…Katsuya Jounouchi…
"Yugi? Yugi? Earth to Yugi!" Jou yelled as he waved a hand inches away from his friend's face. Jou watched as recognition slipped back into Yugi's facial features and life back into his eyes. After a few blinks, Yugi turned to Jou with a bright smile.
"Oh, gomen Jounouchi-kun. Were you saying something?" Yugi said politely.
Jou sighed and slumped back into his chair with his arms crossed over his chest as he shook his head. "No Yug'. Nothing important anyways." With his eyes staring down at the floor, Jou heard the door to the classroom open and inhaled when he saw the newcomer's shoes. 'No, it couldn't be…' Jou said to himself as he kept his gaze glued to the floor. He watched as the shoes walked towards him, and held his breath as he waited for the person to pass him, but luck and Jou never went in the same sentence. Jou cursed himself for having a desk in the aisle side when he saw the familiar black shoes stop in front of him and cursed even more when he heard Yugi gasp.
"Mutt," the cold voice said smugly. Jou flinched at the voice more than the nickname. Hesitantly, Jou forced himself to look up and his eyes clashed with a blue sapphire.
"K-Kaiba," Jou stuttered in shock. Seto Kaiba was the heir to the Kaiba Corporation which created and funded all types of new technology. He and his younger brother Mokuba Kaiba, were billionaire prodigies and coincidently, the eldest Kaiba and Jou had it out for each other but not in a good way. However, Seto Kaiba had left school about a month prior due to some major project that had required his full and undivided attention. No one had ever expected for him to return. It's not like he needed the education since he was already smart enough to skip the rest of high school as well as college, but for some reason, Kaiba came back.
A small smirk graced his sharp features. "Oh look. You still know how to talk. Well, this is a surprise," Kaiba mused.
Jou ran his slim fingers through his golden blonde hair which was about a dozen shades lighter than Kaiba's chestnut brown hair. He tried to remain calm and refused to allow himself to lose his nerve.
"Why are you here? Everyone was perfectly fine without your prick ass here. Actually, everyone was happier without you here," Jou huffed out angrily.
Kaiba shrugged nonchalantly ignoring Jou's last remark. "Guess I wanted to finish my education. Something that doesn't mean anything to someone like you."
Jou glared intensely at the brunet but was stopped from saying anything when a small hand landed on his shoulder. "I'm sorry Kaiba-kun but could you try to be nicer to Jounouchi-kun," Yugi said with a small smile. Kaiba scoffed, but refrained from saying anything else and instead continued walking to the back of the class. Yugi stared at Kaiba's retreating form and then glanced back at his friend who was glaring at the floor beneath them.
"Don't let him get to you, Jou," Yugi said.
He frowned when Jou didn't respond. Yugi sighed at the confused look on Jou's face. He felt bad for the blonde. Jou was just starting to get over Kaiba. The amethyst-eyed youth knew about Jou's secret feelings towards the elder brunet and sadly he was the only one. Not even Jou knew that he had hopelessly in love with Kaiba. And if he did, he was desperately trying to pretend that he didn't. Yugi saw the anger, fear and confusion that flooded Jou's narrowed, honey brown eyes. And all Jou was going to do was ignore these common felt emotions. That's how he always dealt with his feelings. He ignored them and the only way he could do that was if he did something else to occupy his time. Like talk.
"You won't believe what Honda did yesterday," Jou said with feigned excitement as he turned his gaze to Yugi. "So, we were in Calculus and he was like…"
Yugi put a small smile on his face and nodded every now and then and laughed on cue. Although his mind was in another world and Jou's words sounded like complete rubbish. It's not that he didn't care about what Jou had to say. He loved Jou like a brother. It was just that he had his own problems to think about. Not only that but he had been feeling weird lately…different almost. Like there was something inside of him that was trying to get out. A presence maybe? Yugi laughed at a joke that he didn't hear and then went back to his thoughts. Whatever it was, it was very ominous. Scary, but protective and extremely strong. He laughed again.
Jou walked down the broken down alley way with his hands dug deep into his pockets and his eyes stuck on the ground. The silence around him and inside of him was agonizing. There was nobody to talk to in this disgraceful neighborhood. No one to listen to him. So all he could do was talk to himself.
'Stupid Kaiba. Walking out of my life like that and then thinking that he can just come back like this!' Jou said to himself angrily. Just when he was starting to think that he could get over the brunet. To forget and move on. "Damn him!" Jou yelled as he kicked a trash can over, spilling its contents onto the ground. A small drop of water fell down Jou's left cheek and his hand instantly went to his face and wiped the water away. 'What the hell?' Jou said in disbelief and was taken aback when another drop of water landed on the tip of his nose.
Looking up towards the sky, Jou realized the large dark gray cloud that was lingering over him. A few more drops fell around him and Jou quickly broke out into a sprint as he raced towards his house to avoid the rainstorm that was about to take place. Jou turned a sharp corner and came to a dead halt when he saw a familiar group.
"Why Katsuya. I'm glad you could join us," a muscular blonde said. His face cracked into a menacing grin. Jou narrowed his eyes at the gang and backed up slowly to try to make a quick escape but, unfortunately, he backed up into a large body that grabbed him around his neck.
"Leaving so soon," the blonde man said. Jou struggled within the strong arms. "Damn Keith! Let me go!"
Keith laughed and then snapped his fingers. The man holding Jou dropped him to the ground roughly. Jou looked up from his spot on the ground. He was on his hands and knees and Keith took the opportunity to mock him.
"What a…compromising position you've gotten yourself into," he said with a smile as the five gang members surrounded the kneeling blonde.
Jou tried to stand up and was delivered a sharp blow to the stomach. The rain was coming down hard now. In pain, Jou fell to his knees, the water on the ground soaking through his pants. Keith cupped Jou's face and forced him to look into his menacing eyes. "Tonight…you become mine," Keith laughed out and Jou fell back as the other's knuckles met with his soft cheek.
Yugi let his bag slide to the ground and plopped down on his purple-colored bed with a soft, squeaking sound. At peace, he sighed into his pillow and then turned his head to the side and examined his littered room with bored eyes. The amethyst eyes landed gently on the black journal that his therapist had given him. For a reason unknown to him, Yugi got up and picked the book up from the floor. Opening it to the first page, he glanced at the blank lines and then thought back to earlier that day. He needed someone to talk to about his friends…about himself. Looking back down at the floor, Yugi picked up a pen and laid back down on his bed before jotting down a few words.
Katsuya Jounouchi
You talk too much. Maybe that's your way of breaking up the silence that fills you up. But it doesn't sound the same when no one's really listening.
Yugi exhaled deeply as he placed the black pen that he had been writing in between the split in the middle of the journal and closed the book slowly. He wished Jou had someone that could love him the way that he needed to be loved. Yugi turned his gaze to the small window that rested over his bed and looked up at the darkening sky. It was raining now. Yugi failed to realize that his Millennium puzzle was glowing dimly. His eyes closed unconsciously. Before he knew it, complete darkness took over his senses and when he opened his eyes again, he was looking up at his beautiful blue sky; oblivious to the ruby eyes watching him from the shadows.

Editor's note.

I can't believe how well you characterized Kaiba. I can almost imagine him giving Jou a look of disdain mixed with a glare. I also like how you used Yugi to write that diary entry. It gives Jou's character much more depth. I noticed that you didn't use as many eye descriptions which is good.
Jou and Kaiba have good chemistry.
Though I never expected Jou to be in Calculus.
Hmm... my note is short this time. I am saddened XD.
