Jounouchi was sitting in class, trying his best to listen to the teacher; and to not go into a bout of hypothermia. He just didn't feel like going to tutoring again. And, trying to redeem himself for having another day in detention for being late, he decided to also participate and ignore the icy glare from the CEO in the very back of the class. As if it wasn’t cold enough, of course. Jounouchi shook his head and stared at the chalkboard with neatly written scribbles that announced to the class of their assignment that morning. The words began to whirl together in an abstract twirl of excitement and that unconsciously began to glow with unmentioned happiness, causing them to form a line and begin river dancing right in front of Jounouchi. This isn’t normal, thought Jounouchi before wandering his glistening, honeyed irises to the other classmates who shivered along with him, groaned along with him when extra homework was assigned, yawned along with him when ever the teacher began another lecture about cheese and it’s many uses to save the world from impending doom, and wondered along with him whether the teacher was an intergalactic space pirate who only came to earth to search for more sex slaves to take back to her home planet, Amazonia. They couldn’t see the words dancing, and this made Jou question his sanity. Furthermore, the question going around the school that this very room he was in used to be a freezer room where they kept bad children to feed at Parent Teacher Night.
"Katsuya-san?" The chipper teacher reiterated for the forth time, knocking Jounouchi from his thoughts. "Can you please explain to the class how to solve question forty-two on page four fifty-one?"
The teacher awaited patiently, her hands clasped together holding up the crimson red algebra two book against her chest. Jounouchi shifted in his seat, all eyes on him, whether they were bored, impatient, indifferent, or if they belonged to a cold hearted jackass, glaring with hatred, it intimidated him. Jounouchi took a quick look at the page, calculating as fast as he could in his head before turning up to his teachers smiling, full of wisdom, brown eyes and opened his mouth only to be interrupted by a deep, emotionless, voice,
"The answer is negative three ex plus four.”
The teacher blinked in surprise before straightening her lime green sweater and darting to see the inside of her special algebra two book with all the answers. She looked up, smoothing out a strand of hair that blocked her sight of the ice blue-eyed Seto Kaiba.
"Uh, yes that's right Kaiba-san... However your name is not Katsuya Jounouchi-"
"Like I'd ever want to be named after that stray dog," Kaiba leaned back in his desk, smirking. Jou growled in the CEO's direction, muttering something evil before yelling out, with one foot on his desk and both fists in the air,
"You bastard! That was my problem!"
Kaiba blinked, uninterested by Jounouchi’s invitation to a good ass kicking, and preceded to pick up where he left off in his novel that he had been reading. Everyone else in the class, bored at the sudden turn of events, returned to mindlessly staring at the chalk board and wishing the day would end already even if class had only begun thirty minutes ago.
“Katsuya-san, will you please have a seat?”
Jounouchi reluctantly sat down, closing his eyes and cussing out the blue eyed brunette in the process. He crossed his arms and opened his eyes again, watching as everyone continued their normal life as if nothing was supposed to happen. Out of Jounouchi’s peripheral vision Kaiba had set down his book, with his hands clasped together and in front of his mouth, watching the teacher with an indifferent expression.
‘Kaiba is even acting like nothing happened! That pompous jack ass!’ Jounouchi closed his eyes again, grinding his teeth together and trying to keep his cool. Suddenly a cold sensation crept its way around Jounouchi’s neck making his hair stand on end and his fingers twitch. Kaiba was watching him. Quickly, Jounouchi turned his head towards the back of the room and glared at Kaiba, daring him to try that again. Kaiba began to innocently type something, the clicks of the keys momentarily startling the teacher; a calming silence had settled in as she passed out papers.
Jounouchi returned to the front of the room and proceeded to squeeze his eyes shut and pull on his bangs. Frustrated and suddenly filled with determination he grabbed a hold of his nicely sharpened pencil, raised it high in the air aiming to stab the bastard right in his cold heart, and began his work for the day.
‘It’s better to just ignore him…’ Jou muttered to himself, creating his own Battle Royale in his mind, and snickered.
‘Anyway, -Simplify each expression-,’ Jou read off his worksheet. ‘Negative three double u squared n times double u n squared to the fourth power… Well okay, double u n squared is used four times so that would be…’ The blond tapped his pencil against his desk glaring down at the problem. ’Okay, one, two, three, four. Double u to the fourth and… One, two, three, four, five, six, seven. One two three four five six seven. One two… God damn it! There’s eight why can’t I process that?!’
It was then that Jounouchi realized a quiet tapping sound. He gripped his pencil harder and pressed it against the paper. The blond knew who it was. Who else could it be? Is he really doing this on purpose?
‘One.’ Tap. ‘Two.’ Tap. ‘Three.’ Tap. Tap, tap, tap. Snap. Jou broke his pencil.
“God damn it! Does your daily social life involve torturing me to no end?! Well, guess what?” Jou was now right in front of the blue eyed CEO, who had his arms crossed and looked about ready to yawn. Jounouchi was just ready to uppercut Kaiba, and at full force. However Kaiba had anticipated this movement he stood up and dodged as Jou came crashing, tripping over his briefcase and desk.
"Both of you stop it!" The teacher’s remarks were unheard as the two battled it out. The other students were encouraging them on, now having formed a semi circle around the two teens.
Jou slid the desk he had collided into at Kaiba’s feet to try to trip him. Kaiba jumped over the skidding desk but was head butted into the far wall. Kaiba grabbed hold of Jou’s shoulders, pushed himself off the wall before lifting Jou up off the ground by his jacket. Jou kicked and struggled and gave a startling punch to Kaiba’s face. Kaiba dropped the boy and stumbled back, wiping away blood from his mouth. Jou, unfazed from falling over the empty desks, stood again and smirked. Kaiba stared at the blood barely showing on his black turtle neck long-sleeve shirt. The CEO calmly walked toward the grinning Jounouchi and punched him real hard in the stomach. All air came rushing out of Jou's lungs as he fell back to the floor, his vision blurred. He saw the principal and a few other faculty members come rushing in, holding onto Kaiba and saying words to Jou that he couldn't even decipher.
‘Wow, I haven't felt like this in a long time. Huh? Why are they so worried about me? I'm perfectly fine! I'll get up and show them by kicking Kaiba's ass. Oh, I suddenly feel so sleepy.... I'll kick his ass in my dreams.’ With that Jounouchi closed his eyes, the shouts incoherent and the feeling all gone.
Jounouchi sat up quickly, on the blue plastic covered seat in the nurse’s office. With his shirt sleeve he wiped away the sweat that had been forming above his eyebrows. The sound of the train made him more aware of his surroundings. He stood in the well lit train car and straightened out his camouflage jacket and walked to the bathroom mirror. Jounouchi quickly inspected to see if his war paint rubbed off, the smiling man in the mirror pointed to the door just as it was knocked upon. Anzu walked in sporting the same camouflage outfit,
“Hey, are you ready?” She inquired.
“Come in,” Jou said picking up his bayonet and storming past her to the dinning car. Yugi immediately looked up from his plate of spaghetti and motioned for Jou to sit down in front of him.
“Jou, I’m so glad you made it.” From underneath the table a man that looked very similar to Yami, wearing a red trench coat, crawled out and jumped out the window. Jounouchi sat down and Yugi immediately begun,
“We’re here to discus the corporation’s newest mission. In about an hour we will be at ‘the cage’, once inside we must find any survivors. Report in then report out. Got that?”
Anzu, Yugi and Honda looked quizzically at their comrade waiting for a reply. Jou smiled at the attention not necessarily grasping the concept but going ahead with what they wanted.
“Hey, Yugi,” Jounouchi smiled receiving a pat on the back by Honda.
“Arigato, Jounouchi. It’s good to have you on the team. Who knows what crazy things might be going on down there?” Honda was tsked by Yugi.
“Hey, hey, there still might be living people down there.” Yugi waggled a finger at the brunette.
“Aw, come on now Yugi. I was only joking.” Honda tried to reason with his commander.
“I know that but you still shouldn’t make jokes like that.”
Jou turned away from Yugi scolding Honda and stared blankly out the window. The dark of night was alluring and just demanded to grab a hold of your attention and never let go. A flash of red as the mysterious stranger jumped out of the darkness and onto the train. In an instant, the lights shut off and everybody screamed.
“Jounouchi!!” It was Honda’s voice. From where Jou didn’t know. The screaming was gone but the darkness immovable. A loud shot echoed through his head and jolt his eyes open. There he was the Yami look-alike in a red coat. He was grinning like a madman towards Jounouchi and the blond couldn’t figure out what to say to him. Jou was in awe. The crimson coat reached out to Jou just like the night had and the Yami look-alike’s eyes held him there, in a cold, sadistic, yet comforting grasp.
“Jounouchi!” Honda screamed at him, “Shoot him!” Just as Honda’s call reached Jou’s ears, the Yami look-alike brought out a pair of machine guns and started rat-tat-tatting away. Jounouchi however was able to doge in time, but Honda, who was next to him wasn’t as lucky.
“Honda!” Jou shouted tears streaming down his face that he hadn’t known were there. The Yami look-alike smirked and ran off, down the mansions corridors, and jumped down the steps.
“Jou- Jounouchi…” Honda whispered spitting out blood, “Looks like I missed the shot. Guess since we met you Yugi, we’ve grown soft.”
Yugi was on his knees next to Honda, holding his hand and weeping uncontrollably.
“Honda-kun, yameru! You’re not going to…”
‘Die.’ Whispered in Jounouchi’s head.
“Yugi, Jounouchi… You guys were the best. Don’t miss the shot. Don’t miss your chan-” Honda began hacking, spewing up more blood, “…Chance.”
In a second Honda’s eyes became cloudy and he shut his eyes for the final time.
They had him cornered. The Yami look-alike. And it was time for Jounouchi’s revenge. He was in the back of the mansion, hiding in the storage closet. Anzu and Yugi shot at him but each time they missed. Now it was Jounouchi’s turn. He brought out his hand gun and aimed right at the Yami look-alike’s chest.
‘No.’ Whispered in his head. ‘You can’t shoot him. It’s Kaiba’s fault! He was the one behind the fall of the corporation!’ Jounouchi lowered his gun, amazingly the bullets just whizzed past him.
‘And yet…’ Jou watched a bullet hurtle itself towards Anzu and Yugi then swerve out the way. ‘And yet, he was Kaiba’s accomplice in this. Kaiba used him!’
A bullet screamed past Anzu, grazing her leg.
“You’re missing the shot dude,” Came Honda’s voice in the depths of Jounouchi‘s mind, “You have to shoot.”
‘No.’
A single bullet came hurtling out of the gun barrel, making the air around it warm from the pressure and aimed right at Yugi’s heart.
‘No.’
“You’re missing it,” Honda said it again, urging Jou further as he lifted the gun back to aiming. Jou’s hand was shaking.
‘No.’ His finger was on the trigger and the bullet was drawing nearer to Yugi.
“NO!!”
“Jounouch-kun?” Yami said, brushing Jou’s face with a soft warm hand.
“Uh?” Jou opened his eyes to the warm sun, Yami’s smiling face, and his fingers intertwined with the tri-hair colored boys smaller fingers.
“Jounouch-kun! If you don’t hurry you’re going to miss me beating all the records at the arcade!” Yami ran off down the street, leaving Jou in his wake, hubble-bubbled.
“Matte! Yugi!” Jou ran after him laughing and enjoying the summer’s breeze. A loud screech was heard, and the dark of night came back all too quickly.
“Yugi?” Jounouchi was suddenly filled with dread. There was blood. Everywhere. The rain was cold. The car’s front window was shattered. And there was blood.
Jounouchi sat up so quickly he toppled over and onto the floor of the nurse’s office.
"Ack. Ow..." Jou sat up and looked around the tiny enclosed, carpeted room. An empty desk littered with paper was over near one door. A potted plant sat on the other side of another door. A glass red wood table sat in front of him while he sat on an uncomfortable two-seat burgundy sofa and another single-seat chair to the left of the sofa. Jounouchi grumbled about not kicking Kaiba’s ass and yawned.
‘Speaking of Kaiba… Where the hell is he?’ Jou stretched his arms and made his way to the front of the office.
‘Where is he? He should be in the same amount of trouble as I am. That bastard.’ Shrugging away his quest to go kick Kaiba’s ass, he wandered about in search for the nurse.
“Hello?” Jou called out, but no one was there at the moment so he opened the door and walked out into the hallway.
Yay! Finally! I fixed this! I promised that whenever I have time away from my school work I’ll immediately post up more! Thank you so much reviewers! ^_^ However, now I must go *groans* and write my biology paper…
