A/N: Some of our wonderful readers seem to be a little confused about Seto and Tristan's relationship. It's not about sex. It's about love. Deeper than friendship, but not a romantic type love. It's about them being there for each other, however it's needed. Well, we think we may have explained it better in this chapter. If you still don't understand after you're done reading, email us and we'll explain it to you. Sometimes you get so wrapped up in your character's relationships that you know them inside and out, and you think everyone else should too. But that's not always the case. Please let us know if you're still confused.

"Joe! Wake up!"

Joey tried to ignore the voice, but someone started shaking him.

"Wake UP!!"

Joey sat up, rubbing his eyes, to see Keith sitting on the bed, a worried expression on his face. "What's wrong?"

"Joe…they're looking for you."

"Huh?" Joey clenched his throbbing head between both hands. "Who's looking for me?"

"Kaiba." Keith grabbed him by the arm. "Joe, we can't let them find you!"

"But, Keith…"

"If you go back, they're going to get really pissed. When they find out you've been using again, they'll either kick you out, or put you in some stupid clinic and tell everyone you're hooked again."

"But I'm not!" Joey couldn't think for the pounding in his head. "Why would they kick me out?"

"Don't be stupid, Joe! Once they find out where you've been, and who you've been with," He pointed to himself. "There's going to be hell to pay. No telling what Kaiba'll do to me."

"But…" Joey's eyes went wide and scared. "I don't want anything to happen to you, Keith! I don't want you to get hurt!"

"You don't think Kaiba won't send his goons after me? And what about Bakura?"

Joey started to panic. "No! Keith…I can't let that happen! You've been so good to me…I don't know what would have happened if you hadn't been there for me!"

"Joe," Keith pulled the trembling blond into his arms. "I don't want you to leave. Stay with me…please?"

[Gods, what do I do?! I don't want Keith hurt. He's right. Seto'll come after him. They'll blame it all on him. I don't want to go back into a clinic. It almost killed me last time. I can't go through that again. I'd never be able to convince Yugi I'm not hooked again. I can't leave Keith. I owe him too much. And he'll keep me safe. He promised to take care of me.]

Joey wrapped his arms around the older blond. "I won't leave you, Keith. You were there for me when I needed someone the most."

Keith didn't respond, just pushed Joey back on the bed and kissed him hungrily, running his hands over the other's body.

Joey clenched his teeth against the pain of the cuts littering his body and the let down headache. "Keith…Keith, please…not now..."

"Show me that you care, Joe." Keith demanded, pulling off his shirt. "Show me."

Joey pushed aside his pain and did as he was told.

~*~*~*~*~

Tristan climbed from the car and stood for a moment, taking in his surroundings.

The "cottage" was in actuality a huge house with eight suites, a boardroom, formal dining room, enormous kitchen and a full staff. It clung to the edge of a cliff, the ocean pounding below. About a hundred feet away from the house was the stables. It housed twelve horses at present with the wrangler's apartment above. Several small cottages dotted the property and were home to some of the staff.

Tristan grabbed his bag from the trunk and climbed the wide, sweeping stairs onto the huge veranda that surrounded the house. The door swung open to reveal a middle aged gentleman with iron grey hair and a regal bearing.

"Thomas." Tristan acknowledged the butler.

"Mr. Taylor. We've been expecting you." Thomas relieved him of his bag and gestured towards the winding staircase. "I've opened up the main suite for you."

"Thanks."

"Is there anything you need, sir?"

"How about a cup of coffee on the veranda?"

"Certainly, sir. I'll bring it out to you myself."

Tristan walked from the foyer and through the dining room, opening the massive French doors and letting himself out onto the veranda. He sat down on a large bench and gazed out at the ocean.

/I hope Seto can make it up to Yugi. I don't know what the hell I was thinking. That's just the problem though…I wasn't thinking. And neither was Seto. Why is it that we never seem to be able to think straight when something like that happens? I shouldn't have asked…he should have said no. Damn! Everything's so screwed up! And it's all my fault. How did I manage to fuck everything up so bad?]

His thoughts were interrupted by Thomas. The middle aged butler set a steaming cup on a table at Tristan's elbow.

"Anything else, Mr. Taylor?"

"Yeah, actually. Could you have Shiner saddle up Cricket for me in about a half hour?"

"Yes, sir."

When Thomas left, Tristan let himself relax. He pushed up his sunglasses and wearily rubbed his eyes. He felt like he hadn't slept in weeks, and between work and the problems with Joey, he really hadn't. When he did manage to sleep, he had been plagued with nightmares. Nightmares about Joey dying, or being lost and hurt, trying to reach him and not being able to. He sat there, reliving those nightmares, fighting back a pain in his chest that made it difficult to breathe.

/Damn it, Joey…I miss you so much./ He pulled the chain out of his shirt and caressed Joey's ring with his thumb. /Gods…it's really over. You wouldn't have taken this off unless it was. I just wish I could see you one more time… to tell you how sorry I am./

He picked up his coffee, noticing it was cold. And he had a lit cigarette in his hand.

/What the hell..?/

"Excuse me, Mr. Taylor?" A young woman in a maid's uniform stood nervously next to him.

"Yes?"

"Your horse is saddled, sir."

"Um, thanks." Tristan tried to get a grip on himself. "How long have I been sitting here?"

"An hour and a half, sir."

Tristan pulled his sunglasses back down to hide the apprehension in his eyes and grinned at the woman. "You sure can lose track of time here."

"Most definitely." She smiled.

"Tell Shiner I'll be right out."

"Yes, sir."

Tristan put out his cigarette and stood. /I'm losing it. Gods! What's happening to me? I feel like I'm losing control. Where the hell did the last hour and a half go?/

He tucked Joey's ring back into his shirt and tried to shake it off the feeling of disorientation as he left the veranda and headed toward the stable.

Seeing the Palomino mare saddled and tied to a hitching post next to the stable doors, he smiled. "Hey, girl. How ya been?"

The horse stamped her hoof and snorted, clearing reprimanding Tristan for making her wait. Tristan laughed, rubbing her neck affectionately.

"Tristan!"

Tristan turned around. There was only one person here who called him anything but Mr. Taylor.

"Shiner! Long time no see, man!" Tristan held his hand out to the short Mexican.

Shiner shook his hand, peering up at him from his whole five foot two inches. "What are you doing out here? Did you bring your boyfriend?"

"No." Tristan turned back toward the horse, making a show of checking the girth. "I just needed to get out of the city."

"Right." Shiner replied, his tone clearly stating that he knew Tristan was avoiding his question. "Well, she'll be frisky. She hasn't been ridden in a while. Think you can handle her?"

Tristan rolled his eyes and swung up into the saddle. "Seto really needs to bring in something other than these lounge chairs he's so fond of."

"You sound like Yugi." Shiner chuckled, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Seto's not much of a rider, but that doesn't mean no one else is. He's afraid of horses, and they know it."

"Don't let him hear you say that. Heaven forbid that someone should find out he's not perfect."

Shiner laughed again, giving the horse a swat on the rump. "Make sure you work the kinks out of her before you open her up."

"Yes, sir." Tristan saluted the man.

Shiner shook his head and headed back into the stable. "Enjoy your ride, Tristan."

Tristan turned the horse towards the beach, letting her pick her own way down the incline until they reached the sand. He walked her slowly for a while until she started dancing beneath him.

"Ready to run, are you?"

The horse twitched her ears back at the sound of his voice. Tristan chuckled and tightened his grip with his legs, making sure he had the reins firmly in hand. Cricket took off, pounding through the sand, giving Tristan a respite from his thoughts.

~*~*~*~*~

Seto punched in his security code, frowning when the computer room door didn't open. He input the code again, thinking that maybe he'd done it wrong the first time. When the door failed to open again, he scowled.

"Sadie, open the door."

`I'm sorry, Seto. I can't. Yugi wants to be alone.'

"Now, Sadie."

`Yugi asked me not to let anyone disturb him.'

"Open this fucking door right now or I swear I'll take you off line!"

`There's no need to swear, Seto.'

Seto growled and suddenly the door slid silently open. He stepped inside and allowed his eyes to adjust to the dim light before moving forward. He could see Yugi sitting in one of the high-backed chairs in front of the console with a pair of cordless headphones on.

Seto sat down in the chair next to him, swiveling it so he was facing his husband. Yugi looked up, his face expressionless, and took off the headphones.

"Baby, we need to talk." Seto said quietly.

"I know." Pain flashed in the amethyst depths. "I've been thinking a lot about it."

"And?"

"I'm still hurt. But I think I understand."

Relief shot through Seto, so intense it made him dizzy. "You do?"

"Well, kinda." Yugi fiddled with the buttons on his shirt. "Seto, do you love him?"

"Yes, I do. But it's not the same way I love you." Seto hastened to explain when Yugi's eyes filled with tears. "Baby, please…let me try to explain. Tristan is…he's…important to me."

"Am I important to you?" Uncertainty and self-consciousness glanced across Yugi's features.

"Yugi…" Seto reached out and took Yugi's hand in his, relieved when he didn't pull away. "You and Yami are more important to me than anything. I love you."

"If you love us so much, why did you sleep with Tristan?" Yugi's eyes grew hard, but Seto could see he was having a difficult time maintaining his anger.

"I told you. He needed me. It's not an excuse. It's the truth." Seto reached over and brushed Yugi's bangs from his eyes. "I can't explain it. It's like he's…I need to…"

Yugi sighed, tightening his grip on Seto's hand. "He's your other half. Kinda like Yami's mine. Right?"

It was like a bolt of lightening out of the blue. {Gods! That makes such perfect sense!}

"Yami said it was like you two had a bond kind of like ours." Yugi sat forward a little.

Seto nodded. "I need him near me. It's like…like there's something missing when I don't see him for a while. I know he feels the same way."

"That's what Yami said. That you needed each other to feel complete, but it doesn't take away from how you feel about us."

"What else did Yami say?" Seto was wondering how Yami could see it so much clearer than him or Tristan.

"That you guys show it in different ways than we do. Kinda like how you always have to be touching each other. I guess…I guess it's what keeps you connected, huh? Like mine and Yami's mind link."

"I never thought about it that way. It makes sense. But Yugi, what happened last night…it doesn't mean I love him like I love you. And it doesn't mean I'm going to leave you. Tristan is my friend. He's very special to me, but he's my FRIEND. You're my husband. You and Yami are my life. Do you understand?"

Yugi nodded.

"I'm being honest with you, Yugi. I can't apologize to you for what happened last night with Tristan. But…I am sorry for hurting you. I never meant to hurt you." Seto slipped off his chair to kneel in front of the smaller man, his breath caught in a small sob and he laid his head in Yugi's lap. "I love you, baby."

Yugi could feel Seto's tears soaking into the material of his pants. He ran his hands through his husband's thick, brown hair. "I love you too. And I forgive you."

Seto lifted his head and Yugi reached out to gently wipe the tears from his face. He leaned down and placed a soft kiss on the brunet's lips.

"Yugi…oh, Yugi." Seto cupped Yugi's face in his hands and kissed him desperately.

~*~*~*~*~

Joey whimpered as he turned over in the bed. There was blood on the sheets…and it wasn't from the cuts Keith had inflicted earlier. Not that Keith didn't inflict this wound, too.

He was gone for now. Something Joey was very thankful for. Keith was rough, that had been plain from the start, but nothing like he had been this last time. And he could have sworn he heard Keith call him a whore.

[It was my imagination. Keith wouldn't say that. He cares about me. I know he does! He didn't mean to hurt me. He just got a little carried away, that's all. That happens sometimes.]

Joey grasped one hand in the other to twist his ring…a habit he had when he was upset. Something inside him snapped when he realized it wasn't there. He burrowed down into the blood-stained bed clothes and began to sob.

[I want to go home.]

~*~*~*~*~

Tristan reigned in his horse when they reached a large outcrop along the beach. He threw his leg over the mare's neck and dropped to the ground.

He sat on a low boulder and stared out at the sea. Pulling Joey's ring from his shirt again, he began to rub it absently.

/At least I don't have any memories of him here. I never did get around to bringing Joey up like I planned. That's where I went wrong. I never had the time. I never MADE the time. It's my own fault I lost him./

Tristan looked up as he felt a tug on the collar of his shirt. Cricket was trying to get his attention. He reached up and rubbed her soft muzzle, smiling a little when she lipped his fingers.

"Sorry if you're bored, girl, but I need to think."

The horse blew through her nose and butted Tristan with her head gently, settling down to picking at his shirt.

/I wonder how Seto's making out with Yugi. I wish I could explain it better…even to myself. He's more than my best friend. I don't think I could survive without him. It's like…like he's the other half of me. That's it!/ Tristan sat up straight, pushing Cricket's face away from his neck. /It's like Yami and Yugi, or Ryou and Bakura. It's like we're soul mates…but without being "in love" with each other. Damn! Took me almost seven years to figure that out. I wonder if he has?/

"Cricket! Stop it!" Tristan pushed the horse away again and wiped his ear. "Gross…horse spit."

Tristan looked over his shoulder to where the mare was backing away and snorting. She tossed her head, neighing anxiously.

"What's wrong, girl?" Tristan suddenly became aware that his boots were wet. "Oh shit!"

The tide was coming in. Joey's ring dropped from his fingers as he jumped to his feet, grabbing the reins from where they trailed on the ground and throwing himself into the saddle.

He barely had a chance to set his feet into the stirrups before Cricket immediately jumped into a gallop, spraying water, as they raced the encroaching tide.

~*~*~*~*~

Yugi kissed Seto back with equal fervor, tangling his hands into his hair. He moaned as he felt Seto's hands undoing the buttons on his short sleeved shirt.

Seto slipped the last button free and slid his hands up the other's smooth chest, pushing the garment off his shoulders. He left Yugi's lips to scorch a hot trial along the side of his face to his ear.

"Baby…I love you." Seto whispered before sucking lightly on the lobe.

"Mmmm…Seto…Seto…" Yugi squirmed, tightening his grip in the brown locks. "I love you…I…I want you."

Seto pulled back, untangling Yugi's hands and pressing them against his chest. "Then take me."

Yugi's fingers fumbled at the buttons, hands shaking as he whimpered in frustration. Finally, losing patience, he growled, ripping open Seto's shirt and attacking his chest, biting down hard on a nipple.

Seto hissed, leaning into Yugi. Then, he moaned as the other began nipping and licking a trail down his chest, trying to push him back.

"Not so fast, love." Seto pushed Yugi back into his chair.

Yugi bared his teeth, snarling up at the brunet. Seto just laughed at him, used to it. His hands went to the button on Yugi's jeans and he quickly undid them, pulling off Yugi's house shoes and then grabbing the cuffs of the pants. With one hard tug, he pulled them off, causing Yugi to grab the arms of the chair and lift his hips to keep from being yanked into Seto's lap.

Seto ran his hands from Yugi's ankles to his shoulders, before lowering his head to take his husband's arousal into his mouth.

Yugi screamed, arching his back and digging his fingers into the chair. "YES!! Seto…YES!"

Seto took him into his throat, swallowing around him. He pulled back, teasing the head with his tongue before taking in just the tip and sucking hard. Usually this was enough to have Yugi screaming with release, but not this time.

"No." Yugi grabbed a handful of Seto's hair and yanked him up. "Take your clothes off…now."

Sapphire locked with lust filled amethyst and Seto shivered with anticipation. He loved it when Yugi was demanding and forceful. Which was most of the time. Only this time, he wasn't going to fight him for dominance like he always did.

He stood, holding Yugi's eyes and kicked off his own house shoes, letting his ruined shirt slip from his body. Yugi's eyes narrowed in appreciation as his husband's muscled chest was reveled. He licked his lips as Seto slowly removed his pants, leaving himself spectacularly nude.

Yugi got up from his chair, stalking towards the taller man. An evil little smirk played on his lips.

//Hmmm…what to do?//

His eyes lit on the low, wide shelf running along the edge of the console. His grin widened as he placed a hand on Seto's chest and pushed him down on to it.

//Perfect. Just the perfect height.//

Seto felt a serious spike of arousal at the gleam in Yugi's eyes. {I'm in trouble.}

"Lay back." Yugi whispered.

Seto did as he was told, ignoring the various buttons and switches digging into his back, and wrapped his legs around Yugi's waist. He moaned loudly as Yugi's hand wrapped around his erection.

"Do you want it, Seto?"

"Yes…gods, yes, baby…" A cry was torn from his throat as Yugi thrust savagely into him.

Not waiting for the brunet to adjust to the intrusion, Yugi began to pound into him, watching through half lidded eyes as Seto writhed and moaned beneath him. He began to stroke Seto's arousal in time with his thrusts, earning a strangled groan from the other.

"Harder…Yugi…harder…"

Yugi stopped his movements, smirking at Seto's growl. "Beg."

"You little beast!"

"You love it and you know it." Yugi thrust once, hard.

Seto groaned as Yugi struck his prostate dead on. {Granted, but still…}

"Come on, love." Yugi thrust again. "Beg for me."

This time, Seto screamed, arching his back as the pleasure tore through him. "Damn it! YUGI! PLEASE!! Baby…don't do this to me!"

"Seto…" Yugi moaned out his name as he gave in to his husband's pleas.

Seto tightened his grip on Yugi, bringing him deeper as his fingers dug into the unyielding metal of the console. He met every thrust, desperately seeking release.

"Seto… mmm … so hot …love you."

Seto moaned as Yugi started to stroke him again, thrusting as hard as he could.

{Close…so close…} "YUGI!"

Yugi sobbed as he felt Seto climax, muscles clamping down around his throbbing member, driving him over the edge.

It took Yugi a minute to get his bearings again before he was able to withdraw, stumbling back a couple of steps before collapsing on the floor in an exhausted heap. He was vaguely aware of Seto landing next to him with a soft thump before he felt strong arms wrap around him and he was pulled into Seto's lap.

Both of them were breathing raggedly as they just cuddled together on the cold floor. Seto felt a warm trickle down his back and reached over his shoulder, frowning.

"What's wrong, love?" Yugi asked, feeling him move.

Seto brought his hand around, his eyes widening as he saw his fingertips covered in blood. He glanced over his shoulder and saw blood on the console as well.

"You're bleeding!" Yugi clambered out of Seto's lap and moved around behind him.

"It doesn't hurt."

"That's because it's along a scar from the accident. It's not bad." Yugi put his arms around Seto from behind. "I'm sorry, love."

"It's okay. Like I said, it doesn't hurt." Seto took Yugi's hand and pulled him around and back into his lap. "Baby?"

"Mmm?" Yugi snuggled into his chest with a contented sigh.

"Thank you for understanding...and for…for forgiving me."

"It took Yami spelling it out for me to make me understand." Yugi admitted. "But I'd forgive you anything, Seto. I love you. I really, really do."

Seto buried his face in Yugi's hair, smiling. "I love you, baby. Very much."

"Come on." Yugi unwrapped himself from Seto and stood. "Let go grab Yami and have a shower. He'll want to take a look at your back too."

"Sure." Seto climbed to his feet, taking Yugi's hand. "A nice, long, hot shower sounds good."

Yugi smirked. If he had his way, it'd be a lot more than a shower.

~*~*~*~*~

"Why are you still in bed?"

Joey jerked awake at the sound of Keith's voice. "I'm…I'm sorry, Keith. I kinda fell back asleep."

Keith sat down on the edge of the bed and pulled the covers back with a wicked grin. It quickly turned to a frown when he saw the blood on the sheets. Pulling them down further, his frown deepened when he saw more blood on Joey's legs.

"Joe." Keith whispered. "Oh fuck. I'm sorry."

"It's okay. I know you didn't mean to."

"I…I didn't."

Joey pulled himself up, wincing. Keith immediately wrapped his arms around the smaller man to steady him. He helped Joey off the bed and down the hall to the bathroom.

"I'm alright." Joey moved away from Keith. "I just need a shower."

"Do you need any help?"

"No." Joey shook his head. [I just want to be alone.]

Keith gave him a searching look. "Sure thing, Joe. I've got something to help you with the pain. Don't be long."

Joey closed the door behind the other blond and leaned his forehead against it.

[I've never been in so much pain in my life. Has it only been a couple of days? It seems like I've been here forever. Like I've never known anything but this.]

Joey stepped into the shower after turning on the water as hot as he could stand it.

[Why is Seto looking for me? It can't be because Tristan wants me back. If he did, he'd be the one looking. And if he found me…Keith would be in danger. Between Tristan, Seto and Bakura, he wouldn't stand a chance. If they find out he's given me drugs…they'd kill him for sure.]

He absently scrubbed the blood from his body, caught in his confused thoughts.

[I can't let them hurt Keith. I need him. He said he'd take care of me, that he wouldn't ignore me the way Tristan did. But…Tristan didn't really ignore me. It's just that his job took so much out of him. But I was the one who suffered for it. Damn it, Tristan! You and that fucking job! Why couldn't you have seen what it was doing to us?]

Joey ran his hand over his face, fighting back the tears. This was getting him nowhere. It had to stop.

He quickly finished his shower, feeling much better, and exited the bathroom to throw on some pants and see what Keith was up too.

He found him in the living room. Taking in what Keith had been doing, Joey knew he had reached the point of no return.

"Thought you might enjoy this." Keith commented with a smirk, holding up the needle.

~*~*~*~*~

/Almost there./

The water was up to Cricket's knees, but it hadn't slowed her down. They were a few feet from the safety of the incline when the mare jumped, causing Tristan to grab the horn of the saddle to stay seated.

As soon as they landed on dry ground, Tristan slipped from the horse's back, taking her by the bridle and leading her to level ground.

Tristan wrapped his arms around the animal's neck, leaning against her chest, breathing hard. "That was too close."

The mare nickered as if in agreement, dropping her head over Tristan's shoulder, sides heaving.

"Tristan!"

Tristan turned on shaky legs to see Shiner pounding towards him, bareback on his bay Quarter horse.

"Holy shit, man! Where were you?!" Shiner jumped from his horse, running towards him.

"The tide caught us." Tristan turned and began running his hands over Cricket's legs, checking for injuries.

"How the hell did you manage that?! You were gone for three hours!"

Tristan froze, bent over checking one of the mare's hind shoes. /What?! What's going on?! I couldn't have been gone that long!/

"Tristan?" Shiner noticed the chain hanging from around the brunet's neck. There was a ring on it. A man's ring. "Is everything okay?"

Tristan straightened, pulling out a half believable smile from somewhere. "Everything's fine, bud. She's got a loose shoe."

The Mexican raised a thin eyebrow. "We'll have to walk back."

Tristan took Cricket's bridle again and began to walk, noticing that Shiner's saddle less, bridle less horse just followed along behind. A comfortable silence settled over them as they continued to the stable.

"I'll take care of her." Shiner grabbed the mare's reins as they arrived at their destination. "Go on. Sun's going down."

"Thanks, Shiner." Tristan stuffed his hands in his pockets and headed back to the house, thinking it'd be nice to get in to some dry clothes.

/I've got to get a grip. I'll be useless to Seto like this./ Tristan made his way to the master suite, ignoring the staff who greeted him. /I still have to track down that bitch of a reporter. I'll meet with Bakura as soon as I get back./

Gaining his room, Tristan began to strip off his wet clothes, deciding to forego supper in favor of an early night.

/Maybe a good night's sleep will help me get my mind back on track./

He pulled on some sleep pants on and crawled into the huge bed. Reaching for the chain around his neck, he was about to take it off when the piece of amber in the ring caught the light.

Tristan lay in the bed and rubbed his thumb over the stone, staring at the ceiling, lost in thoughts of Joey. Hours passed before it slipped form between his fingers and he fell into an exhausted sleep.
