Chapter 1 - Busy Day

Serenity brushed out her long hair sighing for the fith time in that hour. She had a long night watching Katie, Chris and Jake Wheeler. They were a handful sometimes and it took a lot out of her at times to watch the children of Joey and Mai. They certainly had traits of both their parents in them. She missed the times when they were teens and could just hang out but now they were all older and held steady jobs. Her work as a secretary for Seto Kaiba certainly kept her busy, and much to her brothers displeasure yet he was glad, Kaiba treated Serenity with the utmost respect.

It had been a year to that day when Kaiba and Tea got married. Now they had a five month old daughter named Alexandra Kaiba. She was adorable. She had the biggest blue eyes Serenity had ever seen and when she was angry had a scowl like her father. She was a darling when happy though. Her face reminded Serenity of Tea. Usually she or Yugi would be the one to watch the small chibi when Kaiba had to work and Tea had to help him.

Her cell phone rang startling her from her thoughts.

"Moshi moshi, what can I do for you?" Serenity asked into the phone.

"This is Mai. Could you come and watch Chris and Jake? I'm afraid Joey and Katie have caught something and I have to drive them to the doctors," Mai sighed as Serenity heard two loud sneezes and laughed.

"Sorry Mai. I can't, I'm just about to leave for work."

"Which one? The day care or Kaiba's office work?" Mai asked. There was a sound of two people complaining and Serenity couldn't help but laugh once again.

"Those two sound cheerful and it's the office work." That was Serenity's other job. She worked for the daycare nearby and enjoyed it very much. She was now a student teacher. She worked two jobs to pay off her university and pay the bills and put food in the house. She lived in an apartment close to Tristan Taylor.

"It's okay. I'll call Yugi. I hope he's not busy. Poor dear, lost his grandfather a week ago."

"Yugi always helps. If nesseccary I'll ask Kaiba if I can watch the kids. I'm sure he'll understand, normally I don't get time off work so I'm not sure. I do feel sorry for Yugi. He hasn't been his cheerful self but who can blame him? I'd be upset too. I heard he's having problems arranging the funeral, complications."

"I'm sure he'll get through it. Yami helps him out. Anyway...now that the spirit has his own body he helps with the income. He and Ishizu are doing well though. Well...I better let you go. Joey and Katie won't stop moaning about how sick they are."

"Ja ne Mai," Serenity said into the phone.

"Ja ne." Serenity shut her cell phone and put her hair up into a tight french braid. Carefully she slipped on her cotton powder blue buisness coat and stood up. She also wore a white blouse with a V cut at the base of the neck and a light blue skirt that fell to her knees and high heeled shoes with straps that tied around her thin graceful ankles. She had a nice figure and had matured quite a bit. She had her own apartment.

She took her car keys off the vanity and made her way to the parking lot. She got into her red chevy and pulled her seat belt on. She turned the key in the engine and took off down the road. Turning on the radio she listened to the weather report.

It will be a hot day today ranging from 80 to 95 degrees celcious. Hope no one is wearing black today. A ten percent chance of rain. Now for your favorite music of the day...

Serenity turned the station muttering "Stupid weather man." Sure enough sprinkles of rain showed on the windshield. Serenity turned on the wind shield wipers and continued to drive to the office building. Her cell phone rang again. She searched her purse and found the phone. Opening it with some difficulty she said, "Moshi moshi."

"Hi Serenity."

"Tristan," Serenity had a sigh in her voice but he didn't notice.

"How would you like to go for dinner tonight?" he asked sounding cheerful. Too cheerful.

Must think of an excuse not to go! Must think! "I can't. I have to work late. I'm terribly sorry." Serenity put as much disapointment as she could into her voice.

"Oh that's okay. Maybe another time," Tristan still sounded cheerful.

"I guess," Sereinty said, "I have to go now." Serenity hung up the phone with a sigh. Honestly. Her phone rang again. Come on! Can't I go through one day without people calling me?! "Moshi moshi," a slight agitation in her voice.

"Did I disturb you?" Dukes voice asked her.

"No. I've just had so many calls today. Sorry to sound so ticked off."

"It's okay." Serenity stopped at a red light.

"How are you and Rick doing?" Serenity asked cheerfully. The light turned green signaling she could turn left.

"Great. Let me guess, Tristan asked you out again?"

"How did you know?"

"You always sound annoyed after he calls," Duke knew her well.

"I guess I do. I have to go. I'm nearing Kaiba Corp. Call me around...say...six tonight?"

"Gottcha! Talk to you then."

"Okay. Bye." Serenity wanted to turn her cellphone off but was waiting for a certain call. She entered the elevator that would take her to Kaiba's office. Once there she put her brief case on her desk and saw Tea walk in after her with 5 month old Alexandria.

"Oh hi Serenity. Did you just get here?" Tea asked with a smile.

"Yes. Hello sweetie..." she said to the chibi. The baby smiled and gigled in response.

"You're a wonder with kids arn't you?" Tea asked, "Is Seto busy?"

"I think he's in a meeting right now. You can sit here if you want. How is Alexandria today?" Serenity asked.

"She got over that nasty cold last night. Vomet all over. Kaiba took care of her while I cleaned up." Tea sighed, she was really tired.

"Don't you have maids?" Serenity asked.

"Yes...but they refused to clean it up, even after I promised to help them. So I had to juggle my little tenshi and cleaning. That's what I'm here to talk to Seto about," Tea replied.

"Oh. I see. While good luck. He's not going to be in a good mood after that meeting," Serenity informed.

"Oh don't worry, Alexandria always cheers him up. "Isn't that right my little tenshi?" the child giggled in her arms.

"Quite a cuttie isn't she?" Serenity went back to her work.

After six hours at her desk drinking coffee and typing up letters she was ready to go home and take a nice hot bath to relax her aching muscles. She gathered her items together at 8 pm and left when the other secretary came in.

"Night Kareen."

"Night Serenity," Kareen replied and began to do more work. Serenity got into her car and headed for home. After a nice bath and dinner Serenity seated herself on her red couch and turned on the TV.

Once again Yugi Motou has won yet another tournament. Now a millionare who has his own business he is the ideal business man and second richest man next to Seto Kaiba seen in a picture holding his 3 month old daughter and his wife in his arms.

Serenity changed the channel to see The Amazing Race (A/N: Which I do not own!) on. She heard her phone ring and went to go get it. She was about ready to throw the phone out the window.

"Moshi moshi."

"Serenity?"

"Yugi! How are you?"

"Better. Would you like to go out for coffee tomorrow? The 2nd Cup is supposed to be a great place to get coffee." Yugi didn't sound okay and Serenity fgiured he needed someone right now other than Yami.

"Sure. How about 8 am? I'm free than. Day off from both jobs. Did you hear, Joey and Katie are sick."

"I heard. Poor Joey. Poor Katie, she eats more than Joey yet doesn't gain any weight." Both laughed.

"I suppose. Anyway...see you tomorrow. Ja ne Yugi."

"Ja ne." Both hung up and Serenity headed for bed. She fell asleep ameadiatly.

Her alarm clock woke her up at 6:30 am.

"Ugh..." Serenity opened her eyes, "Why do I always set it so early?" getting up she headed for her closet and pulled out a pink v-neck see through top with flared sleaves and a red capris pants she put a black tank top under the pink one. Why do I get up so early? Why? Serenity closed her eyes and listened to the sound of eggs cooking on the stove. She had to eat something at least.

After breakfast she brushed her hair and let it hang full length which was to her butt now. 7:45 am came and her apartment buzzer buzzed. She went to the buzzer and pressed the button to talk. "Hello?"

"Serenity. It's me. Yugi." Serenity let him in and soon he was at her door. She opened the door when she heard a timid knock. She looked him up and down. He was blushing, wearing a black shirt, full sleaved, and blue pants. He still dawned the Millennium Puzzle. His hair was still tri-coloured and spiked up and the golden bangs still hung on his face. His eyes were still that inocent purple but also held sadness.

"Yugi you ready to go?" Serenity asked, "Nice to see you. We haven't gone out for coffee in awhile. What have you been up to other than your busy work life?"

"I'll tell you at coffee. First I need to find my car. It's imposible with all these cars!" Yugi exclaimed. Yugi had matured quite a bit and he grew! Serenity laughed pointing to the black convertable in front of her. "Oh. Whoops," Yugi laughed too as they got into the car.

The ride to the coffee shop was filled with music and oddly enough nervousness from both people occupying the car. So to break the 'silence' Serenity spoke up.

"So...how did you handle Jake and Chris?"

"They were a handful as usual," Yugi sighed, "When I got home I fell asleep on my couch. I went to my bedroom this morning...let's just say...I have scars." Yugi laughed a little causing Serenity to crack a laugh. Soon they were in hysterical laughter drawing attention to themselves but they didn't care. They were enjoying themselves.

The coffee shop was just as crowded as ever. Yugi and Serenity somehow found a seat and waited to get their orders taken. Finally after three hours they were served and given their coffees and sandwiches. Yugi mummered that it was the worst service he ever had. Serenity only laughed as they ate and drank. She and Yugi did this a lot and had become best friends. She could tell him anything and he could tell her anything.

"You know..." Yugi said changing the subject, "I miss my grandfather. It's so completly differen't. It's kind of scary really. I'm glad I have friends who care about me," Yugi took a sip of his coffee thoughtfully.

"I'm glad you think that," Serenity replied, "Hey!"

"Hey what?"

"Joey and Mai invited me over for dinner, would you like to join me as a friend?" Serenity asked.

"I'm not sure."

"Yugi you can't eat pizza all the time. It's not healthy and Joey's a great cook. For Ra's sake! Joey's a great chef and owns his own restaraunt, mind you he's sick so don't mind him or Katie."

"I geuss...since you invited me. Want me to drive you home?" Yugi asked, "What am I saying? We took my car!" Yugi chickled causing Serenity to chuckle.

After dropping Serenity off Yugi headed home. Serenity took her time to get ready for bed. Her cheeks were still blushing from the little coffee shop 'date' today. Serenity was always interested in Yugi, maybe now it was more than just friends. She still wasn't sure and would have to wait to see.
