Chapter One: The New Student

"Mommy!" cried a little girl of six with blond hair as she ran through the debree and dirt, her little white dress flapping maddly behind her. She had tears in her eyes.

It didn't appear like anyone had survived the pharoh's attack this time. Dead bodies were lying all over the place; casualties of a merciless takeover.

The girl was panting heavily from inhaling the dust clouds. She stopped and fell to her knees, sobbing fully now. She was so scared and confused that she didn't have any idea what to do or where to go. "Mommy..." she whispered sadly, closing her eyes.

"Well, well, well," sneered a cruel and rough voice, "It seems that there is at least one survivor..." The voice sounded like the person was only a few feet off.

The girl's heartbeat sped up as she lifted her head, the silvery paths of the tears were still fresh and wet on her cheeks. She knew what was going to happen. She was going to be slaughtered...just like her parents. "No," she cried weakly as she curled up into a fetal position, "No!"

Cruel laughter could be heard as well footsteps getting closer and closer to where the girl had fallen, but after a few seconds, the laugh had turned to a gasp and the steps came to a silent halt.

The girl, obviously confused, looked up and saw a man standing just one foot from her. She was surrounded in a soft white glow. Suddenly, she stood up, no longer afraid. "Leave this place," she ordered in a low and calm voice.

The man was scared beyond belief. Never had he seen such an unusual spectacle in all of Egypt. He tried to turn around and run, but his body resisted and stayed firmly planted where he stood.

The girl frowned in anger and the white light around her became so bright that it could have almost blinded a person if they looked directly into it. After a few more seconds, the light subsidded fully to reveal two beautiful wings attatched to the girl's back. "Leave!" she screamed as a wave of energy shot out towards the still stunned man.

The man didn't have to time to evade the attack and was blown over, injured but not dead. He stared up in shock. "She's...like the pharoh's son," he whispered, his brown eyes widdening.

Several other men approached the scene, their weapons ready in hand. One ran over to help his fellow warrior, while the others stared in amazement.

The girl suddenly stopped screaming and looked around before promptly fainting face first into the dirt. ~I'm sorry mommy...,~ she thought before the darkness overtook her.

Some of the warriors moved in for the kill, but the wounded one quickly intercepted, a painful look on his face. "Don't kill her," he said, "We should take her to pharoh." He bent down and gently lifted the girl's tiny body into his arms and began to walk off, the others following behind with confusion clearly written on their faces.

Bakura quickly sat up in his bed, a deep sweat pouring down the side of his face. He was breathing heavily as his brown eyes darted across the room. He sighed in relief and sunk back down into his soft sheets. "It was just a dream...," he whispered to himself.

The millenium ring around Bakura's neck shined in the moonlight. The ring which bound him to his fate...

He sighed and gently touched his finger the eye design on the inside. ~I don't want to wake Yami,~ he thought to himself as he sighed and closed his eyes. He tried to go back to sleep, but to no avail.

The nightmarish dream he had just woke up from was still playing over and over in his head. He knew that it was foolish to be upset by any normal nightmare, but there was something about this one that was different.

Bakura looked over at his alarm clock and almost groaned in protest when he saw what time it was. ~I've got to get back to sleep,~ he thought to himelf as he wrapped the covers tightly around his body, ~I've got school tomorrow.~ He closed his eyes once more and got into a comfortable position, soon floating off into a deep sleep.

"Class, we have a new student today," announced Yugi's teacher with a smile on his face, "I'd like you all to welcome Charity Silvers to Domino High."

The door slid open to reveal a girl of fourteen with long golden blond hair that was up in a ponytail and sparkling firey blue eyes. She was wearing the school uniform just like everyone else and she had a nervous look on her face.

Yugi had stopped what he was working on and looked at the girl. He noticed that she didn't seem to want to look at anyone. ~She's probably just nervous,~ he thought to himself as he looked at Bakura.

Bakura looked like a wreck. He yawned, covering his mouth with his hand and then closed his eyes. He looked like he'd fall out of his chair any minute. However, he did get a quick glance at Charity, feeling very odd for some reason.

Charity turned her glance from the floor to Bakura and got a shocked look on her face. ~I've seen him before,~ she thought to herself as she quickly averted her gaze.

The teacher seemed to notice Charity's tension. "Charity," he said softly, "Why don't you go sit in the empty seat right next to Seto Kaiba?"

Charity visibly perked up at the mention of Seto's name and smiled slightly when she spotted him reading a book, as usual. "Alright," she said just as softly before quickly walking over to the seat and sitting down. ~Well, it's good to see a familier face,~ she thought.

Seto set the book he had been readiung down on the desk and looked at Charity. He nodded in greeting, but did nothing more and looked away.

Bakura was trying desperately to keep his eyes open, but was having extreme difficulty. He looked down at his Millinnium Ring, which was hidden under his shirt. He started to panic when he saw that it was glowing a little bit. ~No,~ he silently prayed, ~Please, not now...~

"Bakura?" whispered Yugi as he looked at his friend in concern, "Are you alright? You look kind of pale."

"I'm fine!" Bakura whispered quickly as he stood and walked over towards the door in a fast past, knowing that he would be stopped right before he managed to set one foot out.

"Bakura?" said the teacher as he crossed his arms and looked sternly at the white-haired boy, "Where exactly are you going?"

Bakura slowly turned around and placed his hand on his stomach, pretending to be extremely sick. "I've really got to go to the bathroom before I..." he cut himself and placed his hand over mouth, making a sound like he was about to vomit.

The teacher quickly excused Bakura from the class and told him to take as much time as he needed. He also suggested that he go home for the rest of the day. Great, that was all he needed, to go home. He sighed and quickly ran into the boy's bathroom.

The ring suddenly began to glow even more and appeared on the outside of Bakura's school uniform. A couple seconds later, a boy that looked almost exactly like him, except for the crueler and more slanted eyes. He smirked as he looked at himself in the mirror.

Bakura, who had been forced into his soulroom, looked around gloomily. He knew that his darker half was up to no good. ~Yami,~ he thought as he sat down on the plain bed, ~What are you planning?~ He got no answer.

Charity grabbed her lunch tray and began looking for a place to sit. She still hadn't hardly said anything to anyone. She smiled when she spotted a table that seemed to be secluded and sat down.

Everyone that pased Charity by, looked at her in slight surprise and walk off after a few seconds, but some of the others would whisper stuff to their friends, causing them to giggle slightly. She hated it, but had come to ignore the laughs and looks. It was in her nature to be shy.

A tray was suddenly set down next to Charity's, causing her to jump a bit out of surprise. She looked up and saw Seto. She smiled a bit. "Hey," she said softly before turning her attention back to her food.

Seto didn't say anything and sat down in the seat beside hers. After a few minutes, he finally decided to say something. "I never thought I'd see you here," he said as he looked at her, a small smile finding its way onto his face.

Charity giggled a bit at the comment. "Well, haven't changed much since the last time we met..." she trailed off, a painful look on her face. She sighed and then went back to eating her meal.

Seto sighed and shook his head. ~After all this time,~ he thought to himself as he observed Charity out of the corner of his eye, ~She still remembers...~ "So, how is Celeste doing?"

Charity smiled at the mention of her little sister's name. "She's doing just great," she answered before letting out a small laugh, "As energetic as ever. She's also pretty good at Duel Monsters. What about Mokuba?"

"He's doing alright," Seto said, "He's been doing pretty good at Duel Monsters as well. He got pretty close to beating me a couple of days ago."

Charity smiled sweetly and then stood with her tray in her hands. "Well, I'll see you back at class," she said in tones as soft as a lullaby. With that, she quickly dumped her tray walked off.

Seto sat in his spot for the remainder of lunch, finishing up his lunch. He was deep in thought. He then stood and dumped his tray and then walked out the door and headed for the classroom.

"Sir," said a man that was wearing a hooded cloak to hide his idenity, "We have sent out all the invitations."

"Excellent," a voice hissed in the dark shadows, "Now all that remains is to collect the Millennium Items from the seven holders...one by one. Make sure every duelist who was invited attends...by any means necessesary."

The man gulped and nodded, knowing better than to argue with his boss. He quickly ran down the now desserted street. ~Man,~ he thought, ~The boss has flipped his wig this time. All seven Millennium Items in the same place and at the same time? How does he plan on pulling this one off?~

A dark figure walked out of the dark allyway once the man had left and smirked evilly. "The time draws near," he said with excitement, "You may be king of games, Yami, but will you be able to keep that title for long? All is going according to plan..."

Well, that's about it for the first chapter. What did you think? Liked it? Hated it? Please R & R, but be gentle.
