[ X - Adult: No readers under 18. Contains Graphic Adult Themes/Extreme violence. ]
—Stealing My Heart is here. Hopefully you guys like it. I have never actually written a Ryou/Bakura fanfic, so please forgive me if it's a little raw. If you guys remember Lustful Cravings, my first Ryou/Bakura lemon was there. So hopefully, Stealing My Heart won't be a total flop.
—About whether Thief King Bakura will be “Akefia” or “Bakura” - yes Akefia is his real name, from what I've come to understand. The debate on which name Bakura will have…you'll find out, never mind…on to the first chapter!
Chapter 1 - the White Demon
The sun was at its highest point in the sky. It was the time when barely anybody wanted to walk around in the hot and dry of the air. This was the perfect time for pickpockets to steal a bit of fruit or a half dead quail from a not-so-well attended stall or cart. Ryou pulled his hood down farther over his white hair so no one would notice it. His skin was less tan than everybody else's and that combined with his pure white hair made people suspicious.
Ryou inched closer to a stall where a man was calling to passers-by, “Melons for sale! Melons as tasty as nothing you've ever tried before! Come and buy the best melons in all of Egypt! Pharaoh Atemu himself has praised these melons!” He turned his back to Ryou. Quick as a flash, Ryou's hand darted out and snatched a melon. He retreated into a nearby alley in-between two houses to enjoy his prize.
After munching away the melon, Ryou walked towards the water seller's stall. This was probably the hardest stall to steal from. Not was the water seller a big man with the quick eyes of a falcon, but if he caught Ryou stealing, he would beat the boy until he bled forgiveness.
Ryou trembled when he saw the whip attached to the water seller's belt. Rumors had said that the man used to train the Pharaoh's guards. But those were just rumors. A tap on Ryou's shoulder startled him. It was another boy whom Ryou knew as just another pickpocket.
“We can help you get some water.” the pickpocket said. A couple of his friends came up behind their “leader.”
“All right.” Ryou said. They were at least three years younger than him, but he'd seen them work as a team to steal a whole goose once. “So what's the plan?”
“He's that white dem—” one boy was about to say, but the first boy punched his shoulder to shut him up.
“We know you're that white demon that people whisper about.” the first boy said. “We hear that the water seller is very superstitious. If you scare `im, we can steal a whole bucket of water from him.”
“Great idea!” Ryou said, smiling. These boys were awfully nice to aide him like this. Maybe he could ask them to be his friends. He'd never had any friends before.
“Okay. Go distract him, White Demon. Then, when the water seller isn't looking, we'll grab a bucket. Once we've got the bucket and run off. You run off too.” the first boy said.
Ryou nodded. “Right.” He stood and walked towards the water seller.
The water seller saw him and said in his gruff voice, “You got money, you get water, little boy.”
Ryou stopped just out of arm's reach. “Listen to me, mortal. You don't scare me.” He made his voice sound low and scary.
The water seller raised an eyebrow. “What's a-matter with you, boy? You sick?”
“Come and face me, mortal. If you dare!” He tore off his hood to expose his white hair. It gleamed in the sunlight perfectly.
The water seller's eyes widened. “I-It's the White Demon.”
“Yes.” Ryou gurgled. “Mwhahaha!” The water seller grabbed his whip and the boys stole from behind him and grabbed a bucket of water. Ryou saw them run away, but he didn't notice the hiss that came through the air, until he felt something sting his chest. He looked down at his shirt was ripped and there was a skinny, red welt of blood on his chest.
He fled before the whip could snap again. He zigzagged in-between house after house until he fled it safe to stop and catch his breath. Suddenly, he heard someone scream. He looked up and saw a woman peering out of a second-story window. “The White Demon!” she screeched.
Before Ryou could plead to her, she threw a yellow substance from a bucket out the window and right on top of him. He covered his hair and ran away. This is wonderful, he thought as he ran, not only does my wound hurt, but now I smell like piss.
He finally found the three boys who were downing the water like greedy pigs. Ryou was shocked that they'd start without him. But then they started talking and laughing about him.
“The water seller's probably beating that White Demon to a bloody stump!” laughed one boy.
Their leader gulped down some more water. “Yeah. I can't believe he actually thought we were going to help him. What a fool?!”
It had all been a game! A trick, a ruse…and all just to get some water to fill their bellies. Ryou was boiling with anger now. He marched over and two of the boys saw him coming. They ran away, but their leader turned and saw Ryou towering over him. He was about to run, but Ryou grabbed him by the hair and threw him in the ground. He tackled the poor boy and started punching his face.
The other two tackled Ryou and pinned him to the ground. They hit and kicked him. Their leader, who was more or less all right, grabbed a stick and joined in the beating. Ryou managed to get away and ran as the boys started pelting him with rocks and sticks.
“Go back to Seth where you belong, White Demon!” shouted the leader. (Author: Seth is the Egyptian god of the desert, storms, and violence.)
Ryou ran as fast as he could until he was out of the city entirely. He stopped when he saw the Nile River in the distance. He looked behind him at the city, still bustling with life. He hated it. He hated all of it. They thought he was nothing more than a demon sent by the god Seth to make everyone miserable. But the only miserable one was Ryou.
Instead of cupping his hands in the river, Ryou stripped bare and walked into the shallow waters of the Nile. He eased himself down until only his head was poking out above the water. The wound in his chest stung badly and his new bruises hurt even worse. After letting the waters stoke in for a while, Ryou proceeded to get his hair moderately clean of piss and blood.
Just as he was finishing the job, somebody tackled him and forced him to stay underwater. Ryou thrashed about and heard some voices he recognized. Those little brats had followed him! Now one of them was proceeding to drown him! He heard another say, “Give me his clothes.”
“What if he doesn't live?” asked the one trying to drown Ryou.
“He's a demon, he'll live.” said the first boy. Ryou heard slicing and tearing and wicked laughter coming from the boys.
Osiris, Ryou thought as he felt himself slipping away, please just take me away now. The boy released him as he stopped struggling, but that's not why he left.
Somebody hauled Ryou out of the water and poked his side. “Is he dead?” asked a man.
Ryou was fading in and out of consciousness. He saw figures in black, hooded cloaks, riding horses. The figure that had hauled him from the river said, “No. He's alive. Let's leave him. He doesn't have anything valuable. The master is waiting for us.”
He threw something at Ryou's side and then the figures rode away. Ryou blacked out before he could thank them.
—What do ya think? Not much so far, but it's getting there. Keep in mind that this takes place maybe half a year before the Thief King raids the Pharaoh's tomb or bursts into Atemu's throne room or kills Priest Mahaado.
—By the way, Osiris is the Egyptian god of the dead - not to be confused with Anubis who is the god of embalming. That's just in case nobody knew that -I looked this stuff up…yeah, so…the next Chapter will be up….erm, someday soon.
