One Friday afternoon, Seto Kaiba is at Kaiba Corp. putting his finishing touches on his latest VR machine.

Kaiba: Finished! Now, let's start this up.

Kaiba throws the power switch, and after a power flux, the machine starts up. He then steps on the transfer pad and disappears.

***In the game world***

Kaiba reappears.

Kaiba: Hmmm… this seems okay… Huh?

Kaiba turns around and screams.

---The next Monday at school---

Yugi: I sacrifice my monsters and summon Dark Magician, who will destroy your Alligator's Sword and wipe out your Life Points.

Joey: Huh? Not again!

Téa walks in.

Téa: Hey, has anyone seen Kaiba. It's past lunch time. He's never missed a day of school.

Joey: No sweat. He's probably just sick or sometin'.

---On Tuesday after school, at Duke's Game Shop---

Yugi: Kaiba hasn't been to school for two days, Duke. I'm starting to get worried.

Duke: Yeah, I've noticed.

Joey: Well, I just tink he's sick.

Tristan: For two days straight?

Téa: Kaiba's never missed school… ever.

Duke: Well, maybe something happ…

Suddenly, two of Seto Kaiba's people bust down the door.

Thug 1: Yugi, you're commin wit us!

Joey: Hey, Yuge's not going anywhere.

Joey turns to Yugi.

Joey: Are ya?

Thug 2, 8-feet tall, lunges out and knocks out Yugi and Joey and takes them away. Thug 1 puts the door back on the hinges and the two thugs leave before anyone has noticed anything.

Téa: Hey! They've got Yugi and Joey.

Tristan: Let's go after them!

Duke nods in agreement. Then the clock chimes 10 o'clock at night.

Téa: …Or maybe we can wait 'til morning.

Duke yawns.

Duke: Sounds like a plan.

---Even later that night (10:20)---

Thug 1 (the same one) and Thug 2 (still the same) are out side of Domino High School with duel discs.

Thug 1: We destroy anyone who comes here!

Thug 2: …tomorrow morning.

---At 11:00---

Grandpa: I'm bored. I'll just watch the news.

Grandpa turns on the TV and sits on the beanbag chair.

***On the Television***

News Anchor: Hello, I'm your new Anchorman, Robert Phillips. Our top story tonight, two Domino teens, who were identified as Yugi Motoh and Joesph Wheeler are missing after two men broke in to a Game Shop owned by Duke Devlin, who said, quote, "My friends and I will look for him in the morning. Many think this is related to why Seto Kaiba is missing. In other news, 26 million donuts have been delivered to the Domino Police Station.

Grandpa: Oh no! They have Yugi! And the cops will be eating donuts for days!

***Wednesday morning, 3:30 AM***

Duke wakes up. He shakes Tristan, who was sleeping on the bed on the far wall.

Tristan: What are you doing? It's still dark!

Duke: Yugi and Joey are missing, remember?

A little while later, Duke knocks on Téa's door. Receiving no response, he opens the door, finding a note on Téa's bed.

Duke and Tristan-

Tristan: Whoa! She went to Kaiba Corp on her own?

Duke: Well, let's go!

***At Kaiba Corp***

Tristan: Wow, we really got lucky, huh?

Duke: You're telling me… the doors were wide open.

The two enter the room where Seto Kaiba had been 5 days earlier.

Duke: Tristan, what do you make of this screen?

On the screen was:

Player 1: Seto Kaiba; Life Points: 3550

Player 2: Yugi Motoh; Life Points: 3900

Player 3: Joey Wheeler; Life Points: 4000

Player 4: Téa Gardner; Life Points: 5500

Tristan: Hmmm…

Tristan steps on the transport pad.

Duke: Tristan!

Duke looks back to the readout as this is added:

Player 5: Tristan Taylor; Life Points: 4000

Duke: Tristan, you idiot!

Duke goes and steps on the pad as well.

***Inside of the VR "Game"***

Duke opens his eyes. On his left arm is a duel disc reading "4000 LP". On his right arm is a readout screen flashing "SELECT CARDS" over and over again. So, after he selects some cards, he immediately starts a duel with a weird Monster/Duelist thing.

***With Yugi Motoh***

Yugi Motoh: 3900 LP

On his field were 4 Kuriboh Tokens (300/200 [x4]) and a Dark Magician Girl (2000/1700).

Opponent: 2800 LP

On its field was a Skilled Drak Magician (1900/1700) with 2 Spell Counters and a fecedown card.

Yugi draws a card.

Yugi: I sacrifice 2 Kuriboh Tokens and summon Dark Magician (2500/2100). Attack, followed by the Dark Magician Girl!

Opponent: 200 LP

Ygui: Kuriboh Tokens, finish him!

Opponent: 0 LP

Yugi's opponent disappears as its Life Points drop to 0, and all of Yugi's cards are recalled. (YUGI'S LP: 3920)

Yugi: Huh?

This is the End of Chapter 1.
