Chapter Two: Joey's crush

Sharlene walked out the shop and crossed a road. Her mobile rang.

"Sharlene speaking."

"Hi, sweetheart!"

Sharlene took a deep breath. "Who are you?"

"Honey, you don't need to ask me the same old question every time I call you. The only thing you need to know is that Yami doesn't remember you at all. He had forgotten you just like everyone else. You're wasting your time and energy!"

"Who are you?" Sharlene asked again, the same thing she'd asked for millions of times. "That's not important, sweetheart. The important thing is that I am the one had truly loved you and yet I still loves you. But, Yami, he never did love you nor he ever will. Can you see that he loves your new friend Tèa?"

Sharlene felt torn, she bit her lips.

"Sorry, honey. But I have to break it to you. Although I hate seeing you get hurt…"

"You are a disgusting freak!"

"Wow, that's a bit too much! You hurt me, Sharlene. I guess you still haven't got you memories back. Pity you don't believe everything I say…"

"DANG" Sharlene smashed the phone on the ground. Tears flooded her face.

"Hey, Sharlene. What's the matter?" Sharlene looked up, Joey stood in front of her looking worried. "Joey." Sharlene ran to him and buried her face into his shoulder. Joey patted at her gently and tried to comfort her.

`What just happened?' `Why did she smash her phone?' Thousands of questions jumped into Joey's head. Sharlene held Joey tighter; he hugged her back and tried to make her feel more secure. Not far across the road, Yami saw this. He felt jealous of Joey for the very first time. He was going to give back a small shopping bag which Sharlene had left in the shop.

"Ah…" He sighed and walked back to the shop.

Sharlene stopped crying and looked up at Joey.

"Feel better?" Joey let go of her.

Sharlene nodded and give him a faint smile. "Thanks Joey."

"Always at your services." That made Sharlene smile wider.

"So, what happened just now?" Joey asked.

"Well… Why not let me buy you a drink, Joey."

"I'd love to, but Yug and I are supposed to go to the game shop together."

"It's ok, next time then." Sharlene faked a smile.

"You…wanna come?" Joey invited.

Sharlene shook her head. "No, thanks."

Her voice was so sad that made Joey felt he shouldn't left her here.

"Oh, well, having an afternoon tea with a star isn't something happens everyday. I will just call Yugi and say I can't go. He will understand."

Sharlene looked at Joey, amused.

"Thank you Joey!" Sharlene said sincerely.

"You're welcome. I will be back in a minute." Joey rushed to the phone booth.

They sat in a corner in a posh french coffee shop, where nobody would take too much notice. Sharlene was playing her straw with the ice coffee. Joey had a big sip at his long black, and then he choked.

"The coffee is way too bitter to drink." He yelled. Everyone turned and looked at him. Sharlene put down her straw and pour some sugar into Joey's coffee.

"Joey, you forgot to put sugar in it."

"Did I?" Joey pointed at himself and felt like a totally idiot, and then he giggled.

Sharlene felt light and happy around him.

"So, Joey. What's been bothering you this morning?"

"Ah, actually, well, this…I…" Joey didn't know how to start, even though he'd only known Sharlene for one day but he trusted her like an old friend.

"Girl trouble?" Sharlene guessed.

Joey giggled. He blushed. "Well, yeah…This girl. I, I, I like her a lot. She is beautiful, She's pretty cool and all that, but…" Joey sighed.

"But what?" Sharlene was interested; she really wanted to know who Joey likes. It was important.

"Well, I think she still thinks that I'm an immature. I don't think we are going anywhere. You know that is somehting …" Joey's voice went smaller and smaller.

`Bingo!' Sharlene tried not to laugh. "Oh, so it's not Tèa!"

"What? Tèa and I are just good friends, besides, she likes Yug!" said Joey.

"Yeah, I can see that." Sharlene's smile fade a bit.

"So, that girl. I think you should tell her how you feel." Sharlene encouraged.

"No, no, no! Don't think that's a good idea, Sharlene!" Joey shook his head hard.

"Wow. Looks like she's pretty important to you. I wonder who she is. Too bad, too bad." "What's too bad?" Joey had no idea what Sharlene was going on about.

"Well, I know this girl who likes you."

"Really?!" Joey stared at Sharlene and thought `Ah-ha! All this Joey charm has worked.' "Who? Sharlene, please tell me!" Joey put on an appealing pose.

"Why do you want to know? You've already got a girl in your heart!" Sharlene pointed at his heart. She tried very hard not to laugh.

"Er…n...err" Joey didn't know what to say.

Sharlene smiled, slowly, she said: "Her name is Mia Valentine!"

"ZENG!" Joey fell off his chair.

`Gotch ya!' Sharlene was happy; she knew she did the right thing.

"Joey, looks like you are afraid of her or you really don't like her. Ah…I just have to tell her that you like someone else!" Sharlene said in a pitiful voice.

"No! No, don't!" Joey got up to his seat. "Wait a minute! Sharlene, you know Mia? And she told you that she likes me?" Joey sounded pretty serious.

Sharlene gazed at him for a long time. Joey looked at her, confused.

"Ah-ha! You've tricked me! Tèa or Tristan must have told you about Mia!" Joey was angry.

Sharlene beamed at him. "No, Joey. Nobody told me nothing!" Sharlene sipped her coffee. "Joey, tell me who is the girl you fancy, then I will answer your questions."

Joey scratched the back of his head. "It's Mia."

"Who?" Sharlene pretend that she heard nothing.

"It's Mia!" Joey said it out loud.

Sharlene couldn't take it anymore, she burst out laughing.

"Oh, Joey, you two are going to make a perfect couple!"

"Say what?" Joey was baffled.

"Sorry about that, Joey! Here have this." Sharlene passed him a purple note.

"What's this?"

"You just have to look at it for yourself!" Sharlene stood up. "By the way, it's nice talking to you Joey! Thanks a lot."

Before she left, Sharlene kissed him on the cheek. "See you later." Again, she said.

`Finally, something is going well.' Sharlene thought as she walked out the shop.

`Wow! Isn't that Sharlene and Joey?' Tristan just happened to see that scene while he was cruising pass by. `Lucky Joey!' Thought Tristan. `That was fast, man. How did he do that? Maybe I underestimate him before! I'd better ask him…Hehehe…"

"Ah… Phew! That was close!" Tristan stopped right in front of an old man.

"Young lad! Watch it, would you? When I was your age, I could drive a lot better than you!"

Tristan was embarrassed. He jumped off from his bike and bowed at him.

"Sorry, Sir. I really am."

"When I was young, I could just …"

Poor Tristan! Looked like that old man wanted to teach him a lesson…
