Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Tainted Angel ❯ Chapter 1
A/N: See? I will be better with updating for this fic! ^^ Okies, I don't own YuGiOh, but I do own Rikoh and this story idea! There are a few ideas in here that were taken from Wish; I don't own them either. Again, there will be blood and there are no such things as yamis/hikaris in this fic.
/…/ = thoughts
*~*~*~*~*~* = scene change
Since I'm all out of things to say, I'll stop now so you can read.
Tainted Angel
"What would you like me to make you for breakfast?" I asked Rikoh, who was currently sitting at the kitchen table, finding a rather large amount of enjoyment from the pattern on it.
"Hm? Oh, I'll be fine with a glass of milk."
"Are you sure? That's not nearly suitable for a breakfast."
"O-Oh, I'm sure. That's what I normally have for breakfast. And plus, I wouldn't want to be a burden after you took me in yesterday."
/There's definitely something she's hiding from me…/
I eyed her suspiciously before poring Rikoh a glass of milk and going about making a breakfast for myself.

"Would you like to go for a walk?" I finally broke the overwhelming silence that loomed above us.
Rikoh nodded and we both got up from our seats in the living room. She seemed to shiver as we stepped outside. The strong breeze whipped at our faces and then died down. As we reached the town park, I nodded my head towards the entrance as to ask if she wanted to enter. Rikoh nodded quickly and we both set off for a good place to relax. We found a bench on the side of the pathway and sat down.
After a while, I noticed something I hadn't the night before.
/Rikoh never sat against the back of her seat for a reason…/
Glistening in the sunlight was the outline of two objects that looked peculiarly like wings. They were folded against her body, pressed in to save space.
"Rikoh… you're not human, are you?" I asked, looking into her eyes.
"No, I'm not. How did you know?" She responded quietly, turning her whole body to face me.
"I-I can see your wings… Or at least that's what they look like."
"I thought humans were unable to see them when they're hidden… I'd show them to you fully, but I can't have anyone else see them; it's against the rules. I can let you see them only because you've done me a favor that is of great importance."
"Could you show them to me at the apartment, or would you like to stay here for a bit longer?"
"We can go back now," Rikoh smiled and stood up.
*~*~*~*~*~*
Both Rikoh and I stepped inside the apartment and closed the door behind us.
"Because of the rules, I'm only allowed to show my wings to a person of high importance to me. You helped me so much last night so you are the first human who will see my wings," Rikoh said as her invisible wings began to glow.
She closed her eyes as the wings made completely of light on her back stretched outwards towards the ceiling. They folded back slightly and faded to take on a material form. Her wings were made of long feathers. All the feathers were pure white, except for at their tips; each feather looked like it was dipped in black ink.
/They're so beautiful. But I thought an angel's wings were supposed to be all white…/
"I know you think I'm an angel, and you're half right. I was a true angel until my pureness was taken away from me. Then Ra punished me by making my wings slightly black and banishing me from Heaven… Before I left, all the other angels could see that I had I was no longer one of them… And they laughed at me. They laughed at me all the way down to Earth," Rikoh explained, not opening her eyes.
"Oh… I'm so sorry… How was your pureness taken from you?" I asked, becoming curious.
"That is something I tell no one. Maybe when the time comes you will learn, but until then, it will remain secret."
"Ok… So you come from Heaven? What is it like there?" I tried to change the subject off of it.
"It's not much different than Earth. There are different cities that sit on clouds. There are no streets since all angels can fly. Since no plants can grow with Heaven's atmosphere, we have floating plazas it stone figures and fountains on them instead of parks. And… that's really all there is to describe."
"That sounds beautiful… What exactly do you do as an angel?"
"Angels in training learn to control the elements. There are spells for each one. We are also assigned a human to watch over when we become more experienced…"
"Did you get to be assigned a human?"
"…Yes…"
"…So who was it?"
"You. Gomen. When I first went to Heaven, I learned quickly even though I was young. You were about 5 years old when I was assigned to look after you. That year was the year your father left you."
"Wait… You know about that? Please… tell me what he did…"
"He took you for a walk in the early spring time and told you to stay in that alleyway. He told you to stay hidden and wait for him to return. Your father then got on a bus to the airport and moved to America. I'm sorry that he left you in such a manner… I was the one who returned you home after I saw him leave."
"Th-That was you?! You mean, the little girl I saw was really you?" I shouted.
"Yes. I remember taking you by the hand and telling you to follow me. I lead you back to the apartment we are in right now and stayed with you the night. You kept on asking me, `Where did father go? He told me to wait for him. Why is he not coming back?' I couldn't tell you then because you were too young to understand."
"I'm remembering it clearly now… Arigatou. It seems I've repaid you for comforting me the night by giving you hospitality."
"Yes, it seems so. But when I was expelled from Heaven last year, I could no longer look after you. My powers are all gone, all except for healing. So you… You no longer have a guardian angel…"
I looked at Rikoh with shock. She returned my glance with one of sorrow.
/So they're not going to assign me a new angel? Shows how much Ra pities the weak and unfortunate…/
"Would you like to have dinner now?" I said after a long period of complete silence.
"Oh, I'm quite full, thank you."
"Full? When did you eat?" I was completely confused.
"Oh, I forgot! Angels are much simpler than humans. Humans need to fill many nutrients to stay healthy. Angels only need sunlight. On our walk I had what you'd call a `meal'. Angels are also forbidden to take the life of anything. That is why I am only allowed to have milk."
/Oh, that explains a lot… So how is it that she can stand watching me eat and cook?/
"Do you have trouble watching me eat or cook?" I asked, just to be sure.
"Well, it does make me a bit squeamish…" Rikoh replied, turning pale at just the thought of it.
"Then I won't force you to have meals with me. If you'd like to avoid it, I tend to eat early around 6:00 am and then later near 5:30."
"Are you saying you wish me to stay longer? Haven't I already taken enough of your kind hospitality?"
"You have nowhere to go. I'd never let you just sleep on the streets. You were my guardian at one point, now it's my turn to be yours."
"D-Domo arigatou," Rikoh stuttered and bowed.
"It's no problem. I'll go eat dinner now. Afterwards, we could play a game if you like."
"I don't know any human games, this should be fun!" Rikoh shouted happily, flying over to the couch to wait.

"You're really good at balance! This is the fifth Jenga game in a row that you've won!" I shouted as the tower collapsed from the loss of the block I was holding.
"It's pretty fun, but I'm getting kind of tired. Would you like me to sleep on the couch tonight?" Rikoh asked.
"It's alright. I'm fine with sleeping there."
"Oh, I insist! You should get your own bed!" Rikoh was pushing me towards my room.
"Ok, ok! I'll sleep in my room! But if you get uncomfortable, don't hesitate to tell me."
"I won't!"
"Oh, tomorrow I'll take you shopping for clothes. If you're going to live here, we'll need to find you a few outfits," I said as I began to close the door.
"Arigatou, Ryou-san!" Rikoh said as she jumped off towards the living room.

(3rd person POV)
The doorbell rang. Yugi Mutou stood outside the second door on the third level of the apartment building.
"Ryou-chan? Are you awake?" Yugi called through the door.
He jiggled the doorknob and found it to be unlocked.
"I guess it wouldn't hurt to check if he's alright," the small boy said aloud to himself.
As he walked in, he saw something move on the couch. Yugi glanced over as the most amazing sight in his life met his eye. There on the couch lay the most beautiful creature he'd even seen.
