Katie:Ok, This is my first fic so please don’t be too hard on me. I got the inspiration for this at 3 in the morning. This takes place after the Battle Royale in Alucatrez. I hope at least someone out there likes it…Doesn’t have it now but will be Yaoi later. S/J,Seth/J, and S/J/Seth
“I place one card in defense and lay two cards face down. End turn”
Katsuya Jonouchi watched his opponent draw a card, trying not to show the nervousness he felt. In the back of his mind he was kicking himself for being a stupid idiot. Why had he been so bent on dueling Marik of all people? He could feel the shivery sensation of the shadow realm around him feeding his fear. Although he had thought of it after what had happened to Mai, he had managed to cool down enough to realize that he would most likely die in the attempt…better to leave it to Mou Hitori no Yugi. All rational thought, however, had flown out the window during the Battle Royale to decide the duels for the semi finals.
It all came down to Kaiba's taunts that he always had to hide behind Yugi. That no matter how many times he had convinced himself that he could protect his friends, they usually came out protecting him. It made him feel like the dog that the blue eyed CEO had always referred to him as. His mind had become clouded with anger and a thirst to prove to Kaiba that he could do things himself.
After that he had used his dueling skills to take down Marik, deliberately leaving himself open to the other two duelists. He was the next to lose and thus the one who would duel the psychotic Egyptian in the semi-finals.
Now here he was, in a Shadow Game, dueling some psychotic bastard... and why? It was Kaiba's fault, he decided, breaking his gaze from the duel at hand for a momentary glance at the brunette. Oh so easy to hate as he stood there smirking. But…other images of this same person came unbidden to his mind …he bit his lip tearing his attention back to the arena wincing as Marik attacked one of his face down monsters, he panicked, he had forgotten which card he had placed… he watched nervously as it was revealed then sighed, Time Wizard, that could be good or bad. Now that it had been flipped its effect would be activated. He watched in apprehension as the dial on the time wizards nose began to spin. Would it halve his already meager life points, or destroy Marik's creature?
Spinspinspinspin…spin…spin…………..spin…stop. on a line in between the skull and the time magic.
Jonouchi waited for it to jump to one or the other as it always had in the past and felt a strange chill go down his spine when it didn’t move. The shadows seemed to grow darker and thicker…almost palpable. He saw Marik’s smirking as a voice in his head sneered “The shadow realm has its own rules…”
The time wizard turned to face him and a deeper chill ran through him numbing his limbs… he looked towards his friends who were running towards him their mouths moving, but he couldn’t hear what they were saying. His eyes wandered back past them to a frozen figure in white and the last thing he saw before darkness enveloped him was a pair of ice blue eyes…
To be continued…
Ending note:I’m sorry this chapter is so sucky and short but its mainly the set up for what happens next… which I have planned but I don’t have the time to finish right now since I need sleep… have class tomorrow. I am only posting this tonight for two reasons. 1) Im too tired to think about what I’m doing so I can’t lose my nerve. And 2) Once I get it posted I’ll have no excuse not to finish chapter 2…
