Ryuji Otogi held in his breath as the doctor turned to face him. His lips were pursed into a grim line, and his eyes reamined as cold as steel behind the black framed glasses perched at the tip of his hooked nose.

He let out a sigh, causing Ryuji to dig his fingers into the arms of the wheelchair he sat in out of impatience and agitation. All of this faded, however, when the coldness on the doctor's eyes slowly drifted into sadness.

“I'm very sorry, Mr. Otogi.” the doctor said in a voice that showed he felt pity. “But I'm afraid-”

“I won't be able to walk again?” Ryuji said, forcing his voice to remain calm. His nails probbed even deeper into the soft leather underneath his fingers.

“We tried to save your legs, but the damage was too severe.” the doctor proceeded to talk, quite calmly. “I'm sorry to give you this news, Mr. Otogi...”

“He isn't really sorry, is he?” Ryuji said slowly, looking up at his nurse, Freesia Demontay. Her gray eyes met Ryuji's green ones for a few seconds before she looked straight ahead again as she pushed the wheelchair through the corridors.

“He is so used to giving bad news I'm pretty sure he pretended to be sad.” Freesia replied, after a few seconds of silence. Ryuji let out an angry sigh and slammed his fist onto the wall besides him. Freesia had stopped, watching in worry as the raven-haired began swearing loudly.

“Why did this have to happen to me?” he groaned, burrying his face inbetween his hands. His shoulders shook slightly, and blood dripped from the knuckles of the hand he'd hit the wall with.

“Ryuji...”

Freesia's slender arms wrapped around his torso, hugging him in a protective way. Ryuji was surprised to feel tears on his cheek, but those tears weren't his. Freesia cried silently as she hugged him.

“I'm so sorry.” she whispered, her embrace tightening. Ryuji's eyes widened in shock, and he felt heat rise to his cheeks.

“So-sorry about what, Fress?” he stuttered.

“Only if I had been there in the operation to help,” Freesia sighed. “but I wasn't there, I was at my house instead and-”

“Freesia, listen to me... calm down and listen!” Ryuji said, wiping her tears from her pale cheeks with his fingers. “It wasn't your fault.”

“It... wasn't?” Freesia murmured, blinking a couple of times. Ryuji smiled warmly at her and nodded, his cheeks still a blazing red.

“Of course not. My legs weren't in a good condition, and even with you there I would've ended up being invalid.” Ryuji expalined. Freesia let out a cry and wrapped her arms around his neck, sobbing now with a new found happiness.

Ryuji felt his stomach do some sort of sumersault when she hugged him. Not the heat extended to his entire face, and he silently prayed for her not to see him blushing that way.

Freesia finally let go of him and then went back to pushing his wheelchair. Ryuji even began considering all this was a nightmare. The news he'd recieved, and that now he was confined to the wheelchair for ever. Although an extremely vivid image of a car coming straight towards him bruttally snapped him back to reality.

Unfortunately for him, this wasn't a nightmare...

Ryou Bakura sat on the edge of a pool, gazing at his feet absently as they moved underneath the warm waters. He sighed heavily when feeling his millenium ring vibrate a little against his naked chest.

This had been a peacefull week for him. His Yami hadn't come out of the Millenium Item to cause any more trouble for him.

Ryou gazed at his pale wrists that were crossed by scars. Once those scars were bleeding wounds that released all of his pain. And those wounds had gotten him into the psychiatrists office for more than six months of anti-depressive therapy.

Till this day, his depression didn't seem to have lifted the least. Sure, he did stop inflicting himself pain for some time. But the inner fights with Yami continued without the least interruption.

Bakura raised his eyes slowly from the water when feeling a hand being gently lain on his shoulder. Katsuya Jounouchi gave him a goofy smile, water dripping from his hair and body.

“Hey, Bakura.” he said and plopped down next to him. “You're missing all the fun, ya know?”

“Yes, I know.” Bakura forced a small smile and nodded, then he frowned when his eyes returned to the waters. Katsuya watched him nervously as Bakura wrapped a hand around his wrist, squeezing it a little each time.

For too long, being with no pain was unbearable now.

“Bakura, stop!” Katsuya said, forcing his hand apart from his wrist.

“I have... to feel it...” Bakura let out a low moan of need and tried to wrench his hand from Katsuya's grip. “Let me go, Katsuya! Please!”

“Yuugi, he's trying to do it again!” Katsuya yelled. In less than a second Bakura was pinned against the grass by Hiroto Honda, Yuugi Mutou and Katsuya.

“Bakura, control yourself!” Hiroto said, trying to hold down Bakura's arm with a tremendous effort.

“You have to beat you desire for pain!” Yuugi yelled, struggling against Bakura's squirming legs.

“No, let me go! Fuck! Let me go!” Bakura screamed and faught harder against his captors. With a violent burst of strength he freed himself from their grasp and fled to the bathroom, locking the door behind himself.

Bakura searched desperately around for something with a sharp edge. Anything sounded great at the moment. He swept off the contents from the bathtub, and rummaged through every corner of the bathroom until he found it.

“A razor blade!” he said, looking at it as if it were the most prized object on earth. He gripped it tightly in his left hand and allowed the blade to run over his skin, slicing it open. Blood dripped down from his wrist, his hand twitched in the enjoyable sensation pain.

Bakura let out a maniacal howl of laughter as he kept slicing his flesh deeply. Banging could be heard of the door.

“BAKURA!”

Yuugi's shout made Bakura snap back to reality, and he felt the pain. It wasn't enjoyable anymore.

`You're pathetic...' a voice inside Bakura's head said spitefully. That voice was so familiar.

“Yami...” Bakura sobbed as hot tears rolled down his cheeks and onto the tile floor to meet with the blood.

`Disgusting, pathetic little baby.' Yami's voice said insistantly. Bakura began crying even harder, angry at Yami, and angry at himself.

He was weak, and Yami was playing mind tricks with him just to make him suffer. How could he allow it so easily?
