Chapter4: Ryou makes a friend

By Yami Kitsune

Ryou sat on the bed, knees drawn up to his chest and his arms wrapped around them. He continued to stare at the window. He didn't like it in here, he felt like a bird in a cage. So far every one had been treating him nicely, but that was beside the point. Ryou was sure Yugi and Malik were looking for him now, and he was scared to think what the hunters might to do them if they found them. More importantly, he was scared to think what they would do to him when they found out he had lied to them.

Ryou glanced at the door when he heard it open. Bakura came in and walked over to him. Ryou just turned his head away to look at the wall.

"How are you feeling?" Bakura asked sitting down on the chair next to the bed.

"I want to go home…" Ryou said softly. Bakura sighed.

"I know you do, but we can't let you go right now. Not until we can find out who's killing people."

"I told you it was me!" Ryou said looking at him with wide eyes. If he didn't convince them that he was the one killing people, then Malik and Yugi wouldn't be safe.

"You can stop taking the blame on yourself Ryou. We saw the news, and they said they found another body with the same mark on the chest." Bakura smiled at the look of shock on Ryou's face.

"So I'm guessing the vampire…or vampires that did this are your friends?" Bakura asked. Ryou nodded slowly and looked away again.

"Why didn't you tell us before?"

"If I did…you would hunt them down and kill them." Ryou answered and looked a little sad.

"Yes, we would have to. Its are job to keep humans safe." Bakura said reaching out to put a hand no Ryou's shoulder. Ryou pulled away and glared at him.

"Its your job to keep humans safe?! Well where were hunters when I was changed huh?! Where were they when I needed protecting?! Or any other vampire out there who never asked for this immortal curse!" Ryou yelled at him. Bakura was a bit shocked by this outburst. He had never thought of stuff like that, all he did was kill vampires that killed humans. He didn't think that at one point in their lives they had been human as well.

"I'm sorry. I never thought of that before. I just assumed that all vampires were evil and wanted to kill all humans. That is they way I was taught."

"I didn't mean to yell…" Ryou sighed lowering his voice. "It just gets me mad that humans judge us because we have to live off their blood." Ryou turned away from him and wrapped his arms around himself.

"What if I promise that we wont hurt your friends? Then will you tell me where they are?" Bakura asked. Ryou shook his head; if he couldn't keep himself safe from these hunters at least he could keep Yugi and Malik safe and just hope that they moved onto a different city soon. Bakura sighed and nodded.

"You can tell us when your ready." With that he stood up and left the room, locking the door behind him.

Mokuba was in his brothers' room looking at all his stuff. He liked to come in here and see his brothers' weapons. He wasn't aloud to touch them though; he didn't mind he knew he wasn't old enough to use them yet.

He jumped when he heard the door swing open and Seto came in. Seto looked at his little brother who smiled at him.

"I need to get some sleep Mokuba." Was all he said as he went over to his bed. Mokuba nodded and left the room. Now he needed to find something else to do. He walked down stairs and went into the living room where Yami, Joey and Marik were just getting ready to go out.

"Hey guys where are you going?" Mokuba asked. Yami looked at him and smiled.

"Were just going out for a little while." He answered the small hunter in training. Bakura came in the room when he heard that.

"Wait for me, I'm coming to."

"Bakura don't you have to stay and watch Ryou?" Marik asked.

"I just checked on him. And Seto, Tristen and Mokuba are here to watch him and make sure he doesn't get out." Bakura said grabbing his coat.

"If you say so." Marik shrugged.

"Mokuba I don't want you going down there with Ryou, we still don't know what he will do to get out." Yami said. Mokuba nodded and waved to them as they left. He looked at the door leading down to where they were keeping Ryou. He hadn't been aloud to see Ryou when they first brought him here, and he still wasn't. But he had never seen a vampire up close.

Mokuba looked around to make sure Tristen wasn't any where around before he went down to see Ryou. Mokuba was quite going down the stairs making no noise until he came to the door. He opened it slowly; he looked in and saw Ryou sitting on the bed looking at him.

"Who are you?" Ryou asked as Mokuba came in the room. Ryou was a bit surprised to see someone this young living with the hunters.

"I'm Mokuba…what's your name?" Mokuba asked closing the door behind him and walking slowly over to Ryou.

"Ryou…" Ryou looked at him. This little hunter wasn't like the others.

"What's it like being a vampire?" Mokuba asked sitting down on the bed next to Ryou. Ryou looked at him that was a question he had never been asked before and he wasn't sure how to answer it.

"Being a vampire isn't as fun as it sounds." Ryou said and watched Mokuba get more comfortable.

"What is it that you don't like?" Mokuba asked.

"Well for starters, I can't go out in the sunlight." Ryou brought a hand up to his eye and touched the still burned skin there. It still stung a little bit, but the water that Marik had put on the burns had helped.

"That must suck. I don't know what I would do if I wasn't able to go out in the sun any more."

"I don't remember what its like to be in the sun, only now it hurts. The other down side to being a vampire, I have to live off blood of humans. And I don't like killing."

"Then why do you? I thought that vampires could also live off blood of animals."

"They can, but we can't. Me and my friends are to weak to be able to do that."

"There are others like you?" Ryou nodded. "What are there names?"

"I…If I tell you, you can't tell anyone." Mokuba nodded. "Yugi and Malik. They have taken care of me ever sense I was young."

"Were you friends as human's as well?" Mokuba asked looking very interested. Ryou shook his head.

"No, I didn't meet them until I was almost fifty."

"Are there any things you like about being a vampire?" Ryou smiled and nodded.

"Yes, I like being able to fly. And I have seen so many things happen."

"Is there anything you wish you could do?"

"Why do you ask so many questions?"

"Am I bothering you?" Ryou shook his head.

"No, its nice to have someone to talk to."

"You can talk to Bakura…"

"I don't really like any one here. They're keeping me locked up down here because they're afraid of me."

"They just don't want any one hurt."

"I know."

"So are you ganna answer my question?"

"What was that?"

"Is there any thing you wish you could do?" Mokuba asked again. Ryou had to think about this. There were lots of thins he wished he could do, but one popped into his head that he thought would make Mokuba laugh.

"I'd like to go to McDonalds and get a big-mac." Ryou smiled as Mokuba started laughing.

"Yeah, those are good." Mokuba smiled. They continued talking asking each other questions. And for the first time sense he was brought here Ryou found a friend.

Up stairs Tristen had been looking around, but couldn't find any one home. He found Seto fast asleep in his room but that was it. Every one else had gone out. He locked Seto in his room so he wouldn't be able to get out if he woke up. Tristen was going to get some answers out of the little vampire one way or another.

He went down to the room Ryou was in and opened the door. He was surprised to see Mokuba and Ryou sitting on the bed laughing. They both stopped laughing and looked at Tristen who was glaring at them.

"Tristen? Is something wrong?" Mokuba asked. Ryou moved behind Mokuba to try and hide from Tristen.

"I just came down to check on the vampire." Tristen was still glaring. "But it looks like he's doing fine. What are you doing down here any way Mokuba?"

"I wanted to see Ryou. I had never seen a vampire up close before." Tristen nodded.

"Well you better get back up stairs before the others get back. Or your brother wakes up." Mokuba nodded.

"I'll see if I can come down and visit you again Ryou." Ryou smiled and nodded watching Mokuba hop off the bed and leave.

"Just wait vampire, I will be back to talk." Tristen growled and left the room as well. Ryou started wide eyed at the door, if Tristen meant what he said then Ryou had to get out of here now.

Ok sorry it took so long to get this chapter up. I had writers block and didn't know what I wanted to happen. But now I'm back and this is coming along pretty well. I don't know when the next chapter will be done but I will put it up as soon as I am done with it. And if any one has any ideas for what could happen let me know. And sorry for all you Tristen fans out there, I never did like Tristen and he wasn't really supposed to be evil in this but it just kinda happened. Well I'll go get started on the next chapter Ja ne!
