Chapter 3
Kisara's Blue Eyes

The last thing she remembered was the dark priest, Akunadin, aiming a lethal blast at Setekh… She couldn't let that happen to him!. Set was the only one who had wanted to help or protect her!. Now she must do what she could to protect him!.
Quickly, arms outstretched, she leapt in front of Set… At once, something that looked like a flaming black arrow struck her heart and a searing pain shot through her body… She fell backwards and collapsed into a pair of familiar strong warm arms…
She looked up into the deep-set blue eyes of the young man she was growing to love… Tears rimmed his eyes and his face was twisted in a mixture of shock and grief…
Set held her closely, calling her name, pleading with her not to leave him… She wanted him not to cry or grieve for her… She wanted to tell him she loved him…
"Lord Set…" she whispered with her dying breath… and with the last of her strength she reached up to caress his handsome face… (1)

The next thing she knew, she was looking down on him… He was holding her in front of a stone tablet…
"Kisara... That destructive light also pierced my soul... The thing that pierces my heart, is the sadness... of losing my true light... Kisara, forgive me…The only thing that locked you up was the dungeon that is my heart…"
She smiled and tears of joy streamed down her face... Could this mean he loved her as she loved him?…
"You sparked the speck of light to my soul, which was slowly being eaten by darkness… That was not from the spirit that resides in you… Kisara… It was your own light that..."
"Lord Set!," she called out to him. Please, oh please, let him hear her!. "At least I can protect you with the light of my spirit!."
"Kisara!," came his voice…
Her smile widened with hope!. He had heard her!. (2)

All at once, the scene before her changed… Set was not mourning in front of a stone tablet, but laying nearly motionless, surrounded by darkness… The darkness seemed to be coming from Priest Akunadin, who stood above him, laughing cruelly and gloating about how he would make Set the next Per-aa, weather it was his will or not, and destroy Atem…
No! She could not let this happen!. She could not let Akunadin, and the darkness, take Set away!.
"Ki…sa…ra…" the barely conscious young man whispered in pain…
"Lord Set!," she called to him again…
To her relief, he slowly opened his eyes and looked at her…
"Ki… sa…ra…?" he exclaimed weakly…
She smiled warmly at him. "The darkness will not take you."
His eyes met hers… and briefly he smiled back…(3)

With a soft moan, she opened her eyes… The first thing she realized was that she was no longer wandering the destroyed, torn streets of the city, but laid down in a comfortable bed with pure linen and silk sheets and pillows… She was no longer in her dirty, ragged tunic, but in a simple linen robe…
"Where am I?…" she wondered as she gazed about the modest, but homey looking room… Bright morning sunlight and fresh country air streamed through the opened window… There were little alcoves and shelves about the room where various things like flower vases and tiny figurines of Khemetan Gods and Goddesses were kept… There were beautifully painted murals and boarders on the otherwise whitewashed walls…
It was then that her heart nearly stopped!. For asleep on a chair nearby was a familiar beloved figure whom she thought she would never see again!.
"Lord Set!," she brought a hand to her mouth to stifle a gasp of shock and relief… Then, slowly, she got herself out of bed and drew nearer to get a better look…
A wave of disappointment soon settled over her though… This young man who had fallen asleep on the chair and was now leaning slightly against the wall was not Set. He looked at least two or three years younger, and his frame, while just as lean, was less muscular, especially his arms... Not only that, but he wore strange non-Khemetan clothing and had only a single piece of jewelry, a pendant, hanging from his neck…
Still, his face looked so much like Set's that it nearly took her breath away… How could this be so?, she wondered…
She studied him closer…Asleep, and leaning against the wall with his arms crossed in a boyish way, he looked to be no more then a child… If he was not her Lord Set, then who was he?…
Just then, she noticed a lock of his chestnut brown hair fall softly across the bridge of his nose… Almost instinctively she reached out to brush it gently away from his closed eyes…
However, almost instantly, his eyes snapped open!.
"Uhh!?," he gasped, startled, jumping up from his chair.
She drew her hand away and stepped back. "Oh! I'm sorry!. I didn't mean to startle you!."
Quickly regaining his composure, Seto tilted his chin up in mild indignance. "Hmmph! You didn't," he said.
They looked at eachother and the two pairs of blue eyes met…
She bowed slightly… "I don't mean to impose, but could you please tell me where I am right now?…" She asked politely…
"Where you are?. Well, that's easy. You were brought out of Waset just the other day, when your fever began to break. Now, you're on this family's farm estate, and doing much better obviously."
"Oh, this where you live with your family?," she smiled.
He smiled back slightly. "Well, I guess you could call them my family... In a way… So, where's your family?," he asked. "We found you all alone on the streets back in Waset. I would have thought there'd be somebody looking for you to take you back home."
At this, she lowered her eyes and her smile dimmed… "No," she whispered sadly. "I… I have no family… I'm a wanderer…"
"Just like I was," Kaiba nodded to himself. "I thought so."
"I… I was looking for someone…" the white haired girl continued hesitantly…
"Oh? Who?." The young former CEO looked at her with interest.
She raised her eyes and studied him a moment… Then she sighed sadly… "A friend… but… I think he must have been killed in the disaster…"
"I'm sorry," the young man answered honestly… He knew what it had been like to have no family or friends left, and to have someone important taken from him…
"Thank you…" she replied softly…
For a moment, an awkward silence passed between them…
Finally, to break the tension, he decided he may as well introduce himself. "Anyway, I'm Seto," he spoke up. "Seto Kai… Uhh… I mean Nozomi," he corrected himself, remembering his wish to be called by his true surname.
The girl blinked, as if in surprise, but then she smiled. "Seto Nozomi. I'm pleased to meet you. It was you and your family that helped me back in Waset, wasn't it?."
"Yes," he nodded, matter of factly. "Some moron had the idiotic idea that you were his private property."
"I remember," she nodded, shifting her feet uncomfortably at the memory…
Seto shrugged. "So, we bailed you out, and here you are."
"Thank you, Seto," the white haired girl smiled at him, her wide blue eyes shining with gratitude. "You are so kind."
"Actually, he's quite a pain in the rear to tell you the truth," came a familiar mocking voice from the doorway…
They both turned to see Nephthys entering the room with a plate of honey cakes and fruit, and a glass of pomegranate juice…
"Anu, I thought I told you not to wake the poor girl up, She needs her sleep," The Lady of the House scolded, not unkindly.
Kaiba crossed his arms in indignance. "Hmmph! I didn't wake her up, Vixen!."
The young girl smiled at Nephthys. "He's right, my lady. I woke on my own, and Seto was kind enough to tell me what happened."
"I see," the Egyptian woman smiled back, handing the girl the breakfast tray, but she gave her a wink, telling her that she'd already known. "Well then, you don't have to call me "my lady". My name is Nephthys."
"Seto and Nephthys," she nodded as she sat on her bed and began to eat, as politely as she could for being so hungry. "Thank you for helping me."
The Lady of the House sat down beside her as she finished her juice. "You're very welcome, my dear." After all, she had once served the royals and the priesthood, the ones who inadvertently caused those disasters in Waset, so helping the victims was the least she could do to make up for that. "Now, I don't believe you've told us your name yet."
The girl smiled. "Ahh, my name. Well, my name is…"
"Kisara…" the young former CEO whispered…
At this, both women turned and looked at him in absolute shock!.
With a gasp, he put a hand to his forehead…
"How did you know her name, Seto?," Nephthys asked, then she turned to their new guest. "You didn't tell him, did you?."
Kisara shook her head. "No… I didn't…" But there was a sort of uneasiness in her manner…
"I… I don't know how I knew…" Seto muttered. "But… it just came to mind… right then…" his voice trailed off…
Nephthys and Kisara looked at eachother… Finally, The Lady of the House shrugged her shoulders.
"Ahh, well, no matter," she said as she rose from the bed. "We're honored to have you here, Kisara."
"Thank you," the silvery haired girl smiled shyly.
"However, Si-amun and Mutnodjmet would never forgive me if I let you stay here looking like this," she continued, gently taking Kisara's hand and pulling her up from the bed. "If you're up to it, now that you have a bit of food and drink in you, I'll take you to the bathhouse where you can wash and bring you a fresh change of clothes."
Kisara's eyes widened and she blinked. People usually didn't treat her this kindly… And the only person who had in a long time was probably gone now…
"Yes, please," she said gratefully. "That would be nice."
"I'll let Si, Mut and the others know you're awake now," Seto added. "They'll be glad to see you're alright."
**********
He was right about that. Everyone was glad to meet Kisara and to see that she was awake and feeling well… When Nephthys brought her downstairs Si and Mut both greeted her warmly. Asha, normally shy of strangers she was meeting for the first time, gave her a soft embrace and before long little Khu and Kiya were taking turns sitting on her lap, chatting away a mile a minute and exchanging hugs and kisses while Kuribo purred happily and nuzzled her ankles…
Then, after welcomes and introductions were through, Nephthys took Kisara to the bathhouse so they could both wash and freshen up before lunch…

"You are all so kind," the girl smiled as Nephthys helped her dry her hair. The Lady of the House had run a soothing herbal bath for her and had let her soak and wash for the appropriate amount of time before re-entering the bathhouse with a bundle of soft fluffy cotton towels and a robe.
Nephthys chuckled warmly. "Well, don't be to thankful, Kisara dear. I'm doing this for selfish reasons, you know," she joked.
"Selfish reasons?." She wasn't sure she understood.
"Yes, I'm helping you in the hopes that you won't think all Khemetans are like the ones who harmed you in Waset. It's to improve my own image."
Kisara laughed softly, and Nephthys finished drying her hair. Then, The Lady of the House took an ivory comb and began running it carefully through the girls long silvery white tresses.
"Don't worry," Kisara said. "I don't hate Khemetans…" Then her eyes grew sadder… After all, Set was Khemetan nobility… and he had done his best to protect and help her, even when others wouldn't…
"There you are," Nephthys announced once she'd finished her young guest's hair and applied the khol to her eyes. "Now all you need are some decent clothes."
Surprised, Kisara looked down at the comfortable cotton robe she'd been presented with after her bath. "Clothes?… But I already have…"
"You have something to cover your nakedness, that's not the same thing," the Lady of the House cut her off gently, and in spite of the girl's mild protests she led her over to her wardrobe.
After a few moments of urging and contemplation, Kisara agreed to a fine white linen dress with a blue sash and a sheer blue shawl…
Nephthys smiled and nodded in approval. "You look lovely," she said. "The blue and white suit you perfectly."
"You really think so?…"
"I know so," the Lady of the House assured her. "You may be smaller then me, but all we have to do is tighten the sash a bit and the dress fits like it was made for you."
Kisara looked down at herself in the dress, then looked back up at Nephthys with a grateful smile.
"Thank you so much," she said earnestly. "I've never worn anything so fine before."
The Lady of the House laughed and took her hand. "Well, you'll want to show it to everyone downstairs then. Let's go!."
**********
The two women made their way downstairs to the kitchen where Si-amun was helping Mutnodjmet finish preparing lunch and the girls were helping Seto set the table…
"Well, look who's here," Kaiba announced when he saw them. "We've been busy getting ready for lunch while you two were upstairs primping."
"Hmmph! Just ignore him," Nephthys scoffed, and Kisara covered her mouth to hide a giggle!.
Mut went to embrace the girl. "You look lovely, dear," she said, giving her a kiss on the cheek.
"Yes, she does," Si agreed with a smile and a nod. Nephthys had indeed done a good job helping her.
"Kisara looks like a pwincess!," Khu said.
Khu laughed and clapped her hands. "K'sara's a pwincess!."
"A foreign princess!," Mariasha added eagerly, "Kidnapped and brought to Khemet."
At this, Seto and Nephthys exchanged knowing glances... They knew Asha above all of them understood Kisara's feelings of being a foreigner in Khemet
The silvery white haired girl blushed and looked down modestly. "Oh no," she protested with a shy smile. "I… I'm no princess…"
Laughing warmly, both Nephthys and Mut took Kisara by her hands and guided her over to the table.
"Not another word before you have something to eat, my dear," the Lady of the House insisted, helping the girl sit down on the cushion. "I thought noone could be a thin as Seto, but you must be at least ten or fifteen pounds lighter then he was when he first got here."
Kaiba crossed his arms over the table. "Hmmph! And now thanks to these people I can't even see my ribs anymore!."
The vixen playfully poked his side. "And that's a bad thing?."
"Yes," Mut chuckled. "You were so thin when you fist got here, Seto dear, we were afraid you would blow away like a leaf if there was a strong wind."
The young former CEO's reply was only another "Hmmph!."
Soon luncheon was served. Because of their new guest Mut and the others had prepared more food then usual. On the table were chicken, duck, gazelle and beef because Mut and Nephthys insisted Kisara get more meat on herself. There was also fresh grain bread and vegetables and fruits from the gardens as well as everyone's favorite, honey cakes!.
"So, Kisara dear," the Lady of the House said after taking a sip from her glass, "You don't have to speak of it right now if you don't wish, but we are interested in hearing how you came to be in Khemet if you'd care to tell us."
Kisara was silent and averted her eyes for a moment…
"Mmm hmm," Seto added. "I got dumped here by a magic piece of jewelry. What's your story?."
"Anu!," the Vixen hissed warningly under her breath.
"No, it's alright," the silvery white haired girl assured them, looking at them steadily once again. "After what you have done for me, I owe you that much at least." She folded her hands on her lap, took a deep breath and began... “I... I'm not entirely sure where I come from exactly... I was found, alone, near the ocean, by a wandering Canaanite tribe when I was a child...”
At this, the children made exclamations of surprise and awe. To them, Canaan was so far away and so foreign it may as well be another planet!.
Kisara brushed a few white bangs from her eyes before continuing...
“They were not unkind to me... They gave me clothes, enough food and water to live and they let me travel with them...” Here she paused... “Then... Then after several years... they cast me out...”
“But... But why?...” Asha wanted to know. Kisara had such a lovely sweet voice and soft gentle touch she couldn't understand why anyone would cast her out.
The young woman closed her eyes for a moment... “I suppose it was because they feared me for being a foreigner... When I first arrived in Khemet I tried to get a little water for myself, but the people there were angry and afraid... I was nearly stoned to death... If it hadn't been for… for…” At this, a tear ran down her fair white cheek. “I... I'm sorry...”
Kaibas eyes softened as he gazed at her. "It's alright, kiddo. You can cry all you like. Just about everyone here has a story like that."
"That's true," Nephthys added in agreement. "Young Asha and I both know how it feels to be regarded as outsiders in Khemet and poor Mut lost her first husband to an unjust law, so believe me, Kisara dear, you're in the right place."
Kisaras eyes then wandered over to where the young former CEO sat… "And what about you?…" she asked softly
"Me?…" He and Nephthys exchanged brief glances before he turned back the girl. "Well" he gave her a rueful, halfhearted smile, "I guess you could say my story's the same as yours Foreign wanderer ends up in Khemet and gets taken in by the vixen and the others..."
Kisara offered him a compassionate, understanding smile. "We have that in common then," she said.
Seto nodded. "Yeah… I guess so…" he answered thoughtfully

Unseen, Akefia watched thoughtfully through narrowed eyes as the family before him continued with their afternoon meal… Soon, his eyes rested on the girl… Her soft white skin, long silken white hair, wide deep blue eyes and graceful delicate form… Beautiful, he thought
Suddenly, he recalled rumors he had heard in the taverns of Waset… Rumors of a young foreign woman, white as a lotus, who possessed a tremendously powerful ka, so powerful in fact it may even be strong enough to defeat his own ka, Diabond… He himself had merged with Diabond upon his death, but when he looked at the girl he sensed no tremendous power… Perhaps the priests had already gotten a hold of it, which was why the Per'aa and them had been able to destroy him… Still, even if her ka was no longer in her body and sealed into some stone tablet in the temples instead, perhaps he could still find a use for this girl in his plans

Even though I prefer the manga for the most part, I decided to use Kisaras death from the anime. Much more romantic and dramatic I think!.
From the manga, but in Kisaras point of view, of course!.
Once again, Kisaras point of view, but a mix of the manga and anime.
