Chapter 20
The Revelations
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
By the time they reached the empty quarters that they were to live in, Ryou had slipped into a deep hibernation.
"Raphael did it." Yugi said, as Bakura lay Ryou down on the bed in the guest room that he had chosen to share with Ryou. Marik was across the hall in the master bedroom with Malik, and Yami and Yugi took the larger of the two guest bedrooms. Bakura had lovingly bathed Ryou in the bathroom with Malik's help while Pegasus, Seto, Tristan, Otogi, Joey, Marik, Mikado, Ahmose, Yami and Yugi moved all of Yugi, Malik and Ryou's possessions into the house. After cleansing Ryou of the blood and semen left on him by Keith, Bakura once again wrapped Ryou in the emerald cloth of Raphael and tucked him into the bed. The others came in to check on them when they were finished with the moving work, and Bakura had expressed his worry over Ryou's sudden hibernation.
"What did Raphael do?" Bakura asked in regards to Yugi's announcement.
"He put Ryou into hibernation." Yugi clarified.
"Why?"
"I don't know, but Raphael would not have done it if he didn't think it was needed. Ryou looked pretty bad, even after he was healed. I'm going to guess that he put Ryou into hibernation more for the mental injuries. Raphael is Ryou's teacher, so he takes care of Ryou."
"He's his teacher? Like, teacher, teacher?" Bakura gasped.
"Yes. Ryou has very advanced healing powers. Not sure how, only Raphael knows the details, but Ryou meets with him once a week. As I do with Gabriel. He helps me with my energy channeling."
"………. Oh." Bakura muttered. "Why didn't you ever tell us these things?"
"Because it's forbidden to speak of the Angels of Araboth to demons."
"You're speaking of them right now." Yami pointed out.
"They revealed themselves to you." Malik said with a shrug, and looked down at Ryou, curled up in fetal position in Raphael's sash. Bakura sighed and slowly lay down beside Ryou, curling his body around Ryou's and draping his wings over Ryou and himself.
"I think we shoul follow Bakura's example." Ahmose said. "I'm exhausted." The others nodded in agreement.
"First, you demons have to helps us clean up!" Joey snapped, jabbing his thumb over his shoulder at his wings, that were still covered in soot. The demons snickered.
"Alright." Yami said, and they all trooped out of the room. Malik remained sitting on the bed, and looked down at Ryou. He smiled and leaned over, and Bakura watched Malik kiss Ryou's cheek gently, before following the others out.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Bakura slept all day, and all night, and was awakened the next morning by someone shaking his shoulder. He opened his eyes and stared up at Pegasus. Behind him was the tan angel with dark hair, Ryouta.
"Raphael has asked me to check on Ryou." Ryouta said, and Bakura nodded, backing away and lifting his wings from Ryou. Ryouta moved onto his knees on the bed and pulled the bolt of green cloth from Ryou, but replaced it enough to cover the necessities.
"Please come with me." Pegasus said to Bakura. The demon hesitated, glancing at his hibernating lover, but nodded, deciding that of all places, he was in the safest place; except for maybe with his teacher in Araboth. Pegasus went downstairs and led Bakura out the front door, paying no attention to Marik and Yami's heads poking out of the kitchen in curiosity. Bakura blinked when they stepped outside; he wasn't used to the sun first thing when he woke up. Pegasus spread his light gray wings and took to the air. Bakura blinked again, and followed, beating his wings a few times to get airborne. He now know how Ryou had felt, flying through Hell. All the eyes of all the angels seen were on him, some staring in fear, some in hate, some in curiosity.
"So, you have fallen for my nephew." Pegasus said, suddenly, and Bakura looked at him.
"I have." He replied.
"Do demons mate for life?"
"…… sometimes." Bakura said, startled by the question.
"Is that your intention towards Ryou?"
"Huh?" Bakura blurted, stupidly.
"You have mated him."
"Ummm….."
"And the other demon, Marik, has mated you." Pegasus said, and Bakura blinked.
"Ummmm……"
"Angels always mate for life, demon. Now that you have mated him, he will not be with another."
"He has been with Malik." Bakura said, and Pegasus looked at him.
"Of course. Malik is an angel, where you are a demon. But you were his first. An angel mates for life, but when he mated with you, he wasn't sure."
"If angels mate for life, then why did he sleep with Malik?" Bakura asked, and Pegasus frowned.
"I can only take a guess, but maybe because Malik was an angel, where you are a demon. He has always believed that he and Malik would be lifemates, but then you came along and took Malik's place. Perhaps he merely suffered a time of confusion. It is his instinct to mate for life, but it is his instinct to mate with one of his own kind. And if I remember correctly, it took a mating between Ryou and Malik for them to figure out that the first mating was more important than mating one of their own kind to them. You did say that they both chose their counterparts as opposed to each other, despite the fact they had every intention to become lifemates from a very young age to the point where they made the decision to submit themselves to demons."
"Um, may I inquire as to where this is going?" Bakura said.
"Do you consider Ryou your lifemate?" Pegasus said, and Bakura frowned.
"…….. Yes. Yes I do. If he will have me as such." He said, and Pegasus looked at him.
"So… Gabriel was right."
"Excuse me?" Bakura said.
"The council had every intention of ruling against you. Taking you as prisoners of war, never to see your counterparts again. Mikado was going to be tried for treason."
"What happened?"
"The Angels of Araboth are wise and merciful." Pegasus said. "Especially Gabriel. He was able to look at you and see truth. Once he heard the story, he was able to see that you and Ryou had mated, and that you had every intention of mating for life. He also saw that the intentions of you four demons were true; you came here because you have been cast out of your own home, and you came seeking sanctuary with your counterparts, not wanting to be separated from them. Gabriel convinced us to trust you. But we can only trust you so far, which is why I have been placed in charge of keeping an eyes on the four of you…. At least I'm not training fledglings anymore." The Arch Angel grumbled.
"Uhhhh…." Bakura said.
"I am merely looking out for the welfare of my nephew. I wanted to know your intentions towards him."
"Why?!" Bakura snapped, suddenly. "Since when do you care?! Ryou himself said that the only relationship between you was teacher and student, and the fact that you have the same blood! You have never cared!"
"I did! I just had more important things to do than worry about my nephew!"
"What is more important than your own family?!"
"My people." Pegasus snarled.
"So your political position is more important than your ORPHANED NEPHEW?!?!?"
"HE DIDN'T NEED ME!!!" Pegasus snapped back. "He had Malik. And as long as he had Malik, he was happy. And if he was happy, I would not interfere." Bakura snorted.
"Bull shit." He said, then turned and headed back for the house. Pegasus snarled, and whirled after him.
"I'm not done with you!!" He shouted.
"WELL, I'M DONE WITH YOU!!!" Bakura shouted back, and sped up. The pair streaked across the skies of Heaven, drawing all eyes towards them. Bakura landed outside the house and burst in, running up the stairs. Pegasus followed and caught up, seizing Bakura's arm.
"I said I'm not done with you." He growled, ignoring Yugi, Yami, Malik and Marik coming to see what was wrong. Bakura's eyes flashed and he snapped out the barbs and stinger on his tail, and bared his fangs. His tail lashed.
"What makes you think I give a shit?" He hissed, dangerously, and grabbed Pegasus' wrist. The ArchAngel gasped when razor sharp claws dug into his arm. Bakura tore his arm from the older man's grasp and shoved him into the wall. Hissing, he advanced on the angel.
"Bakura…" Marik called, gently. "He is Ryou's family."
"He's an ass." Bakura snapped, and Marik moved over to the door and opened it. Seeing the movement out of the corner of his eye, Bakura glanced over. His eyes fell on Ryou, curled up in Raphael's sash in the middle of the king size bed, and he relaxed. He retracted his stinger, barbs and claws. Flashing his fangs warningly at Pegasus, he turned and entered the room, crawling onto the bed and once again curling up around Ryou. He wrapped the angel in his wings and his tail around the angel's waist, and held him close, a deep purring coming from his throat. Marik silently shut the door.
"I wouldn't suggest angering him." Yami said, glaring at Pegasus. "He has a temper."
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Malik slowly opened the door and peered into the darkness. Bakura raised his head from the blankets and his eyes flashed at Malik, a growl escaping his throat.
"Um, Bakura?" Malik called, and took a few steps into the room. Bakura growled again, and flashed his fangs at Malik, eyes glowing a dull red.
"Get out……" He snarled, deep in his chest. Malik's eyes widened.
"Um, are you hungry?" Malik squeaked, holding up a plate with a sandwich on it. Bakura snarled again, lifting himself up into a crouch above the hibernating angel.
"No." He snarled. "Get out." His tail lashed, and Malik slowly backed out and closed the door. Bakura snorted and settled down, curling up around Ryou again and closing his eyes.
"MARIK!!!" Malik wailed as he ran down into the living room where Marik sat with Yami, Yugi, Mikado and Ahmose, and Pegasus, who was simply listening and observing.
"What?" Marik asked. "Was Bakura not hungry?"
"He's acting like a rabid dog!" Malik shrieked, throwing his hands in the air, and therefore throwing the sandwich. Yami reached up and caught it and promptly began eating it. "He almost attacked me!!!"
"Why?" Marik asked with a confused frown.
"I don't know! I just opened the door and he started snarling like a guard dog! I asked him if he was hungry and he told me to get out. I went to give him the sandwich and he freaked. He started growling and looked ready to pounce and suck my blood or something!"
"We're demons, not vampires." Ahmose said, disgusted.
"Tell that to freak with fangs upstairs!!!" Malik gasped. "He's gone crazy!" Marik stood and glared at Pegasus.
"Because someone got him upset and he went into defensive mode." He growled, and turned and headed up the stairs, the others following after a moment. Marik knocked on the door and called out to Bakura. A snarl answered him from behind the door. Marik blinked and opened the door, peering into the shadows. Seeing Bakura's glowing eyes, he flung the door wide open and stepped in.
"Bakura?!" He called, and the demon snarled and bared his fangs, lashing his tail again.
"Get out." Bakura hissed.
"Stay back." Ahmose warned the angels, and followed Yami into the room.
"Bakura, is something wrong?" Yami asked.
"Get out." Bakura snapped again, and once again rose to the balls of his hand and feet, crouching over Ryou and raising his wings into a threatening position, lashing his tail. The three other demons froze in their tracks.
"Go." Marik muttered over his shoulder. "Get out. Now." Bakura hissed and the three demons slowly retreated, not turning their backs to the fourth. "We're going Bakura." Marik said softly, trying to keep his old friend from attacking. "No one is going to come near you, or Ryou. I promise. We'll leave you, and we won't come back. If you get hungry, we'll leave some food outside the door, okay? No reason to get upset. Just calm down. No one will hurt Ryou, or you. Just stay calm and go to sleep. No one will harm you. You are safe. Ryou is safe. Don't get upset. We'll be around if you need us, okay?" And he closed the door once they were safely out. Yugi peered through the keyhole and watched Bakura, on all fours, circle Ryou a few times before curling up around him and wrapping the angel in his wings again. Malik shoved Yugi aside and peeked in, then let out a little `eep' when he saw the glowing embers glaring at him.
"Ummm… he knows we're watching him….." Malik muttered, backing away from the door.
"Then let's go." Yami said, and began shooing people away from the bedroom.
"What's going on?!" Pegasus demanded.
"YOU made him freak!!!" Marik snapped, glaring at the Arch Angel.
"ME?!"
"Yes!!" Marik snapped. "Whatever you said to him on your little `chat' got him upset! He's gone completely feral!!"
"Huh?"
"He's become an animal, watching over his hibernating mate who is at this moment, helpless."
"Why?"
"Because he's feeling threatened." Marik snarled.
"How long will he be like that?" Malik asked.
"I can only make a guess." Marik said with a shrug.
"And?"
"He'll be like that until Ryou comes out of his hibernation."
"And how long will Ryou be in his hibernation?" Yami asked.
"I have no clue. Last time, he was in it for three days, but if an Arch Angel of Araboth put him into this one then…." He sighed and shrugged.
"Raphael put him into it, only he knows how long." Yugi said. Pegasus snorted.
"If he has gone crazy, I do not want him in there with my nephew!!"
"It's your fault he feels so threatened, you ass!" Marik screamed. Pegasus scowled, then turned and stalked out of the room.
"Where's he going?" Mikado asked, blinking.
"Upstairs…." Ahmose said. Marik's eyes widened and he whirled and ran after the stubborn Arch Angel.
"YOU IDIOT!!! ARE YOU SUICIDAL?!?!" He was screaming. Ahmose and Yami glanced at each other, then leapt up and followed.
Upstairs, Pegasus flung the door open and stalked across to the room towards Bakura, who had leapt up, alarmed. Upon sight of the tall angel, he bared his teeth and growled.
"GET OUT!!" Bakura screamed.
"No, YOU get out." Pegasus demanded, and kept moving towards him. Marik appeared in the doorway just in time to see Bakura scream and launch himself at Pegasus, teeth and claws bared, and snarling like a rabid beast. The Arch Angel yelped, startled, as Bakura brought him crashing to the floor, biting and clawing.
"Bakura!!" Marik shouted, and raced across the room, jerking his friend off of Pegasus. "Calm down!! Get a grip! It's Ryou's uncle! Don't kill him!! And you! Get out you fool! Now!!" He screamed, turning to Pegasus. Pegasus scrambled to his feet and ran over to the bed, reaching for his nephew. This sent Bakura into a frenzy, and Marik was unable to hold him for long.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! DON'T TOUCH HIM!!" Marik screamed as Pegasus grabbed Ryou. Bakura hurled Marik back and made a flying leap to the bed, throwing Pegasus back and crouching above Ryou again, snarling and bristling.
"Get out!" Marik snapped, grabbing Pegasus by the arm and dragging him back. "You're going to get someone killed. How you ever became an Arch Angel is beyond me!" He hurled Pegasus against the wall in the corridor and Ahmose closed the door on the furious demon inside the dark room.
"What happened?" Yami asked.
"The idiot tried to take Ryou away."
"Not smart." Malik said, and earned himself a sharp glare from his elder.
"He is dangerous." Pegasus said stubbornly.
"Only if you try to go near him, and even more so if you try to go near Ryou right now. We have to wait for Ryou to come out of his hibernation before we can safely approach either one of them. Although I think Mr. Big Shot here should avoid approaching Bakura no matter what from now on. He won't forget this, and he'll always be wary and hostile towards you."
Pegasus snarled something under his breath, but turned and swept away. Mikado sighed and rubbed his forehead.
"I'd better go after him. He's bound to complain to the council." He said, and turned and ran after him. "Ahmose, you coming?!" The demon blinked, then followed.
Yugi slowly moved back to the door and knocked. A loud snarl met his knock, and he squeaked and ran away from the door. He latched onto Yami, who chuckled.
"I would suggest that you leave Bakura and Ryou alone." He said, and his angelic lover nodded. Yami smiled and took Yugi's hand, leading him away from the door that Marik and Malik now positioned themselves outside of, like sentries.
"Let's go fly!" Yugi said to Yami, and the demon smiled and nodded.
"Alright then." He said, and followed Yugi out the door and into the air. "Give me a tour of your home, Yugi." Yami said, and Yugi grinned.
"Okay!" He announced, and the demon followed him closely, staring at all of the angels who were staring at him. "Well, as you know, that is our capital…" Yugi said, pointing out the great white marble tower that the Angel High Council was in.
"Yes…" Yami said, admiring the structure best he could; all the bright white in this place was hurting his eyes. "Show me your training grounds."
"Oh, it's not much. Just a large flat open area of cumulus." Yugi said with a shrug. "It's this way. Oh, look! Marik and Malik!"
"They must be headed to your training grounds." Yami said with a grin, watching the two tan blondes arrowing theuir way through the air below them. "We can see it later. Why don't you show me where you are trained by Gabriel."
"Okay!" Yugi said, and changed direction. They flew for a while, the white buildings getting more and more beautiful as they went, until the they reached two white structures that sat across the road from each other, near a stretch of road with no buildings on either side of it, but rather seven sculptures of angels on each side of the road, leading up to an enourmous pair of gates made of gold and flanked by fountains.
"What is that?!" Yami gasped, amazed at the spectacle.
"The Gates of Araboth." Yugi said. "Only the Angels of Araboth are allowed through them." Yami landed in the middle of the road and stared, open mouthed. He walked towards them a bit, then looked to either side of him. There was a pedestal on either side of the road, like the ones that the sculptures of the Angels of Araboth were standing on. But there was no sculpture on them.
"What's the story with these?" Yami asked. "Why don't they have a statue?"
"They used to. A long time ago." Yugi said, looking at them.
"Well?"
"That one, was Lucifer." He said, and Yami blinked. "But then he fell."
"Fell? Lucifer? What was Lucifer doing here?!" Yami asked, and Yugi blinked.
"Lucifer was an Angel of Araboth."
"Lucifer is the father of the Demons! How could he have been an Angel?!"
"He is not the father of demons. But he became one."
"How?!"
"Lucifer was an Angel of Araboth, but he fell in love with the Demon Queen, Lillith. He betrayed his fellow Angels of Araboth, and left them. He fell to Hell and became a Demon." Yami stared.
"And… the other?" He asked, pointing to the other pedestal.
"That was Barakel." Yugi said. "He fell from Heaven to Earth for the love of a human woman, like Lucifer fell for Lillith. And he became mortal."
"I see." Yami said, fascinated. Suddenly, there was a brilliant flash that made Yami yelp and cover his eyes. When he looked up, he saw several figures appearing in the light, and the gates swung open. He noticed Yugi kneel and bow his head, and he himself bowed his head, shielding his eyes from the intense light. After a moment, the light disappeared and he heard footsteps approaching. Slowly, he raised his eyes and faced three Angels of Araboth, one of them, Gabriel. The ArchAngel of Araboth smiled.
"Hello, Yugi." He said, and Yugi looked up and returned the smile.
"Good morning, Lord Gabriel." Yugi said, standing.
"How are you?"
"Fine, sir." Yugi replied, and Yami's eyes widened when the blonde angel turned his eyes on him.
"And you?"
"…… f-f-fine…….." Yami stammered, and Gabriel snickered.
"Calm yourself, Son of Lucifer." He said. "What is your name?"
"Y-Yami." Yami replied, and Gabriel nodded.
"Fitting." He said. "Would you mind walking and talking with me?" Yami's mouth flopped open and closed, not quite sure how to answer.
"Gabriel, is your curiosity getting the better of you?" The red-blonde Angel said, rolling his dark blue eyes.
"Hush, Azrael." Gabriel chuckled. The other angel grunted and rolled steel gray eyes from under dark steel colored hair. "Oh, go about your business. And that goes for you too." The two other Angels of Araboth grunted and passed, throwing looks at Yami. "You could at least be friendly to our guest!" Gabriel called.
"Not Metatron." Azrael called over his shoulder, clapping Metatron on the back. Gabriel laughed, and Yami found it to be a pleasant, musical laugh.
"Come, Yami, Son of Lucifer." He said. "And yes, you too, Yugi. Tell me of Hell and how things are down there." Yami blinked, but followed the Arch Angel of Araboth, and told him of Hell. He told him of the corrupt government that protected a rapist, and of basic things, such as the population, how long the demons were living these days, and how the truth about Lucifer was not revealed to the demons who worshipped him.
"Not at all surprising." Gabriel said with a nod. "They never did reveal the truth behind Lucifer's sudden disappearance."
"What IS the truth?" Yami asked the Angel.
"He challenged Micheal to a Fight to the Death." Gabriel said. "A fight that ended with Micheal the victor. It pained Micheal to kill his twin, but Lucifer had fallen. The leathery wings and tail proved that. It was then that the tradition to fight your counterpart to the death was born." Yami and Yugi stared, amazed.
"You mean, it wasn't always like that?" Yami asked, and Gabriel shook his head.
"No. Lucifer fell. And when he did, so did peace between your kind and ours…."
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Oooooh…… things are starting to come together, ne?
