Chapter 3: Duelling Identities

Seto Kaiba sat at his desk typing on his laptop. He had a lot on his mind at the moment and couldn't really think. All he could think of was Kima beating him. It was even worse then when Yugi beat me.

Kaiba got up from his chair and walked to his big window. He brought his hand up and touched the window. Just as he did that, Kaiba was drawn into a new world.

Ah, where am I? Kaiba looked around and saw that he was surrounded by a bunch of people. For some reason, everyone was lined up making a path for someone. Kaiba noticed himself wearing Egyptian clothes. What the…? What's going on here? Kaiba then saw everyone bow down. A carriage emerged from the end of the line.

Yami stepped off the carriage. Kaiba narrowed his eyes. Yami stepped closer to Kaiba and raised his staff.

"Servant, how dare you stand before a Pharaoh. Bow down now or you will be severely punished." Kaiba looked at Yami very confused.

"Yami, what are you talking about? You are not a Pharaoh." Gasps came from the crowd.

"You may not speak to me that way commoner. Now you shall face the consequence of your words." Yami glared at Kaiba as the millennium symbol glowed on his forehead. The sky turned dark and lightening showered across the sky. "I shall send you to the Shadow Realm for your incompetence." Yami yelled at Kaiba. Kaiba took a step back, looking up at the sky.

"My Pharaoh, please stop!" Called a voice. Both Yami and Kaiba turned toward the voice. Kaiba saw that it was a young girl who was sprawled on the ground, obviously in a bowing sense. She had a white dress on. She did not look up at all. Yami lowered his staff and the sky cleared up. Kaiba couldn't stop looking at the girl. She looks so familiar. I could swear I've seen her somewhere before. But where? Yami walked toward the girl and knelt down, touching her hair.

"Arise, my princess." Yami said to her. The girl got on her hands and knees. Yami stood up and the girl rose on her feet. She turned her head to look Kaiba straight in the eyes. Ah, no way! But that's… that's… Kima. Kaiba's mind raced and he started to back away. Yami glared at him but then turned to look at the girl.

"Minka, why did you stop me? What right do you have in deciding who I shall send to the Shadow Realm?"

"My Pharaoh. I know I don't have the right but I realize the this commoner is a stranger among us. Besides, you have always told me that the Shadow Realm is a place of chaos and misery and that anyone who is anyone should not be condemned to it." Minka explained. She looked Yami in the eyes. Yami smiled and placed his hand on her shoulder.

"Thank you Minka for reminding me of the one thing that makes me so angry." Yami walked back to his carriage and took off toward his castle. The crowd of people got up and went on with their daily routines. Minka walked up to Kaiba and gave him a little smile.

"You must be very careful. The Pharaoh is not like usually like this. He is under a lot of stress. But I warn you, do not pull a stunt like that ever again because the next time, I won't be able to stop him." Minka waved her hand and started to walk away.

"Kima, wait!" Cried Kaiba. Minka stopped and made a swift turn making her hair whip around with force.

"Kima? No one has called me that in years. I haven't had that name since…." Kima dazed off. Kaiba stared at her. Kima looked up at him and met his eyes. "How would you know my name? I have never seen you in my life." Kaiba looked away. Minka walked up to Kaiba and raised her left hand up to Kaiba's forehead and touched her forehead with her finger with the other hand. She mumbled something and a gust of wind blew. Light surrounded Minka and an S symbol went onto her forehead. It lasted only a minute when everything went back to normal.

"I see. You are a stranger. One that comes from the future." Suddenly, Minka's eyes narrowed and she became angry. She looked at Kaiba like he was a bug that needed to be squashed. "Go away!" Kaiba's eye's widened.

"What' wrong?"

"You don't belong here. Leave now. It's for your own good. If you don't, then I won't be responsible for what happens to you." Kima glared at Kaiba one last time, then walked away. Kaiba blinked as he stared at his reflection in the window. He turned away and walked out of his office. He just stared into space. Mokuba ran around the corner to talk to his older brother.

"Seto, I've got great news…" Mokuba stopped as he watched his brother walk past him without saying a word or even looking at him. "Seto?" Mokuba ran off and flew out the door of the mansion. Something is wrong with Seto. I have to get help. Mokuba stopped in front of Turtle Game Shop where Yugi lived. He knocked 3 times. He could hear some voices and footsteps approaching the door. Yugi opened the door to stare Mokuba in the eyes.

"Mokuba, what's wrong?" Yugi asked him sounding very concerned. He let Mokuba in and Mokuba sat on the couch. Joey, Tristan, Tea, and Kima were all sitting in a circle on the floor.

"Yugi." Mokuba started. "Something's wrong with Seto. He looks like he's seen a ghost or something. He walked past me without saying or even looking at me. Maybe you could snap him out of it. Please Yugi! I don't know what else to do." Yugi looked from Mokuba to his friends. Just then Kima got on her feet and walked over to Mokuba.

"Take me to your brother Mokuba. I think I may know what is wrong. I will get him out of his trance." Kima helped Mokuba off the couch and the two of them left. Joey, Tristan, and Tea got up from the floor. All four of them looked at each other, then ran off after Mokuba and Kima.

Seto Kaiba was sitting on the chair in his room. Everyone watched him. Kima stepped up to Kaiba and knelt down. She looked him straight in his eyes.

"You know, don't you Kaiba Maybe this is a sign for me. Maybe the time is right." Kima straightened out and turned her head to her friends. Mokuba ran up to Kaiba and started to say his name, just in case Kaiba heard him. Kima stepped toward Yugi and looked at the floor.

"Yugi, I haven't been totally honest about who I am." Yugi looked up at her. Yami closely listened through the power of the millennium puzzle. " I don't know where to start but…." Kima reached into her pocket and gripped something shinny. She opened up her hand to reveal a ring. It had a bright red stone in the middle of it. "Yami gave this ring to me 5 millennia ago." Kima started to cry, remembering the sadness she felt. "Back then, I wasn't known as Kima. My name was Minka. Princess Minka. Yami and I had an arranged marriage. At first, we both weren't really happy about it. But as the weeks went by, we fell in love. But the damn Shadow Games got in the way of our happiness. Yami was so into destroying the games that he left me. He went to do the final battle. I tried to stop him. I possess powers too and that if him and I were to team up, he would not have died. Yami insisted that I stay, for my own safety. Yami gave me this ring as a bind of our love and that he would be with me always, kissed me, then left and I never saw him again. When I found out that Yami trapped himself and the Shadow Games in seven millennium items, and that only a chosen one can unlock him, I decided to put a spell on myself. Whenever Yami was unlocked from the millennium puzzle, I would be resurrected and find him again. It took me a long time to find out where he was. At first, I thought that he would still be in Egypt. When I came here to Domino, and saw Yami, I was really disappointed that he did not recognize me. I thought that by me duelling Kaiba, that he would have remembered."

Kima took out her duelling deck and looked at it. "It was Yami who taught me to duel." Yami came out of the millennium puzzle.

"Kima, if you were who you say you were, was your name Minka?" Yami looked a Kima with curiosity.

"That wasn't my real name then. My parents were murdered when I was 7 years old. My mother hid me in a secret door that we had. I heard it all. When everything was quiet, I emerged from my hiding space and ran. Later, I was adopted as a servant for a pharaoh. But then, he learned that he was not able to have children. For a strange reason, he decided to pronounce me a princess. Maybe it was that I was a kind person to everyone, I don't know. I grew up and began to be a real princess. Then I was told when I was 17 that I was to be married to a pharaoh. An arranged marriage. I wanted to protest but I knew that it would be useless to do so.

I arrived to meet my soon-to-be husband. When I looked at the pharaoh, something struck me. He did not look like how I had imagined. Soon, I began to fall in love with him. Then Yami told me about the Shadow Games that are threatening the world. I asked him what the Shadow Games are and he showed me. When he did, I got an idea. I went to the Shadow Realm, not knowing of its dangers. I just barely managed to get out of it alive. If it had not been for Yami…"

"Yami, do you remember any of this?" Yugi looked to his right to see Yami beside him.

"I remember most of what Kima is telling us. I wasn't able to remember until I've had recurring dreams. But there is still a mystery. Kima, how were you able to stay alive after 5 000 years?" Kima took a couple of steps toward Yami and held up the ring she had in her hand.

"When you looked yourself and the Shadow Games into the millennium items, I put a spell on myself. I didn't want to live my life without you, Yami. I locked my soul into this ring until the day that you would have been unlocked. When Yugi did solve the puzzle, I was released and given my body back. I had to search for you and when I did, I was so happy." Kima ran up to Yami and hugged him. She let go and turned to face Kaiba who was still sitting in his chair looking into space. "Kaiba was part of our past too, Yami. He was an evil sorcerer who wanted the Shadow Games to take over.

But there is more than that. I had met him before and after that, the wanted to take me away from you. You were constantly fighting with him. But just like you, Kaiba didn't remember anything that had happened 5000 years ago." Kima looked Yami in the eyes again.

"So why is Kaiba like this now? Is he learning his past?" Yugi stepped forward. Kima

"Yeah he is, Yugi." Kima stepped up to Kaiba again and placed a hand on his forehead and a finger on her forehead. "Kaiba, open your mind!" Everything went dark. Yugi ran through the endless darkness. He stopped when he heard some chanting. He saw only a little glimpse of light. He ran to it. Yugi gasped when he saw some men in robes and two people were duelling. But instead of them playing with cards, they were using stone tablets. He stepped forward when he noticed that the two people were Yami and Kaiba.

"Yugi." Yugi looked back to see Kima.

"Kima, what's going on here? What is this?" Kima stepped to the side of Yugi and looked at the duel.

"This is what happened in the past. This is Yami and Kaiba duelling. Duelling for me." Kima looked down. A tear went down her face. "Luckily, no one was hurt during this duel because I stopped it. But this is it Yugi. This is what they've been reduced to."

Yugi looked on as the duel had begun to disappear. There was more to Yami's past then Yugi had ever thought. Their identities had just begun to show their true colours. Now Yugi was more devoted into figuring Yami's past. Also, what other secrets are within Kima.
