Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ The Ultimate Yami no Game ❯ The Ring ( Chapter 1 )

[ X - Adult: No readers under 18. Contains Graphic Adult Themes/Extreme violence. ]
A/N - This is my first fanfic here on MediaMiner and I'd really appriciate some reviews :) Maybe the story is a bit boring in the beginning, but once we get to the lemon, I think it'll be better. ^^

Finally it was there, the Duel Monsters Tournament. I had been preparing for this moment for years, and it could start any minute now. There were a lot of professionals and a lot of amateurs. It felt good going in this as the underdog. No one would suspect me coming and taking their life points.
After a short time waiting, we were ready to board on the ship that would take us to Duel Island. A boat ride which would take two days. I had two days to check out the competition  and refine my strategies.
My brother had told me that two of his friends were also competing. He would go with them, and with me of course. I hated his protectiveness.
'You know Raven, it's very important that you don't challenge Yugi.  I can't tell you why, but you need to promise me that you won't.'
Typical, he wants to keep an eye on everyone till the very end.
'Sure, whatever.'
Honda waving was a sign that his friends had arrived, two boys and a girl. The little boy had black and purple spiked hair with yellow at the front of his do. He looked sweet. The taller and cuter one had blond hair and a sweet green jacket. The girl looked more repressed, Honda's type.
'Hey Honda, couldn't you have told us that your sister is cute?'
My brother's face turned red with anger when the blonde guy slapped him on the back.
'Don't even try, Joey.  I swear to god.'
As Joey walked up to me, I noticed a small scar on his left cheek.
'Good morning, beautiful Lady. Are you here to compete too?'
As I nodded, I introduced myself. Joey had something really comforting over him. It was some form of self-esteem with a bit of arrogance in there.
'Raven, huh? Well, I think as long as we stick together we'll make it through!'
I couldn't help but laugh, it was quite cute.
Yugi was very different from Joey, he was very quiet. As he approached me, I felt a excruciating pain in my hand. Yugi shook the other one and told me he was looking forward to spending time with me.
Then I saw it, the puzzle around his neck. It looked just like my ring, that had to be it. When I looked around I found myself the only one who had noticed. Could Yugi change his appearance, just like I could? Did he have a battle face, just like me?
I had hoped for a private room, but those apparently only went out to professionals and champions. The listings were done according to region. Since we were from the Kanto region, I shared a bunk with Anzu, Joey, Yugi, my brother and a little kid who looked familiar, although he had covered a lot of his body.
'Man, I wish we had a private room. Where am I gonna put all my stuff?'
Anzu seemed a bit whiny to me. Nothing positive had come out of her mouth since I had met her. Joey and Yugi were busy with a game of Duel Monsters. What a nice time to check out their skills.
After four minutes, it was clear that Joey was just a amateur, nothing to worry about. Yugi on the other hand looked like a pro. If he could put up his battle face, who knows what he'd be capable of.
'Would you like to try me?'
'Excuse me?'
Joey scratched his ear as Yugi started laughing. Apparently, my shocked expression was funny.
'I'm sorry, I meant a game of Duel Monsters.'
I grinned and shook my head.
'Sorry guys, I don't plan on giving away my strategies. Nothing personal, but you can't trust anyone.
Yugi put his arm around me. It made the pain in my hand grow with each second.
'Raven, you are quite competitive, aren't you? Why do you want to win so bad?'
When I thought about it, my instinct at that time was to say it. No, it was to scream it. To scream all the things I felt. The constant supervision, the mean looks, the guilt, everything. I was a coward for shutting my mouth, I had been a coward for so long.
Tears fell overboard, becoming one with the sea. The only thing that could save me was winning this tournament. The three million yen could make all my problems go away.
'What are you doing here all by yourself in the middle of the night?'
I shivered when I turned around. A warmth came over me as Yugi stood besides me. The pain retreated, and I noticed Yugi wasn't wearing his puzzle.
'Everyone has something that eases their minds, right? A special feeling you get like you're not human anymore? For me it's the moon. I don't know why, but it's calming light gives me the feeling that everything will be fine. I hate it when the beauty of the moon isn't visible during the day. I have to get back to my crappy life, and smile while I break apart bit by bit.'
Yugi didn't say anything and stared at the moon with me. I could tell he had a feeling what was going on.
'Don't worry. You're another member on this team that we'll set free.'
'What do you mean?'
'Honda told you that you couldn't battle me, didn't he?'
As I nodded, a grin appeared on Yugi's face. Did Honda try to make everyone pity him in some sort of way, so that Yugi could win the tournament?
'The organizer of this tournament has held my grandfather's soul hostage. I have come here to rescue him. That's why I can't lose. Honda was trying to be a good friend, and he probably knows something about your dueling skills that we don't.'
'So that's why you want to win?'
'Yes. Even if it is the last thing I do, I have to save him.'
'I'll help you. We can beat him, whoever he is.'
My words seemed to calm Yugi down.
'So, please tell me, why do you want to win? I noticed you wanted to tell, but couldn't somehow.'
A shock went through my body. How could he have noticed. I have been putting up this wall for years, and no one in my family ever noticed.
'I.. I want to be free.'
'What do you mean?'
As much as I wanted to tell him, Yugi was still a friend of Honda's. If he'd run his mouth for even once, I could forget all of my freedom.
'You can tell me, it's okay. I'd never rat out a friend.'
A friend? I was his friend? But he just knew me, in fact, he didn't know me at all. He only knew I was Honda's sister. Why would you make someone your friend if there's a good possibility that you'll be dueling against each other. I wouldn't duel him in the first rounds, but if we were to reach the top, we'd face each other eventually.
'I'm going to bed. Goodnight.'
