.
“I'm going to get this power and make it mine!”
His six year old servant girl walked into his room marrying a bowl of water and a cloth. “I have come to wash your feet, sire.”
Yami watched the girl kneel at his feet. He dipped the cloth into the bowl of water and began washing his feet.
Yami looked over at the dagger on his bedside table that had killed Hamadi.
Yami reached over and grabbed the dagger.
The child picked his feet up and washed the bottom of his feet.
Yami raised the dagger and plunged it into the child's back. The girl let out a scream and she fell forward dead at his feet.
“Nobody will stop me from getting the power that I deserve!”
