.Yugi kept his hands in his pockets, staring at the ground as he walked home alongside his Yami, who he had just been out on a date with. It had been their first date, and since he had realized he had feelings for Yami, Yugi had been unable to talk to him without blushing and uttering a load of rubbish. He could tell Yami was looking at him as they walked, and this made him feel even more nervous. But Yami was nervous too, none of them had really said much to each other on their date, Yugi had been avoiding Yami ever since he had asked him out.
"Yugi, are you feeling alright?" Yami asked interrupting the silence between them.
"What?" he asked, finally looking up at him, but turning back to the ground again after, "Yeah, I'm fine, why?"
"You just haven't said much this whole evening, in fact I think you've been trying to avoid me. Yugi if I'm making you uncomfortable in any way just say so,"
"No it's not that, it's just that I…" Yugi began before blushing hotly and turning away from him.
Their conversation was suddenly interrupted by the sound of thunder crashing which made Yugi jump and cling on to his yami. Yami smiled down at him.
"You scared of thunder storms aibou?" he asked.
"No, well yes, I mean," he stopped and hugged closer to Yami at the sound of another crash of thunder. Then suddenly rain began to pour down on them. Yami got an idea, seeing an old abandoned house that had been there for years, just across the road from them.
"Come on Yugi, let's hide out in here until the storm dies down," he said taking his hand and leading him across to the house garden.
"But we can't go in there, the storm won't be that long, Yami let's just go…" another crash of thunder and Yugi was once again stuck to his Yami trembling.
"I don't really think you want to walk home in this," he said before leading him over to the doorway. The door was locked but they managed to climb in through a window.
They found themselves in what used to be a sitting room, there were a few old chairs, a fireplace and the room was filled with dust and cobwebs. Yugi shivered.
"I don't like it in here…" he said. Yami put an arm round him. Yugi blushed lightly, but nuzzled into his yami's warm embrace. Yami looked out the window at the heavy storm outside.
"We'll just wait until it dies down a bit, it could be dangerous walking home in that, there's lightening now as well," he said, stroking his light's back to calm him down.
Surprisingly, Yugi no longer felt nervous being with Yami. He liked the way he held him. Being in the house was bad enough. He would have been even worse if he didn't have Yami with him. There was silence between them but not like before, they were both happy being with each other despite the storm and the house. After a while the thunder and lightening stopped. But the rain continued to pour.
"Yugi, I think it's safe to go home now," he said.
"Ok, this place is really creeping me out," he said.
"Scared of ghosts as well are we?" he asked.
"No," said Yugi. "It's just that it's dark and really quiet, it makes me kind of edgy,"
"Well, we're going home now, we'll have to hurry it's still raining outside,"
Taking his hand again, Yami led him outside, and Yugi let him hold his hand as they walked home together. They had the house to themselves as Yugi's mother and Grandfather had gone to visit relatives. They left their jackets and shoes in the hallway and headed upstairs. Yugi went to his room to undress, and Yami did so quickly in his room before running back downstairs. Yugi was drying his hair off in his room when Yami walked in carrying a tray, with two mugs of hot chocolate and chocolate biscuits, along with some towels draped over his arm.
"What's all this for?" Yugi asked.
"To help us warm up," he said, before moving behind Yugi and helping him to dry his hair. "You don't want to catch a cold." He said.
"This is really nice of you, thanks," he said blushing again.
"Yugi, you don't have to be nervous around me," he said.
"I'm not nervous, I'm just, I'm," he stammered, not knowing what to say. Yami smiled at him and continued to dry his hair for him. They sat like that in another long silence before Yami dragged the tray over and handed Yugi a mug of the hot chocolate.
"Thanks," he said. He watched his yami as he began to drink his hot chocolate. He never realized he felt this way before, and he didn't know how much longer he could keep it in. Yami was beginning to feel the same way, and set down his mug, ready to tell Yugi how he felt, but was stopped when he felt his hikari's lips
press lightly against his in a small kiss.
