Anzu Mazaki walked out from the darkness of her stone house into the bright, hot sunlight. She shield her eyes and looked around at the other people who were slaving away at their small farms, and gardens. "Ishnew, its time to get to work." she called looking back into the house. "Come on Ishnew, I can't do all this myself."

The small black haired boy walked out of the house, his white rage cloths was ripped and dirty, just like his older sisters dress. He looked up at Anzu. "Sis, I wish mom and dad were here. I can't take much more of this."

Anzu wished the same, she thought back to the day Pharaoh Yami's guards came to their house and beat their mother and father to death. They said it was the Pharaoh's order because they weren't supplying enough of their crop. Since their house and Miho's house was the closest to the Pyramid walls, they were the ones who were to supply the people inside with food. Anzu didn't know what to think, she never seen Yami in her life, and she heard many bad things about him and the people inside the Pyramid walls.

"Its okay, Ishnew." Anzu said handing her brother a pitch fork. "Now, go to the garden and fix it up, we need more food. I'll go and take care of the animals." Ishnew sighed and walked out back into the garden. Anzu smiled and went around to the side of the house into the stables.

"Hey Nory." Anzu said to the chestnut mare as she walked over to the giant hay stack. The horse snorted and nudged Anzu in the shoulder. "Yeah, yeah. Hold it, I'll get you an apple or something." Anzu picked up a small, red apple from a bucket. "You better be happy with this Nory, me and Ishnew put you before us."

Nory snorted again and took the apple out of Anzu's hand. "Good girl." Anzu said smiling, she walked back out of the stable and back to the front of the house.

"Anzu, Pharaoh is going to announce something from the top of the Pyramid walls." Anzu's neighbor, Miho called. "Its going to happen something today. Better get Ishnew back around the house."

"Thanks, Miho." Anzu said wiping sweat from her forehead. "Ishnew, come on buddy." she called.

Ishnew ran out from around the side of the house to his sister. "What, Anzu?"

"Get in the house. Pharaoh is going to announce something, god above only knows what it is." Anzu said.

"Okay, sis..." Ishnew sighed and walked back into the house, by the way he was acting, if there was a door he would have slammed it behind him.

"I wonder what it is this time." Miho said thoughtfully, she leaned on the small wooden fence that separated her land from Anzu's.

"It could be anything." Anzu said with a sigh.

"Are you ready yet, Pharaoh?" Ryou asked from outside Yami's bedroom chamber. "The people are waiting, they are all outside."

"Really?" Yami asked amused. "I don't see why they would be so thrilled that I will be telling them taxes will be raised."

"Well they are all out there." Ryou said fumbling with his robe.

Yami sighed and put on his golden headdress and walked out of this chamber, he looked at Ryou. "Lets do this then..."

"Look, its Seto Kaiba, the high priest." Miho said looking up at the wall. "I guess Yami is coming out so everyone can see him this time."

"People, listen up!" Seto yelled. "Your Pharaoh would like to deliver a message to you in person."

"Here he comes..." Miho said.

All the people watched as Pharaoh Yami walked out on the balcony in the side of the wall. 'Wow.' Anzu thought. 'He can't be much older than I am....'

"My fellow citizens." Yami started, he looked down at everybody, his eyes skimmed across Anzu a couple of times. "I'm sorry to announce that taxes will be raised."

Rage went through everyone's bodies, but mostly through Anzu's. "Now I'm sorry, but its all we could do." Yami said loudly.

'All you could do?!' Anzu thought in rage. 'I need to do something....I need to speak for these people....for Ishnew....' Anzu walked out in the middle of the street, she looked up as Yami began to walk back. "Don't you go anywhere Pharaoh!" she screamed. The streets became quiet, and everyone looked at Anzu.

Yami stopped and turned around, he looked down on the street, and at Anzu. "You have something to say?" he asked, daring Anzu to say more.

"Yes, I do." Anzu said. "The last thing these people needs is higher taxes. What the hell are you thinking?" Yami glared at Anzu, but it never scared her. "Answer me Pharaoh!"

Yami never said anything, he just looked at Anzu. "I can barely keep my farm going!" Anzu continued. "I have NO food to feed my little brother! And I don't have very much to supply you!" Anzu began to tremble with rage. "My family was bad enough before you sent out your guard to kill my parents! Now that they are gone, everything has took a turn for the worst!"

"Okay hold it!" Yami leaned over the side of the balcony. "I never sent anyone out to kill anybody! As far as I'm concerned, you supply me perfectly."

"That's not what they said!" Anzu screamed. "I don't care what anyone else does, I'm NOT paying your taxes!"

Yami didn't know weather or not to be mad at this girl, or admire her for her bravery of telling him this. "You have a brazen tongue, girl." he said. "It can get you killed some day."

"So you are going to do to me like what you did to my parents?" Anzu asked.

"I already told you! I never sent anyone out!"

"But they came! They came saying that you told them to do this!" Anzu pointed to her half beaten down house.

"Want me to get the guards out to arrest her?" Seto asked Yami.

"No." Yami said. "Let her be." Yami walked back.

Seto nodded to the guards, telling them to go and get Anzu. They dragged her into the Pyramid walls, and lead her down into the jail.

"Let me out!" Anzu shrieked, she kicked at the guards as they chained her wrists to the stone walls. "AHHHHH!"

One of the guards hit her in the face, making blood drip from her mouth. "That was for Pharaoh Yami." he said as they walked away, locking the jail sell behind them.

Anzu rattled at the chains that was on her wrists, she stumbled to her feet and looked out through the bars of the sell.

"You spoke up for yourself too?" a voice asked.

"Huh?" Anzu looked over tin other sell next to hers, a boy with blonde hair looked over at her, his eyes were heavy, and black with bruises. "I know you...your Katsuya Jounouchi! The guy who told Pharaoh off about crop sales..."

"Call me Jou." Jou said with a weak smile. "Yeah, I am. But it isn't the Pharaoh who ordered all this, its Kaiba."

"The high priest?" Anzu asked. "Are you sure?"

"Yes. I am." Jou said. "So, what did you do?"

"Pharaoh raised taxes." Anzu said.

"Say no more." Jou said with a low chuckle.

"Ryou..." Yami said, he had a thoughtful look on his face. "Did you get any information on that girl?"

"Yes, Yami." Ryou said. "Her name is Anzu Mazaki, at this time she is living alone with her little brother Ishnew."

"And her parents?"

"Like she said sire, killed by your guards." Ryou said.

"That's strange...." Yami said. "I never ordered anyone to be killed, or arrested...ever."

"I know, Yami." Ryou said. "It is a very strange happening."

"Where is she now? I want to talk to her." Yami said.

"There's news that she was put tin the underground jail." Ryou said.

"What?" Yami walked quickly for the door. "I never ordered for that to happen...she's suppose to be left alone..."
