Memories

Aria walked through the hot desert, clutching the puppy against her chest. Her face and her arms were turning red as the merciless heat surrounded her. She coughed violently as the desert heat made breathing difficult.

"I can't give up," she whimpered as her feet sunk into the sand with each step. "I have to find my daddy."

She looked around and saw pyramids in the distance. "Hungry."

The Sennen Eye glowed on her forehead as she heard her father's prayer echo in front of her:

"Osiris, I pray to you at the end of the day,

offering to you my day's actions

on the altar of the fiery sky."

"Daddy?" Aria ran to the oasis she saw in the distance.

She stopped suddenly, looking up at the vegetation surrounded by desert sands. "Daddy, are you here?"

She looked beside her and heard her father's prayer again.

"Guardian of the night,

spirits of the darkness, you are my companions.

Though the night's blackness stands as a wall, you will show me the way through,

My guides through shadows, my protectors from all terrors."

Aria walked over to where she heard her father speaking. She kneeled beside the spot and closed her eyes. She could see her father kneeling beside a fire, praying with his arms stretched and his head tilted back to look at the sky.

"Daddy? Are you here?"

Aria looked around and sniffled. She wiped a tear away from her cheek as silence surrounded her.

"I'm alone."

The ghost of her father's voice rang through her mind.

"Queen Isis, wrap your wings about my family and me and bring us through danger in safety.

Goddess with the enfolding wings,

Wrap them about me, Isis.

Keep fear and danger at bay."

Aria leaned over, sobbing. "I'm all alone. I miss my daddy!"

The puppy walked up to her and nudged her with its nose. It licked her hand. The little girl took the puppy into her arms and buried her face in its fur.

"You are all I have, puppy." Her stomach growled from lack of food. "My tummy! I better feed it before it gets angrier."

Aria looked up at the sun beginning to set. She stood up and entered the oasis finding a lake. "Water!"

Aria and the puppy ran to the river and drank from the lake.

She splashed her spiky white hair with the water and let it become saturated. The dog dipped its head into the water and shook vigorously.

"Now to find something to eat."

Aria looked around the oasis finding nothing but leaves. "I'd kill for M&M's right now. Sorry, puppy. Leaves are all we got."

The light and heat in the desert faded. Only the starlight gave her light. She opened her eyes in the night, hearing the crackling of the fire and her father's voice again.

"Fire of offering, you burn the sacrifice,

making it fit for the gods.

Burn away all my weaknesses,

Making me fit for the gods!"

Aria shivered in the cold air of night. The puppy cuddled close to her, allowing her to bury her exposed arms in its fur.

"I'm glad I have you, puppy. Would you like to stay at my house when we get back home? I live with my mommy and I have three daddies. Daddy Bakura is my daddy, though. I also have a brother whose three minutes younger than I am. I was borned first. That makes me the oldest. He's not Daddy Bakura's son, though. He's my Daddy Marik's son. Yup. We share the same mommy. I hope we get back home."

Aria looked up at the stars.

"I may have found my daddy, but I feel someone else. It feels like Unkie Seto, but it's not him."

Aria sighed. "I miss my daddy and Unkie Seto. I want my mommy!"

The little girl closed her eyes and fell asleep.

*****Aria's Dream*****

Three year old Aria was standing at a table pouring wine into a goblet. Like the other women, she was dressed in silky linens. She heard the door open and looked up.

A man dressed in expensive linens and decorated with gold entered the building. The man approached her, stepping past the new owner of the brothel where she was born.

A satisfied customer limped down the stairs as one of the women walked down the stairs, placing her hair into a ponytail and straightening her clothes for the next client who wanted to purchase her services.

The man looked at her and scanned her with his eyes.

Aria bowed to the well-dressed stranger. "Hello, sir."

The women whispered among them. "That's High-Priest Seth!"

"What is your name, child?"

Aria bowed again. "My name is Aria Kanika."

The brothel owner stood behind Aria. "Pour the High Priest a nice cup of wine, my dear Aria."

The three year old child's job was to fill wine goblets. She heard the High Priest Seth snicker at her attempts to fill a tiny glass and hold a big jug at the same time.

Seth's eyes widened as the child's mother came behind her. He became entranced with her beauty.

"Let me hold it for you, sweetheart."

"Who is the mother of this child?"

The mother bowed. "I am Rayna, your grace. I am this child's mother."

Seth snappedhis fingers. "I am buying Rayna for the entire night. No one shall disturb us, except for the child, who will bring us wine."

Rayna handed Aria to another woman. "Aziza, can you care for Aria while I entertain the High Priest?"

The little girl took a goblet and walked to Seth. She looked up at the High Priest with large, brown eyes. "Dis is for you, sir."

Seth kneeled and smiled at the little girl. "Thank you, Aria Kanika."

Aria ran to her mother. "I love you, mommy. I'll see you when you are done work."

**********End of Dream**************

Aria opened her eyes quickly and looked around. She was still in the oasis. She laid back down and listened to the wind of the desert. The dog was sleeping quietly beside her and she snuggled into it closer.

Aria closed her eyes as her dizziness returned.

****Aria's Dream****

Aria was sitting on Aziza's lap when her mother and Seth descended the stairs. The little girl ran to her mother, who brought her against her chest tightly.

"Aria, sweetheart, you have to go to the palace with the High Priest."

The child's smile disappeared and tears pooled in her eyes. "Why? Have I been a bad girl, mommy?"

"No, my beloved. You are going to live with the High Priest and help him."

Aria sobbed. "But, mommy, I don't want to leave you!" Aria hugged her mother tightly. "I can't leave you, mommy! I'll never see my daddy again!"

Her mother held her close, kissing the white, spiky hair below her chin. "It's better if you go with the High Priest, my beloved. You will be fed well and clothed in the best linens."

"But I can't live without you, mommy! Please don't let me go!"

Seth handed a bag to the owner and kneeled behind Aria. "Aria Kanika?"

The three year old child turned around. "Yes, sir?"

"Mommy wants you to be a big girl. You will have everything you always wanted."

The child continued to protest. "Mommy is all I have, sir."

Seth nodded. "I know. But your mommy may join us. This may not be for a long time. I promise to take good care of you, Aria."

Rayna kissed her cheek. "Go with him, baby girl. I will not be gone long."

Aria and the mother hugged and kissed.

"Don't forget me, mommy."

"Never forget, baby girl, that your father, Bakura, and I love you very much."

Aria turned and took the High Priest's hand. Seth once again stared into her brown eyes which were large and full of tears.

"Come with me, Aria Kanika."

Aria turned and waved goodbye as Seth lead her out of the brothel. She looked up at Seth.

"Where are we going, sir?"

"Home to the palace, Aria."

The chariot left as Aria turned to the brothel again. "Goodbye, mommy."

*********End of Dream*******************

Aria woke up again. She shivered in the cold darkness. In the sky, the first rays of dawn were coloring the sky deep reds and purples.

She crawled over to the lake and sipped the water. She gently woke the puppy from its slumber.

"Wake up, puppy. We have to find Seth," Aria said quietly. "Seth isn't far away. I can feel him…But, how can I? Unkie Seto is far away. This is Egypt. Unkie Seto is far across the sea. Let's go, puppy."

Aria stomach rumbled again with hunger as she walked along the sands, feeling something pull her towards the Valley of The Kings.

***************************

Aten opened his eyes and moved his arm with a tiny whimper. "My arm hurts. Need mecidation."

Aten crawled off the high bed and carried his toy monkey in his arms. He yawned, rubbing his eyes tiredly.

He stopped short when he saw Rhonda in the hallway coloring with red crayon on the white walls. "Rhonna! Unkie Tristan's gonna be mad at you! That's not nize!"

Rhonda shrugged her shoulders. "So? I'm a princess and I can do anything I want!"

Aten looked over at her drawing of Otogi in a princess gown with fairy wings and a wand. "Unkie Togi doesn't loot lite that, Rhonna!"

Rhonda laughed. "He sure does! He's a little pixie!"

Aten narrowed his eyes. "He is not! Unkie Togi is a good man and he's very nize!" Aten winced as his heart threatened to become stressed, but he could feel the pacemaker steadying his heartbeat.

"My daddy says that what Uncle Tristan and his little pixie are wrong! And my daddy is the smartest man in the world! He's smarter than your daddy!"

"Is not!" Aten growled, stamping his foot angrily.

Rhonda laughed. "Is too! Uncle Tristan is nothing but a pixie, too! Oh, wait! They're fairies! I forgot! You're probably going to be one, too, when you grow up. Then you'll be a freak and a fairy!"

Aten let out a growl and darted for Rhonda. He grabbed her nightgown and shoved her against the wall. "You don't speat about my Unkie Tristan and Unkie Togi that way!"

Rhonda laughed. "You can't hurt me, freak!"

Aten's eyes filled with tears. "I am not a freak!"

"Yes, you are! You're a dirty, fat, ugly, worthless freak, Aten!"

Aten's grip on Rhonda loosened as her insults overpowered him.

"I got your germs on me now! I got Aten germs! Get them off!"

Aten's hands slipped from Rhonda as the girl darted to the bathroom. Aten slipped down to sit in the hallway as the water ran in the bathroom.

Rhonda emerged with a spray bottle full of water. She sprayed herself. "Now I'm free of Aten germs! I got Aten Spray now!"

She sprayed her arms and her dress with water. "Here, Aten! Hold still!"

Rhonda ran for Aten. Aten stood up and ran away. Rhonda pursued him, spraying Aten with the "Aten Spray." Aten felt the pacemaker struggle to keep up with his abnormal heart rhythm. The struggle made his chest cramp and he fell to his knees in the living room.

Rhonda laughed loudly, spraying Aten with the spray bottle.

In the bedroom, Tristan and Otogi woke to Rhonda's laughter and Aten's whimpering. They jumped out of bed and found Rhonda spraying Aten with a spray bottle and the boy panting, clutching his chest in pain.

"Aten!" Otogi ran to Aten, kneeling beside the boy.

"Rhonda!" Tristan grabbed Rhonda and growled. "What are you doing to Aten?"

"Nothing! Why?"

Otogi narrowed his eyes, rubbing Aten's back. "If you did nothing, why is Aten struggling to breathe?"

Tristan brought Rhonda over to the couch and put her across his knee. He spanked her again and put her on her feet.

Rhonda cried again and ran into the spare bedroom and shut the door.

Tristan picked Aten up and sat him on the kitchen table. "Aten, breathe deep. Otogi, get his medication."

Otogi went into the cabinet where they held Aten's medication. Otogi opened the bottle and brought out one pill. He poured Aten a glass of water.

"Take these, little monkey."

Aten swallowed the pill with a gulp of water. The boy reached out to Otogi and wrapped his arms around Otogi's chest. He rested his head against Otogi's chest and breathed slowly, listening to Otogi's heartbeat.

"Take deep breaths, little man. That's it," Tristan coached him. "Otogi, Rhonda can't stay here anymore. If she stays here one more day, I'm going to be convicted of the premeditated manslaughter of Rhonda."

Otogi caressed the white and blond hair of the boy clutching onto him. "Your brother comes back tomorrow."

Tristan clenched his fists. "I'm going to kill her, Otogi. Seriously."

Otogi nodded. "I know how you feel, Tris, but we can't…as much as I would love to."

Aten took a deep breath and sighed. "Sorry, Unkie Togi."

"For what?"

"For waiting you up from your sleep."

Tristan shook his head. "Aten, we couldn't let Rhonda torment you. Just relax. I thought his pacemaker was supposed to prevent his heart from hurting."

Aten sniffled. "Nothing will stop my heart from hurting. Dotor Zira told me this would not mate my heart hurt anymore."

Otogi kissed the top of the chibi's head. "Aten, you're upset. Maybe your pacemaker has to work harder to keep your heartbeat steady when you are upset."

Aten shrugged. "I don't know. It hurt, though."

"I know it did, little monkey," Otogi said, kissing the boy's forehead.

Tristan kissed the chibi's forehead. "Let me go talk to the princess. Otogi, you may want to take Aten somewhere else so he doesn't hear me raise my voice."

Tristan stepped out into the hallway. "She colored with red crayon on the white walls, Otogi! Rhonda Jane Taylor!"

Otogi picked Aten up and ran to see the drawing depicting him as a pixie. "Rhonda! I am not a pixie! Let's go downstairs, Aten. I can show you the coin fountain while Tristan talks to Rhonda."

"Tan I thow in toins?"

Otogi grabbed a handful of pennies and left the apartment with Aten. They left the apartment and entered the elevator. The elevator stopped and the doors opened.

The man stood there and rolled his eyes.

"Are you coming on?" Otogi asked politely.

"I'll wait for the non-gay elevator."

Otogi crossed his arms. "Fine." Otogi pushed the button and closed the doors. "I tell you, Aten. Tristan and I have to get out of this apartment building."

Aten nodded. "Robbie and I were playing outside and Mr. Gillam talled Robbie and I a bad word for people who are gay. Juss betaws Robbie and I were tittling eash other doesn't mate us gay!"

"What were you doing?"

"Tittling. You know…tittle."

"Tickle?"

Aten nodded. "Yeah. Tittle."

Otogi shook his head. "Some people jump to conclusions, Aten. Some people think I got some kind of disease because I'm gay, but, you know what? Their opinions don't matter. Only Tristan's matter…and you and your family's. I'm happy with who I am, so it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks."

Aten smiled and hugged Otogi's leg. "I bet you they tant mate Anshel Food Tate as well as you!" The elevator doors opened as a group of old ladies stood there. "You tan mate anything, Unkie Togi!"

The old ladies gasped as they heard Aten's declaration. Otogi's face turned red as he took Aten's hand. The ladies whispered quietly as they entered the elevator.

Aten ran to the coin fountain in the lobby and smiled, looking into the water. "It's so pretty! Loot at all those toins!"

Otogi sat by the fountain's edge, indulging in Aten's innocence. Aten stuck his finger in the water and shivered. "Told water."

Otogi handed Aten a penny. "Make a wish and throw the coin into the water, Aten."

Aten looked up at Otogi. "What do I wiss for?"

"Anything you want."

Aten bit his lip in thought as another little boy ran up to the fountain.

"Daddy, daddy, can I throw a penny in the fountain?"

The man shot a glaring look at Otogi. "Maybe later, son. This place isn't safe for you now."

The man pulled the kid away and Otogi sighed.

"We definitely have to find a new place."

Aten threw the coin in the fountain. He watched the penny splash and sink to the bottom of the fountain.

"I hope this wiss tums true."

*****************************

Tristan rejoiced when his brother returned a day earlier to take Rhonda home. Rhonda cried her eyes out, telling her how mean Tristan and Otogi had been towards her. Tristan showed his brother the drawing that Rhonda drew on the wall and his brother laughed.

"You should have made Otogi's boobs a little bigger, princess. They're too small."

Tristan crossed his arms. "The least you could do is thank me for watching your brat instead of insulting Otogi. Otogi is not a woman!"

Tristan's brother laughed. "Please. He's more of a woman than your last girlfriend!"

"Serenity? She couldn't accept me for who I was! I told her I was bisexual and she dumped me."

His brother rolled his eyes. "You could have stayed with her anyway."

"That would be living a lie. I can't do that. I love Otogi."

The brother shook his head. "Otogi is no good for you, Tris. He's a pansy! He's feminine! You may be queer, but at least you don't act like it!"

"Show me how to make Otogi's boobs bigger!" Rhonda said, handing him the red crayon.

Tristan watched in shock as his brother grabbed a crown and made larger breasts. "There. Are they big enough for you, Tris?"

Tristan growled, pointing to the door. "GET OUT OF MY APARTMENT! BOTH OF YOU!"

Tristan opened the door. "Both of you get your asses out of my home!"

Otogi and Aten walked up the hallway. Aten ran behind Otogi, cowering from the sight of Rhonda and her father.

"I don't give a shit what you call me, you homophobic son-of-a-bitch. But, I will not...WILL NOT…let you tear Otogi and I apart!"

Otogi took Aten's hand and walked up to Tristan slowly. Tristan wrapped his arm around Otogi's shoulder and hugged him. "Otogi is special to me. I love him and if you can't accept it, it's your problem, not mine."

Rhonda looked down at Aten. "Goodbye, FREAK!"

Aten shivered and ran behind Tristan and into the apartment.

Tristan tightened his fist. "You and your daughter are made for each other. You both are miserable people! Find someone else to babysit your little brat! Come inside, Otogi."

Tristan slammed the door in his brother's face and clutched onto Otogi. Otogi was shaking. Tristan knew his lover was intimidated by his brother.

"He's gone, Otogi. I'm through with him."

Otogi nodded. "I love you, Tristan."

Tristan kissed the raven hair below his chin. His hazel eyes scanned the room.

No Aten.

"Aten?"

Otogi looked around. "Aten?"

Tristan separated from Otogi and ran into the kitchen. "Search the spare bedroom."

Otogi ran into the spare bedroom and searched under the bed and in the closet. "Not in here!"

Tristan bellowed from the kitchen. "Not in here!"

Otogi ran into the bedroom he shared with Tristan and found Aten under the bed sheets, completely concealed.

"He's in here, Tristan! Aten? Aten, are you okay?"

Aten lifted the covers. Tristan ran into the room and saw Aten clutching Tristan's stuffed tiger plushie against his chest.

Tristan never told anyone he enjoyed sleeping with this tiger plushie when Otogi wasn't spending the night. He wondered how Aten managed to find it since he hid it from everyone's view. The brunet knew the Egyptian boy had a penchant for finding something soft to snuggle into.

"Aten?"

Aten's eyes watered. "She talled me a freak!" Aten broke into heart-wrenching sobs. Otogi and Tristan sat on both sides and rubbed his back.

"Aten, you're not a freak. You're special."

Aten sobbed harder. "I'm not pesshel to anyone!"

Otogi shook his head. "That's not true. You're lucky to have parents who love you." Tristan noticed his lover's eyes become glassy. "Your mother and father love you. Daddy Bakura and Malik love you."

Aten shuddered. "But I'm not their tid!"

Tristan leaned over. "You know what? You're not our kid, but we still love you. We still think you're special. We think you're the coolest kid we know!"

Aten looked up, rubbing his brown right eye while the purple eye seeped tears. "Really?"

Tristan and Otogi nodded. "We sure do! We think you are awesome!"

Otogi squinted, looking into Aten's two different colored eyes. "I wish I had two eyes which were different colors."

"I wish I had hair like yours, Aten."

Aten smiled and wiped his eyes dry. "Really?"

Tristan ruffled the chibi's hair. "I've never lied to you, Aten. I never would lie to you. We love you too much to hurt your feelings."

Aten sniffled and smiled. "I love you, too, Unkie Tristan and Unkie Togi."

Otogi and Tristan hugged and kissed the boy's cheek. "We better get you home to your mommy."

Aten smiled. "I miss my mommy….and Robbie."

*************************

Tristan and Otogi took Aten home. They entered the house and saw Marik laying on the couch, panting heavily. His skin was pale and his forehead was covered in sweat.

Ryou walked down the steps with an empty tray of food.

"Returning your chibi, Ryou."

Ryou put the tray on the coffee table and hugged Aten. "How's my baby boy feeling?"

Aten hugged his mother and looked at Marik on the couch. "What's wrong with daddy?"

"Daddy's not feeling well, baby."

Malik came out of the kitchen with a cold glass of water. He kneeled beside his yami and carefully held it to his lips. "Be careful, Marik."

Tristan watched Marik sip carefully. Otogi looked up the stairs as he heard wailing come from Bakura's room.

"What's wrong with Daddy Bakura?"

"He's not feeling well, baby," Ryou said putting Aten on the ground.

Aten ran to his father. "Daddy?" Aten stroked Marik's cheek. "My daddy……"

Marik coughed into his hand and hid it under the blanket to conceal the dust. "Can't stay here….must…look for …..Aria."

Malik pushed his back down slowly. "Yami, you can't get up."

Ryou took the tray into the kitchen and poured a cold glass of water for Bakura. Aten watched as his mother ran up the stairs with the drink.

Malik brought the chibi into his arms. "Did he behave for you guys?"

Otogi smiled. "Aten always behaves. He's a good kid."

Malik kissed the chibi's forehead. "We know he is."

"Malik, did Unkie Seto find Aria yet?"

Malik shook his head. "Not yet."

Aten sighed. "Tan I go see Robbie?"

Malik looked up at Tristan and Otogi. "Can you take him to Miranda's? We don't want Aten to go anywhere alone after Aria's disappearance."

Otogi took Aten's hand. "Let's go, little monkey."

Otogi and Tristan took Aten to Robbie's house. Daniel answered the door.

"Oh, Aten! We're glad to see you! Come in."

Tristan and Otogi entered. Miranda came from upstairs. "Aten! Aten!"

Tristan and Otogi watched as Miranda ran down the stairs.

"Aten, we need you to come upstairs and speak to Robbie."

Tristan looked up at Daniel. "Is Robbie sick?"

Daniel shook his head. "Robbie was abducted when Aria disappeared. Aria's friend Umi found him on the waterfront nailed in a crate."

Otogi gasped and covered his mouth. "Oh my! Is he okay?"

Aten's eyes watered. "Robbie was hurt? Where is he?"

"He's in his room."

Aten ran up the stairs as Daniel wrapped his arms around Miranda.

Tristan put his arm around Otogi. "How has he been?"

"He hasn't slept and I can't get him to eat. Aten always makes Robbie feel better. Nothing I say is getting through to him."

Aten rushed up the stairs and knocked on Robbie's door. "Robbie? It's Aten."

"A-Aten?"

"Tan I tum in?"

Robbie gulped. "Yes."

Aten entered the bright room. His friend was sitting on his bed against the wall. Aten ran to him and jumped onto the bed.

Robbie was in his pygamas. His eyes were red and bloodshot.

"Hello, Robbie!"

Robbie grabbed Aten and pulled him against his body, shaking. Aten winced as Robbie pressed against his incision.

"Ow. Robbie…ow."

Robbie whimpered into the white and blond hair. "Someone took Aria! Aten, they're going to come after me!"

Aten took a deep breath. "Robbie, nobody is going to tum after you."

Robbie nodded. "I was put in this dark box! The guy tied me up and nailed me in! I couldn't get out!"

Aten wrapped his arms around Robbie. "I missed you, Robbie."

"Aten, I thought I'd never see you again!"

Aten leaned up and kissed Robbie's chin. Aten snuggled into Robbie's chest.

Robbie looked down at his friend and started caressing the white and blond hair. Aten could feel Robbie's body relax as Robbie caressed his hair.

A contented sigh came out of Robbie.

"I was scared, Aten. I didn't know if I would see you, mommy, or daddy again. I was so afraid!"

Aten sighed. "I was stared before my heart opteration. And I was stared that my heart would stop. I would be sad if it did betaws I never would say goodbye to you."

Robbie and Aten looked into each other's eyes and snuggled into the other.

Robbie and Aten took a satisfied sigh.
