…Game of Love & Lust…
Yugi’s legs hurt so much from walking. It felt like it had been hours, even days, since he and Yami had begun their walk when in reality it had only been a few minutes. Amethyst eyes scanned the never ending hall slowly. Even thought the hall was lit, Yugi didn’t fail to notice the shadows lingering in the corner, which was one of the reasons he kept close to Yami’s side. The other being that he enjoyed being near the spirit. The round, angelic eyes then turned to look at the handsome youth beside him.
Since he and Yami had set off on their journey, the older had barely spoken two words. He was probably still pissed that Yugi was so persistent in Yami getting his own body. Yugi didn’t know what the big deal was. It couldn’t be that dangerous…right? All he knew was that the moment Yami had given in, they had both wound up in Yami’s soulroom and had been walking down this damn hallway for what felt like forever.
Giving into his boredom, Yugi decided that the only thing left to do was talk. Hopefully he could get Yami to speak to him. Earlier when he had tried to talk to Yami, the spirit merely brushed him off with one word replies. What was it going to take to get a reaction out of Yami?
As soon as the question went through his mind, a devious glint flashed in Yugi’s childlike eyes and a small smile made its way onto his unmarred face. “Hey Yami. Don’t you think it’s too dark in here? You should decorate more.”
Yugi ignored the urge to smirk when the spirit’s right eye twitched. Oh, this was going to be fun.
“I thought we discussed this already. I like it this way,” Yami said sternly as he kept walking down the never-ending hall with Yugi close at his side.
“But I don’t like it,” Yugi whined playfully. “Especially since these shadows seem to want to kill me.”
Yami sighed and, giving Yugi a sideways glance, said slowly: “They won’t kill you unless I instruct them to.” Then he added to himself: //Which I am very close to doing.//
The thought escaped to Yugi’s half of the mind link and the smaller smiled. He wondered how far he could push Yami until the spirit finally snapped. “You know Yami, I don’t like the color of the walls either. They’re all black and scary-looking.”
“Well I apologize that my soulroom is not to your liking but I can only please one person a day. Today is obviously not your day. Tomorrow doesn’t look good either,” Yami said completely serious.
Yugi feigned a frown and complained childishly: “You’re not being very nice Yami. I bet if I added some stuffed animals and some toys in here then you would be a lot happier.”
Yugi bit his lip to keep from laughing when a growl escaped Yami’s lips. "If you keep insulting my room, the shadows will eat you,” Yami warned with an annoyed tone, not even bothering to look at Yugi as he spoke.
“But I thought you said they could only harm me if you told them to,” Yugi said arching a thin eyebrow.
“Exactly,” Yami mused.
For the first time since they began walking, there was complete silence and Yami inwardly sighed in relief. However, his relief left as quickly as it came when Yugi piped up: "Are you sure I can't paint even one of the rooms? I mean, you have approxiamately 174 rooms in this place."
Yami looked at Yugi with a bewildered expression. Why in Ra’s name did Yugi insist on annoying him? He swore his smaller counterpart was doing it on purpose. “No,” was all Yami said, his tone practically daring for Yugi to say one more thing.
Suddenly, an evil thought flashed in Yugi’s mind. The smaller knew that there was only one thing Yami hated more than someone insulting his soulroom. Yugi glanced at Yami’s leather attire and then back up to the spirit with a smile. “You know, Yami, you shouldn’t wear so much leather. I think we should go out and shop for some new clothes. Do you like the color pink? You would look cute in pink, don’t you think?”
Yami stopped dead in his tracks and visibly flinched. In one quick movement, Yami turned to Yugi and leaned down so that their faces were only inches apart. "I am this close to sending you to the Shadow Realm,” Yami hissed while placing his index finger and thumb about an inch apart from each other to demonstrate how close Yugi actually was to pushing him over the edge.
Yugi looked from Yami’s hand to his face and smiled innocently at the short-tempered spirit. "I'm sorry, Yami. I'll be good. I promise," Yugi replied sweetly before placing a soft kiss on Yami's cheek.
To say Yami was completely taken aback by the small gesture of affection would be an understatement. The spirit watched suspiciously as Yugi walked away. Surely Yugi didn’t mean anything by it…or did he?
Yami watched with curious eyes as Yugi continued to walk down the long hall, his hips moving from side to side perfectly. Yami never noticed how seductive Yugi’s movements were. Had they always been like that? Suddenly, crimson eyes narrowed in realization. Oh, he understood now. Yugi was playing with him; teasing him, if you will. A humorous smirk appeared on the flawless face of the ancient Pharaoh, one thought crossing his mind.
‘Two can play at that game.’
Yugi was currently thinking about what he had just done. In all honesty, Yugi did want to stir a reaction out of the handsome spirit. He wanted to see if there was even the remotest possibility that Yami liked him, even if spirit didn’t love him. At this point, Yugi didn’t care. All he wanted was to have Yami’s body close to his. He could never expect the spirit to love him but there was no harm in flirting with the crimson-eyed youth. No, no harm at all.
Yugi squeaked in surprise when a pair of strong arms wrapped around his waist and pulled him back into a well-toned chest. Yugi couldn’t help the red blush that spread like wildfire across his cheeks at the close contact. Not to say he didn’t like it though.
“I don’t want you to get lost, my little one. You should know better than to walk away from me. You need to stay in my sight at all times. Do you understand?” Yami whispered huskily into Yugi’s ear as he traced a finger up and down Yugi’s chest.
Yugi didn’t know what to do. There were so many emotions racing through his head and he wasn’t sure which one he should be feeling at the moment. All he knew was that Yami’s body pressing up against his and the spirit’s hot breath on his face was doing things to him that maybe it shouldn’t do.
Yugi didn’t know when or how it happened but suddenly his back was pressed against a wall and he was facing Yami who had a predatory glint in his eyes. Suddenly, Yugi felt a pair of hands roaming his body, sending sparks down his spine. He felt his mind turn to mush as Yami planted feathery soft kisses down the side of his face and his neck. Yugi closed his eyes as he let Yami touch his body wherever the ex-Pharaoh wanted to.
Feeling success on the horizon, Yami rubbed the bottom of Yugi's rosy lips with his thumb and the smaller instinctively leaned forward. When nothing happened, Yugi opened his eyes only to see Yami standing there with a victorious smirk plastered on his face.
"Come hikari," Yami said letting go of Yugi and creating a small distance between them. “If you want me to get a body anytime soon, then we should hurry.”
Yugi stood there absolutely dumbfounded, staring at Yami like he had grown another head. But looking into the other one’s dark red eyes, Yugi realized want had just happened. Yami had the upper hand now and Yugi hadn’t done anything to prevent it from happening. Yami had won this round.
“Is something wrong, Aibou? You seem…flushed?” Yami mused and Yugi couldn’t help but glare at the other. Yami resisted the urge to laugh as Yugi stomped past him, muttering something about stupid Pharaohs and painting Yami’s soulroom hot pink. Yami followed close in suit after his pissed off Aibou. He had not been lying when he said Yugi had to remain in his sights at all times. If anything ever happened to Yugi because he wasn’t with him…well, they’d be a lot of dead people and pain....then more dead people.
The rest of the walk was traveled in silence and neither of them could deny that even though they had enjoyed the sensual feeling of being together, it really hurt that what had just happened was nothing but a game to the other. At least, that’s what they both thought. They didn’t realize that the kisses and touches they shared were real, that they actually meant something.
Finally, Yugi and Yami came to a large black door that appeared locked. With a flick of his wrist, Yami watched as the door flew open, revealing a room of absolute darkness. Yugi watched in horror as Yami entered the room and then turned around to give him a suspicious look.
“U-umm…” Yugi squeaked hesitantly and Yami mentally smacked himself for forgetting Yugi’s paranoia of the dark. It was ironic that Yami was the embodiment of darkness.
Guilt from the test Yami had put Yugi through a few days ago flooded the spirit’s heart. “It’s okay Aibou. I’m right here. Nothing can hurt you as long as I’m here,” Yami coaxed as he reached forward for the other. Yugi looked at the other sadly.
‘As long as you’re here? And how long would that be? Forever, I hope,’ Yugi said to himself, looking down at Yami’s outstretched hand. He smiled. “Alright…I trust you,” Yugi said clasping on to Yami’s hand with his own.
The next thing Yugi knew, he was standing in the middle of the room, directly in front of what looked like the Millennium Puzzle, which was floating a few feet above the ground. The room was no longer dark due to the golden glow that radiated off of the floating object. Yugi looked up to see Yami staring at him protectively from the opposite side of the puzzle.
“Are you sure about this Yugi? I don’t think you can do this,” Yami said worriedly and Yugi’s face softened at the caring tone. It wasn’t like Yami to show emotion like this. Just the thought that Yami actually cared was enough for Yugi to say: “I can Yami. Trust me.”
Yami eye’s widened slightly at Yugi’s confident tone. Yugi was never confident in himself when it came to anything. Yami wondered what he had done for Yugi to react this way. Whatever it was, he would have to do it more often because his first tactic obviously wasn’t working. Yami snapped out of his thoughts when the light from the puzzle shined in his eyes brightly.
“Alright Yugi. Take my hands,” Yami instructed while holding out his hands. Yugi nodded as he took Yami’s hands in his, a small blush covering his face as he thought about the activities that he and Yami had taken part in earlier. Yugi watched with wide eyes as the puzzle in between them began to twirl around repeatedly.
A worried sigh escaped Yami’s lips. “Okay, now what I need you to do is close your eyes. Once the puzzle feels like we’re ready, the process will begin. Now, I’m not going to lie to you. This is going to hurt. But Yugi,” Yami said softly and Yugi looked up at the beautiful spirit. “I need you to be strong.”
A small smile fell on Yugi’s face. “I will…” he said quietly and then added: “For you.”
With that, Yugi closed his eyes, knowing that Yami had done the same.
…
It felt like his eyes had been for a while. Yugi was actually starting to get impatient. He wanted so desperately to peek and see what in the world was going on. However, the moment he tried to open his eyes, he felt a warm blanket engulf his entire being. For a second, he felt like he was in heaven. The blanket was so soft that he wanted to hum. He felt like he was about to fall asleep.
That was until the blanket surrounding him became cold and soon he felt shadows begin to pull at his insides. He opened his mouth to scream but no sound came out. It hurt so much. It felt like his soul was being ripped apart at its very essence. His body was consumed by what felt like a blazing fire and Yugi felt his skin begin to burn under to immense heat. The pain was so excruciating that he couldn’t even breathe. Then…
Everything became numb and Yugi passed out, not being able to take the pain any longer. Right before all became black, Yugi opened one eye and watched with a blurred vision as Yami hit the ground. Then nothing.
…
Yugi winced at the throbbing pain in his head as he began to come back to reality. His body felt so sore that it hurt to even move. Yugi felt something warm beside him and snuggled closer to it. After a few minutes of lying perfectly still on what felt like a bed, Yugi forced himself to open his eyes. At the same exact moment, crimson eyes shot open beside him and it took Yugi a couple of moments to comprehend that he and Yami were in the same bed together, both holding the other tightly.
"Ahhhh!" They screamed in unison, both impulsively rolling off the bed and each hitting the ground harshly. Yugi groaned at the sudden impact with the hard ground, and after rubbing his head and untangling his limbs from the bed sheets, peeked over the pillows to see Yami growling in annoyance while sitting back on the bed. Yugi crawled back onto the bed as well but then screamed out in happiness when Yami turned to face him. Yami was no longer transparent! He had a body! A real body!
Yugi reached out and placed his hand on Yami's cheek. While it was true that Yami was solid though transparent before, the spirit always felt cold. However, now there was a certain warmth in the ex-Pharaoh’s face and Yugi’s hand tingled at the soft, creamy skin. Yami felt this warmth as well as he nuzzled his cheek into Yugi’s hand, making the smaller giggle cutely. Yami sighed at this. Damn Yugi was making him go soft. He could just hear Bakura laughing hysterically in the back of head.
“I’m so proud of you little one,” Yami said and Yugi smiled even more.
“I wouldn’t have been able to do it I didn’t have you,” Yugi said softly.
Yami raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”
“You showed me that you cared about me and that you were worried about my wellbeing. If it wasn’t for that then I wouldn’t have had the courage to go through with it. You gave me the courage I needed.”
“Just because I showed you I cared?” Yami questioned incredulously.
Yugi nodded. “Yup.”
‘And you didn’t have to lock him in a closet or anything,’ a cynical voice in the back of Yami’s head said.
Yami inwardly growled but ignored the voice for the time being when he caught a glimpse of Yugi’s breathtakingly gorgeous amethyst orbs. Yami didn’t know what came over him. Maybe it was the fact the Yugi was ridiculously adorable and cute. Or maybe the events that happened earlier that day were getting to him. But, whatever it was, something had caused Yami to lean forward and claim Yugi’s lips in a loving kiss.
Yugi’s eyes widened in shock at the sudden contact but slowly, and happily, he closed his eyes and hummed into the kiss. He loved the way his body tingled everywhere and smiled when Yami pulled him close. Everything was perfect and Yugi knew deep in his heart that this was the way it was supposed to be. But then, the gods having some vendetta against him, the doorbell rang sharply and Yami pulled back from the kiss. Yugi searched the beautiful crimson eyes for any emotion but could only find shock. Yami looked surprised at what he had just done. The thought made Yugi frown. Yami obviously didn’t mean to kiss him. He had merely done it by mistake. He was probably just overly excited about having his own body that he didn’t know what he was doing.
The bell rang again making them both jump. Whispering something about getting the door, Yugi jumped off the bed and walked down the stairs. Yami sat there staring after his hikari with a saddened expression. He was so stupid! Why did he go and kiss him again? Yami had promised himself that that day at the park was going to be the only time that he would ever kiss Yugi. Well, that was a blatant lie.
Yami sighed as he got to his feet and shook his heads of all the thoughts and feelings that flowed through him when his lips had touched Yugi’s. The only thing he could think about was the frown on Yugi’s face after they kissed. Yugi obviously didn’t feel the same way. Not that he expected someone as pure and beautiful as Yugi to love him but…it still hurt.
But like he had told himself millions of times before, his destiny was to guard Yugi with his life…not to be in a relationship with him. He would just have to learn to love Yugi from afar but it seemed to be getting harder to do with each passing day. Yami sighed again as he realized what he had to do.
“I’m sorry Aibou,” Yami whispered to himself. He exited Yugi’s bedroom and stopped at the top of the staircase, watching as Yugi made his way to the front door. With a deep sigh, Yami raised up his hands and ordered the shadows within him to erase Yugi’s short-term memory.
Yugi paused as he felt a certain darkness invade his mind. The darkness wasn’t threatening and Yugi could tell that it meant him no harm. However, after going through this same feeling a couple of times in the last few days, Yugi knew what was about to happen. Anger, along with slight annoyance bubbled in his stomach as he quickly forced the dark tendrils that were clinging onto his thoughts and memories making them slowly fading away, out of his head. Gradually, Yugi’s memories of the last few hours began to resurface and with one sharp movement, Yugi spun around and glared at the spirit at the top of the stairs.
If there was one thing that Yugi wasn’t, it was a fool. He knew that Yami was the cause for the memory lapses and the blackouts but he never said anything about it. But now Yugi was angry. How many memories had Yami erased of his? Had he and Yami kissed before? Had he and Yami done more than kissing? If so, then maybe what happened earlier wasn’t just a game…maybe Yami had meant it.
Nonetheless, he would never know now and he’d be damned if he continued to allow Yami to erase his precious memories. Yugi didn’t have many good memories but he never wanted to forget anything that he had shared with the spirit. For all he knew, Yami would never kiss him again. But that didn’t matter to Yugi. He didn’t care if Yami had kissed him by accident. He was just happy that he had gotten the chance to feel those alluring lips. And, he never wanted to forget that. The thought that Yami had erased any of the times that they shared angered him beyond comprehension and so, for once, he spoke his mind.
"If you try to erase my memories one more time, it'll be the last ounce of shadow magic you'll ever use again!” Yugi snapped at Yami accusingly and all the other could do was stare at Yugi in absolute disbelief. Yugi continued to glare at Yami but the sound of the doorbell made him remember why he had come down here in the first place. Turning back around to the door, Yugi reached out for the doorknob but not before yelling out in annoyance at the spirit.
“I mean, what the hell are you trying to do?! Give me brain cancer! Why don’t you just erase half of my childhood while you’re at it!? Along with my entire freshman year of high school, you mind-erasing prick!"
Yami stood at the top of the staircase with his mouth slightly ajar and, after a moment or two, he blinked in shock. He was absolutely stunned. Excluding Bakura, no one, in his entire life, had ever talked to him like that out of fear that he would banish them to the Shadow Realm. Why ever he hadn’t sent Bakura there yet was still unknown to him.
However, what surprised him even more was the fact that Yugi was able to repel his shadow magic. Yami had the strongest level of magic possible and the fact that someone as innocent and pure as his hikari was able to brush of his magic as if it was nothing astonished him. No one was able to do that. Well, except for his dear brother anyways.
Was Yugi really that strong?
Then a thought struck his mind but he quickly shook his head. It was impossible. Yugi couldn’t…or could he? No, no of course he couldn’t…right? There was no such thing as White Magic. It was a myth.
At the sound of a new voice, Yami looked up from his musings to see someone who he had never, in a million years, expected to see. But there he was, in Yugi’s doorway, standing next to the blond boy that he had come to known as Yugi’s best friend. In an instant, ice blue eyes met with dark crimson, an invisible lightening bolt sparking in between them.
