Title: The Irony of Girls
Author: Vapid Breath
I'll never figure out the female gender. That's not a promise; it's a fact. No man will ever figure out girls.
Téa is a girl. If the feminine facial features, protruding chest, and other body parts didn't clue you in, then the fact that I can't figure her out should.
Whenever we go out, she'll order a salad and water with a lemon. She keeps count of each intake of calories and burns the same number. Her idea of a snack is an apple or carrot. She rarely eats junk food and nags when I do.
She doesn't like flowers. At least, that's the impression I got. Every plant someone has given her has died within a day, or two if she's lucky. Sure she thinks they're pretty, but their smell she dislikes.
Another thing about Téa is that she always smiles. No matter the joke I tell she'll laugh and smile. She smiles when she watches us duel, when Joey makes a fool of himself, or when she's made a point. Well, when the last one happens it's more of smirk. She always creates a dazzling smile when she's happy.
And those are the reasons I can't figure her out.
Here we were, sitting on her off blue couch. Trails of tears fell from her warming, blue eyes. In on of her thin hands, she clutched a red, heart-shaped box filled with chocolate covered peanut butter, raisins, nuts, and creams. In the other hand she held the bouquet of red roses against her chest.
“Oh, Tristan. You're so sweet.” She threw herself against me in a bone-breaking hug, forgetting about the gifts between us.
Her crying meant that she was happy with flowers that would have a short life and chocolate that would ruin her perfect hips. I laughed to myself.
Sometimes I just don't get girls.
