Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Stranger of the Duel ❯ The Rescue...uh...sure..... ( Chapter 10 )
Disclaimer: I'm sure you all know I don't own Yugioh… and I don't claim to have possession of it, hence the disclaimer.
Note: The paragraphs, italics, and bolds always get a little messed up- maybe because I'm using Windows XP… anyway, if something seems strange, try saying it out loud or maybe just use it in context. Oh, and please review.
Another note: I am so sorry for the last chapter. I know, I know… it's a load of just blah nothingness and I am utterly sorry for what I have done to Seto and Yugi, practically desecrating the respectfulness of their characters. Sorry. Oh, and for those of you who laughed- shame on you! You know who you are… lol
Sorry, one more note: I apologize for not updating in so long, over a month, wow! …I've been pretty busy. Ok, well that wasn't the note. I'm gonna call Yugi by Yugi now… heh, because in the last chapter Yami was out because of all the danger and all… um, yeah. Danger.
The Rescue! uh…sure…
There was a narrow ladder leading into another passage. This one wasn't lit though, so out came Seto's flashlight! (Hey, I just like this flashlight…) The two enemies lowered themselves down into the tunnel. It was very thin, so they had to walk single file through.
Soon the tunnel ended at thick wooden door, with a surly guard with a thick nightstick as a weapon. (Correction: a surly, SLEEPING guard) Seto merely laughed, kicking him as he passed.
Unfortunately, this woke him from his slumber. He groggily reached for his stick, but Yugi grabbed it before him, beating him semi-lightly on the head. He was out like a light again, without any noise. Seto smirked; he probably would've sent the robed guard into a coma with that weapon! Stupid Yugi; he wouldn't hurt anyone, even if he would die doing it. Pathetic.
"It's locked," Yugi said disappointedly.
Again, all Seto could do was let out a small chuckle. He pulled out a little Swiss Army knife (which he had designed), selecting a lock pick. He inserted it into the lock, jiggled it around a little, and voila! The lock was open.
"Is that legal, Kaiba?"
Shrug in response.
The door opened up into a dungeon, a row of damp, dark cells, with iron bars. Most were rusted and old, but four were renovated, newly oiled, and ready for use. The new cells were in the next compartment though, out of our heroes' sight.
"Hey!" Uh oh. Three guards came running…and they weren't sleep-running, either. The boys took off their jackets quickly, throwing them to the side. Seto cracked his neck, but just stood there. Yugi, on the other hand, brought his fists up and began to run towards the near guards.
Seto did have to give him some credit; he wasn't a wimp. After seeing the strength of Yugi's first punch, even in spite of his size, Seto's respect for him grew. Slowly. Since Seto was bigger, two of the guards rushed to him, leaving one with Yugi. That was a bad idea. Yugi soon had the lights knocked out of him.
The two that Seto got were the ugliest and biggest of all of Talon's followers. Seto still didn't move as they approached, preferring for them to get closer before striking. As soon as they got in arm's range, Seto snapped into action, extending one leg and bending the other, fingers brushing the ground. He swung his long leg around in a circle, promptly knocking his opponents to the floor. The stupid guards had had their clubs above their heads, ready to crush Kaiba, so as they fell, the clubs dropped onto their heads. Ouch.
Yugi had already taken care of his guard, and so he helped Seto make sure these two wouldn't wake up any time soon. He also checked Seto, making sure he didn't "accidentally" kill the guards.
"Kaiba, let's go…"

Meanwhile, Cali was sitting in her cold cell, waiting for a call from her friends, namely Seto. All this time alone got her thinking about everything, including him. Why did I ruin everything? Now I'll never get the items, just sitting here. I've got to get out. …No, it's no use trying to get the Millennium Items if I can't …steal them. Look what I have become. I never thought I'd ever be stealing. I've made a mess of everything. At least I have Seto. (sigh) No, I don't even have Seto. I yelled at him and shoved him away. I truly have wrecked my life.
For the first time since she was seven (her mother's death), Cali began to cry. It wasn't normal crying though; she hardly realized she was doing it until she felt the tears drip onto her hand.
No, you still have hope.
This sudden voice surprised Cali. It was a woman's voice, nurturing, but still… there was something about it that was serious and efficient, like Cali herself.
"What?" Cali whispered.
You still have part of me, and I can help.
"Who-who are you?"
Cali, you know me. I have been shut away for so long, gathering bits of myself, so now I can completely be me. No more riding on you.
Calliope.
Yes.
You can hear my thoughts?
I am still part of you. You are my reincarnation. I will always know you.
You are my yami.
No. You are me, but the memories have been locked by Talon. You won't know me but I will know you.
Then…what do I call you?
Calliope's fine.
"Calliope," Cali said, testing it out. This was a lot to swallow.
Suddenly, Cali heard a shout. The guards discovered intruders! Seto.
The guards were passing when Cali heard Calliope. Catch.
The ring of keys attached to one guard's belt unfastened itself, floating in the air as the guards rushed through the doors. The keys slowly glided over to Cali. Fascinated, she gaped as they landed right in her outstretched palm.
How did you…?
Powers of the Muse, my namesake and distant relative.
You're not mortal!
Not completely anyway; just a demigoddess.
Still, this is amazing. I suppose this is part of the reason Talon chose you as part of his plan?
Of course, but he and the others can't remember this little fact any longer. I aided in that.
Good.
Cali slipped her hand through the bars, putting the keys one by one into the lock. Finally, one fit and Cali escaped. She and Calliope tapped into the Muse's powers to open the large ventilation shaft above the corridor. Cali floated up and out of the Museum.
It was at this time Seto and Yugi came bursting through the door heroically… of course, too late… Cali saved herself… This was the end of the line of the dungeons.
"Cali was here," Kaiba said, half to himself.
"How do you know?"
Seto pointed. Cali left her phone. As the two were looking around, trying to figure out where that evil Talon had taken her, Yugi noticed the open shaft and pointed it out to Seto.
Do you think it's anything?
This is an old building, Yugi. It's probably nothing.
"Do you think she could have escaped?"
Seto looked up the shaft.
"Probability is low; 0-10%. No method of elevation."
Typical Kaiba.
"It's getting late, Yugi. I doubt we could find her today."
"We're this far, why not keep trying?"
"You can; I'm going home."
You shouldn't stay here alone; it's not safe.
Fine, I guess we could leave.
"Okay, we'll come back tomorrow."
Seto shrugged. They made their way back up to the surface, where it was very dark and the middle of the night. They had had no idea how long they had been in the maze under the Museum.
Yugi and Seto called for their ride back to their homes. Soon the long limousine returned; the driver didn't ask any questions. Sitting in the back lounge, Seto started tinkering with the phone, relenting to his soft spot for all things technological.
That's when it hit him. Cali owns a business. She's not only going to have one means of communication on her. He started searching the phone for a pager or beeper number, hacking his way into the password-protected phone, but found something even better. Talon had placed a tracking device on her, in case she was rescued, and with Kaiba's high frequencies, he was able to tap into that.
Suddenly, he pulled his wallet out again and pulled her card out. Her address matched her coordinates.
Cali was safe.
