Chapter 8

The chilly, strong (early) October winds burst threw the windows, pushing past the curtains and knocking all the stacks of paper and bills off the table, running threw Seto and Mokuba's hair as Kira pushed pas t the winds and shut the window.

The bills and newspapers, printer papers, and other forms and such were scatter all over the apartment, all there residents stopped to look around.

"My God, Seto, help Aunt Kira pick these up" Kira sighed. Seto did what he was told and the two picked up all the papers, putting them back in the stacks.

"Seto, you're birthday is coming up…what do you want?" Kira asked.

"I don't know…." Seto said, leaning over to pick up a newspaper clipping.

"Well, if theres anything you want…tell me…but I don't think we'll be able to get a cake or decorations this year…sorry" Kira apologized

"It's okay, I don't like cake and party decorations just look dumb" Seto lied, hoping his aunt would feel better, she had been down a lot ever since there money problems started and Kira lost her job.

"I'm hungry" Mokuba whined

"So am I" Kira joked. "Seto, see if you can find something for Mokuba, I haven't gone shopping much lately….remind me tomorrow….okay?" Kira mummer

Seto walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge. He poured the very last bit of milk into a cup for Mokuba, the opened up the pantry, he go a few soda crackers for Mokuba out, there wasn't much left cept for a few coffee beans all wrapped up in a paper bag and half a loaf of bread.

"Aunt Kira you really need to go shopping" Seto called.

"I know….but theres not enough money, I'm gonna borrow some from Sika down the hall" Kira called back from the living room.

Seto nodded his head.

Seto slumped down on a chair. He leaned over and took a cracker off of Mokuba's plate. He was so hungry he couldn't have grabbed them all and shoved them in his mouth, but he didn't. He slowly ate his, then tilted his head back and closed his eyes. He put his hands around his stomach, it hurt now.

"Seto, come over here and be my calculator for a while honey" Kira called, Seto walked over to his aunt, to help her with the taxes. On every bill there were such huge numbers, in thousands and such. He wonder how they were gonna pay off all theses debts.

"Aunt Kira…."

"Yeah, Seto?"

Seto was gonna ask why they owe so much, but Seto lost his courage, not wanting to now anymore. "Nothing"

"Okay, if you say so"

"Seto, what did Auntie Kira want to talk to you about yesterday?" Mokuba asked as he and Seto got ready for bed.

Seto's heart began to beat faster "Ah……" Seto began; he didn't want to tell his brother that Kira might have to give them up.

"What is it Nii-sama? I wanna know" Mokuba insisted

Seto sighed "Were in a lot of money debt, that's all"

"Really…..okay" Mokuba said cheerfully

Seto began to come Mokuba's long hair when Mokuba asked, "Anything else…what did she say?"

"Okay, Mokuba" Seto said in frustration `Were in a lot of money debt and if it gets worse then were going to an orphanage"

"Really…? No lie?" Mokuba asked

"Really, Mokuba"

Mokuba looked scared that night. Seto listened to his breathing as they lay in the bed they both shared. Seto wished he hadn't told Mokuba and just made up some lie.

"Mokuba?"

"Yeah?"

"I don't think Aunt Kira will send us to an orphanage…she loves us to much." Seto said to try to comfort Mokuba.

"Promise? That we won't go?"

"Promise. Aunt Kira loves us and she won't send us away"

Mokuba grinned as he heard the word "love". It must have been a great honor for a little guy like Mokuba to hear that someone loved him…especially after Sota died.

"Goodnight little brother"

"Night, night Seto"

Both boys drifted off to sleep.
