Chapter One

Twenty thousand years ago, before the great rise of Egypt and the tragic fall of Atlantis, there was another civilization. One of tranquility and balance. Who many have dismissed as a mere child's fairy tale and legend. This place was the Holy Isle of Avalon.

Those who believe that it once existed, claim it to have been the most beautiful place in history. Composed of gorgeous flowers, plants, and trees. Magnificent waterfalls, rivers, and lakes. The Isle of Avalon is said to have been the largest island in creation. All the villages and towns scattered throughout the land were small and simple, save one.

In the center of the island, near a thunderous waterfall, was the largest village of all. With grand gardens, stone pathways, homes, and temples. This is where the Lady of the Lake and the eight Celestial Knights resided. These people were the ones who governed and protected the people and Avalon.

The Celestial Knights were high priests and priestesses who governed an element – light, darkness, water, earth, air, fire, ice, and lightning. Each one a guardian of the Celestial Jewels and Sacred Weapons of Avalon. The Celestial Knights, who were hand picked and trained by the Lady of the Lake, protected and guarded Avalon from all threats. Able to summon or merge with their Kaa if needed.

Avalon was a wondrous place, full of life and joy, which prospered under the watchful gaze of the Lady and her Knights. But, like many other great civilizations, Avalon eventually fell. A great tragedy that no one could have foreseen. For how could they? How could anyone have foreseen the threat? Who could have foreseen such a betrayal?

Fire spread throughout the area. Engulfing everything with its blazing flames. People screamed as they ran from their burning homes. All the beautiful gardens and fountains lay in ashes. Once grand temples and pathways turned to rubble. Everything laid in ruins as the flames rose higher into the night sky. Screams echoed throughout the land. However, a malicious laugh could be heard among the chaos as huge blasts of colored energy clashed.

Standing in the center of the great courtyard were several figures. One being, clothed in long black robes, stood behind a monstrous beast, laughing at the destruction caused to this great place. The other figures faced them off, their own monsters standing before them. All standing perfectly still, the monsters awaiting their masters command, as the chaos around them continued.

The dark figure threw out their arm and point at them. "You fools!" They shouted. "Now do you understand that you cannot defeat me?! That your pitiful monsters cannot compare to my great beast! Even combined they are no match!"

"You shall pay for what you’ve done betrayer!" A young woman, behind a Blue-Eyes White Dragon, shouted.

"Foolish girl! Your . . . precious . . . Lady of the Lake is no more. And the rest of you are nothing but children! You cannot defeat me!"

"But we can try! Valkyrie!"

"Blue-Eyes!"

"Red-Eyes!"

"Gaia!"

"Sacred Phoenix!"

"Celtic Guardian!"

"Winged Dragon!"

"Raging Sprite!"

"Attack!" They shouted.

Great blasts of energy collided with the traitor’s monster, creating a large amount of smoke and gusts of wind. But, despite their efforts, it was in vain. The beast still stood unharmed.

"Ha! Fools! Avalon will fall! But first . . ." The figure smirked. "It’s time to pay for your defiance! Go my great beast! Show them your full power! Attack!"

A tremendous blast of energy shot towards the young men and women. Sounds of pain and agony could be heard as it collided.

Yugi Mouto shot up from his bed. Cold sweat running down his small frame as he clutched his sheets. ‘Th-That dream. What was that?’

"Yugi? Are you alright?"

He turned and met Yami’s concerned face. The former spirit of the Millennium puzzle knelt beside him; said puzzle hanging from his neck. Somehow, the spirits of the Millennium items were able to separate. But no one knew how. Now both Yami and Bakura lived with their hikari’s and attended Domino High. Much to Bakura’s dismay.

"I’m fine Yami. I just had a strange dream. That’s all"

Yami nodded. "Hmm. Yes. Of the duel monsters and those people. Am I correct?"

"Yeah," Yugi nodded vigorously. "How’d you know?"

Yami sat on the edge of the bed. "I also had the same dream. But something tells me this was no ordinary dream. Those people . . ." He looked out the window. "Even though I couldn’t see them well, I can tell they were powerful."

"Yami. What do you think this means? Could it have been a vision?"

The former pharaoh rubbed his temples and sighed. "I don’t know Yugi. But we – what?"

The Millennium Puzzle began to glow and both men felt an incredible surge of power. A surge that rivaled, or maybe even surpassed, that of the Millennium items. But somehow it felt familiar. It had that same feeling of power as in their dream.

Suddenly it stopped. Leaving them breathless and certain that their dream was not ordinary. Something was coming and they couldn’t help but wonder if this was good or bad.

On a small hillside, in the Domino State Park, eight figures stood under some willow trees by a small lake. Each gazing at the full moon as a light breeze caressed them. The sounds of crickets and small animals chattering around them. But if you looked closer, you could see small tears streaming down their faces.

A strange glow emitted from the jewels around their necks. Casting a multitude of brilliant colors – white, purple, dark blue, green, aquamarine, red, cream white, and light blue. The colors creating an otherworldly look as the gems cast their glow. Seeming to dance and swirl across the trees, grass, and people. But soon they started to die down. The small area becoming shrouded in darkness. Illuminated only the by the cast of the moon’s rays. And soon the colored lights stopped completely. The small wind that had been blowing ceased instantly and everything fell still.

The figures took one last look at the moon before turning away. Saying their farewell’s they parted and headed towards their homes. But none noticed the dark figure that had been watching them. They emerged from their hiding spot and stood in the same area as the others. Looking up at the moon, they scowled before walking away in the opposite direction.
