Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Soul Trade ❯ Sad trades ( Chapter 1 )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Mono: Okaaay. This, this is just wierd. This is sorta our take on the whole Pegasus soul-freeing thing.
Yeah, and we dont own Yugioh. Damn.
Sad amethyst eyes met the single, cruel silver one.
"Pegasus, release the Kaiba brothers and my Grandpa. Now." Yugi Motou stared down at the older man who was sitting on the extravagant chair.
Pegasus made a temple of his fingers and stared through his hair at the young duelist.
"Bravo Yugi-boy. You made it to my castle. You have beaten me in a duel, and now I will hold true to my word."
Yugi just stared and held his ground. Behind him Anzu, Jou, and Honda looked on nervously.
//Aibou, be careful. We don't know what tricks he has waiting for us.//
/I know Yami, I know. But let me handle this./
Pegasus stood and stepped towards Yugi.
"But...I can't just let you have all three... So, I think a trade is in order." He smiled, a cold, cruel smile.
"What kind of trade?" Asked Yugi, trying to stand strait and strong.
//Aibou, please! Let me talk to him!//
/No! I can handle this! I don't need you to do everything for me!/
He closed the link they shared and returned his whole attention to Pegasus.
"Hmm...I think a soul for a soul?" He gave an evil laugh, and stepped even closer to Yugi's friends.
"What!?" was cried in unison, shaking with fear.
"No." Said Yugi flatly. "You free them and we walk away unharmed and intact."
Pegasus just laughed and said "Yugi, Yugi, Yugi. Tsk tsk. You knew when you dueled me that you could only free one soul. The other two were to remain mine. But, if you insist on taking them all... I need a trade of some sort. Two for the price of one! Now, you my dear Yugi-boy, have to choose from among your friends, the one to trade."
He laughed as they all pulled away in fear and disgust.
"Hey, ya' big jerk! That aint right!" Jou started foreward but was stopped by the others.
"Dont make him mad man!"
"Honda's right, Jou. Be careful."
During all this, Yugi stood there, eyes glazed over, lost in thought.
<Me? Pick? From my friends? How could I chose for one person to die, so that two others can live? How? Wait...I think I know how.>
He snapped back to reality. Turning to his friends he quieted them and stared at Pegasus.
"Alright. I'll take your *trade*." he whispered. Looking up into the taller man's eye, he silently made his offer.
I know you can hear me. Don't make me say this out loud. You're a big enough bastard already, don't screw yourself even more.
Pegasus' one eye stared at the young one, marveling in the fact that he could say such things.
You're right Yugi-boy, I can hear you. Who would you choose? He grinned sadisticly.
Take me. Leave them be. Let them go, and take me. Yugi stared unwaiveringly into his eyes.
He had no want to go home, to go on like this. A shadow of a shadow. Lost in the "glory" of his Yami. Ignored by his friends unless he had something to offer, or something they could steal from him. They stole his emotions, takeing advantage of his empathy. His inability to reject anyone who came to help. In trusting them, knowing them, loving them... It always ended the same, with his heart on the floor, crushed under the foot of his so-called "friend".
He loathed his very existance.
Pegasus' eye grew wide, uncareing of the looks from Yugi's friends.
<He would do that? Give his soul for the soul of one who hates him, and one who doesn't even know him? Maybe I have underestimated the powers in this boy.>
Follow me and take one last look at freedom, Yugi-boy. The Shadow Realm awaits you... He snickered and started towards a door to the left.
Yugi looked at his "friends", seeing how each was afraid of his gaze. Thinking he would choose them. But he turned and walked slowly towards the door.
"Yugi! Wait up!" shouted Anzu. He just turned and shook his head, signaling her not to follow.
"I have to ...talk ... with him. See you later." He turned on his heel and walked towards the door, stopping right in front of it.
/Yami?/
//Yes? What are you doing, reasoning with this...this...monster??//
/Keeping my promise to Mokuba, Grandpa, and even Kaiba./
//I can tell that you're hiding something, what is it?//
/Yami.../
//Yes?//
/I loved you... never forget that./
He severed the link before Yami could answer, and stepped through the door.
Pegasus was waiting, holding some cards in his hands. Lined up along the floor were the bodies of his grandpa, Kaiba, and Mokuba.
"Here you are." Pegasus grinned and replaced the souls of the three on the floor. Three cards fell to the floor, blank.
He held a fourth so that Yugi could see it's face. It was blank, too. But underneath the empty picture, his name appeared in gold letters.
"Any last words?"
"Yes. Give them my body so they can do what they will. I dont care anymore..."
He looked upon the faces of the wakeing people, and as they opened their eyes, he stared. He looked right into
Kaiba's eyes when they opened, making sure he saw this happen. He turned and closed his eyes, head bowed slightly. A blinding light flashed in the three pairs of newly opened eyes. It spread into the corridor.
Yugi felt a ripping sensation, a seperation from his body, and Yami.
<Goodbye...>
Yami screamed when he realized what was happening, screamed for his hikari to come back.
The brothers Kaiba stared in disbelief as the small body crumpled and fell to the floor with a dull "thud." His Grandpa had tears running down his eyes, wishing that this was a dream, a horrible dream.
But he knew it wasn't.
Pegasus stared at the card as Yugi's picture appeared an it. His large amythest eyes stared out soulfully, shining with unshed tears. He looked so innocent, so vunerable.
He placed the card in a pocket of his coat. He looked at Seto and said, "Take that, and leave this island. Never come back." He pointed to the quiet lifeless body. "Now leave."
He turned and walked out the door past the group of teens.
Grandpa walked out first, head hung, tears running down his face. Next came Mokuba, staring ahead, walking in a daze. Lastly came Seto, carrying the small body in his arms, his eyes full of wonder, and pain. He too walked as though in a daze.
<He didn't even fight him, what was that? Why would he...?> Seto thought as he looked at the peacefull expression on the face of the Angel.
Anzu, Honda, Jou, and Bakura gasped and cried out, running towards the three. Anzu took one look and broke into tears, hiding her face in Honda's shirt. Jou and Bakura stared, faces pained. They scattered and let Kaiba through.
"What happened?!" sobbed Anzu.
"He saved them, and gave himself instead of one of us." Bakura whispered.
Pegasus went to his bed chambers and locked the doors. He removed the card from his pocket and took off the jacket and his shoes. He sat on the large bed and stared at the small figure painted on the card. He almost felt bad for what he did. Almost.
He set the card in a golden box with soft velvet lining, lovingly, and closed the lid.
Yugi felt himself, and yet, he didn't. He knew where he was, but not.
"This is my new home. Why don't I feel any better then? Now I get to spend eternity thinking about what I've done. Yes, I saved them, but at what price? My life? My soul? Now all I am is a whisper in the wind. Half a soul, trapped forever in this black eternity. Now I know how Yami must have felt inside the puzzle for 5000 years... I wonder what happened to him? Did he disapear? Or did he take over my body? Is he stuck in the puzzle once more?"
A hot and salty tear wound its way down the angelic face, to fall into nothingness. He curled into a fetal position and cried.
He cried for everything he lost. He had lost the chance to love, and be loved. The chance to have a family, a job, friends... Yami....
He knew that he had strong feelings for his Darkness. Deep enough to cause him pain to think about him. Now he was gone and he couldn't releive the pain. If it was possible, he hated himself even more now. What had he done?
How could he do this?
<But think, the Kaiba brothers are alive and safe, so is Grandpa.> Said a voice in his head.
<Yes, but everything is gone now. Yami, my friends, my life...> He said, reasoning with the voice.
<But now you don't have to worry about being hurt anymore.> The voice countered.
<But now I hurt worse than when I was "alive", or at least when I walked the mortal plane.>
He sighed and stared ahead into the darkness, not knowing if he was awake, or if this was just a horrible dream...
Yami sat in the corridor that seperated their two soul rooms. He stared at the door that stood imposingly in front of him. The door that was usually open, and welcoming. Now it was closed, locked. It was cold and threw off his very touch.
He traced meaningless patterns into the ground underneath him. Tears ran down his face as he cried out for his Hikari once more.
"Hikari! Yugi! Come back!" He shouted to the door.
He bowed his head and whispered to no one in particular, "Why did you do it Aibou? Kaiba hates you. Why give your soul to a monster for his? I told you to let me handle it. Why...? W-W-why?"
Tears flowed even harder now.
He sat up and decided that he might as well take over his body for now, just untill he got his Hikari's soul back.
Kaiba cradeled the empty shell to his chest as he boarded the plane. He was so cold, it was unnerving. Kaiba had been around dead bodies before, he was no stranger to the dead. But Yugi, he seemed...wrong.
<He shouldn't be like this. Lifeless, souless. It's my fault, I should have been more careful, kept my guard up higher.
Because of my stupid mistake, he's here in my arms. Never to find love, or friendship. Have a family, live his life.>
He sighed and stared out the window as the others climbed silently into the plane. Looking up at one of the towers of the castle, he was sure he saw Pegasus standing in the window looking down at them with a smile.
<He has what he wants, that bastard.>
<Why do you care about it? You're alive, and so is Mokuba. He has nothing to do with this.> Said a nasty voice in his head.
He looked down onto the silent figure's face, its features so determined, so innocent, so...silent.
<Dead. The only word to describe his face now is dead. I can't help but feel responsible. He could have left us, he have to do this. Why would he? Why do I care?>
<Because you feel for him. You love him. He's been nothing but a nice, gentle Angel to you, and you were so awful to him.>
Closing his eyes, he listened as Mokuba and Anzu wept quietly. Yugi's Grandfather was in a state of shock, as were Jou, Honda, and Bakura.
He pulled the silent face towards him and bowed his head, resting it in the silken hair.
<He smells so nice, so sweet.> A silent tear rolled down his cheek to land on the young face.
<Kaiba looks worried. Wonder why. He hated Yugi. He was always rude, mean, uncareing.>
Jou looked at the CEO whos sat across from him. He saw the way he stared at the face of the dead child. He wasn't quite sure but he thought he saw a tear in Kaiba's eye as he held the dead child close.
Yugi's body didn't seem dead really, just, wrong. Like he was unconcious, only he wasn't breathing or moving at all.
He was like a rag doll in Kaiba's arms.
Suddenly Kaiba's head snapped up, fear was evident in his eyes.
"Wh-wh-what the hell?" He yelled droping the small form to the floor.
"Kaiba! What did you do that for!" screamed Anzu. She sprang up and went to Yugi's body.
Kaiba had jumped out of his seat, taking small steps back. He stared in a sort of disbelief where he had been sitting.
"Yugi...What's going on? he-he-he..." He stopped stuttering as Anzu shrieked and fell back, trying to crawl away from the spot where she landed.
By now the others were thouroghly confused. What had made those two go crazy? Then they heard it. It was a strange, small, soft sound.
"Mmmhhh..." A small groan was heard from the floor, followed by a faint, "bastard..."
A tri-colered head of hair lifted off the floor with a small hand rubbing the back of it.
'Yugi' sat up and propped his back up on the wall. Looking up he was startled at the sight of five pairs of eyes staring at him in horror.
"Whats wrong with you people? Youre acting as though you've seen a ghost." He sighed and went to stand.
"Y-y-yugi?" stuttered his Grandfather. "No. I'm not Yugi. Yugi's gone. He-... I-", he stopped.
His eyes were full of tears that he knew he couldn't shed. This news was new to them, and he needed to be the tough-guy. So maybe they'll hate me but at least they won't hurt me. They'll be to afraid of what the Dark, souless bastard will do to them. Idiots, most of them anyways. and he buried his head in his arms.
"Well then," said Bakura, "Who the fuck are you? If you arent Yugi, then..."
"My...my name is Yami. I am Yugi's other. You of all people should understand, theif."
"What did you call me?!" Bakura shouted.
"Sorry *Bakura* you obviously don't remember me." said Yami. He stood up and stared at the others.
Yuugi didn't know how long he had been here. Time goes by differently in the Shadow realm. He felt as though he had been here for eternity already.
<Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream...merrily merily merrily merily, life is but....a ...dream...>
Yugi's stared ahead, into the nothingness. It was so quiet here. He recited anything he could, turning it into more of a mantra than anything else.
Mono: Okies, tell us wether or not to waste our time posting more or if y'all like it.
Yeah, and we dont own Yugioh. Damn.
Sad amethyst eyes met the single, cruel silver one.
