Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Unwell ❯ The One and Only Chapter ( Chapter 1 )
MG-look! My first songfic! Oh yeah!
Marik-what's your problem? As far as I'm concerned, you're crazier than I am and that's pretty crazy
MG-You don't know how many people have told me that.
Marik-Well it's no surprise.
MG- Uh huh. Whatever let's just start the story, k? Marik do the disclaimer
Marik-okay. If Maliksgirl1125 owned me, she be living in Japan and probably be a lot smarter than she is now.
MG-Don't forget Marik. This songfic's about you. I can mess it up and MAKE you do something humiliating
Marik-like what?
MG-Like this. Toilet appears out of nowhere and MG shoves Marik's head in bowl and flushes
MG-Here's my songfic. Enjoy!
Disclaimer-I don't own Yugioh or the song Unwell by Matchbox 20.
It was a dreadfully rainy day in Domino City. Marik Ishtar slowly walked home from the Domino City Museum. His sister, Ishizu, was going back to Egypt tomorrow. Marik had gone to say goodbye and say he was sorry beyond words, but she wouldn't forgive him. She just turned her back. She didn't even care.
As Marik remembered exactly what Ishizu had said, he stopped.
Flashback
"Marik, it was your own stupidity and quest for power that got you in this mess. It's your fault and I want you out of my life!"
"But that's why I came sister! I wish to apolo-"
"Don't call me your sister! I want nothing to do with you! I'm leaving tomorrow and I hope I never see you again!"
End Flashback
Marik cast his eyes downward. He thought that Ishizu would forgive him. But she didn't.
"Why Ishizu? Why do you hate me so?" Marik whispered. He knew the answer, but he didn't want to believe it. Marik then saw his shadow. He then realized that his shadow was his only friend. Just his shadow.
~All day staring at the ceiling
making friend with shadows
on my wall~
Then, he could hear Ishizu's voice when they were younger. Marik was always hearing sounds in the middle of the night and Ishizu was always there to comfort him and tell him to go to sleep.
~All night hearing voices
telling me that I should
get some sleep because
Tomorrow might be good
for something. Hold on.
I think that am headed for a
Breakdown and I don't know
Why~
Marik was broken from Ishizu's words. He just wanted to fall to his knees and cry. So he did.
"What's wrong with me!" Marik screamed in anger and grief. "Am I going crazy? Have I lost my mind? But how can that be? Malik was the crazy one. Not me. It can't be me. It can't. It's just not fair! I can change Ishizu! I truly can!"
~But I'm not crazy I'm just a little
unwell I know, right now you
can't tell. But stay a while and
Maybe then you'll see
A different side of me
I'm not crazy I'm just
A little impaired I know
Right now you don't care
But soon enough you're
Gonna think of me, and
How I used to be~
Marik was at the airport the next day to watch his sister go back to Egypt. He tried to talk to Ishizu before she boarded the plane, but she just ignored him. He watched the plane fly off into the distance before going to the train station.
"Money please." Said the train driver. But all Marik said as he handed over the toll was
"I can't believe you betrayed me Ishizu. Why sister? Why?" The driver stared at him blankly. Marik just went to sit down in the back of the train. Throughout the whole ride, Marik debated with himself and got a number of countless stares and whispers from other passengers.
~Me, talking to myself in public
Dodging glances on the train
I know I know they've all been
Talking 'bout me I can hear
Them whisper and it makes
Me think there must be
Something wrong with me
Out of all the hours thinking
That somehow I've lost my
Mind~
Marik heard them whisper and saw them stare, but that just made him think that he was insane. He knew that was what everyone everywhere called him. Now he was alone with no one to comfort him. Not even Odion.
Marik got off a stop early. He walked down the street to the Hospital. He had made up his mind. He was going to see Odion for the first time since Battle City.
"Hello sir. May I help you?" The nurse at the counter said.
"Hai, I wish to see the patient in room 13 please." Marik said in a monotone voice.
"Let's see...Odion Ishtar been in a coma for three weeks. Follow me. If you need assistance, press the red button next to the door." As she led him into the room, he thought about how much longer Odion could be in a coma. He knew it was his fault that Odion was like this. If Marik hadn't been so uptight about hiding his identity, Odion just might be awake.
Marik sat down in a chair next to Odion's cot. He looked at his expressionless face. Marik could see Odion waking up at that very moment right in front of Marik. But he knew it wouldn't happen. It was only in his thoughts.
~But I'm not crazy I'm just
A little unwell I know right
Now you can't tell but stay a
While and maybe then you'll
See a different side of me. I'm
Not crazy I'm just a little
Impaired I know right now
You don't care but soon
Enough you're gonna think
Of me and how I used to be~
"I'm so sorry Odion. It's my fault you're here." Marik said sadly. "If I wouldn't have been so desperate to get the god cards, you wouldn't be in this mess. You'd be out on your own, free to do whatever you want. You wouldn't be my Hunter anymore. You'd be completely self-dependant, as would I.
Marik left the Hospital four hours later and took the bus home. By then it was eight 'o' clock. He then took a shower and immediately fell asleep. Marik had the strangest dreams that night. Odion and Ishizu were walking away from his eleven-year-old self. Even when he called out to them, they wouldn't slow down.
"Ishizu! Odion! Please wait! Don't leave me alone!!" Ishizu and Odion then disappeared as Marik was engulfed by darkness.
"Brother! Sister! Please help me!" Bu they didn't answer.
~I've been talking in my sleep
Pretty soon they'll come
To get me. They'll be taking
Me away~
Marik woke drenched in a cold sweat. He was trembling uncontrollably. His platinum hair was plastered to his face. He pushed his hair out of his eyes and checked the clock. It was two in the morning. He tried to go back to sleep, but it was impossible, so he got up for the day.
Five hours later, his telephone rang. He first thought about not answering, but despite his hate for calls, he answered the phone.
"Moshi moshi. Marik Ishtar speaking."
"Marik, this is Doctor Takana. I have some good news for you. Odion has woken up from a coma." Marik's heart skipped a beat. "His first demand was to see you. Please come over to the hospital as soon as possible."
"Yes Doctor. I'll be there in ten minutes. Arigato gozaimashita." Marik slammed the phone down on the base. He grabbed his shoes and ran out the door into the pouring rain.
He arrived at the hospital dripping wet. He met Doctor Takana at the front desk. He took Marik into Odion's room. Their Odion was, sitting on his cot staring out the window. As he heard someone approach his room, he turned to the door. Marik and Odion stared at each other for five seconds before Marik slowly approached.
"O-O-O-Odion. Are you really okay? I've been so worried." Marik paused and waited for an answer.
"Marik. I'm so sorry. It's my fault you lost the God Cards. It's all my-" Marik interrupted him instantly.
"I don't care about the God Cards anymore. I only care if you're going to be alright or not." Marik looked at Odion with an answer me now type of look.
"I'll be fine. It hurts to stand up but that's all." Odion replied. Doctor Takana entered the room.
"I'm sorry Mr. Ishtar, you'll have to leave the room. We have to do a few tests to make sure everything's alright. You may stay in the waiting room until the tests are over."
Marik went out to the waiting room. He waited for twenty minutes before slowly drifting off to sleep. Some time later, he was awoken by a hand on his shoulder. It was Odion. He was off of the IV and out of the hospital.
"Master Marik. The Doctor says I can leave now with your permission. Sign the sheet and let's get out of here."
"Alright Odion. Hold on a minute. Oh and Odion?"
"Yes?"
"Stop calling me master." Odion was shocked. He never would've dreamed of hearing those words from Marik's mouth.
Marik signed the release papers and left the Hospital. It had stopped raining, so Marik and Odion walked to the apartment they had rented before Battle City. On their arrival, Marik started talking to Odion.
"Well Odion, since you're out of the hospital and you have nothing here in Domino City, your life is your own now. You are free to do whatever you want." Marik sighed. He didn't want to have Odion leave him, but he thought that's what was needed.
"But Marik I don't want to leave! I have to stay by your side and protect you! I promised myself that I would never leave your side!" Odion exclaimed.
"I release you from all promises that you made. You shouldn't stay with someone who put you in a coma for nearly a month. They could truly harm you. I don't deserve a brother like you." Marik buried his face in his hands. He couldn't bear to look at Odion.
Odion kneeled at Marik's side and uncovered his face.
"Are you saying I can live anywhere I want? I can choose to do what I want when I want?" Odion said staring into Marik's iridescent eyes.
"Hai, your life is your own. You can do whatever you choose." Marik whimpered. He didn't want Odion to leave, but in his heart, he knew it must be done.
"Then I choose to stay here and watch over you. You are my brother and I care for you. I would die for you. I would sell my soul for you. I would and have given my freedom...for you."
Marik's expression went blank. Did Odion really want to stay with a man who wanted to murder an ancient spirit and his Hikari?
" Why d-d-do you w-want to st-tay with me? My Yami wanted to k-k-kill..." Marik couldn't bring himself to say the last words.
"That was your Yami. Not you. You are NOT the evil person you think you are. You have a pure soul now. Pure. Please Marik. Believe me." The tone in Odion's voice told Marik he was serious.
~But I'm not crazy I'm just
A little unwell I know right
Now you can't tell but stay
A while and maybe then you'll
See a different side of me~
Marik dried his eyes and stood up straight. In a cool voice he said,
"It is your life. If you wish to stay in Domino City, it's your choice." Without a word, Odion stood up to exit Marik's apartment, but as he turned the doorknob he said three words
" Thank you...brother." All Marik could do was run up and embrace Odion.
~I'm not crazy I'm just
A little impaired I know
Right now you don't care
But soon enough you're
Gonna think of me and
How I used to be. Hey
How I used to be
