Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ The Rematch ❯ Chapter 1 ( Chapter 1 )
This story covers the events that would occur if Seto Kaiba came to Yugi Motto's school for a demonstration of his dueling technology.
One day when school was particularly boring Mrs. Kempbell strolled to the front of the class and announced;
"Class, we have a very special guest here today. He has made many contributions to the dueling world, and he has the title of top dueler."
At those words, Yugi sat up in his chair, actually interested. Joey was so surprised he fell out of his chair. Tea, Tristan, Joey, Yugi and Bakura exchanged looks. They knew who it was. Seto Kaiba. Yugi guessed if Kaiba was here, Mokuba wasn't too far behind.
"Please welcome Seto Kaiba." The applause began as soon Kaiba strode in to the classroom. He met the gazes of Yugi's friends as they stared up at him, their looks taunting.
Kaiba froze, not believing that all of Yugi's friends were in the same class. Let alone in this class.
Then as if nothing were wrong, Kaiba continued to the front of the class, set his briefcase on the desk, and opened it. The class was amazed at what was in the briefcase. It was the dueling disks that Kaiba and Joey dueled with.
"Man, if I'd known that goon was coming, I'd have skipped school," whispered Joey. Tristan stifled a small laugh. Tea and Yugi looked at each other and rolled their eyes
"My Company, Kaiba Corporations, has made many things to aid in the dueling world. This is one piece that I'm going to be sharing with you today," Kaiba said as he took out the dueling disks.
The classroom clock ticked away the minutes as Kaiba talked. He talked about his company, and many other things. Though he conveniently left out parts such as; his loss to Yugi, his brother being kidnapped and then rescued by Yugi.
He was just getting to one of his greatest duels, when suddenly a paper air plane flew in from the hall hit Kaiba in the head and fell into the case. Kaiba picked it up and read it. It was from Mokuba saying he was incredibly bored and that he wished that Kaiba would hurry and do the demonstration.
Kaiba looked out into the hall and actually, almost grinned in front of the whole class. Joey could see that Kaiba was trying not to smile.
Out of curiosity he leaned over to see what happened in the hall. But he leaned a bit too far, and fell out of his chair, on the floor in front of Tea. Yet, Joey had gotten a glimpse of Mokuba before he fell so he was rolling on the floor with laughter. For what he saw was a very bored looking Mokuba with hair in small tight braids.
Lucky for Joey the teacher had gone to copy worksheets, so she was not present for Joey's little scene.
Just then, Mrs. Kempbell strode back into the classroom with a stack of papers.
"Umm, excuse me, I must go get a drink of water," Kaiba said, as he stalked out of the room. At that point Mrs. Kempbell decided this was the perfect time to hand out the worksheets.
Now, Kaiba was not going to get a drink of water, at all he was planning to scold Mokuba.
"What do you think you're doing Mokuba? That airplane was not very polite."
"Well, how else was I supposed to get your attention?"
"What did you do to your hair?"
"I was bored!"
"Shhh, do you want the whole class in there to hear you?"
Little did the Kaiba brothers know, the class had heard almost everything so far.
"Just how did you get your hair to stay like that?"
"Simple. First I braided it, and then I wet it to stay, and look I even found some rubber bands on the-"
"Sorry I asked. Now, I'm going back in there and I expect you to keep quiet. I'm almost to the demonstration".
"Well, what am I supposed to do? It's really boring traveling around to all these schools, listening to you drag on, and on, all the while I'm sitting in the hall being good. I'm getting sick of it!"
"Well, in the mean time you can unbraid your hair, but in the future you should bring a book."
"Oh yeah…that's a good idea I never thought of that before."
As Kaiba strode back in, the class tried to act as though they didn't hear the conversation. But Kaiba knew right away that they had heard everything, even so he tried to act natural.
"Now for the demonstration I will show you how the disks work by dueling someone. Are there any volunteers?"
The whole class raised their hand, along with Joey who was jumping up and down in his chair trying to get Kaiba's attention. Yugi, on the other hand, barely raised his hand. Yet, Kaiba noticed his hand anyway; he had been ignoring the rest of the class, waiting for Yugi to raise his hand.
"You in the front with the pointy hair," Kaiba said pointing at Yugi. You will have the honor of dueling me. You do have a deck right?"
"Of course," Yugi said revealing his deck and ignoring Kaiba's remark," Right here."
"Good." Kaiba said ending their conversation with one of his half smiles.
Everyone stood up and followed Kaiba out the door, anxious to see what little Yugi would make of the famous Seto Kaiba.
As they strolled out, everyone chatting quietly about what would happen; they passed Mokuba, who was still trying to get his hair out of the braids. Thankfully, no one noticed and passed him without taking much notice.
Yugi and his friends were at the end of the line also chatting.
"For a goon who never wanted to see us again, he sure seemed to want to duel Yugi. I mean he was barely raising his hand". Joey said.
"That's true; I think he really wanted a rematch. First I beat him, then he cheats to win, I think he wanted a fair rematch to prove he truly is better than me," Yugi pointed out.
Meanwhile Mokuba had skipped up to Kaiba.
"Who are you dueling Seto?" He asked.
"Yugi Motto".
"Yugi?!" Mokuba squealed with delight. "You mean the one that-"
"Yeah that Yugi". Kaiba interrupted not wanting to hear what Mokuba had to say. Mokuba got a strange gleam in his eyes, a gleam Kaiba knew to be trouble, "Mokuba, stay right here." He said forcefully, but it was too late. Mokuba ducked Kaiba's grab for him and skipped all the way to the back of the line where Yugi and his friends were standing.
Bakura, who was not really listening to his friends, was the only one who noticed Mokuba coming.
"Hey guys, I hate to interrupt here, but Mokuba's heading this way.
They all looked up in time to see that Bakura was right. Mokuba reached them and started dancing around Yugi chanting, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, over and over until Tea slapped her hand over his mouth and controlled his jumping.
"Oh, great, another loud mouth! One's bad enough but two?" She complained.
"Hey are you call'n me a loud mouth Tea?!!!" Joey yelled "you call'n me a loud mouth?! If you're calling me a loud mouth-" He stopped short realizing his friends were staring at him. He smiled, embarrassed by his outburst.
Tristan explained to Mokuba that they had to pretend not to know him and Kaiba. "We don't want everybody knowing about Yugi rescuing you and your brother," he told Mokuba. They looked up, and noticed for the first time, everyone was staring at the scene Mokuba had started.
Suddenly Mokuba realized why they wanted to keep it quiet. That gave him an idea. He once again started dancing around Yugi.
Tea scowled, "Did he not get what we just said," she whispered to the rest of the gang.
But Mokuba had understood perfectly, and was covering up for his foolishness.
"You're never, ever, ever, ever going to beat my brother, because he's too good," he was chanting. With that he skipped back up to Kaiba.
"I thought I told you to stay here twirp," Kaiba said, glaring at his younger brother.
"I'm not a twirp," Mokuba protested. "I got away form Pegasus, and found Yugi didn't I?"
"Then managed to get captured again," Kaiba reminded him.
"Yeah, well I'm not supertwirp or anything…," Mokuba said quickly. They stopped talking until the class got outside.
Yugi found himself in the center of the circle along with Kaiba, who looked ready to duel, for real.
"Now, we will demonstrate how to use the dueling disks…."
"Hey Kaiba," Joey yelled, "I think Yugi knows how they wo-"His sentence was cut off by the hands of Tea, Tristan, and Bakura.
"As I was saying," continued Kaiba, "take the smaller piece of equipment and strap it to your wrist. Next slide your deck into the slot on that circle. Now select your first card and place it in the middle of the second disk, throw it like a Frisbee, and we're ready to duel."
"Fine by me," Yugi said.
Kaiba drew his first card. `Hmm If I can make Yugi think that he's winning, and then draw all three Blue Eyes and a Polymerization card, Yugi will be powerless, without Exodia to help him. But I I'll have to be careful of that arrow card as well.' Kaiba thought to himself.
"Are we going to duel or have tea time?" Yugi asked, getting impatient, and an evil stare from his teacher. He was just as excited as Kaiba about having a rematch.
"Let's begin. Saggi the Dark Clown in attack mode," Kaiba announced, finally.
Yugi thought that was a weird choice, but the last time he had met with this card was still fresh in his mind. It was now his turn. He drew a card, and smiled seeing what it was. "Go, Gaia the Fierce Knight, attack Saggi the Dark Clown." Yugi's card obliterated Kaiba's puny clown. Apparently, his clown wasn't infected with the Crush card virus this time.
Kaiba drew another card. "Go, Battle Ox, attack!"
The Battle Ox attacked, and destroyed Gaia. Yugi and Kaiba had about the same score, though Kaiba a slim lead.
"Your turn Yugi," Kaiba said menacingly.
"Come on Yugi; show that goon how much better you are!" Joey yelled, just before Tea slapped her hand over his mouth, and he received a detention for being rude to their guest.
"Hey what are you doing?" Joey yelled at Tea, "I'm just trying to cheer him on!"
"Yeah I know," Tea replied, "It's just become reflex. You really should be more careful with what you say though."
"Fine, but do me grand favor and try to control your reflexes ok? It's beginning to hurt," Joey whimpered.
"Yeah well you two can do ME a grand favor and SHUT UP! Ok? I'm trying to watch and HEAR Yugi's duel," Tristan complained, interrupting their argument.
"Sorry Tristan," they both apologized.
It was Yugi's turn again. "Go, Pharaoh Imp! Attack Battle Ox, lightening strike!"
The cry of Kaiba's card rang all over the playground, as it was shattered into a million pieces.
"Why are they doing that?" Tea wondered.
"What'd ya mean Tea? It's called dueling! Yugi's winning and Kaiba's not looken too happy" Joey replied smugly.
"Yeah I know that Joey, but it seems as though they're both holding back. They're not playing their best cards," said Tea, worried.
"Hey you're right Tea!" Joey said slowly, realizing the truth, "for once in your life," he added under his breath.
"What did you say?" Tea demanded, glaring at Joey.
"N-nothing T- Tea," Joey stammered.
They went back to watching the duel in silence. It was getting a little boring because neither of them was playing to their fullest extent.
Finally Joey couldn't stand it any more. He blurted out, "Come on Yugi! Why are you holding back? You beat him and Pegasus before; then rescued Kaiba and Mokuba from Pegasus. Why don't you smash him to pieces just like his Battle Ox?" He stopped, and looked around. He saw Tea and Tristan looking like they were about to strangle him. He noticed that the entire class was looking back and forth between Yugi, Kaiba and him.
"He, he oops," Joey managed to mumble. It took awhile for what he had said to sink in. But as soon as everyone had realized that Yugi was the Duelist Kingdom Champion, and had done something for Kaiba, everyone was crowding around him asking all sorts of stupid questions.
Tea was finally able to get through the crowd, to Joey. He had been looking around for Tea and when he spotted her and quickly rushed over.
"I thought I told you to watch what you say!" Tea said, glaring at him.
"Come on we have to get out of here," Tristan yelled over the uproar, "Now!!" He screamed at them again, because neither one of them had moved. Through all of the confusion and chaos no one noticed Bakura slip back into the school.
It took awhile for Tea, Tristan and Joey to get through the crowd. When they finally did, it was a flat out run to the empty classroom they always went to hide and solve problems.
Kaiba and Yugi had been watching the scene too dumbstruck to do anything. And when the others had started running they were still staring, trying to figure out what just happened.
"Are you coming?" Tea yelled over her shoulder to the only two people who she would actually want to be talking to. They glanced at each other, and shrugged. Kaiba started running after them, his cape billowing behind him. But then Yugi stopped him.
"Kaiba, this way, I know a shortcut!" Yugi yelled.
Kaiba stopped and looked at Yugi "Are you sure?" He asked.
"Positive, follow me," Yugi replied. They raced across the playground in the opposite direction of everyone else. The class reached the school before Kaiba and Yugi, but the classroom they were headed for was on the other side the school.
Yugi reached the classroom before anyone else.
"Hurry, they'll be here soon, get ready to block that door with a desk."
Kaiba went over one the children's desks and began pushing it toward the door.
"No, not that desk, get the teachers desk, it's heavier."
Kaiba said nothing as he stepped over to the teacher's desk.
"Come on Kaiba! They're coming, we only have 10 seconds," Yugi said, anticipation in his voice.
"How do you know that they're coming now? How do you even know they're coming here? The could've found different classroom, or maybe they already got caught by the mob or-"
At that point Yugi stopped listening because Tea, Tristan, Joey, and Mokuba shot into the room. They all moved the desk in front of the door, blocking it so no one could get in …or out.
Kaiba just stared too stunned to speak, though he did manage to sputter, "How did you- when did you- what the heck just happened?!" `It seemed to perfect to believe. Perfect timing, perfect…, it was almost like they had planned and practiced time and time again.' "How did you know the others were coming right then? And how did you know they were coming here?" Kaiba asked, still utterly baffled.
Tea looked up at Kaiba still slightly panting from running. "We just do. I guess you could say we're linked together, and that we just sense it." She finished breathlessly, looking down at her hands.
Kaiba was looking at Yugi and his friends like they were some kind of telepathic aliens, finally recovering from his surprise he said. "I've had enough of this," he said, "I'm out of here, come on Mokuba.
"Ha! Good luck getting out the door, let alone out of the school," Tristan cut in, "In case you've forgotten there's an entire class out there trying to figure out what is going on, and they'll do anything to find out."
"So? I'll go out the window," Kaiba said turning towards the window. But before he could reach it Bakura stepped out in front of him. Once again he had that evil look in his eyes.
"Oh, but Kaiba-boy you can't leave just yet. The fun has just begun…."
