DISCLAIMER: I don't own Yugioh or any of it's characters. I do own my OC.

I never really explained that much about Cali, figuring I'd weave it in later, but why do that when I could just tell you in a chapter??? Ok, I was just going to tell you but then I made it a chapter, so there are events in here too.

Cali's Story

Cali opened her laptop computer, sitting on her guest room bed. She searched for home listings in Domino City. Looks like I'm going to be here for a while…better get a house. I can't stay here forever, although…Money wasn't a problem to her; Scizoran Enterprises was a highly successful business.

She highlighted several options on the computer screen, deciding to investigate them in more detail later. Right now, she really needed a walk to think. She grabbed a black jacket and headed to the park.

Maybe I should head back home. I might not find what I'm looking for here. Then again, I've only been here a few days. I might just not have enough trust yet. Yes that's it. It must be.

She sat down on a bench overlooking the pond. I hope Mokuba doesn't decide to go swimming tonight. He's such a sweet kid. He's so concerned over his brother though…No! Why am I so attached to Mokuba? I can't trust anybody! At least that's what Pegasus said…well I shouldn't trust people anyway…not after what happened…Pegasus just said I need the Millennium Items. I just wish he had told me which ones. Or do I need all of them? I think I should get them all, then I'm sure to have the ones I need. I just can't trust people. I already am already. Like Mokuba. How couldn't I trust such an innocent little child? And Yugi- he's so nice, but I wonder about him sometimes. Yesterday, he seemed different when he was teaching me how to play duel monsters. Wait. Didn't Pegasus say something about yamis in the items? THAT'S IT! Yugi must have an item with a spirit. Thanks a lot, Pegasus. Uh oh, I trust Pegasus. !. What if he didn't tell me which items to get on purpose so that I would get all of them. He knew I would trust him, and that would leave me vulnerable to him…he's going to take them from me! Stupid Pegasus. I really can't trust anybody. This is awful. I can't do anything. I think I need to trust some people though, I mean, how will I live? Not Yugi though. I couldn't bear stealing from a friend. Mokuba. He's good. He doesn't have an item, I think, and he's sweet and nice. He would never do anything to me…

Mokuba sneaked up behind Cali as she was deep in her own thoughts, and scared her. (hehe, really innocent, isn't he?)

Oh my god! Mokuba!

"Mokuba! Why you little…"

Mokuba just grinned and ran, inviting her to chase him.

"You just watch out! I'll get you…!" She took flight.

Mokuba ran and ran all through the park, Cali right on his tail the whole time. Eventually he grew tired and collapsed in the grass. Cali took the opportunity to tickle him mercilessly. Then they just laid there, unknowing that Seto Kaiba was watching them.

"Mokuba, what are you doing?"

"Big brother! We were playing!"

"I'm sorry, Seto. I didn't realize it had gotten so late." Cali said.

"Mokuba, go home. I have to discuss something with Cali."

"Ok, Seto." Mokuba answered, with a wink. Kaiba merely ruffled his hair in response.

Seto and Cali walked slowly in the park.

"Are you rethinking the online tournament, Seto?" Cali asked.

"No." Seto said, looking ahead of him.

"Then why did you want to talk to me?"

"You've been spending a lot of time with my brother."

"I know."

"Why? Why don't you spend time with people our age?"

"Well, I…Um…"

"What's going on with you, Cali?"

"I just haven't made too many friends here."

"It's your own fault."

"What?"

"You don't trust people."

"Of course I…I guess you're right."

"Do you trust Mokuba?"

"Yes."

"What about me?" Seto asked, stopping, looking at the pond.

"Well, see, I, uh…" Cali answered weakly, not looking him in the eye.

"What made you this way?"

"What way?" Cali asked, relieved that he hadn't given her enough time to answer his other question.

"Unable to trust. Something must have happened."

Cali sighed, and said, "A long time ago, my parents were working on a revolutionary microchip. It was a powerful piece of technology. I don't really know what it did. I just know it was important. One night, big men broke into our house. I was awake already, just because I couldn't sleep. One of them picked me up, felt me, and threw me against a wall. I couldn't get up but I was conscious. My mother came running out of their bedroom. The men hadn't been in there yet. She gave me the chip, telling me never to give it up. Then one of the men found her and hit her hard on the head. She died. The men searched her body for the microchip but couldn't find it. I pretended to be unconscious. They ransacked our house from head to toe, but left, deciding we didn't have the chip at our house. They didn't know I had it because one had already checked me for it, and bypassed me."

"I'm sorry, Cali. I didn't know…"

"That's not even the worst. All these attackers…they were all people we knew. Our neighbors, my teacher from school, and the grocer we went to. That's why I can't trust."

"Oh."

"Seto, I want to be able to. I just can't."

They were silent for a long time, just looking out at the pond. Seto was trying to build up the courage to tell Cali about what he felt. I have to tell her. I want her to know she can trust me. Does she already? She trusts Mokuba… I want her to trust me so much. I have to.

"Cali…"

"Yes, Seto?" she asked, looking at him.

"I know you don't…I mean…well, I…"

"Seto?"

"What I mean to say is…uh…"

"Are you ok?"

"No! I'm not ok. Ever since the day we met, I haven't been ok. I'm going against my normal behavior and the way I like to live. It's something so strange, I'm surprised anyone ever knows it. Cali, I love you."

*awkward pause*

"WHAT? NO, YOU CAN'T!" Cali burst, stepping back, preparing to run away.

"Cali, wait…"

"YOU JUST CAN'T!"

and she was gone.

Seto Kaiba was so taken aback by Cali's response, he collapsed right where he was standing, falling into a muddy bank. I had hoped…but if she didn't, I thought she would tell me nicely. She seems so timid…now I've made a fool out of myself. Great, here comes Yugi and Tea. I'll bet Tea doesn't even notice Yugi staring at her…well, at least he backed off from Cali. Joey Wheeler, too, with…who is that? Tristan and Joey's sister? Holding hands? Heh, looks like he finally got one. I wish I could be with Cali…

"Yo, Kaiba, what happened to you?" Joey's (really fake sounding) New York accent sounded.

"None of your business, you…butthead."

"Seto, are you all right?" Serenity asked.

"Of course he's not all right, he can't even think of good insults! I could probably think of something better, like-" Tristan said.

"Watch it, hotshot!" Joey warned. His best friend WAS dating his little sister, after all.

"Just leave me alone." Seto said, looking out at the pond, still sitting in the mud.

"I know what it is." Serenity said. Kaiba looked up at her. "It's Cali, right?" Kaiba merely looked down.

"HA! The famous Seto Kaiba, having GIRL problems!" Joey and Tristan hooted with laughter.

"I'm….going home…" Kaiba said in response.

Why can't I even think? I can't believe they all saw me this way. What am I doing, just lying in the mud? Could that Scizoran girl really have brought me to this?

Serenity: Poor Seto. I just know his heart is broken. Even though it's small, it made room for one more besides Mokuba, and he was declined. Oh, that Cali! I hate to see Kaiba, normally so headstrong, acting so defeated. I think I'm going to have to pay her a visit…
