Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ The Prince's of the Gods ❯ No name yet.... ( Prologue )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Alright, yet another POS from late nights on the computer. Its like this: Yami and Yuugi are twin brothers. Yuugi is sick and his mother, the Queen of Egypt (duh) has to get him out of the palace. Yami is there to, but he stays with the queen. The woman who takes Yuugi is Y'mare. It's supposed to kinda be a play on words. (love) but, you'll see from there. They are about four, but don't realy remember much...
Khenmet held the crying bundle closer to her breast as she fled down the dark corridors. The bundle cried, the muffled wailing of a small child. Runing at her side was another child, about three years old. He was small and skinny with an amazing starburst of dark ebony, red and gold hair. His unique hairstyle made him easily recognizable, so she had covered him in a large cloak.
"Mama, why are we running?" he asked as the made a series of tight turns and narrow passageways.
"Because your brother is in danger, and your father will do anything to anyone who has him."
"Even us, mama?" he asked, his crimson eyes wide in fear.
"Yes Yami, even to us. The sooner we get him out of the palace, the better. Come now, and hush. We do not want to attract the guards attention."
She bounced the bundle a little, trying her best to calm the sick child. His hair, which was just like his brother's, was limp and damp. It clung to his face, glued down with presperation. His face was flushed and his usually beautiful violet eyes were unfocoused and dull.
He was always a sickly child, he had been borne that way. She could still hear the midwife's voice, telling her that only one of her babies had made it into the world alive.
~~flashback~~
"Push! You've almost got it." The midwife said to the screaming woman in labor. The pain was unbearable, and she was only partially done.
"AAAHHHHH!" Her face turned red with the exertion as she pushed. At last she was rewarded with a cry of joy and the high pitched wail of the newborn.
"He is healthy my Queen." She wrapped the child in a blanket and allowed the new mother to see her first born son.
Khenmet smiled and suddenly screamed again as the second child in her womb made it's presence known.
After a few minutes of intense pain, the midwife knew something was wrong.
"There is something wrong with this one. Kalli, I'll need more water and sheets. Now girl!" the woman snapped at the girl as she turned her attention back to the problem at hand.
Khenmet suddenly pushed, feeling the baby move into position, and the midwaife gasped.
This baby was smaller than the first, and was slightly blue. It had the umbilial cord wrapped tightly around its neck. She quickly unwrapped him and tried to get him to breath.
After a minute she looked down sadly at the dead infant in her arms.
"My Queen, I am terribly sorry, but..." she faltered.
"But what? What is wrong with my child?!" She was tired, and couldn't fully understand the nurse.
"I'm sorry, but he was a stillborn. He was choked in the womb. There was nothing we could do." She wrapped the dead infant and made to leave.
"NO! Give me my baby!"
"But my Queen, it is dead."
"I don't care, I want to hold my child!" She was crying now, hot tears streaking down her face. The nurse handed the still bundle to the Queen.
"Leave us. Now." She commanded the woman in a dangerous voice.
"But my Queen! You need to rest and-" Khenmet interupted.
"I. Said. Leave."
The nurse bowed and scurried out of the room, closing the doors behind her.
"Oh my child, I am sorry that you never got to see the world. Your brother is healthy though. Oh!" Her eyes went wide as the bundle moved.
Suddenly there was a cry as the baby took it's first breath.
"Meshat! Hurry!" she screamed, upsetting the child in her arms. The woman came running, afraid of what she might find. Instead of something horrible, she saw Khenmet smiling happily.
She held out the crying bundle, motioning her to come and hold the child.
"By Ra! It is a miracle!" She stared at the small twin as the first born was brought in to be held by his mother. Khenmet held out her arms and recieved both her sons.
Holding them close, she whispered, "Hear me my boys. You were almost seperated today, but I promise that no matter what, by the Gods, you will always be together. Even in the darkest of your hours, you will always have one another."
The tired mother and infants soon fell asleep.
Unbeknownst to them, the Gods had heard her promise to the sons of Egypt. And they all agreed that they were worthy. The chosen two, to save the race of man.
"With my blessing and my powers I bestow the Gifts of the Gods to you both. Good luck Yami and Hikari."
The king of the Gods smiled and watched the twins sleep.
~~present~~
She blinked back her tears, slipping quietly into the private gardens. She knew that one day something like this would happen.
From the very begining her husband, Pharoh, had detested the second born. He claimed that the child was to weak, and his brother would be better without him.
"The less distractions Yami has while he is trained for the throne, the better. He dosen't need to be burdened with this pathetic weakling!"
She had managed to persuade him otherwise, saying that twin boys were a sign from the gods, and not to anger the Gods by harming them.
It had worked, for a while. But then Yuugi had gotten sick with some strange disease. The priests and healers could find no way to cure him, and despite all their pleading, the Pharoh had given the order to kill the boy.
The three made their way to a small doorway, and the figure beside it.
"Take care of my child Y'mare. Keep him safe untill the time is right. I will send for him when this blows over." she whispered to the shrouded woman.
"Yes Khenmet, I will raise him as my own. But we must hurry and leave, else they find us and..." She held out her arms to recieve the bundle.
Khenmet uncovered her son's face to gaze at him one last time. She quietly sang her lullaby to him, holding his small hand in her own.
((My son, I have nothing I can give
But this chance that you may live
I pray we'll meet again
Hush now, my baby
Be still, love, don't cry
Sleep as you're rocked by the stream
Sleep and remember my last lullaby
So I'll be with you when you dream
So I'll be with you when you dream...))
The tears flowed down her face, and Yami, not fully comprehending the meaning of this parting, stared at his twin brother one last time.
Y'mare took him and ran out of the garden, not turning back at the weeping of the Queen and her son.
~~13 and a half years later~~
The small child fell on his knees, crying out at the pain in his back as he was whipped.
"Get up slave!" yelled the guard who had whipped him.
Tears stung the back of his eyes, threatening to fall, but he would not give this guard no baka the pleasure of seeing him cry.
He got to his knees, stumbling over his own two feet as he gathered the bundle he was carrying back into his cloak.
He ran off, tunneling through the crowd untill he found a deserted alleyway. He knew it was dangerous in places like this, but he had to stop.
He could feel the blood running down his scarred back, droping to the sand at his feet. He opened the bundle and pulled the bundle of food out of his cloak.
He wrapped the cloak over his torn shirt, making sure that his hair band was in place as he pulled up the hood.
He didn't know why he was made to do this, but Y'mare had always made him. She said that he looked like someone important, and that he could be hurt, or even killed because of it. He didn't understand, but he did as she said.
Besides, it's not everyday you see a child with a starburst of tri-colered hair. So he covered his hair every day, and wore his cloak often.
"Hey, kid, watcha got in the bag?" A man appeared to come out of no where.
This creeped Yuuvha (Yuugi) out thoroughly, so instead of answering, he turned and ran.
The figure just stood there, watching the fleeing teen. He started to laugh quietly.
He turned and walked away, towards the palace.
"I've found you at last little prince... My Master will be most pleased..."
In a flash of sun bleached hair and lavender eyes, he dissapeared.
~~In the Palace~~
"Yami, my son, come out." Khenmet stood in front of a pair of ornate doors, closed to her. Her son was currently in there, but doing what?
"Mother, leave me alone. I just need a day off. For two years, I have borne this burden. I am exhausted. I need some rest."
Yami lay on the large bed, curled in a fetal position. It had been two years since he had been crowned Pharoh. Two years since he and his mother no longer had to live in fear of his father.
"Yami, what is the real reason you refuse to come out of your chambers?" She had a feeling she knew, but she hoped with all her soul that she was wrong.
<That was over thirteen years ago, he should not remember it! I have tried for years to locate Y'mare, but I was unable to. What if they- No! I will not think that way! He is alive, I just know it.>
It tore her heart apart, not having seen her other child for so long.
<<I'm lonely. I feel like there is a piece of myself...missing? It has always been there, but lately, Ra! It hurts!>>
"I am just lonesome."
<<And scared.>>
"My seventeenth birthday is coming, and I hate birthdays. All the complicated parties, court duties. And the presents. They get more extravagant every year!"
"Why is that so horrible?"
"Because, mother, there is something missing inside of me. A hole in my soul. And every year, it gets worse."
"Son, we need to talk, face to face, mother to son. Please... It is important." Her voice lowered to a soft whisper. She heard the lock opening and the door creaked slowly open.
Yami stepped out, crimson eyes bloodshot, hair disheveled. He wore a golden circlet on his head, with a ruby in the center.
He wore many gold rings and braclets, arm bands and an earing.
Even without the gold and jewls, he was now a handsome young man.
He embraced his mother then let her lead them to a private garden.
Something about this place triggered a memory, just a flash.
They sat on a bench. His mother looked at him sadly, then started her story.
"Yami, when you were born, you were not an only child. You had a twin brother. His name was Yuugi, and he was a special child. He was dead at birth, but with the help of the Gods, came to life in my arms. After that, your father insisted that we get... rid... of him. To him, Yuugi was a weakling and a threat to your learning, and your life. When you both were three, Yuugi got very sick. He could not be cured by any palace healer, or priest. That was the last straw for your father. He ordered him to be killed. You and I took him and came to this garden.
"A woman named Y'mare was waiting for us. She took your brother to keep him safe. He would be her child, untill I called for him. Years went by, and when I was finally able to call her, she was no where to be found. I know, somewhere in my heart, that your brother lives, but I know not where, or how."
She was crying now, her head burried in her hands.
"A-a-a twin? A brother? Why didn't you tell me sooner?" He was confused, and angry.
She looked up at him and said, "Because as the years went by, I was afraid to get your hopes up, only to never find him.
Khenmet held the crying bundle closer to her breast as she fled down the dark corridors. The bundle cried, the muffled wailing of a small child.
