Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ The Math ❯ Part I ( Chapter 1 )
Author's Notes: I spent several hours today working on this piece. I hope it turned out well. Reviews would be much appreciated.
Disclaimer: The characters associated with Yu-Gi-Oh! are the intellectual property of Kazuki Takahashi. The lyrics from the song, The Math, are the intellectual property of Hilary Duff. However, the sequence of monologue, dialogue, and plot is the intellectual property of Lightning Sage.
Stylistic Notes: The lyrics from Hilary Duff's song, The Math, are displayed in bold italics. I began the piece with the full lyrics of the song. In the second part, I inserted pieces of the song in between the sections of prose. Also, the style of this piece is more informal than ones I've written in the past. Since Joey has such an informal speaking style, I'd imagine that his way of thinking is less formal (especially in comparison to Kaiba's). In this piece, Joey tells the story as if he were speaking to the reader.
Warnings: Some OOCness, mostly on Joey's part. I tried to keep both Joey and Seto in character as much as possible. I believe I portrayed Joey in this piece as a lot more intelligent as 4Kids! Entertainment portrays him.

The Math
-
Part I
-
You're always trying to figure out
What I am all about
If you don't know what the answer is,
Then just shut up and kiss
-
It shouldn't take forever
To put it all together
-
CHORUS:
If you can't do the math
Then get out of the equation
I am calling you back
This is star sixty-nine
Is it a minus or a plus?
Does enough equal enough?
If you can't do the math
Then nothing adds up
Tell me why I'm here
-
Sure I want someone to understand--
But I don't need the stress
I'm not about being analyzed
Like it's some kind of test
-
Don't have to be a genius
To figure what's between us
-
CHORUS
-
You can spend your whole life analyzing,
Justifying, quantifying, and dividing
'Til there's nothing left anymore.
Why don't you just close your eyes
And kiss my lips and let it go
Just let it flow
It's what I'm waiting for
-
Don't have to be a genius
To figure what's between us
-
CHORUS 2x

Joey's Point of View
I've always known Kaiba has had a thing for me. And honestly, I'm surprised that no one else has figured it out yet. Well, actually, I think Yami Yugi already figured it out, but even Yugi remains completely oblivious. Or in denial. I'm not sure which.
And considering I'm one of three people who happen to know that Mr. Big Bad CEO is gay, I could seriously damage the Great Seto Kaiba's reputation. Though sometimes I wonder if even Kaiba knows that he's gay--he sure as hell doesn't act it. The tight leather pants aren't exactly the best indication. After all, not all gay people wear tight leather pants.
How do I know this?
Well, I don't where leather pants. I know Yami Yugi wears them, but I'm not really sure what his preference is, anyway.
And yes, what I just implied is true. I am gay. And I have the hots for Kaiba.
Guess that explains why I wouldn't want to wreck Kaiba's reputation, huh?
But the whole situation's much more complicated than that. Kaiba and I constantly fight, constantly get on each other's nerves. I guess that's the closest we've come to flirting. We act like we hate each other, but we both know it's just a game. It's our way of interacting without letting other people know our true feelings for each other.
For a while, I started to doubt that Kaiba liked me, and began to believe that he really did hate me. That would explain why he hasn't asked me out, or made any romantic advances on me. But then Yami Yugi pulled me aside one day and told me not to give into my doubts. I trust Yami Yugi and his judgment. He always seems to know things, see things more clearly.
I've concluded, based on Kaiba's behavior and Yami Yugi's advice, that Kaiba is waiting to make a move on me. For some reason, he's not ready for me, not quite ready for a relationship.
When it comes to Kaiba, every move is calculated. Every action is made with utmost precision. Every time Kaiba picks a fight with me, he does it knowing I'll react a certain way. He does it knowing he could learn something new, obtain new information. He then uses that information for future reference.
It's too bad Kaiba doesn't know that I've been doing the same thing all along. That I've been analyzing his every move.
Or maybe he does know. Either way, I'm sick of all this crap. I don't want to have to wait all my life for him to make the first move.
And that's why I've cooked up a plan of my own.
Then, Kaiba will get a taste of his own medicine.

Author's Notes: Well, I know that this part was very short, but I've already got the second part written out, and it's about three times the length of this chapter. I'll type it up as soon as I can and post it.
Please Review and tell me what you think so far! I'm grateful for comments and suggestions.
