Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Trust Me ❯ Betrayal and Anguish ( Chapter 6 )
Priestess: Well, wasn't that interesting? *Sweatdrop*

Namu felt immensely nervous as he followed Akunadin/Necrophadisu down the palace halls. But his cheek still ached, so he pressed his lips together and didn't say a word and silently prayed to every god he had ever heard of and even some he had just made up.
"Here."
Namu jumped at the unexpected sound, and saw to his surprise that Akunadin/Necrophadisu had stopped in front of a large door and pushed it open. "You sleep here. Make sure you aren't ever seen, all right?"
Namu nodded timidly and entered the large room, pausing when he heard Necrophadisu speak again.
"It's foolish, his infatuation with you, and infuriating that he will not simply obey me and be rid of you. A word of advice, child. If Nahkti continues falling in love with you, he may soon be of no use to me. I suggest you pray that will not happen.

"It isn't fair."
"Nahkti, you should know better," Necrophadisu replied. "You said it yourself, nothing is ever fair. That is the way life is. And I fear you are making a terrible mistake with that one."
"How so?"
"That child is dangerous. He has great power radiating from him, power to best the gods themselves. It is unnatural. Did you not see the way he destroyed Obelisk in a moment? He will destroy you as well."
"What?!" Nahkti exploded. "He's a child! What harm could he do? I don't care how powerful he is-he doesn't even know he has power!"
"Yes, and that makes him all the more dangerous," Necrophadisu replied ruthlessly. "He doesn't know his own strength, and he can't control it. It will burst out based on his emotions. He hates you, Nahkti. You will be the one to die next."
Nahkti still thought this was ridiculous, but he replied, "Well, how do you suppose we deal with this?"
Necrophadisu seemed to gaze at him-which was, of course, impossible due to his lack of eyes. Then he reached into one of Nahkti's invisible hiding places and drew out his knife. "Take the knife, Nahkti. Tomorrow, when he is sleeping, go there and cut his neck."

Namu took a deep breath as he walked down the halls, his head bent so no one would see his eyes. Unfortunately, this all so meant he couldn't see what was right in front of him. And that happened to mean he banged into somebody.
"Clumsy child! Why are you walking around with your head bowed?"
Namu glanced up, silently praying that whoever it was hadn't been at Nahkti's fight and seen him. No such luck.
"Hello?" Priest Seth snapped, not recognizing Namu due to some miracle. Maybe he had been too far away or small to see. After all, that Priestess who so stunningly resembled Isis had called him 'Malik.' Whoever that was. "Are you completely blind? Move aside!"
Namu wasn't even looking at the tall, daunting High Priest dressed in deep blue and bright gold. He was staring at the thing clutched in his hand-namely, the Millennium Rod. If he could just somehow reach up and grab it...
Priest Seth noticed his gaze and snapped, "Yes, it's the Millennium Rod. Have you never seen anything magical before?"
Namu didn't even hear this. He just kept his gaze on the Millennium Rod, wishing hopelessly that he could somehow get it with out Priest Seth even noticing it was gone.
Priest Seth glared at the child for a moment, before deciding he must be deaf and leaving with a snort.
He didn't even notice that the Millennium Rod had exchanged hands. Where mere moments ago he had been the one holding it, it was now being held tightly by none other than Namu.

Nahkti frowned slightly as he opened the door. Why had he even come? He knew very well he wasn't about to kill Namu, and he still stubbornly believed Necrophadisu was overreacting.
But he couldn't simply say, "I won't do it." Anyway, he wanted to see Namu again. Just because he needed a knife in his hand didn't mean he couldn't say hi.
Namu's eyes snapped open the moment he heard the creak of the door, and he tensed up slightly when he saw the silver knife above him. Then he recognized Nahkti and relaxed, his face splitting into a big smile. "I have to show you something."
"Huh?" Nahkti replied stupidly, feeling a bit confused as Namu searched under his pillow and proudly extracted something-Nahkti's jaw dropped and he nearly let go of the knife.
"Y-You have the Millennium Rod! But how did you manage to steal it in one day?" Inside, his heart was singing. If he told Necrophadisu this-there was no way he'd give up somebody who had stolen a Millennium Item on his first day trying.
"Seth's stupid," replied Namu proudly. "I pretended I couldn't hear and he was so irritated he didn't even notice that I had grabbed the Rod. Here."
"No," said Nahkti, handing the Rod back to Namu after staring at it and touching it. "You're going to need this. The other Priests aren't quite as stupid as Seth. And I'm sure he'll notice something-eventually."
Namu smiled as he put the Millennium Rod under the pillow again. But Nahkti wasn't smiling. Since he had thought the name `Necrophadisu', something strange had been going on inside him. He kept hearing Necrophadisu's voice inside his head, going "Kill the child. Kill him...kill him..."
"Namu?" His voice didn't sound like his own. The voice was becoming louder now, more insistent. "Kill...kill...kill...KILL."
Not noticing Necrophadisu's voice, but noticing the difference in Nahkti's, Namu glanced up. "Yes?" His eyes were warm and concerned. Was something wrong? He wondered. Nahkti was acting so unusual...
Suddenly, without any warning at all, the hand holding the knife plunged down. Nahkti heard Namu's scream and the sickening sound of metal slicing through flesh and bone. He saw Namu's eyes filled with tears of anguished disbelief...and he fled.
Without even thinking, he seized the knife and sprinted out the door.
As soon as he shut the door behind him, he realized he was surrounded by guards. He cursed under his breath. Of course somebody would have heard Namu's scream. It was quite loud.

Back in the bedroom, Namu fell back onto his bed and started to sob. In grief...and betrayal...and anguish.
