Chapter 3
~Beauty in the Breakdown~

The Pharaoh of Kemet stared at the woman who was standing before him as an equal. “Isis, What have you found out? Has the boy even woke?” He asked, his voice sounding bitter. It was obvious the man held malice and spite for not only the boy, but now for his son as well. No one went against the lord of both Ta Mehu and Ta Shemau. Upper and Lower Kemet were at his command.

Isis held a scowl on her face. “You, Per A’ah, are the reason the boy has yet to stir. You beat him and then do not have the kindness in you to clean his wounds. He was under fed and frail. It is a surprise that he is still breathing. Osiris could have taken his Ka from you at any moment.” Her eyes seemed to glare at him before she turned to his sickly wife.

The raven haired woman looked up past her bleach tipped bangs. “Isis...” She looked frail, but it was obvious she was stronger than she looked. “Can I see the boy?” She asked, stepping forward. It was obvious that this was Atemu’s mother, no other woman could have the same fiery eyes as the young future of Kemet.

The Pharaoh looked to the woman who stood right behind him. He was seething. His own wife did not even ask for his permission. HE was the grandson of Khufu, the living god who created the pyramid of Giza.

Isis only nodded, moving forward. “We take our leave now, Per A’ah.” Isis’ voice was soft as she helped lead the other woman.

The two women walked, one leaning on the other for support as they reached the golden doors of Kemet’s future Pharaoh. Isis pushed open the door before leading the woman inside, knowing that Atemu was still sleeping. “His in the bed with your son.” She whispered, pulling up a golden chair for the woman to sit on.

Beautiful crimson eyes gazed down at the pale creature. Her breath hitched as she felt something pulling at her heart. Her hand sent out, pushing the silky bangs from his face. “Freesia.” she whispered, identifying the scent that the boy seemed to be putting off. It was a rare flower that had been put in the palace several years back only to die.

“Isis, how could this have happened?” She asked, tears welling up in her scarlet eyes. The pools of enriched red turned and fixated on the other sleeping figure. A small smile came to her lips, but the tears continued to fall from her face, rolling down her cheeks to drip off her chin. One by one the salty droplets fell, splashing the angelic face below her.

“My lady, please, let it all out, it is not healthy to keep your stress bottled up.” Isis placed a hand on the woman’s shoulder. “Your time here shall only grow worse. Every moment you keep yourself bottled up, you disease gets stronger.”

The woman nodded her head. “Is Atemu ready to take over?” She asked, her voice soft as she wiped the tears from her eyes. “I am not sure I can forgive, Isis.” She shook her head, biting her lower lip. “I am not sure how much longer I have, but He killed my little angel.” She took a deep breath. The Pharaoh did not want someone who was weak. “I can imagine that this little creature is how my baby should have looked.”

Isis shook her head, remembering the woman’s son twelve years prior. He had been ill, frail and sickly. The Pharaoh saw this and made her watch him die as he held the child under the river before tossing the limp form to the crocodiles.

The image was modifying, and since that fateful moment, the woman’s heart became frail. “He has to be strong.” She said, standing up, refusing help from the woman. “I want you to give my respects to Seth and his father.” She shook her head, walking out of the room.

Isis slowly followed the woman, leaving the sleeping boys.

-The Boy’s Mind-

It was warm, his soul room was so very warm. It was not something he was used to. Large amethyst eyes gazed up, feeling his face. He had not been crying, yet sure enough, Salty tears marred his porcelain face. He wiped them away, knowing they were not his.

He thought for a moment. A small smile danced across his angelic face. Perhaps it was time to return to the land of the wakeful.

-Kemet-

Atemu yawned, long having discarded the pillow, moving to something that provided more comfort. He unconsciously wrapped an arm around the sleeping figure in the bed next to him. He buried his face into the soft flesh of the boy’s arm.

The figure slowly started to stir, moving tiny fingers before heavy eyelids slowly forced their way open. The angelic creature twitched, waiting for his eyes to adjust. Bright violet gems of purity gazed upwards. The boy became vaguely aware of his surroundings, and the comforting touch next to him.

His eyes went wide when he noticed it was the same man from before. He squeaked his protest, but it did little good as his shifting only made the other clutch him closer. He let out a meek cry and he winced. His back hurt when the male squeezed him. His breath hitched a bit when he noticed the other begin to stir.

The boy quickly shut his eyes just as the other’s stunning crimson ones lifted. Atemu frowned, rubbing his eyes as he pulled away from the now trembling form. “Your awake?” He asked, almost shocked. He licked his lips, fighting back the urge to embrace the angel. “Boy?”

The trembling figure opened his eyes, patting his throat. It hurt to much to try and talk. Atemu quickly nodded, jumping from the bed only to return a moment later with a bowl of water. He quickly lifted the boy up, supporting his neck with his hand. “Drink this.”

The small boy nodded his head as the cool liquid was pressed to his lips. He drank greedily from the bowl, trying to get every drop. When there was now more, the boy looked up, his amethyst eyes content. “T-Thank you.” he whispered, not trusting his voice after so many years of neglecting it.

Crimson met violet for a long moment before a rare smile crossed the taller male’s face. “May I ask you a question?” He asked, looking down at the figure in his arms. He looked so helpless and needy.

The boy simply nodded his head as Atemu asked his question. “What is your name?”

The boy’s eyes lit up in shock. No one had asked him that for as long as he could remember. He frowned, digging deep in a far away memory.

A woman with long raven hair smiled down at the little boy who was doodling on the reed-like paper. “Yuugi!” she cried out with a bright smile, her mahogany eyes dancing with joy.

The memory skipped to another, and his gaze seemed to go further as he dug for an answer.

A strong man with short black hair that was pulled to the side smiled, handing the toddler a wooden sword. “My little Yuugi can protect our clan.” the man said, a kind smile on his face, reaching his lavender eyes.

Suddenly the boy’s eyes turned back to normal. “Yuugi.” He whispered the name, sacred on his lips. That was his name, the one thing that no one could ever take away from him. He looked into beautiful crimson before latching himself onto the figure. “M-My name is Yuugi.” He began to sob, letting his tears fall for the first time in many years.

Atemu was shocked to see the boy crying, let alone latching onto him. He watched as the creature broke down in his arms. “It is alright Yuugi.” He whispered in a voice he had never used before. What was it about this boy, this angel? He shut his eyes, letting Yuugi break down on him.

After a while, Yuugi’s pathetic sobs died down, and his hiccupped. “S-Sorry.” He whispered, pulling away. Atemu kept a hand on the boy’s wrist, not wanting the boy to pull away.

“No.” Atemu shook his head, snaking his arm around the other’s waist and pulling him close. “It is fine, let go, just let out your pain.” he whispered, not wanting the moment to end. His eyes seemed distant as his other hand went up to caress the thick strands of long raven tresses. The figure clutching onto him made him feel warm. “Yuugi.” He breathed out the name, melting with the other.
