Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ The Gamete Experience ❯ Chapter 1
Author's Note: I suppose they could use other people's kids. But Ajina and Uryo are a bit unorthodox. >.>;;; That, and they're idiots. XD I really didn't want this chapter to turn out so short, but it was being stubborn and just sort of decided, "Hey, I'm gonna stop here just to drive ya nuts!" So, apologies for shortness.
The Gamete Experience
Chapter One
"I wonder what's wrong," Anzu mused aloud as she and her friends stepped out of the elevator on the correct floor. "It's not like Kaiba to just call us all over so suddenly."
"I don't know," Yugi admitted somberly. "It was strange, though... I could've sworn that I heard a baby crying on his end of the line."
"What?"
Yugi didn't get a chance to answer Jounouchi, but it became clear that he wouldn't have to once they entered Kaiba's office. There was the young businessman, running back and forth across the room between a bunch of babies who seemed to find it amusing to make him do this, stopping the moment he reached them just to grin as the next demonic child picked up where the last left off.
"Well, don't just stand there! Make them stop!" Kaiba half-demanded, half-pleaded. He couldn't take the pressure or the crying much longer.
Once every infant was in someone's arms, the wailing finally died down and Kaiba could explain to the others exactly what Arashi had told him. Needless to say, they were doubtful of both the story and Kaiba's sanity.
"Cloning? Why the hell does KaibaCorp support that kind of thing?" Honda asked.
Kaiba shook his head. "We don't any more, but we used to." He quickly felt the need to change the subject off of his company and onto a much more urgent matter. "So what do we do about these? I don't have the time to raise a kid, let alone eight!"
"Calm down, Kaiba," Yugi tried to reassure him. "None of us asked for this, but we have to deal with it as best we can."
Bakura took this moment to jump in. "There is no way that I am going to take care of any of these brats," he started to say, but began twitching slightly when he saw that the girl Yami was holding was shooting a scowl his way. "Make her stop doing that, Pharaoh!"
"You make her stop!" This immediately instigated a glaring competition between the two.
"Well, I think we figured out who at least one of them belongs to," Anzu sighed. This was going to take a while.
* * *
It certainly took long enough, but the teenagers were finally able to assume which pairings the infants were the results of. Most of them weren't the least bit pleased when they discovered that the geniuses behind this little experiment had combined their DNA instead of making identical clones of the "parents," making matters worse for some of them by the fact that they would have to share responsibility without killing one another.
Anzu, however, chose to take the maternal approach. "I think it would be best if we named them instead of just referring to them as 'the brats.'" Bakura stuck his tongue out at this, which Anzu purposefully ignored. "And you have to agree on it," she said stressing the point to persuade them to get along.
All eyes fell instantly on the girl who had yet to release Bakura from her intense gaze. "Demon child," Bakura hissed.
"She had to get it from somewhere," Jounouchi whispered to Honda, and the two erupted into laughter that quickly died as Bakura shifted his glare to them.
Yami, who had been watching the girl thoughtfully, spoke up. "She must have the power of the Shadow Games in her blood... so we should name her Kurasa." Bakura shrugged, since he obviously didn't care.
At that moment one of the other girls began wailing again. Honda, who was holding her, only grimaced since he had no means of covering his ears. "If she keeps this up I'm going to go deaf!" When he said this, the girl stopped and smiled up at him brightly.
"It will probably only get worse at night," Yugi said, which caused Honda to develop a slight twitch. "Yonaki, then?" Honda nodded, though not very enthusiastically.
"Two down, six to go," Jounouchi sighed, yelping suddenly when the boy he was holding grabbed his hair, gurgling something that vaguely resembled 'loser' and laughing. "Keep him away from me!" he yelled and passed the child off to Seto, who gave Jounouchi an accusing look.
"It's not my fault he's energetic."
"Grr..." The blonde would have lunged at Kaiba, had he not been holding the little bundle of joy. "Fine, then he'll be Reiko." Jounouchi diverted his attention to the girl in Ryou's arms, who instantly gave him 'the eyes.'
At least one of my spawn isn't out to get me, he thought before inquiring, "Any ideas?"
"Um..." Ryou looked down at the girl, who then gave 'the eyes' to him. "Adeyaka? She does seems pretty good at that," he said sheepishly.
A scream caught everyone's attention and all eyes shifted back to Bakura. He was screaming bloody murder as the other child Honda had been holding, the boy, had attached himself to Bakura's hair and refused to let go. "Get him off, NOW!"
"I can't if you don't hold still!" Honda yelled back in annoyance, trying to pry the child from the thief's head. He suddenly remembered a trick that he'd seen before. "Do you have some keys or anything?" Still screaming, Bakura dug around in his pocket and procured a pair of dice, handing them over. Honda shrugged and figured they would do. He held them in front of the baby's face, clicking them together in an attempt to attract his attention. The little boy's face lit up as he released Bakura's hair and reached out for the dice excitedly.
"Evil... my spawn are both evil..." Bakura moaned, rubbing his head mournfully and hoping no permanent damage had been caused.
Honda was tempted to ask how he couldn't have expected that but opted against it. Instead, he offered a name while eyeing the boy's interest in the dice. "Bakuchi?" Receiving nothing but another moan, he took it as an affirmative.
Yami had been ignoring Bakura's dilemma, focusing on the boy he was holding. Even though it wasn't so obvious in this child as it was in his daughter, Yami could sense some of the Shadow Realm's power in him, as well as sense the boy's awareness of this fact. Not having said anything in a while, his silence made Kaiba a bit curious of his thoughts. "What's on your mind?"
The former Pharaoh was slightly startled, having been so wrapped up in his internal musings, but replied with a single word. "Eichi." Seto was a bit surprised by the resolve in Yami's voice and made no argument against his decision.
Anzu looked around the room, pleased that the naming process had gone quite smoothly aside from Bakura's little problems, then down at the girl and boy she was holding. "Is Miyuki alright with you, Ryou?" The white-haired boy nodded, relieved for a reason to pry himself away from 'the eyes,' a skill which Adeyaka was apparently trying to perfect. "And what about Jun, Yugi?"
Yugi nodded also, unable to do much else other than flinch as Yonaki chose to start screaming in his ear.
"This is going to be interesting..." Seto sighed. He was ready for the nightmare to end.
