Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Thursday ❯ Chapter One ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

As Joey Wheeler arose from his bed, groggily, a young, very successful businessman, Seto Kaiba, was also awake but much more alert.

But despite the differing start, they both had the exact same routine to follow. And Joey knew it.
`Damn Kaiba. I'll keep my cool today. I have to.' He thought, beginning the pep-talk to himself, as he did every Thursday morning. Thursday was the only day when Joey could not escape Seto Kaiba, for their schedules were exactly the same, even down to the last study hall minute. It had not been a welcome discovery for either party, with the first Thursday going down amid several mentions of; `hate', `stalker' and `back off <insert name here>'.

For the whole year this had continued. Until Joey found himself almost enjoying Kaiba's insults. Joey couldn't help but respond, but due to a sudden change of heart, he was suddenly more tolerant.

They both arrived at school at the same time, Joey on his pushbike and Kaiba in a state-of-the-art limousine.
“Wheels not fallen off yet, Wheeler?” Seto Kaiba sneered.
“Nah, but I know a few people who could do a great job on that pretty little car of yours.” Joey answered, quickly, without a trace of annoyance in his face.
Kaiba walked away, seemingly taken aback by this. But he wasn't to dignify it with an unworthy response, he thought.

“You okay, Joey?” Yugi Moto asked, catching up with his best friend as he walked into school.
“I'm fine, Yug. Why'd you ask?” He asked, looking fondly at his smaller friend.
“That there with Kaiba. It was…not like you Joey!”
“Nah it wasn't. But I'm keeping my cool from now on. That good for nothing punk ain't gonna get to me anymore!” He said, grinning as they entered first class.

If Yugi was worried about this sudden revelation, he didn't show it, but instead trailed off of the subject as they went to find their seats next to Tristan Taylor and Téa Gardner, the other two in their group. Over in the far corner, Seto Kaiba sat glumly, Yugi noticed as he snatched a quick glance over. Seto Kaiba was sat staring out of the classroom window, his head resting in his hand, looking extremely bored.
Kaiba usually looked this way on a Thursday, as he knew that after first class, he would be stuck to Joey. He couldn't escape. Not that, these days, he wanted to, but it was good for the image. In fact if truth be told, Kaiba was glad of the company. The nearest thing he had ever had to real company before, was KaibaCorp. His company. He didn't even care that it was Joey. Anything for a conversation was good enough for Kaiba.

Unfortunatley, Joey hadn't always felt the same way. It was only in the past month he had realised that it wasn't all that bad. Joey used to be so full of hatred come Thursday that even his friends, his best friends in the world, would avoid him. But now he seemed much calmer. He didn't mind Kaiba's company much, and he knew deep down that Kaiba was grateful for Joey's. Not that he would ever dare admit it.
It had taken him two years just to admit that he would consider Yugi an `acquaintance'. It was a start, but he couldn't bring himself to say `friend'.
