Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Time's Up ❯ Beginning of Jaden's Story ( Chapter 2 )
It was raining...again.
'Lucky me, always seems to get caught in the
downpour', though Jaden.
Walking alone in the back alley's of Domino City, she saw a small back door with a rather large over hang.
"Ah! Shelter!", exclaimed Jaden. She ran over to it and relished in the dry, yet cool space. She fell back against the cold brick of the building until she was sitting on the dry wooden steps. She put her head onto her pulled up knees and watched as the rain formed puddles all around her.
Jaden heard a commotion coming from the end of the alley, just around the corner. She moved only her eyes to see if it was any of the other kids she knew. Maybe the had something to eat...
"Let me go! Stop it! Let me go!", screamed a young kids voice.
'Nope, not food this time', thought Jaden. With a small grunt she got up and ran back into the rain. Hurrying towards the noise she saw a pipe about three feet long and slim. Without tripping she swooped it up and rounded the corner. She couldn't see who was in the middle of the group, but, unfortunately she knew the group. They didn't really have a name for themselves, but whoever crossed their paths usually ended up dead or died soon after their encounter with them.
Jaden tightened her grip on the pipe and lowered her body to get a better view of the kid who got himself in a heap of touble. A movement from one of the members got her a good look at the kid. He was a small kid with long black hair. And he was dressed like a little kid. Nothing that stood out. But then Jaden got a look at his eyes. Scared-but not going to back down. Without having to wait for another second Jaden ran into the group to get the kid. She managed to hit the four guys in the front of the group and the last three that were on the other side as she grabbed the boys' hand and managed to dash away with both their lives.
With stopping she peered down at him. He was running to keep up with her and he was panting.
'Well he can breathe when we get somewhere safe', thought Jaden.
After making a few more turns, they ran up an old wooden stair-case. She found the long hidden key above the door freame and let them selves in. Jaden didn't bother turning on any lights. She finally let go of the kid and walked away. She grabbed him a blanket off her bed and went back to wrap it around the kid.
She led him over to the window, where some light came through. After the kid stopped shivering, he started to talk.
"Thankd you. Who are you?", asked the boy.
"You're welcome. I'm Jaden, and you?"
"Mokuba".
"Alright MOduba, how'd you let those guys get you alone?".
Mokuba's eyes became blacker and wide, and then heslowly lowered his eyes to the floor. He took a deep breath.
"I got tired of playing inside, so I decided to come to the markets and ran into a couple of my friends, but one of those big guys grabed me and dragged me back in the alley. He said that he'd ransom me to my brother!" he hand leaned forward towards Jaden as he was speaking.
They were quiet for a few moments until he began to speak again.
"What about you? What were you doing out in the alley?
Jaden turned her head from the window and back to Mokuba. She gave a small crooked smile and decided to be blunt with him.
"I have lived on the streets for almost a year, that's what I was doing in the alley. I heard voices and thought that perhaps there was a small gathering of my friends and that maybe someone had some good luck and brought food. Does that satisfy you?" Jaden asked sourly.
Mokuba nodded his head. As his eyes began to wander around the dwelling she continued on...
"And this is my temporary home. If I can manage to get a job, I'll usually be paid in housing, food, or money. One or all three if I am lucky. This place belongs to my current boss, who doesn't use it anymore, so it was given to me for free, for as long as need be. Or until he fires me." Jaden giggled softly.
"If I hadn't known any better, i wouldn't have thought that YOU lived out on the streets..."
"I think I'm going to take that as a compliment. But now I think would be a good time to get you home before-"
Jaden was caught off by the voices coming from below them. And wouldn't you guess it...it was four of the original seven that Jaden had got Mokuba away from.
"Oh look Mokuba, idiots really do travel in packs..." Jaden said. Mokuba looked a little scared and she didn't blame him. She stood up and walked back to the door.
"Don't leave until either you see them disappear and don't show again for a while. THen you can leave this room and get back home. Or if I am still conscious, I'll call for you. Whatever happens, stay here!" Jaden commanded and grabbing the pipe she used before, left the little room. Mokuba could hear the sound of the front door locking.
She went down the steps and followed the voices. She peered around the corner and saw them there. Still armed with the pipe, she stepped out.
"Hey, don't you guys have anything better to do?" she yelled out.
They all stopped talking and stared at her. Seemingly synchronized they all started yelling and running after her.
Mokuba was watching his new friend out of the window. He sucked in his breath as the group started yelling and running towards her. A sick knot started twisting in his stomach as he watched the girl steel herself for the first jerk to reach her.
The first two guys wound up getting blows to the head. They both fell over to the ground and stayed there. The next two learned the first two's mistakes and managed to avoid the pipe. The bigger one managed to knock the pipe out of her hands and the other one landed a kick in Jaden's side.
Jaden moved in time to avoid the other guys attack but wound up moving closer to the bigger guy who took his opportunity and punched her in the stomach. He had the pipe but threw it down and preferred to start using his own bare hands to keep beating her. Tears were streaming down Mokuba's face. Just as he was going to move and get out there, a brilliant light drowned out the alley below him. The light was so intense that Mokuba had to move away from the window, to protect his eyes. When he felt the intensity of the light die down, he looked back out and saw everyone laying down on the ground. Mokuba sat frozen by the window...Jaden..she looked so ...lifeless.
Jaden felt the damp earth agaisnt her skin and slowly she opened her eyes. All four thugs were on the ground and clearly weren't going to be getting up from their naps for awhile. Jaden pushed herself up with her arms and then shakily stood up.
Mokuba gasped as he saw Jaden stand up and look around. He dashed out from the room as Jaden looked and saw who the light and help had come from.
Mokuba reached her but just as he was about to stand in front of her, Jaden grabbed him and threw him behind her.
"You should've stayed until I said something." Jaden whispered over her shoulder. Mokuba looked towards the front of the alley to see who was there. Mokuba's eyes grew wide with disbelief.
"Yugi! How did you guys find me!?", he yelled jumping from behind Jaden. Jaden relaxed her pose to strike and let Mokuba run towards his tri-colored haired friend. Jaden could make out some more individuals behind this Yugi person, who were coming forward at the sight of Mokuba.
"Mokuba, you should probably head home now." Yugi said, not taking his off of Jaden. Jaden felt the same way.
"Yeah, I have to get going before Seto finds out what happend...C'mon Jaden! I want you to come home with me." he shouted. Jaden walked over with a cocked eyebrow.
"Oh really now? I think I'll escort you home to make sure you get there safely, at least." she said. She turned to Yugi. As she stared into his eyes, she penetrated her mind with his.
"Wha-", Yugi exclaimed taking a step back from her. He raised his hand in a fist in front of him and narrowed his eyes at her.
"I demand to know who you are." he growled out.
Jaden reeled inside but didn't let it show. No one ever knew or even sensed when she was prodding their minds. That meant that this wasn't a normal person. He had to have a millennium item!
