Somewhere Out There

(Author's Notes: Call me crazy on this one, but I was just thinking on what it would be like if one of the Duel Monsters fell in love with one of the characters! Since its Valentine's Day and all, I think I'll make another songfic. This one pairs up a certain tri-colored hero with the most unlikely of Duel Monsters. I'll let you read on to see on who it is.

I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh, the PS2 game The Falsebound Kingdom, or the song from the movie An American Tail, Somwhere Out There. By the way, this is a special song. My sister Amanda and I consider it to be our song. I hope you like it!)

Beneath the pale moonlight

It was a cool, clear night in the realm of Duel Monsters. The world was the Shadow Realm, but it had changed very much over the past couple of years. With the defeat of Marik, all Duel Monsters under his evil control were free to do as they pleased. Now, the entire world was made to look like something from the medieval era. A large castle stood out proudly in the middle of a small town, lush meadows as far as the eye can see and rolling hills and woods surrounding the area.

Most of the Duel Monsters was sleeping, save for one. It was a female monster, a Harpie Lady to be precise. She had lovely dark pink hair, icy blue eyes, and a figure that any woman would die for. Her name was Airo, and she used to be in the service of one Mai Valentine. Now, she was in her room looking at the full, beautiful blue moon in the night sky. Her thoughts and feelings were focused on one special person, whom she thought was the best Duelist and human around. It was not Yami her new master, but rather Yugi Moto.

Somewhere out there

In that big somewhere out there

She had seen the human a frequent number of times when her former master had summoned her in the past, but she always remembered the first time she met him. {Flashback: She had been summoned by Mai to battle a rookie Duelist by name of Joey. She got her first glimpse of the human, and thought he was just okay. Then, her eyes traveled downward towards three other people on the ground. A brunette girl, Tea Gardner, with blue eyes and a cheerful, yet determined attitude. An older boy with a weird hairstyle, and brown jacket. Then, her eyes fell onto Yugi.

The very first sight of him took her breath away. His large, innocent violet eyes and his sweet, handsome face fitted him perfectly. His loyalty, determination, and faith in his friend Joey was strong and fierce. She could not take her eyes off of the young lad, until Mai ordered her to attack Joey's monster. She did, but her attention was still focused on the tri-colored teenage boy. She was slightly surprised when he saw him change into the Pharaoh Yami. Still, her heart was still beating rapidly towards Yugi.}

It helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star

And when the night winds start to sing a lonesome lullaby

It helps to think we're sleeping underneath the same big sky

Throughout various spots in tournaments that Mai had participated in, she always saw her heartthrob and crush. But, she knew more then anyone that she and Yugi could never get together. They came from two different worlds, yet she always dreamed and hoped that they did come together. She was amazed and entranced by his loyalty, devotion, faith, courage, innocence, honesty, trusting nature, determination, and love.

But now, she had to settle watching over him with the other Duel Monsters. Via a magic spell courtesy of Dark Magician, she saw through a clear window that linked to the other side. It wrenched her heart when she saw her love and crush getting together with another girl. Her name was Rose, a very beautiful redhead. Yugi gave her unconditional and unrequited love, and Airo yearned so much to be Rose and receive his love.

Somewhere out there

Then we'll be together

Out where dreams come true

Airo vowed every time before the window would close up, "If she even hurts him in any way, I'll make sure she regrets it terribly.". To her, Yugi was precious and should be treated like a priceless jewel. Every time the window would close up, Airo would go to the Royal Archives and re-open the entire history of Yugi Moto. She had read every part and inch of his past, and it always amazed her on what he went through before he met Yami or his other friends.

She was not the only one having a crush on the young boy. Mystical Elf, Princess of Tsurugi, Injection Fairy Lily, Kanan the Swordmistress, and also Gyakuteno Megumi also held a small crush towards the young man. However, their crush towards Yugi was infantile in comparison to Airo. DMG, Dark Magician Girl, had tried to dissuade the love-stricken monster from pursuing Yugi. Alas, Airo would not give up her dream of being Yugi's love.

Every night, she would sleep and enter Yugi's dream. Only through dreams could the Duel Monsters interact with humans. She would always enter Yugi's dream, and the two would either talk or play games. Yugi only saw her as a good friend, Airo saw him as her soul mate. When the time would come for her to leave, he always gave her a hug and promised to return next time. Her heart wrenched for the youth, but his heart belonged to another. And he would do anything for Rose to earn and keep her love.

For now, Airo started to get comfortable on her bed. She was preparing herself to go to sleep and enter Yugi's dream, but something happened. DMG entered the room, a sad look on her face. Airo sighed and asked, "What is it now, DMG?". The spell-caster sat on the edge of her bed, looking directly in Airo's eyes. "You have to stop this now, Airo.", she softly said. She continued, "If you don't, you will only drive yourself mad.". The Harpie Lady shook her head and replied, "I do not care. I will continue to watch over Yugi until the end of time, and still hope that he and I will be together.".

DMG shook her head in a pitying manner, slowly stood up, and left the room quietly. Airo turned over in her bed, determined to hold on for her love for Yugi. 'Sure, Yugi maybe in love with that Rose girl. But, I'll still watch over him! If he ever encounters a heartbreak because of the wench, I'll be there to comfort him.', she told herself in her mind. Heh, not even the Egyptian God cards could make her change her mind.

So, she slowly went into a deep slumber. Now, she was with Yugi in a small, hidden meadow deep in a forest. He was sitting with his girlfriend Rose, both enjoying a small picnic and watching a small waterfall near a pond. Airo was certainly surprised by this dream, but steeled herself to go forth and greet Yugi. 'Yugi, I will always be here to protect and comfort you.', she vowed as she came close enough and made her presence known. Yugi was startled slightly, but allowed Airo to sit and have lunch with him and Rose. Thus, the Harpie Lady's love for the boy will remained unreturned.
