Selena woke up, covered in cold sweat. "Well, at least I'm going to Domino," Selena thought bitterly. "Seto Kaiba, rolling in money, while mom and I had nothing." Her mother had passed away shortly after she had begged Selena to got to Domino.

"Aargh!" Selena cried in frustration. Several heads turned toward her. Selena didn't care. She wanted her mom back. Despite herself, she felt her eyes watering up.

"Hey," a voice said cautiously. "You okay?"

Selena lifted up her head to see a spiky haired teen standing in front of her. Black hair with red tips and blond bangs. Lavender eyes.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Selena said, impatiently brushing away her tears. The boy sat down in the seat across from her.

"I'm Yugi," he said cautiously. "Yugi Mutou."

"Selena," Selena replied shortly.

"Uh, well.. nice to meet you," Yugi said. He peered closely at her. "You sure you're okay?"

Selena's mother had taught her to be wary around strangers. But when she opened her mouth to tell him that she was fine, she found herself pouring out her heart to this complete stranger. Somebody who she didn't know was listening to her talk about her mother's death and having to go to Domino to stay with a cousin that she'd never seen before. But for some reason, she felt like she could trust him.

"Who is this cousin that you're going to stay with?" Yugi asked patiently.

"Seto Kaiba."

"Seto Kaiba?" Yugi asked. "I thought he didn't have any relatives. I mean besides his brother Mokuba."

"You know him?"

"Yeah. I live in Domino too."

"You two friends?"

"No, not exactly."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, Kaiba hates me. I beat him in a duel once, and he's hated me ever since."

"You duel?" Selena asked excitedly.

"Yeah. Do you?"

Selena blushed. "No. I always wanted to learn, but I never did."

"You have your own deck?"

"Yeah," Selena said, fingering her deck. It was her mother's. Her mother's most treasured possession.

"I thought you said that you didn't duel."

"It was my mom's," Selena said, blushing.

"Oh." The two of them sat in silence for a while. Selena wanted to say something to Yugi, but she just couldn't say anything. There was a lump in her throat.

It was Yugi that broke the silence. "What's your favorite card?"

"The Dark Magician Girl."

Yugi smiled. "Mine's the Dark Magician."

"Our card would be a good pair, " Selena joked. They both laughed.

"It's good to laugh again," Selena thought to herself.

She looked closely at Yugi. He looked somewhat familiar… like she had seen him somewhere before. And that thing around his neck… she was sure that she had seen that somewhere before.

Her dad had been an archeologist in Egypt. When he was still alive, he would show her pictures of carvings that he had found. Some of them looked like Duel Monsters. After all, her father was also a duelist. He could teach her to duel. It was her father that had given her the Dark Magician Girl.

But one day, her father had called home on an expedition in Egypt. He said that he had met somebody there that knew a lot about what he was researching, the Pharaoh Bak um Fal. [Meira: I think that's spelled right…] Also going by the name of Atemu. His name was Marik Ishtar. Said that he had met him in the marketplace. Even though Marik was a little boy, he had seemed to know a lot about the Pharaoh and the Ancient Scriptures.

A few days after that, her father came home. He said that he had seen a picture of the Pharaoh and his two biggest rivals, the Tomb Robber and the High Priest.

Selena had loved to look at that picture. It depicted an ancient time of Egypt. Back then, she had wanted to grow up to become an archeologist, just like her father.

But on his next expedition, the tomb he was exploring collapsed, taking her father with it. Selena had only been four years old.

Selena shook her head. Now wasn't the time to think about that. She looked at Yugi again. He still looked familiar, somehow. And so did that thing around his neck. The thing with the Eye of Ra on it.

But what was it?

Meira: This is a bad chapter, I know. But please be tactful! *Looks at Kaiba*

Kaiba: Hn.

Hiei: That's my line!

GLIB: How did you get here? Also, is Kurama with you?

Meira: FOR THE LAST FRIGGIN' TIME! THIS IS A YU-GI-OH! FANFIC!!!

Hiei: *cowers in fear then jumps through portal*

GLIB: I didn't get to see Kurama...

Meira: o.O Please Read and Review.

Yami: What was with the meeting Marik thing?

Meira: Um… just to fix a wrong that I made in an earlier chapter. And I revised all the chapters, so get used to it.

Yami: Oh.
