Tris: *hugs DD* I didn't expect to see you up and around so soon.

DD: I'm not. It's called stealing the husband's laptop.

YD: Yeah, we wrote most of this from bed.

Seto: How are you feeling?

DD: About as good as Joey is in this chapter.

Joey: *twitch* I'm *twitch* fine *twitch*

YD: I hear ya, Blondie.

~*~*~*~*~

"Otogi! I'm glad you're here!" Gwen ran up to the raven haired man.

Otogi was surprised. It wasn't like Gwen to loose her composure, and she looked close to panic.

"Well, I wasn't planning on coming back for a couple of days, but…what's wrong?"

"It's Joey. He was in a session with Jack and he started having convulsions. We can't get a hold of Tristan." She took Otogi's arm and led him toward the stairs. "I was just going to call the Kaibas."

"Go call them. Tristan may be with Seto." Otogi raced up the stairs as Gwen left to make the phone call.

He threw open Joey's door, his heart clenching painfully at the sight that greeted him.

Joey was lying on the bed twitching, his hair and clothes sticking to his sweat covered skin. Will was sitting on the chair next to the bed, holding Joey's hand as the blond whimpered.

Otogi crossed to the bed and leaned down, rubbing Joey's leg. "Joey? It's me…Otogi."

Joey lifted his head. "Otogi…it hurts."

"I know." Otogi looked at Will. "Go help Gwen track down Tristan. I'll stay with him."

"You sure?" The big man asked.

"Yeah. It's okay."

Will stood and eased his hand from Joey's white knuckled grip. "Hang in there, Joey. We'll get Tristan here as soon as we can."

Joey just nodded and curled tighter, his muscles locking in an effort to stop the shaking.

Otogi crawled up onto the bed behind Joey and, propping himself against the headboard, reached out and pulled the blond toward him.

Joey's whimpering turned to sobs as he lay on his side between Otogi's outstretched legs, pillowing his head on the other man's chest.

"G-Gods…it h-hurts so much."

"I know, Joey." Otogi wrapped his arms around the blond. "I know it does."

"C-Can't s-st-op sh-aking." Joey's teeth began to chatter.

The twitching grew into full blown convulsions and Otogi tightened his grip on Joey, locking his legs around the blond's in an effort to keep him still.

"Gods!" Joey began to cry in earnest. "T-Tristan…p-please…"

"He'll be here soon, Joey. Shh…it's okay."

"D-Don't let g-go of me."

"I won't, Joey." Tears sprang up in the emerald eyes. "I'm here. I won't let you go. I promise."

He held Joey as the convulsions continued, listening to the blond cry, whimpering for Tristan. Tears tracked, unchecked, down his face as he relived the memories of his own time here. There had been no one to hold him like this when he was hurting…physically or emotionally.

The door opened suddenly to reveal Tristan, worry etched on his face.

The brunet paused for a split second, taking in the situation. Joey…whimpering and convulsing…Otogi…holding him and crying.

Tristan sat down on the bed, but instead of taking Joey from Otogi, he put his arms around both of them, pulling them against him and holding them tightly.

"T-Tris…" Joey sobbed, one hand coming up to clutch at Tristan's shirt while the other tangled in the loose, dark locks falling over Otogi's shoulder.

"I'm here, baby. I'm sorry." Tristan began to gently rock the two men in his arms. "I was in the barn helping Shiner. Sultan stepped on my phone. I came right away."

"Don't l-leave me."

"I won't, love. It's okay."

Otogi was struggling to control his tears when he felt a hand on his face, wiping them away. He looked up, meeting concerned hazel eyes.

"Are you okay?" Tristan asked.

Otogi nodded, unable to find his voice beneath the shock of Tristan's tender gesture.

"Thank you for being here. I though you weren't coming back until next week though."

Otogi shrugged. "Grandfather called me this morning. He said Joey was going to need me today."

Tristan was about to comment when Gwen came through the door, a small paper cup in her hand.

"I brought something to calm him down." Seeing the look on Tristan's face, she was quick to add to her statement. "Master Kiotou left it for him in case this happened."

Tristan held out his hand, taking the cup from her and inspected the contents. Recognizing them as the sedatives the old herbalist had been giving Joey; he softly stroked his lover's sweat soaked hair to get his attention.

"Here, baby. This will help." He held the cup to Joey's lips, tipping the pills into his mouth.

Gwen stayed with them, watching as Joey's convulsions turned to tremors, slowly becoming the odd twitch as he fell asleep.

"Thank you, Gwen." Tristan said quietly as Joey's body fell limp against Otogi.

"Call me if you need me, Tristan." She reached out and brushed Joey's hair off his face before turning and leaving the room.

"Otogi?" Tristan's hand came up and he tucked Otogi's hair behind his ear so he could see his face better. "Why were you crying?"

"I…seeing Joey hurting like that…" His voice dropped to a whisper. "It reminded me of when I was here."

"Seto told me." Tristan tightened his grip on the two men. "I wish we had known you then. Then you wouldn't have had to go through it alone."

"I'm just glad Joey doesn't have to." Otogi looked down at the blond in his arms. "He's so lucky to have you all."

"I just wish I could do more."

"There's not much else you can do." Otogi replied, turning his head to look at Tristan.

"I don't understand. He was fine yesterday. He hasn't had convulsions like this since we brought him here."

"This is the way it happens." Otogi's eyes were clouded. "You can be great for a while, then it hits you all at once. It can last a whole day or more."

Tristan saw the pain in the emerald eyes. His heart went out to Otogi and, without even really thinking about it, he leaned down and kissed his cheek.

Otogi shivered, his eyes widening.

"Otogi…I'm so sorry you had to go through that all by yourself. No one should have to do this alone."

"Well…I…that's one of the reasons I'm here." Otogi shivered again, for a different reason this time. "I know what he's going through, Tristan."

"I know you do. And I can't tell you how grateful I am that you're willing to be here for him."

"It's the least I can do."

There was something in Otogi's eyes when he said that that Tristan didn't really understand. He looked…lonely.

Joey twitched in his sleep, moaning, and Tristan combed his fingers through the sweat-damp locks, calming him. He cuddled in closer to Otogi, his hand still tangled in the long, black hair.

"I hope you don't have to go anywhere soon." Tristan smiled.

Otogi grinned back at him. "Nah. I can stay as long as he needs me."

"Thank you, Otogi…really." Tristan said sincerely. "If there's ever anything I can do for you…anything you need…I want you to ask."

/There's that look again. What's he thinking?/

"It's no big deal, Tristan. Really."

"It is to me, Otogi." Tristan began, but was interrupted by the door opening again.

Otogi felt his face flush, as if he had done something wrong, finding himself pinned by a pair of icy blue eyes.

"Seto." Tristan looked relieved to see him.

"I tried to call you. You weren't answering your cell."

"That's because I had to sweep the pieces up off the barn floor. Yugi's horse stepped on it."

Seto nodded in acknowledgement and turned his attention to Otogi. "What are you doing here?"

"Grandfather told me to come."

Seto shuddered slightly, holding up his hand. "Stop right there. I don't want to know."

Otogi grinned. "You know, he really gets a kick out of yanking your chain."

"I'm sure." Seto replied dryly. "Could you stay with Joey for a bit? I need to talk to Tristan."

"Sure. I don't think I could move now if I had to." Otogi indicated Joey's hand, still wrapped in his hair.

Tristan eased off the bed, making sure Otogi was comfortable and kissing Joey before following Seto out of the room.

Joey whimpered, clutching at Otogi, as if he could sense, even in his sleep, that Tristan had left.

"Shh, Joey." Otogi rocked him. "He'll be right back."

Joey's grip in his hair tightened and Otogi rested his cheek against the top of Joey's head.

"He loves you so much." Otogi whispered. "You're so lucky. I'd give anything to have what you have, Joey. I just hope you realize how lucky you are to have him."

~*~*~*~*~

"What's up, pal?" Tristan asked as he closed the parlor door.

"Gwen called me saying she couldn't reach you."

"Like I said, Sultan stepped on my phone. I was helping Shiner with Cricket. The big guy doesn't like the fact she's in heat. He busted out of his stall trying to get to her."

"How'd that go?" Seto asked.

Tristan shrugged. "Hopefully she'll catch. I was thinking about raising the foal for Justin."

Seto shook his head. "You guys and your horses."

Tristan grinned. "Well, you could have come out and helped Shiner inseminate her."

Seto looked like he was about to throw up, much to Tristan's amusement. "Not likely."

Seto took his phone out of his pocket and handed it to Tristan before drawing him down to sit on the couch. "Take mine. I'll pick you up a spare when I go back to the city."

"Thanks." Tristan dropped it on the side table and leaned into Seto with a sigh.

"You're still not sleeping, are you?" Seto put his arms around the shorter man.

"Not really. You know what a fan I am of sleeping alone."

"Tell you what." Seto shifted into a more comfortable position. "I'm going to head back and clear up a few things and then I'll come back and stay with you tonight."

"You don't have to do that, Seto."

"I know, but I want to." Seto dropped a kiss on the top of Tristan's head. "Besides, I miss you."

"Yeah, we haven't had a lot of time together lately." Tristan sighed, fighting not to fall asleep, he was so comfortable. "When's Justin coming home?"

"This weekend." Seto smiled. "Yami, Yugi and Mokuba are driving the decorators nuts."

Tristan snickered. "Can you do me a favor, pal? Could you run over to the house and pick up some sheet music for Joey? There's a file folder on top of the piano."

"Sure. I'll pick up your mail for you too."

"Thanks."

"Oh, by the way. There's something I want you to see."

"What's that?" Tristan lifted his head to see Seto pull a photograph from his shirt pocket.

"Take a look." Seto handed it to him.

Tristan glanced at the picture briefly and went to hand it back to Seto. "She's cute. She from the orphanage?"

"Tristan…LOOK at her."

Tristan looked more carefully at the photo.

A head full of dark brown hair framed an angular face and hazel eyes sparkled from a sweetly smiling visage.

The shape of her eyes, the high cheekbones and slightly pointed chin….

/Oh, holy shit!/

Seeing the shock written all over his friend's face, Seto's eyes grew serious. "Is there something you want to tell me, Tris?"

"Huh?" Tristan shook himself out of his daze.

"She's not yours, is she?"

"What?! Seto! This kid's all of, what? Two?"

"Three."

"If she was mine, that would mean I cheated on Joey. And with a woman at that!" Tristan pulled away angrily.

"Come on." Seto grabbed him, yanking him back against him. "Don't be like that."

"I can't believe you'd even THINK that!"

"I'm only asking, Tris. I mean, look at her. Cut her hair and she's mini you."

Tristan looked at the picture again, seeing Seto's point. "She's not. What's her name?"

"Well, I hacked into her file last night. Her name's what actually made me think she might be yours. Alexis Taylor Davis."

"Her middle name's Taylor? I can see why that'd make you suspicious." Tristan leaned his head against Seto's shoulder, lifting the photo to look at it again. "She sure is cute though."

"She's Justin's best friend. He calls her Lexi. He's not happy about leaving her. She has some problems that set her apart from the other kids. She and Justin help each other out."

"What kind of problems?" Tristan asked, curious.

He couldn't take his eyes off the child's sweet face, and seeing it, Seto smiled.

"Her file's a little vague, but she's been at the orphanage since she was born. Her mother was an addict. There's no mention of who the father is." Seto took the photo from Tristan, looking at it. "She's a little slow developmentally, and she has some problems speaking. When I met her the other day I noticed that her right hand is deformed. The file said her last two fingers are fused together at the bone and her middle finger is joined to them by skin."

"Poor kid."

"Yeah. I'm a little concerned about what'll happen to her when Justin comes home. He's the only one of the kids who understands her."

"Are you trying to tell me something, pal?"

Seto met Tristan's eyes. "Well, you guys were talking about it, and she does look so much like you…"

Tristan took the picture back. "This isn't really the time to be thinking about this."

"I know, but…no one wants her, Tristan. The same way no one wanted Justin. Because they're different. She'll be all alone once Justin's gone."

Tristan saw the tears spring up into the sapphire eyes of his best friend, knowing that he was thinking about his own lonely childhood.

He reached up and stroked Seto's cheek. "It's okay, pal."

"Just tell me you'll think about it?" Seto's tone was pleading. "We talked about it, but with Justin's problems…it may be all we can handle."

"Maybe I could go meet her." Tristan mused, eyes back on the picture. "But do you think the orphanage would even consider me and Joey? I mean, if her mother was an addict…"

"If you guys decide to adopt her, then I'll see to it that it happens." Seto said. "There's things going on there that someone's going to have to answer for. The donations Mokuba's been overseeing aren't being used properly. I've contacted an independent auditor and I'm having their books looked at."

"What did you expect, Seto? It's a public orphanage."

"If I find what I think I'm going to find, it won't be for much longer." Seto's eyes narrowed.

Tristan raised an eyebrow, but didn't comment.

"Anyway," Seto mentally shook himself. "I'm going to head out."

Tristan stood and extended his hand to Seto, pulling him up.

"I'll be back as soon as I can." Seto put his arms around Tristan, feeling the shorter brunet's exhaustion. "I'll meet you back here."

"Okay." Tristan leaned up and kissed Seto. "I'll be with Joey."

He waited until Seto left, shutting the door behind him, before looking at the picture in his hand again.

/Funny how things work out. I wonder what Joey'll say about this. I'll wait until Otogi leaves before talking to him about it./

Tristan went back upstairs to find Joey still out cold and Otogi asleep as well with his head resting on the top of Joey's.

Tristan smiled and picked up a blanket from the foot of the bed, spreading it over the two men before settling himself down in the chair to watch them.

Soon enough, he was asleep too, unaware of a pair of emerald eyes watching him.

~*~*~*~*~

Instinct made Seto pull over when he saw the unfamiliar car parked in front of Tristan's house.

He watched as a tall man with brown hair got out of the vehicle and approached the front door. He saw him take something from his coat pocket and slip it through the mail slot.

Seto's eyes narrowed as the man got back into his car and drove away. He was too far away to see him clearly, but there was something familiar about him.

He shrugged it off as he pulled into the driveway, getting out of his car and letting himself into the house.

He bent and gathered up the mail littering the floor inside the door and took it with him to the living room. He grabbed the folder Tristan wanted from the top of the piano and laid it down on the bench before sitting to sort through the mail to see if there was anything that would require Tristan's immediate attention.

Seto frowned as he came across a plain white envelope with a single word handwritten on the front in black ink.

Joe.

Without a second's hesitation, Seto tore it open and pulled out a piece of paper containing a short note. His face flushed with anger as he read it.

Joe,

Sorry about the other day.

I know you must really be hurting by now.

If you can make it over to the bar, I'll fix you up.

It's going to cost you though.

Looks like the Bandit's gone for good, so maybe we can come to a more permanent arrangement.

Marty

"Son of a bitch!" Seto growled. "That's why he looked familiar."

Seto stuffed the note into his pants pocket and picked up the folder containing Joey's music.

He made his way to his car, reaching for his cell phone with the thoughts of calling Tristan. Then he remembered Tristan had his phone.

{Fine. I'd rather handle this myself anyway.}

He briefly thought of tracking Bakura down, but decided against it.

He placed the file folder on the passenger seat and stared at it for a minute.

{No one's ever going to use you like that again, Joey. I promise.}

Ice entered the sapphire eyes as Seto turned his car downtown.

~*~*~*~*~

Joey moaned in pain as he woke, reaching out to fist his hand back into Otogi's hair, coming up with a handful of shirt instead.

"Otogi?"

"He had to leave, baby."

Joey forced his eyes open to find himself cradled in Tristan's arms. "Tris…"

"Shh…don't move too much." Tristan cautioned as Joey tried to sit up. "I would imagine you're pretty sore."

"Yeah, I am." Joey shifted, wincing, so he could move closer. "When did Otogi leave?"

"About an hour ago." Tristan grinned. "It took us ten minutes to get your hand untangled from his hair. I thought we were going to have to end up cutting it."

Joey snickered. "Heaven forbid. I don't think he's cut it since high school."

"Probably not."

Joey sighed and snuggled into the warmth of Tristan's body. The pain was nothing compared to how good it felt having Tristan's arms around him.

"I'm glad you woke up." Tristan said. "Gwen's going to come kick me out soon. It's getting late."

Detecting a note of worry in his lover's voice, Joey lifted his head to look at him. "What's wrong?"

"Seto's supposed to be here by now." Tristan's brow furrowed. "He's staying with me tonight."

"I'm sure he just got tied up. You know how he is."

"Yeah, I suppose so."

"Tris? Can I ask you a question?"

"Anything, baby." Tristan leaned down and kissed Joey on the forehead.

"While I was gone…was…was there anyone else?"

Tristan shook his head, puzzled. "Anyone else?"

"Otogi told me what happened when you went to his place for dinner."

"Nothing happened, Joey. Not really."

"I know." Joey rubbed his cheek against Tristan's chest. "I know I don't have a right to ask, but…"

"Of course you do." Tristan interrupted.

Joey looked into his love's hazel eyes, and seeing them full of sincerity, decided to plow ahead. "As far as I can remember, I was only with Keith. He…he wouldn't let anyone else…take me…I…a couple of guys…well…they offered him a lot of money to…to sleep with me, but…he always said no."

"Oh, baby." Tristan tipped Joey's face up and kissed him softly. "I'm so sorry."

"I just…" Joey's faced flushed. "I was just wondering if you'd been with anyone."

Tristan looked Joey straight in the eye, not wanting to hide anything, wanting him to understand. "Seto."

To Tristan's surprise, Joey smiled. "I'm glad."

"What?!"

"I'm glad." Joey reached up and stroked Tristan's face. "I knew you'd need him…like you used to. I'm happy he was there for you."

"Joey…" Tristan couldn't hide his shock. Joey had never understood before.

"Yugi and I talked about it. He never told me that you did. I guess he figured I should hear it from you. But he did explain to me what's been happening to you guys. And that you've become more…intimate with each other since I've been gone."

"Baby, I love you…" Tristan began.

"I know you do." Joey smiled, complete understanding in his eyes. "And I know you love him too. It's just a different kind of love. You need each other, and I'm okay with that."

"Joey." Tristan's voice was choked with emotion. "Thank you."

Joey moved up, ignoring the pain, and drew Tristan into a deep kiss.

"I love you, Tristan." He said when it ended.

"I love you too. With all my heart, Joey."

They held each other close, their love for each other wrapping around them, warm and healing, both knowing intuitively that things would get better from here.

~*~*~*~*~

Seto's eyes narrowed against the smoke as he entered the bar.

{Don't these people have jobs?}

Several men stood at the sight of the obviously out of place CEO.

A man a few inches shorter than him stepped into his path, blocking further admittance. "What do you want?"

Seto looked down at him, recognizing him from the fight. "I'm looking for Marty."

"What do you want with Marty, rich boy?"

"I have business with him."

"Not a chance."

Seto cut a glance at a table full of men, seeing the man Bakura had attacked. There was a bandage on his neck.

"You know," Seto said blandly. "Your friend is lucky to be alive. It's not very often Bakura's victims live."

The man in front of him tensed. "Leave."

Seto shrugged nonchalantly. "Fine by me. I really should let Bakura know his prey survived. I can always come back with him later."

The color drained from every face in the room.

The man in front of Seto quickly stepped aside and pointed to a closed door. "He's in his office."

"Very wise." Seto smirked, brushing past him.

He opened the door without knocking, going in and closing it behind him, leaning on it and crossing his arms over his chest.

"What do you want?" Marty stood up from his desk. "Come to write me a check for all the damage you and your friends caused to my place?"

"Joey won't be getting your note." Seto stated flatly. "And I would suggest you stay away from him from now on."

Marty's smirk was full of a bravado he didn't really feel. This guy took down four men without even breaking a sweat…never mind what that white haired freak did to Butch.

"I would think Joe would be the one making that decision, not you." Marty's smile turned cruel. "Besides, he gives great head. You should try him out sometime."

Marty didn't even see the other man move before he found himself thrown against the wall, a long fingered hand closing over his throat, cutting off his air.

"You know," Seto said in a conversational tone. "If you strike a person in the nose just the right way, it sends bone fragments into the brain and kills them instantly."

Seto let go and took a step back. He brought the heel of his hand up under Marty's nose with as much force as he could muster, feeling the cartilage crumble with a sickening crunch.

Seto took another step back as the man fell at his feet, struggling to breathe through a broken nose and bruised throat.

"Luckily for you I don't feel like expending the energy today." Seto placed his foot on the other man's hand as he turned, grinding all his weight on the trapped fingers, smiling coldly as he felt them break. "Stay away from Joey…or next time I WILL kill you."

He threw open the door, not bothering to close it behind him, and strode back through the bar, stopping to grin at Butch.

"I'll let Bakura know you're recovering." Seto sneered at the big man. "I'm sure he'll want to stop by and see how you're doing."

A feather could have been heard hitting the floor; the silence was so absolute, as Seto left, feeling extremely satisfied with the afternoon's work.

~*~*~*~*~

Seto came out onto the balcony and took Tristan's cigarette from him, putting it out.

"Come to bed, Tris." Seto held out his hand. "It's late."

Tristan grabbed Seto's hand and let the other brunet haul him up out of his chair. Once they got back inside, Tristan headed to the bathroom to brush his teeth and, coming out a few minutes later, found Seto already changed and in bed, lying in his side, his head propped up on his hand, watching him.

Tristan smiled at him, going to the dresser and pulling out a pair of shorts, quickly changing.

Seto pulled the covers back on the bed as Tristan climbed in with him and shut off the light.

"Seto?" Tristan looked at his friend in the dim light. "Can I hold you?"

Seto frowned, feeling the sadness rolling off of Tristan in almost visible waves. He immediately moved into Tristan's arms, laying his head on the other's chest.

"Everything okay, buddy?"

"Yeah," Tristan sighed. "I just really need to hold someone tonight."

Seto threw an arm over Tristan's chest, lifting his head to look at him. "He'll be home before you know it, Tris."

"I know. I just…it's hard." Tristan began playing with Seto's hair. "I guess I'm just lonely."

"It's okay. I'm here for you." Seto lowered his head to gently kiss Tristan's shoulder. "Do you want to make love?"

"No." Tristan shook his head. "I'm just glad you're here. I don't think I could stand another night alone."

"I wish I could spend more time with you, but with Justin coming home in a couple of days…"

"Don't worry about it, pal."

"I was thinking," Seto moved to get more comfortable, laying his head back on Tristan's chest. "You should come back to the city with me tomorrow. We really need to go see Master Kiotou."

"I was planning on it anyway. I have to go over to the house and get some clean clothes."

"Well, my schedule is clear. Why don't we go see Joey in the morning and then we can head back and see Master Kiotou? I'm going over to the orphanage in the afternoon to see Justin. You should come with me and meet Lexi."

"I don't know." Tristan sounded hesitant. "I haven't talked to Joey about her yet. There wasn't any time."

"So, talk to him in the morning."

"Maybe I should."

"I know you guys have been wanting this, Tris." Seto looked up at him again.

"It's just…Joey's not…" Tristan trailed off.

"I know." Seto moved to prop himself up on his arm so he could look at Tristan again. "But things are going to get better. You know that, right?"

"Yeah. I do." Tristan was silent for a few minutes. "Okay. I'll talk to Joey in the morning. Will you be with me?"

"If you want me to." Seto smiled.

"Thanks, Seto." Tristan reached out, cupping Seto's face in his hand and drawing him close.

Their lips met softly and Tristan immediately parted his, allowing Seto to caress his mouth with his tongue.

Tristan pulled Seto closer, wrapping his arms tightly around him as the kiss ended. He sighed as Seto tucked his head under Tristan's chin, burying his face in his neck.

"Go to sleep, Tris."

"Goodnight, pal." Tristan kissed the top of Seto's head. "Love you."

Seto yawned. "Love you too."

Tristan smiled as Seto began to snore softly. /Sure wish I could fall asleep like that./

Tristan listened to the sound of the waves crashing against the shoreline, heard through the open balcony door. The soft rhythm lulled him, like the steady beating of Seto's heart, barely audible to him.

He was asleep in seconds.

~*~*~*~*~

DD: I'm going back to bed.

YD: Yeah, we need to cuddle the wife. The chibi's Buzz Lightyear doll starting talking in the middle of the night and scared the shit out of her!

Tris: *snickers* Wimp!

DD: *smacks Tris* Shut it, you! She's taking real good care of us!

Tris: *looks contrite* Sorry.

YD: Oh! Next chappie we get to meet Lexi!

DD: I can't wait!!

YD: Not sure when we'll get it out. We're feeling a bit better, but still kinda shitty.

Seto: Review please…we're dying to meet Lexi too!
