It was warm, like it usually was. The sun shone down upon the earth, bathing everyone in its warm rays. Residents and tourists alike scattered like ants into the shade. Including a girl. She was average size, and with her deep tan skin and black hair, she blended into the crowd of bustling Egyptians.
A small basket of food hung from her elbows, filled with apples, bread, grapes, and more delicious-looking food. She slipped into a small house where an elderly lady greeted her warmly, taking the basket of food from her.
"Is there any money left?" the woman asked.
The girl gave her two coins, and followed the old lady into the kitchen. Grabbing a knife, the girl began to cut the bread, only enough for her and her grandmother. The apples were also cut, again, only enough for two people.
The old lady eased herself into a chair, and smiled as the girl brought four plates, two filled with food, and two empty ones. The older clasped her hands together, the younger copied, and they said a prayer of thanks.
"Great Ra, thank you for your smiling rays of sun on our lives, and thank you that we may feast in your honor today, and live to see this day you have created." Their voices mingled in unison.
They ate silently, and after they had finished, the girl cleared the table. "Thank you, Kesi." The older woman said. "I'm going upstairs for a nap."
Kesi smiled, nodded, and took the dishes. She went outside and filled up the bucket with water and soap, grabbed a rag and started on the dishes. Only when she was done did she notice the drops of blood. She frowned, and shaking her wet hands, followed them cautiously. She always carried some sort of knife with her, and it always was kept attached to her upper arm.
Walking down the deserted path, she shivered, even though it was familiar. It led to a shed. No one had ever used it, the shed was mostly meant for storage, and had long since been abandoned. She put her hand on her dagger when she reached it. The blood stopped at the door. Kesi took a deep breath.
She opened the door slowly and quickly and clumsily pulled out the knife in one motion. Or tried to. It clattered to the floor and she winced at the noise of metal making contact with wood. Kesi grabbed it and held it in front of her, her hands shaking.
She had never really actually usedthe knife, it just made her feel safer that she had some sort of weapon with her. She crept as quietly as she could inside, for all she knew no one was there, she was just imagining things. A shiver ran through her back, and she knew someone was there.
"Who's there?" she demanded shakily.
A weak laugh sounded from inside the shed. She followed it, and soon came to a dark corner. With a shaking hand, she reached for the lantern, and light flooded the small shed. She wished she hadn't done that.
A man, not two years older than her young age of eighteen lay there. His eyes protested his sanity, and his white hair was splattered with blood. A scar was on his cheek, by the looks of it the healing was already taking place. His entire body was covered with blood, and Kesi guessed that it was not all his own.
"Who are you?"
He smiled, a smile that was not meant kindly, and no sooner had the words left her mouth her blue eyes widened and she gasped. His smirk grew wider as she recognized who he was. He studied her. She was tall, but judging from the objects surrounding her, he was a bit taller.
Her black hair hung down to the middle of her back, secured at the ends by a small piece of ribbon. Two pieces were left to frame her face. Her blue eyes screamed fear, and a simple beige dress covered her body. Over top of a pair of matching beige shorts was the dress with a slit all the way to her waist.
"Bakura.. The Thief King." she said, receiving a nod of the head in return.
"Get me water." He commanded, and she smiled slightly.
"You're injured."
He rolled his eyes. "I hadn't noticed. Water."
She complied, reminded of the fact that he was in fact, a thief with the ability to kill, and even in his condition he could probably do so. Kesi returned a bit later with a cup of water, and a small piece of bread. He grabbed it greedily, and devoured the bread in such nature Kesi had to smile. Soon the water was gone, and he thrust the cup back at her.
"Stay here, I'll be right back."
"Where are you going?" he asked suspiciously.
"Stay here."
He grabbed her bare ankle and yanked, causing her to fall to the floor, and both of them winced, Bakura from his wounds, and Kesi from the hard floor that came in contact with her body. Bakura's threat grew weaker, although the arrogance was still there.
"I asked you a question, woman."
Kesi groped for her knife, imagining it to be just a few feet away from her hand. She heard a weak chuckle from behind her. She turned, and saw Bakura with her knife. "Looking for this?"
Now she was scared. Before she still was, considering there was a thief in her shed, but with dozens of wounds. Now there was a thief with a knife, albeit a wounded one. She groaned. "If you must know, I was going to get bandages."
He glared. "Like hell you were."
He was right, of course, she hadn't really. She was going to bolt for it, and get someone whom wanted Bakura alive. Kesi maneuvered herself so that she was kneeling, and slowly edged away from Bakura, who didn't seem to notice. Suddenly, she stood up, and ran for the slightly closed door, when a dull `thud' sounded right beside her ear.

AN: Short, but I had to end it right there. Otherwise I would have been rambling on forever. This is my first AU and Yu-Gi-Oh fic, so please be kind. I'm sorry if it seems slow or that the characters seem a bit OOC, I'm trying my best. ^-^ That said, please review!
