Alister stared at Seto's visible, blissful skip to his stride. “You were quite taken with that human, weren't you Seto?”
“Huh? What gave you that idea?” Seto asked briskly.
“Oh please, Seto. I can see it on your face and in the way you walk.” Alister leaned against Seto's shoulder as they walked along the sidewalk. “I have this idea that I know you won't want to pass up.” He snatched a red rose from a bouquet of multicolored roses that was hidden behind a young man about to announce his undying love to the woman of his dreams. “Do you want to know what it is?”
Seto sighed. Why is it that every time he turned around, Alister came up with a challenge? The auburn demon never won a match against his brother and he probably never would. However, it was nice to have a little fun now and then. “Fine,” he grunted. “What is it?”
There was a satisfied squeak from Seto's brother and then the spoken challenge. “I want to see which one of us will fall in love with the Joey Wheeler first. The one that falls in love loses.”
“Interesting challenge, brother,” Seto complimented and bowed his head in respect. “What's the prize for the winner?” He paused in his stride for a moment, feeling an approaching, familiar presence. He smirked deviously.
Alister also felt the disturbance, but chose to ignore it as he answered his companion's question. “How about he gets to choose the next bed partner for two years?”
“Deal!” Seto approved. Just as soon as he had spoken the word, a dark figure, dressed in a black cloak appeared.
“Deal?” The figure asked with amusement. “Did someone just give up their soul?” He turned his head left and right, staring at the two demons. “However, I've never known demons to have souls.”
Alister sneered. “Duke Devlin. Reaped any good essences lately?”
Duke folded his hood back and smiled broadly. “Yes. There were quite a few actually. Most of them were from that plane crash that the two demons of chaos caused.” He chuckled to the memory of them sneaking off with an unlucky, white haired teen. He was presumably dead, but who knew with those two. They probably made a bargain to the little whelp to keep his soul intact.
“You mean Marik and Bakura?” Seto asked. He despised those two intensely. Every time they were around creating havoc in the same place as Alister and he, they somehow always ended up in the middle of it. “They're not with you are they?”
Duke shook his head. “Of course not! What do you take me for? Those two do a good job of keeping each other company and then some.” He sighed with disgust. “You won't even catch me dead with them two.”
“Well that should be simple.” Alister smiled as he wrapped his arms around the reaper's waist from within his cloak. “You're already dead.” He placed his lips against Duke's neck, sucking and then licking it. “Still tender as always,” he breathed hotly against the other's flesh.
The reaper purred appreciatively. He noted the rose in Alister's hand as he pulled away. “So what's this `deal' you're talking about?” He turned to Seto, expecting more of a comprehensible response from him.
Seto smiled smugly. “We're playing a love game with a human. We're trying to see which one will fall in love first. Who ever falls in love loses.” He cleared his throat as he started to explain the rest of the information. “Who ever wins gets to choose the bed partner for two years.”
“Interesting, I must say,” Duke commented. “What about the loser?”
Alister and Seto exchanged glances and then stared at Duke. “I guess they end up with the human,” Alister responded.
“Do you want to join us?” Seto asked with an offering grin. “I think it'll be more fun with the three of us.”
Duke shook his head. “No thanks. I don't like playing with humans' emotions. I'd rather be the spectator.” He turned toward the same restaurant that Seto and Alister had just left. “And anyways, I have business to take care of.” He approached the building and peered into the window, noticing the old man that was lying face down on his table. “Some old dude had a heart attack because of what happened in the next booth over.”
Seto constrained an ear to ear grin from appearing on his face. He bowed his head as he hid the amused expression in his eyes. “Oh really?”
Alister snickered as he held his hand over his mouth. “How unfortunate.”
Duke quirked a quizzical eyebrow and shrugged it off. “Well, anyways, I'll see you guys later. I need to get back to work.” He entered the restaurant and dragged out the old, unyielding soul. “They always have to put up a fight,” Duke complained and started down the street.
Alister twirled the rose between his fingers like a top before pressing the bud against his lips, causing it to turn black and collapse into a pile of ashes on the cement. “How very unfortunate.” He giggled arrogantly as he wrapped his arm around Seto's. “Let's go home and think up ways of seducing the human, hm?”
Seto nodded. “Of course my dear friend.” They proudly walked along, excited about the beginning of tomorrow's awaiting game.
