5: Interlude: How they met again
Three years later
Katsuya Jounouchi walked trough the halls of Domino High together with his best friend Hiroto Honda. The two of them had been inseparable ever since three years ago when they had joined Hirutanis gang. Fortunately they weren’t members anymore, they were even angry with themselves for ever joining. It had started innocently enough trough. Hirutani had offered them action and sanctuary. Honda lived in a home someone could just call plain boring. His mother was a lawyer and his dad a doctor. They expected Honda to be the picture-perfect-son. Neat cloth, good grads, boring neat friends and of course he was expected to become a lawyer or a doctor himself. Something honourable. Honda had simply had enough of his boring life and joining Hirotanis gang was his way of rebellion.
Katsuya, who had been “Jou” ever since that day, had been desperate for some company. His mother hated him and ignored him most off the time which seated Jou just fine otherwise she would have probably forced him to join her every Saturday to praise her lord. ´The One´ as she called him. Jou didn’t want to have anything to do with any sect. But it did hurt that his mother wouldn’t show any interest in him. Fortunately he still had his sister and even though Mrs. Kawaii tried to keep them away from each they would often sneak out to simply talk to each other. Shizuka however, was forced to go with her mother every Saturday, but fortunately she didn’t believe the whole crap. For her it was rather boring to listen to a guy who would talk about apocalypse, sins and punishments. Jou was very glad about that.
So joining Hirutanis gang had been a heaven-sent for the two off them at that time. That had ended when their ´innocent´ games off stealing food from the marked and bullying kids had advanced to robbing old ladies and beating kids.
They hadn’t liked doing it, but by them it was clear to them that quitting wouldn’t be an easy task. They had seen guys before who had tried and had gotten the beating of their life’s, so Jou and Honda hadn’t really seriously considered quitting until the day Hirutani advanced Jou.
Hirutani had been interested in Jou since day one, but didn’t want to frighten boy away then, but after two and a half years his patients had run out. He had tried to woo the boy to him gently, but hadn’t succeeded, so he tried it a different way . It was Jou’s luck that Honda found them just on time. Hirutani had Jou on his knees his manhood firmly in his hand and just about to be press into Jou’s mouth. Honda, after punching Hirutani griped Jou and the two of them run for their life’s.
On that day it had become clear to of them that they would have to quit, whatever beating they would get.
And they had gotten it. Oh how they had gotten it. At that time they were sure to die, but that was when Yugi appeared. Yugi whom they had beaten so many times. Yugi whom they had bullied and robbed so often at school.
He was accompanied by some strange guy. Jou and Honda had never see him before. He looked just like Yugi just a bit taller darker eyes and skin. That guy was the one who defeated Hirutani and his mop. To Honda and Jou it seamed like magic but they couldn’t be sure. They were quite delirious from all the blood lost by then. Later in the hospital Yugi introduced the look-alike as his distend cousin Yami. Neither Honda nor Jou really believed him but hey, the guy saved them and that’s all that mattered.
Since that day Yugi and Yami had become their friends. Especially Yugi became very important to Jou. Honda was and would always be Jou’s best friend, someone he could count on, but Yugi…Yugi was like a little older brother to him. Whenever Jou forgot his lunch Yugi would share his, whenever Jou forgot his homework Yugi would scold him but let him copy anyway, whenever Jou was sad Yugi would lend him a shoulder to cry on. Jou could talk about everything with Yugi…he could so too with Honda but Honda was more a boy of actions than off words and sometimes Jou just needed someone who would tell him that everything was going to be alright.
Jou hadn’t told Yugi everything about his childhood- it still hurt to much and Jou was embarrassed- but he did tell him that he one had had two brothers who meant the world to him but who hated him now.
He missed Seto and Mokuba dearly, but at least Jou knew now that the two of them were safe. He had been shocked when he had first read about it in the papers half a year ago. It was on the front page. ´CEO of KaibaCorp died trough suicide´ was the headline. The paper reported that Gozaburo Kaiba had seemingly committed suicide by jumping out off his office window on the top floor. Katsuya rather suspected that one of his business rivals had had their hands in it –Gozaburo simply wasn’t the kind of person to attempt suicide- but either way Jou didn’t care much. He was only grateful that the monster had finally vanished from this planet and that Seto (who was ,according to the article, KaibaCorps new CEO and had gotten guardianship over Mokuba) -and Mokuba could live in peace. That had been half a year ago and he handed heard anything about Seto or KaibaCorp anymore. That was until today as Jou would discover any moment
Jou and Honda were just walking around the corner when they saw a tall brown-haired guy with his back to them. He was snarling at a teary Yugi.
“Don’t tell me you are starting to cry now. Just my luck to be stuck with a pathetic whim like you. Just tell me were the chemistry lap is and I will leave you can run to your friends- if you even have any.”
“Hey, what are you doing to Yugi?” Jou growled out.

When Katsuya had left the Kaiba mansion things had changed there. Gozaburo was demanding even more of Seto than ever before. His methods of teaching got meaner and more sadistic every time. Gozaburo never actually laid hand on Seto- his other methods were so much more enjoyable and satisfactory to him. Sometimes he would chain Seto to a chair and every time the boys eyes would shut close he would empty an ice-cold bottle of water over the boys head- leaving him in is cold and we cloths until Seto had finished his studying to Gozaburo’s satisfaction. Other times he would drug Seto so that the boy wouldn’t be able to fell asleep until he fainted of exhaustion.
Seto rarely complained. Katsuya’s betrayal had numbed him and he didn’t care for anything anymore. He just wanted -no, needed to guarantee Mokuba a secure future even if that would mean coping with Gozaburo’s sadism.
Little did Seto know, that Gozaburo would let out all his frustration, of not being able to break Seto, on Mokuba. Every night when the small boy went to bed he was all black and blue from Gozaburo’s beatings. That was until half a year ago, when Gozaburo made the mistake of hitting Mokuba in the face. Seto soon discovered Mokubas other wounds- new and old alike. Mokuba didn’t dare tell his brother were his wounds came from, but Seto knew anyway- there simply was no other possible person than their step-father. Raving with anger he ran over to Gozaburo office and confronted him. The bastard didn’t even tried to deny it. With a angry cry Seto had lunched himself on the man. Not having seen it coming Gozaburo stumbled over his own feet and came close to fall out of the window but he caught himself at the last moment. “Insolent boy, wait until we are home. I will give you a beating even Mokuba has never dreamed off.” Gozaburo yelled. Seto’s momentary subsided anger flared up again and he pushed Gozaburo the last cm. to his death. He had a look of satisfaction on his face when he saw the man falling to his death, that was until he could read Gozaburo’s eyes. Until he could see himself reflected in them, could see that Gozaburo saw him as his murderer. It dawned on him that he really was a murderer. He was responsible for this mans death. Seto was so scared that moment that he simply flew the office. No one had know he had been there so the police just assumed Gozaburo had committed suicide they never suspected is stepson to have anything to do with his death.
After that Seto hadn’t ever talked to anyone about it. He had hated the man and after seeing the marks on Mokuba he had wanted the man to suffer but to die…Seto had never wanted to be a murderer and Gozaburo’s expression the moment he identified Seto as his murderer haunted Seto ever since then. But Gozaburo’s training had worked very well. Seto didn’t show ay emotions and he hid himself and his fears behind a ice-cold manner and gaze- like now.
Seto Kaiba glared at the boy beside him. He was annoyed to no end. First the principal had talked non-stop, telling him of what an honour it was to have him as a student at Domino-high and now he was stuck with some teachers pet to show him around the school building. The small guy was terribly getting on Seto’s nerves. Not that he just looked ridicules with his height and three coloured hair but too that he tried to woo Seto into accepting his friendship. When the boy offered a third time to introduce him to his friends Seto snapped. “Be quite already! Cant you see I am not the least interested in meeting any of YOUR friends. I am fed up enough with you already.”
“I…I’m sorry Kaiba, I just wanted to make your first day here easy for you. I…I know how it is when nobody talks to you and…”
Seto rolled his eyes and Yugi was nearing tears. He hated it when people weren’t taking him serious. He just wanted to be nice and…
“Don’t tell me you are starting to cry now. Just my luck to be stuck with a pathetic wimp like you. Just tell me were the chemistry lap is and I will leave you can run to your friends- if you even have any.”
“Hey, what are you doing to Yugi?” Seto heard someone growling.
