Yami and the slave were back in Yami's room. When the boy had fallen unconscience yami had run back to his palace and climbed through the window. The younge slave was now unconscience in the pharaohs' bed. 'He looks so angelic when he is asleep. Maybe I could... NO! Last time I opened up I was raped and beaten' again, Yami froze in his thoughts.

*9 years ago. Yami's 8th birthday*
Yami was summoned to the throne room once again by his step father. As afraid as he was he couldn't deny the pharaoh. After all, Set could do whatever he pleased. 'At least when he rapes me I don't feel it anymore. I'm used to it so it's like nothing' Yami thought, trying to comfort himself as he entered the throne room.
"Yami, my son, come in." Set said standing up and walking to the throne room door;locking it behind Yami. "Just want to tell you Happy Birthday. However I want you to do something for me."
"What is it Set." a younger and lighter voiced Yami said.
"Smile for me one last time. Because I am going to finish what I started yesterday. Do you know what I am talking about?"
"Yes Set." he said, faking a smile. Before Yami knew what was happening he was once again against the wall and his father was thrusting in and out. That smile was the last anyone ever saw for the next 9 years before the slave came along.
*Present Day*
"My lord. Are you all right." the slave boy said, looking up at Yami."
"Y-yes." Yami said shakily. "Tell me, what is your name?"
"Yugi, sire."
"How did your parents come up with that?"
"My grandfather was very into games before your step father had him executed and I was born the day he killed. So they named me Yugi. How did your mother come up with Yami?"
"She changed before she died. She said that it seemed I had been over come by darkness. That an evil had taken hold of me. So she said my name was now Yami. I have been called that ever since." Yami said. Yugi thought he could see tears in the pharaohs eyes. He stood up and put his arms around Yami's shoulder. Yami tried to pull away but Yugi wouldn't let him.
"It's okay my lord. I won't hurt you. I am not your step father. I want to help you. Tell me, how old were you when your mother died?"
"7. You need to go. I have had enough of you and my guards trying to comfort me about my past. It is history. Over. Do not think or act as if you know about what happened to me in my past." Yami said standing up, the anger evident in his eyes. Yugi responed with just as much force.
"It may be history but you still have the scars! What is so bad about letting someone care about you pharaoh! Is it because your pharaoh! Is it because you're afraid! Obviously you are much more ignorant then people say! I could have left you alone to wallow in your pathetic misery instead of helping you, but I wanted to help you! I have learned the value of life. Everyone in my family had been executed by your step father and except my mother who was killed by you and I still wanted to help you! Now I am dying and no one knows except me and now you but I still try and help anyone who needs it! I bet if you were dying you would just sit around moping because there was nothing you could do. Poor you! Yugi finished and was panting for air. Yami had only grown more angry at everything Yugi had said. Now he did something he swore he would never do, he backhanded Yugi across the face and threw him across the room. A moment later Yugi stood up glaring. "I thought you were better than your step father. But you are exactly like him. I watched him beat you when you were seven you know. I am only a year younger than you. When I saw how in pain you were I swore I would help you. So know I tried. But you really are hopeless." Yugi finished and climbed through the window.

"Would it kill you to be nice?" a voice said behind Yami and he wheeled around." It was the guard who had accompanied him to his room before.
"You are speaking out of turn." Yami said through gritted teeth.
"Yes I am. But the boy is right and you know it. Like he said he is dying yet he showed you compassion and you still pushed him away."
"I could have you executed, you know."
"Yes Yami I do know. Fine. Have me executed but let me finish first. I know your step father constantly raped you and beat you so now you have decided that no one is to be trusted. For the first time in many years someone got over their fears and though he knew that you could have him executed like you had done to his mother he still tried to comfort you. He showed you something no one else notices and then you bring him back here, only to end up beating him. Now I have a question. What the hell is wrong with you!?"
"I would suggest you leave now." Yami said thickly.
"Fine. I have said what I wanted and though it probably hasn't penetrated that thick skull of yours I have said it. If you ask me I think you should invite him to stay in the palace where the boy can have proper treatment. Besides I saw you with him. I think in your heart, though you fear getting hurt, you really love him." the guard said and turned away, shutting the door behind him; leaving Yami alone to think about all that had been said. Yami sighed and crawled through his window to go find Yugi.

Yami recieved strange looks as he passed. Murmured whispers of 'what is he doing?' and 'who is he going to kill now?' This made Yami feel bad but he continued as if nothing had happened. When he found Yugi he was curled up behind a hut sleeping. When Yami got close he noticed how many bruises he had all over his body. 'who did this?' Yami mentally asked himself. His question was answered when the store owner came out and looked upon the Pharaoh hunched over the unconcious slave.
"You should have him executed sire. Caught the worthless little slave stealing from me. He claimed it was for two starving children just down the road but I know better. He's just greedy. As soon as you leave I'll finish what I started." the fat man said bowing respectfully.
"What will you do when I leave with him?" the pharaoh asked picking Yugi up gently and then standing up himself.
"W-what? Are you going to kill him, my lord?"
"No. I am going to help him. As well as the children he wanted to help. You yourself are lucky I do not have you executed for harming him."
"B-but sire. He is a slave. Worthless to you."
"Do not tell me who or who is not worthless. By the way, his name is Yugi." Yami said walking away to find the two kids Yugi had wanted to help. It didn't take him long as two dirty children ran up to him, wanting to know what had happened to the boy in his arms. Yami informed them then asked them to show him where they lived so that he could have basketfulls of food sent there every day to keep their family well fed. They obliged and Yami made a note so he could send them food and other supplies that their parents would need to get a decent job. They thanked him as he walked away, holding Yugi tightly to him.

*The next morning*
Yugi awoke in a room he did not recognize. He knew from the elegance that it must be Yami's palace but this wasn't the pharaohs room.
"Do you like it?" Yami's voice said behind him.
"You." Yugi said glaring.
"I know you're angry. Please listen to me. I don't know what came over me but one of my guards straightened me out. I want to offer you a place to stay here. Where you can have proper medical care when you need it." Yugi looked with curiosity upon the pharaoh. What had sparked this sudden change?
"How do I know I can trust you."
"Yugi, please. If you wish you never have to see me again. Please, I am begging you accept my offer. I will show you around the palace then leave you in peace."
"Fine." Yugi said stubbornly.
"Good. Come on. Let me show you around." Yami said. Yugi crawled off the bed and for the rest of the day the two boys spent exploring the palace and laughing together. For once, Yami felt at home and safe. Not as a ruler.....just a friend. 'Maybe more.' he thought...
