Just Normal Liaisons
"Oten," Cali said, then looked up at Bakura and Calliope. Only one thing ran across her mind. Escape. Bakura was looking panicked, and Calliope was looking interestedly at the old window latchings.
"Do these work, Bakura?"
"How am I supposed to know? I hardly live here."
"Let us try them, then."
They proceeded to unlatch the window locks with some difficulty. They were old, rusty, and barely used. Cali stuck her head out, looking for Oten. She found him. He and the others had surrounded the house.
"We're trapped."
"Not quite, Cali," Calliope said.
"What do you mean?"
"Oh!" Bakura had just caught on, and he began nodding his head.
"Cali; meteorizomai. I'll take Bakura and you can take his trunk."
Cali had forgotten she possessed that one. She quietly nodded.
Luckily, the window was quite large and they could fit through it, but just barely. Bakura climbed out first and leaped carefully over to the next window. He stood on the sill, waiting for Calliope.
"Meteorizomai ego o idios," Calliope said confidently. She rose into the air, then soared out the window. She picked Bakura up and they landed safely on the roof.
Cali wasn't so sure about this. She whispered the incantation tentatively, afraid of falling again. As she began to hover, she picked the suitcase up by its handle and flew out the window, joining Calliope and Bakura in a rather rocky landing.
"So where are we going now?" Bakura asked, and was promptly shushed by Calliope. She slapped his hand over his mouth and pushed him flat on the roof, hissing. Cali wasn't sure what kind of relationship they had in the past, exactly, but she had the feeling it wasn't romantic.
"Shhh! They can still hear us, you imbecile!"
"Yeah, yeah…" Bakura remembered to whisper, but then grabbed Calliope's shoulders and flipped her over onto her back, leaning over her. He paused, and looked like he was about to kiss her, but backed away to sit next to her instead.
"I think we should go to Cali's house. It will take them a while to reach us, and from there we can explain things and formulate a plan," Calliope suggested as she stood.
"Fine by me," Cali whispered.
Bakura nodded, smirking as he got up.
"What are you so happy about?" Calliope asked.
"Oh, nothing, really…" he said, pushing her off the roof.
Cali ran to the side and looked over the edge, but Calliope was already coming back up. She was hovering in the sky, arms crossed and a deadly expression on her face.
"Very funny, Bakura," she said, surprisingly civilly, "but now it's my turn."
She conjured up a fireball and hurled it at him, trusting that his reflexes hadn't rusted over a few millennia. Of course, they hadn't, and the tree on the other side of the roof caught fire, splitting and cracking down the middle. It broke quickly and landed on one of the "others;" a lucky break. They used this distraction to take off towards Cali's house, leaving Bakura's unnoticed.
What is going on with these two? Cali was very confused.
Calliope seemed to have no difficulty soaring through the air, but Cali still felt uncomfortable with it. I don't think I'll ever get the hang of this. The suitcase that she was carrying was heavy, bulky, and hard to get a grip on, so Cali thought she was about to drop it the whole way.
They landed on the roof of Cali's apartment building. Oten and the "others" hadn't even noticed they'd gone yet. Cali lived on the top floor, and so she only had to lug the trunk one floor. Bakura and Calliope didn't seem to notice her troubles with it at all, continuing to walk ahead, eventually passing her door. Serves them right. Cali took out her key and entered, glancing at the clock to see how long it would take them to notice. I'm surprised Calliope doesn't remember which one it is. They knocked. Not bad.
She let them in, smirking slightly. They ignored her, continuing their little discussion, probably of the past, leaving Cali out altogether. I'm getting a little tired of this. She cleared her throat deliberately. Bakura barely looked around, complimented it, then went back to speaking with Calliope. She, however, finally noticed Cali's annoyance and touched Bakura's shoulder, whispering a spell.
"Dianemo…"
The light overtook Bakura as he separated from his light, who was looking as clueless as Cali. Smiling at the familiar face, Cali suddenly felt more comfortable and more of herself.
"Would anyone like something to eat?"
Everyone agreed and she and Ryou went off to find some crackers and cheese and drinks and chopped vegetables and chips and …
As soon as she was gone, Bakura whipped around, hissing at Calliope.
"Just what do you think we're going to tell her? How is the plan supposed to work this way, when she realizes you've been leading her on this whole time?"
"Hush, Bakura," Calliope said, running a finger faux-seductively along his chin. "It's simple; all we have to do is tell her the truth."
