Slowly Dying
disclamer: I do not own any of the yu-gi-oh cast. Sadly Rex Raptor belongs to the rich people in Japan.
chapter one: Christmas Eve
*******************************
It was Christmas Eve at the Raptor home. Everything was prefect, the small tree was lit with bright lights of green and red that filled the room, a few gifts under the tree here and there, and Mr. and Mrs. Raptor sitting on the couch watching their six year old son play with his dinosuar toys that he had gotten last year. Yes everything was just prefect.
"Rico." Said the woman sitting next to him on the couch watching the six year old play.
"Yes, Kayla?" He replied, never taking his eyes off his son who continued to play making little growling and roring noises for the two fighting dinosuar toys. The boy yawned then went back to playing.
"I think Rex is getting tired. It's past his bed time anyway." Rico looked down to her and then over to Rex. He shook his head in agreement. Kayla got up off the couch and sat down next to Rex near the tree not eight feet away.
"Alright, come on Rex it's time to go to bed." Rex looked up at his mother and poked his bottom lip out and looked back down to his toys then back to his mom then walked over to his father and looked up at him with big puppy dog eyes. Getting no response he crawled up onto the couch and hugged his father in hopes more playtime. Rico looked down to Rex and chuckled.
"Rex, your mother is right. you need to go to bed."
"But Daaaad! I'm not sleepy!" Rex said in a scratchy whine. He then let another yawn escape his small mouth.
"See, yes you are. Come on, I'm sure your little dinos are tired too." Rico said as he picked up Rex's toys in his arms while Rex went to give his mother a goodnight kiss. Then he walked back over to his father and followed him upstairs to his bedroom. Rex brushed his teeth which was observed now because of a cavity which Rex claimed he had no idea how it had gotten there. Rex then got dressed for bed and his father tucked him in and gave him a goodnight kiss on the forehead and turned to leave. He was almost to the door when he heard Rex call him.
"Dad..." Rex said quietly.
"Yeah Rexy?" Rico replied tiredly. "What is it?"
"Will you get Red?" He asked looking to his Red Eyes Black Dragon plush sitting in a chair on the other side of the room.
"Sure..." His father retrived the plushie and handed it to Rex. "Goodnight Rexy, sweet dreams."
"Goodnight Daddy." Rex said as he drifted off to sleep.
Back downstairs Rico took off his red stocking hat with the letters 'D' and 'R' in an oval on the forehead. He looked at it for a moment. He thought about how his father had given it to him on Christmas morning. He had been so happy. Rex had already asked for a hat like it but they couldn't find one anywhere. He sat down and wraped it up in baby blue wrapping paper and wrote Rex's name on a little tap stuck to it and placed it under the tree. Rico turned around to see Kayla smiling at him.
"Rex will love it." She said standing up as he walked over to her. "Coffee?" She offered. Rico merely shook his head. They went to the kitchen to make it but Kayla told Rico to go ahead and sit down that she would take care of it.
"Damn..." Rico said slowly, which shocked Kayla because he never cussed. "I've hardly gotten Rex a thing... If only we had more money, I would like to get him a bike or something. Sometimes I wonder if I'm fit to be a father."
"Rico!" Kayla said. "Don't say things like that! You know Rex doesn't care what all he gets as long as he knows we still love him, he has even told you that. Besides you got Rex three dinosuar toys, two new sets of clothes and you're giving him your hat to keep his head warm this winter. He will love everything."
"Yeah I suppose..." He smiled as Kayla sat on lap and pulled him into a kiss. It only lasted for a moment though as they heard the coffee maker ding. As Kayla walked over to fix their cups Rico looked her over. She had long brown hair and the most beautiful brown eyes he had ever seen not to mintion her skin as white as snow and smooth and soft to the touch. Rico wondered how he won the heart of such a kind woman. She set his coffee down in front of him and he gagged as soon as he took a sip. Kayla laughed at him.
"I didn't put any cream in it, sorry." She said as she giggled at his twisted face. He then reached over the past her seat next to him to get the cup of cream. On the way back he 'accidentally' brushed by her brests earning a playful smack. She was quiet as he mixed the cream into his coffee then hers. He was a cuttie. He had long brown hair with purple bangs, his eyes were blue and his skin tanned from working in the yard all the time. He also had muscles his upper torso was all muscle. He had a four pack and very strong legs. But thankfully wasn't one of those guys that there neck started at the top of their ears. She hated that look.
He looked at her with loving eyes. His eyes were the same as Rex's, same color and shape. She took a sip of her drink and looked him over one more time knowing that Rex would look just like him. They talked a little more and soon were kissing and touching heading off to their bed room leaving their drinks forgotten on the table.
CHRISTMAS MORNING
Rex woke up with a start and ran into the kitchen when he heard his parents call him down. Rex ate his breakfast quickly and ran into the living room to the tree egar to open his gifts. Rex's dad teased him by eating his food slower and taking smaller drinks of his orange juice.
"Daaaaaddddd!!!!! Hurry up... Pleeease!" Rex whined. Rico got up and sat down in the floor with Rex and Kayla who had already sorted out the presents. Rex opened all of his and was hopping up and down in joy but his father handed him another one. It was small and kinda soft he tore open the paper to see the red stocking cap of his fathers. He looked up at his dad for only a few seconds but they felt like hours to Rico. Then without warning Rex jumped up and hugged his father. "Thank you Daddy!!!" He said as he put the hat on. Rex looked down at his other things that were the clothes and the toys. He wasn't to thrilled about the clothes but the toys were great. Rico opened his to find a hand nitted sweater from Kayla and a black scarf from Rex. It wasn't much but it was enough for him. Kayla got a set of earrings from Rex. She couldn't find anything from Rico though. He looked at her with cold uncaring eyes then softened his face and took out a box it was about five inches long. She smiled at him, she had been close to tears at first. Kayla opened to find a dimond studded braclet in it. Kayla gasped as Rico kissed her passionatly.
"Ewww! I'm outta' here." Rex said as he picked up his stuff and went to his room to play.
THAT NIGHT
Rico and Kayla had already put Rex in bed. And were laying in bed as well just holding eachother in loving embraces. Enjoying their life together. There was a low thud and a tiny crack heard downstairsk. Rico sat stright up in the bed. He told Kayla to stay there the only other room up stairs was Rex's. Rico checked on him. He was sleeping like a baby. Rico headed on down stairs to check things out while Kayla called the cops. Rico was so cought up in finding the source of the noise he didn't notice Rex come quietly down the stairs. Rex stood there for a second then stepped down on to the floor at that moment a dark figure turned the courner from the kitchen Rico spotted him and pulled out his gun as did the intruder Kayla's eyes grew wide at the sound of a gun shot and breaking glass. She ran down stairs and gasp when she saw Rex sitting on the floor in front of father who laying face up in a puddle of his own blood.
"Oh my God! Rex! Rex baby are you okay!?" She shouted out. She turned Rex towards her she then started to cry. Rex was not hurt but his fathers blood was splattered on his tearstreaked face. Kayla heard sairons going off outside the house but they were too late. Too late... She held her son to her chest and could no longer hold back the tears as she looked at the corpse that was her husband. Tears rolled down her cheeks as the cops busted in and rushed over to them. They took Kayla and Rex outside to one of the cars to clean them up and to question Rex who couldn't speak to them for he was in shock. The fueneral was three days later at the small babtist church they went to. The fact that his father was gone hadn't sunken in yet. So he tended to wonder why his father was sleeping in the long box in the hole. A few men with shovles came over but before Rex could see what they were doing his mother pulled him away.
