He walked through the school courtyard, eyes coldly transfixed on the ground as he blocked the cheerful talking from his mind. He had arrived at the same time as the other and yet they still paid him no heed, just like so many mornings before. He had gotten used to it; gotten used to being ignored by so-called friends 24/7, had gotten used to not being asked out or even being called for. Now it was always "Yami this, Yami that", always his other half. Yuugi Mutou stole a glance at those bastards, hating them all for keeping him from the truth for so long. They had only tolerated him, had only pitied him. Today was the worst day of all though because it held one specific purpose.

It was Yami's birthday and they were all coming over to the Game Shop that night to celebrate the birth of that cursed Pharaoh. Sugoroku had arranged for it. Even his own grandfather worshipped the ground the ex-Pharaoh walked on. Since it was found out that the oh-so-wonderful Game King was "family", business had been booming for his grandfather.

Nobody cared about little Yuugi anymore. If they did, they would have realized long ago that "sweet", "innocent" Yuugi was, in fact, a smoker, a druggie and all the things in between. He was also in a gang, went to nightclubs just for the "entertainment" they put on. Everyone that was from the bad side of Domino knew who he was. They didn't know the small one he used to be.

Yuugi let a cruel smile crawl across his lips. He had something "special" planned for the Pharaoh tonight. Something incredible.

You never ignored Yuugi Mutou and still lived to see the next day......

He waited until those groupies of his yami left to strike. Yuugi stepped forward from where he had been hiding in a darkened corner of the family den, a sly smile curled as he watched with amusement as Yami stared at him. He was expecting such a reaction. He took the cigarette from his lips and blew the smoke softly into Yami's face.

"Remember me, Yami? The little one who used to hang around you like your pathetic groupies?" Yuugi didn't wait for a reply and took a drag of his cigarette for continuing. "I have something......special planned for tonight, Pharaoh. Just for the two of us."

Yami was staring speechless at his light as Yuugi ran a finger softly down his jaw. "Y-Yuugi, I......what happened to you?"

Yuugi seemed to pout, crossing his arms. The pout turned into a callous, cold grin. "Don't worry, pretty boy. I've got transportation to get to where we're going." Totally ignoring his question, the "hikari" took him by the hand and led him outside where a beaten-up jeep waited for them with three other boys as well.

One of them leaned over the passenger seat as Yuugi pushed Yami into the middle backseat before snuffing out the cigarette on the ground and hopping in himself. "That him, Yuugi?" He spoke with a Southern American drawl, green eyes travelling over Yami's body appreciatively. "Sexy."

Yuugi only snorted before flinging a blonde lock away from his cold amethyst eyes. "Yeah, and you better not think about leaving me, Istu, or I'll beat you to a bloody fuckin' pulp." Yami stared in shock at his light's harsh words while Istu only laughed and turned back around as the car started up.

"Whatever ya say, man. I know ya love me too much ta beat me to a pulp."

"Shut your fuckin' trap, Istu." Yuugi flung his head back, enjoying the wind that blew past them at 130 miles an hour.

"Yuugi, how can you......say such horrible words?" Yami was shocked -- what had happened to the sweet light who would once upon a time come to him whenever something went wrong? What happened to the light he once held in his arms and never let go?

Yuugi opened one eye and smiled coldly at the ex-Pharaoh. "Simple fact, Yami, you let go." He sighed, closing his eye. "People change, Yami. Friendship doesn't last forever, never has and never will. Friendship is just a bunch of shit they want you to believe until your only friends tell you they don't want you following them around like a little kid." He leaned forward a bit, opening his eyes fully as that same smile returned. "But then you realize that your friendship with those bastards was only keeping you from the truth, only keeping you back as you tried to run ahead. You want to cuss in their faces but you still have to keep up the "innocent" facade."

He let the meaning behind it all sink into Yami's mind, smirking when crimson eyes widened. "That's right, you and those other bakas are to blame. Two years of solitude made me what I am, two years of loneliness, of being ignored by every one including that old man who practically brought me up. Two years of "Yami this, Yami that" before I finally got pissed off enough to stumble across these guys who took me in and taught me the more finer things in life other than waiting to be spoken to or even asked out."

"Yuugi, I......I had no idea......" Yami was interrupted when the boy next to him draped an arm across his shoulders, grinning.

"Yeah, well too late for apologies, man. Ya don't ignore our Yuug and get away with it, ne, Mutou?" Yuugi only smiled before gripping Yami's chin forcefully and making him look into his own cold amethyst abyss.

"Akemi's right, Yami. Everybody from this part of Domino doesn't know the small, insignificant being I used to be. Rather they know that I'm one to be feared, they know that when they cross my path they won't be leaving alive. It's a simple fact of life that people change......some for the better." Yuugi's voice was a dangerous purr -- soft and low -- as he whispered into the former Pharaoh's ear before his tongue caressed the lobe.

Needless to say, Yami was surprised at Yuugi's choice of words, even more so when he felt a wetness against his ear. Yuugi......was this really his gentle aibou? Ra, had they really ignored him that long? Yes, it was their fault of course, they were the ones to blame. But mostly the ancient one blamed himself for taking control of Yuugi's own life, for pushing him into the darkness. He felt teeth on his ear and looked up, crimson meeting amethyst. What had he done?

"We're there," Yuugi purred sensually as the three other boys hopped out of the jeep. Hands gripped his wrists harshly and pulled as his eyes wandered to a sign that read "Club Sahara".

A nightclub?!

"Not just any nightclub, Pharaoh," Yuugi purred into his ear from behind as arms wrapped around his waist. "You'll see what I mean when we get inside. This place contains a......special reason for its being.."

Yami felt his heart freeze up, hoping to Ra that they wouldn't get past the bouncer. The tall, well-built man only raised an eyebrow at Yuugi before stepping aside and letting them in. The former Pharaoh realized his aibou must have been here quite a few times to not be asked for I.D. Yami let himself be pulled through the crowd, feeling a bit like a puppet with its strings cut before he looked around the room. There was a large cage in the centre of the club, two bars on either side for easy access and a DJ in a corner playing loud heavy metal rock music. One horrible note passed through his mind -- all the occupants of the room were men, even the people behind the bars.

Yuugi had dragged him to a gay club.

A cold smile curled as he felt the other tense up in his arms. Oh, he knew Yami was incredibly homophobic -- a trait pushed onto him by the bitch herself -- but that was what he was counting on. He let his tongue run along Yami's neck as the Pharaoh struggled to pull away. "You're not going anywhere, Yami." His purr had changed to a dangerous hiss, indicating just who was in charge. "I'm going to make you scream by the time I'm done. Don't bother crying out -- nobody will bother because they all know that facing off with me will mean their death."

"Yuugi......wh-why are you doing this?" It came out as an unintentional whimper as Istu handed his light some key and told them a room number. He didn't like the smirk on the green-eyed boy's lips. "Trust me, Yuug, the boss said the room'll have everything you need. Have fun," Istu had said before he walked away to join the other two. Yami had recognized the look in the boy's eyes -- it was pity.

"Why am I doing this?" A dark chuckle sounded against his ear as Yuugi dropped him on the floor and clutched a hand in his multicoloured locks, making him scream in pain as he was dragged along behind in a darkened hallway. "Simple revenge, Pharaoh. Just simple, pitiful revenge for the way you pushed me away, the way you and those other pathetic weaklings treated me for years." He unlocked the room and threw Yami inside by the hair, licking his lips softly when the former Pharaoh cried out in pain. "Just remember, Yami, you used to do this to your slaves in Egypt. Think of the pain you caused their pitiful bodies."

Yuugi smiled darkly as he looked around the room at the various objects that decorated it. He felt cold ice clutch at his heart, darkness swallow his soul. Yami had brought this upon himself so he would pay the consequences. And pay dearly he would. He picked the sniveling Pharaoh off the ground by the back of his shirt before throwing him callously onto the bed in the centre of the room. He crawled onto the bed and grabbed Yami's wrist harshly and chained it to a post before doing the same to the other and his ankles. He let a hand trail almost softly down his face, the dark smile curling into a wicked one.

"You brought this onto yourself, slave. I'm not going to stop until I see that you're enjoying it." Amethyst eyes flashed as he pulled a sharp knife from out his back pocket, watching crimson orbs widen before he began to cut through the leather that sheathed Yami's body tightly. He ran his tongue across his yami's chest, toying with his nipples as he discarded the sliced leather. He laughed when Yami bucked, trying to throw him off. "You'll never be rid of me, Yami. We are bonded -- we always will be. Even if you did somehow get rid of me, I would always come back for you, come back to taste you once more, taste your skin and hear your cries of pain. I would never let you gain supremacy but I tell you this." Yuugi crawled up so he could whisper into his ear. "If you ever betray me by telling your groupies this I will personally kill you, that I promise. In fact, I forbid you to stop talking to them all together."

Yami jerked his head away, crimson eyes blazing anger and betrayal before his "light" backhanded him. Tears threatened to spill but the former Pharaoh held them back. "Why should I listen to you?"

"Because then you'll be putting their lives in danger," Yuugi purred, tongue rolling across his lips. "I have friends in high places and I could easily arrange for them to be......terminated, if you will." He scowled. "Enough of this foolish banter, slave. I didn't bring you here to listen to your mindless babble." His hands travelled down and tweaked the pink nubs, causing Yami to cry out in pain. Yuugi found himself getting drunk on his cries, drunken on the power rushing through his veins. He would pay. Oh yes, he would pay for his treachery.........

-- months later --

"I wonder where Yami is," Anzu wondered absentmindedly, looking around, never spending a spare moment to even think about the little one they'd left behind five years ago. The group of so-called friends hadn't seen the Game King in months since his birthday, whenever they asked for him at the Game Shop, Sugoroku had always either told them that he was out of he didn't want to see them. They found it unnatural for the old man to be so hostile about something, but the worthless fools didn't know one of the puzzle's hidden abilities -- mind control.

Katsuya shrugged before running a hand through his blonde hair. "Maybe we should go through the back door and avoid the old man." With a nodded agreement, the three set off towards the shop that had become somewhat of a second home to them, never knowing what they were stepping into when they got there. They entered the house, noticing with a brief look of amusement that Sugoroku had left the back door unlocked while he'd gone out.

Muffled groans were the first sound that reached Tristan's ears and they perked, the brunette motioning for his two friends to the stairs. The groans suddenly turned to screams halfway up the stairs and the trio ran the rest of the way towards where the sound was coming from. Katsuya noticed the door was open and pushed it ever so slightly. Anzu gasped and turned away, covering her eyes disgustedly from the sight as Katsuya's and Tristan's only widened and they backed away from the door.

A naked Yami was curled into a tight ball, scars -- new and old -- marred his once-flawless skin as he rocked himself, letting the tears fall and mix with the blood beneath where he sat on the floor. Yuugi's body lay in front of him, a large dagger twisted well in the left side of his chest. Right above his heart. Yami kept whispering a mantra to himself, shaking his head in denial while crimson eyes were unfocused and confused.

Katsuya and Tristan moved forward timidly, looking around the room while leaving Anzu to vomit her heart out in the bathroom -- the thought of her sexy Yami like that disgusted her mind. The room had changed drastically -- what had once been a pure room was now completely black, the smell of sex and blood still lingered in the air. The blonde noticed something on the desk and walked over while his best friend knelt beside the dead body. Something was shouted hysterically in ancient Egyptian before Yami uncurled from his ball and held Yuugi's body protectively, an almost insane glint in those once kind crimson orbs. Tristan blinked and backed away as Yami ran a hand through the coarse multicoloured hair of his master, whispering Egyptian once more as though meaning to calm the body he held gently.

Katsuya's eyes widened at what the paper on the desk read and he collapsed to the ground in realization, tears beginning to fall from his caramel eyes.

Yuugi was dead because of them. They'd left him to darkness, to nothingness and loneliness. He'd become what was written because of them, become the insane creature Yami held in his hands. It really was true what they say. You don't know what you've got till it's gone. And now they'd been pushed back into darkness without any light to guide them because of this. Because of their selfishness of liking the former Pharaoh, because of believing him to be everything that Yuugi was not.

Yuugi had represented everything just by being there with them. Pain and happiness, sadness and friendship. They had pushed him away in favour of something else.

It was their fault...............................
