Voglia Di Dance All Night

Chapter Twelve:

The next evening, Anzu lay cuddled up next to Seto on the couch. They were both adorned in their nightwear - she in a light blue pair of pants and shirt and he in a dark blue, silk pair. In front of them the fire was cackling radiantly, heating the room and giving off a faint glow in the darkness.

Anzu was nervous in Seto's arms. She felt as though she didn't belong there. She still felt ashamed just being in the same room as him, and being so close to him like she was now made her heart sink in her chest. She knew it must be guilt. She was still feeling bad for cheating on Seto. He loved her so much...and she had gone off and gotten drunk and did something completely idiotic. If their relationship was destroyed, it would be entirely her fault.

“Anzu, are you alright?”

The brunette looked up, meeting two dark blue eyes. She gave a slow nod, and it was obvious to the other occupant of the couch that she was hiding something. “Seto...I'm just not feeling well. I...” She met his gaze, her own clear blue eyes becoming dull and saddened. How she wanted so badly to tell him the truth. But she didn't want to ruin what she had. She was so scared...so scared of losing him.

And yet, at the same time, she wanted to lose him. If he left her, she could be with Yami. And, even though it was wrong of her to think such things, she would be happy if she could go back to Yami. But she couldn't deny that she wanted to stay with Seto. She wanted both of them. She loved both of them so much.

Closing her eyes, Anzu lowered her head so it was parallel to the floor. “Seto...what if one day, b-by accident, I cheated on you? What would you say if I told you?”

Seto blinked, obviously startled by the question. Sitting up straight, he faced the fireplace which was directly in front of him. “If you cheated on me..? Anzu, why in the world are you asking me something like this?” He already had a hunch, because as soon as she said it, a vision of her kissing that tri-haired man at the school the other week came to mind. But the man had defended Anzu...he had said that it was he who came onto her. Anzu was innocent.

Suddenly, the lawyer had a feeling that that wasn't so. And he felt stupid for not figuring that out sooner, since he was used to figuring out when people were lying due to his job.

“Does this by any chance have to do with a certain Mr. Mutou?” the blue-eyed man asked, keeping his gaze fixed straight ahead.

The brown -haired woman bit her lip. “I...you didn't answer my question, Seto.”

“And you didn't answer mine.”

Anzu felt sweat form on her forehead. `Seto must know already...as soon as I asked him that question something must have clicked. He's a lawyer, he can piece things together. And he's certainly pieced this situation together perfectly.'

Seto sighed, sitting up straighter. He folded his arms across his chest and turned his steely blue eyes on his fiancé. “I love you Anzu, you know that. I love you more than anything on this earth. But I'm not going to lie to you and say that I'd be okay if you went and cheated on me one day. But if you told me right away and didn't keep it a secret, I probably wouldn't be as angry. I think the thing that would hurt me the most is not the idea of you cheating on me, but knowing that you didn't trust me enough to tell me the truth in fear of what my reaction would be.”

He smiled gently at her, a dimple appearing on his right cheek. “You should know I'd never leave you no matter what happens between us. That's why I gave you that ring,” he took her left hand in his, fingering the engagement ring lightly. “I proposed because I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you. Despite the bad things that may happen down the road, I made a promise with this ring that I would stick by your side through it all. I love you, Anzu.”

Anzu turned her face away from his, feeling tears stinging at the back of her eyes. She wanted to tell him the truth, she really did. But she was afraid. Even after what he had just told her, she was still afraid of what his reaction would be. Leaning forward, she placed her head on Seto's shoulder, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck. “Seto, I love you so much,” she whispered, feeling her heart begin to hurt in her chest. “I...I'm sorry...I'm so sorry.”

Seto didn't need her to tell him what for. He knew what she was apologizing about. She had cheated on him with that man; that was as clear as day. He couldn't say he was very angry, either, because he had already seen it coming. And now she was telling him - or at least trying to through her sobs.

“Anzu,” he said, stopping her from saying anything further. “I know already, you don't have to tell me. Thank you for trying, though.”

“Y-you're...you're not...” Anzu hiccupped, the tears still streaming from her eyes. “You're not a-angry with me-e?” The lawyer shook his head. “W-why?”

Seto wrapped his arms around her waist and began rubbing her back in a soothing manner. “Because, and I've said this so many times already, I love you. I don't care what happens between us. Well, I won't lie it does make me mad that you could cheat on me, but I won't hold it against you. I love you and I want to be happy.” He suddenly pulled away from her, standing up from the couch. “I just want to know if you love him or not. If you do, then I want you to give me my ring back and be with him.”

Anzu jumped off the couch, staring at her fiancé in disbelief. What did he just say?!

The lawyer, having read the expression on her face, gave a sad, lopsided grin. “I want you to really think this through, Anzu. Think of who you'd rather be with...and don't just say you want to stay with me to make me feel good. I honestly want to know who you love more. And whoever that is, I want you to walk down the aisle with at the church on the day of the wedding. I want you to be with who you love. That will truly make me happy.”

“I...I...” The azure-eyed woman sighed loudly. “Seto I don't know...I can't answer that question.”

“I didn't say you had to tell me now. I just want you to think about it. When you have an answer, tell me what it is.”

Seto leaned forward, placing a kiss on top of her head and then quietly exiting the room. Anzu stood behind, a distant look on her face. She fell back heavily onto the couch, burying her head into one of the velvety cushions.

`Choose...between Yami and Seto? I...I don't know if I can do that. I love them both so much that no matter who I choose I will always long for the other. If I chose one then I'd always fear if I had made the wrong choice. Who do I love more...? I can't even answer that...I can't even make a guess. I love them both for their own reasons. Seto is so strong and protective, and I'm really the only one he ever opened up his heart for - except for Mokuba, that is - but...'

Anzu wrapped her arms around herself, thinking of the tri-haired fashion designer. `Yami was my first love. He's always so kind and caring, and he's so compassionate. They both love me so much, I know that. They would give me anything I asked for. They would love me if I wanted them to...and either of them would leave me if I wanted them to.'

“Yami...Seto...I love you.”

OOOOOOOO

“One more game, daddy! One more!”

Yami sighed, rubbing his sore shoulders. “Daddy's tired right now, Mosi,” he said, tiredly making his way over to the couch. “We'll play another game later, I promise.”

Mosi grabbed his father's arm, trying to pull him in the other direction. “Aw, come on! You play with Sagira all the time!”

“Playing with Sagira involves tea parties, not having my son beat the living daylights out of me in a game of wrestling,” the crimson-eyed man joked, grabbing the blonde boy and pulling him onto his lap. “One of these days I'm going to get you back, you know.”

The child stuck his tongue out. “Yeah right, you suck at wrestling! I was taught by Mariku; you could never beat me!”

Yami smirked. “Is that so?” he asked, raising an eyebrow. When the boy nodded he pinned him down and started tickling the child's stomach mercilessly.

Mosi started shrieking with laughter, kicking his legs up in order to throw his father off of him.

“Atemu!”

Yami sat up, letting go of his son. Mosi took the opportunity to scramble free and run out of the living room. Once he was gone, Isis came over and sat down on the couch. She smiled at the tri-haired man, reaching over and placing a hand on his shoulder. “You two seem to be getting along better.”

The Egyptian man nodded in agreement. “Yes, I'm very happy that he can finally see me as his father. I know at first he didn't really accept it but I'm glad he now does.” The doorbell rang and he excused himself. “It's probably Yugi needing assistance with the groceries.” He chuckled and walked over to the front door, opening it slowly.

He was surprised to see that it wasn't Yugi at the door. It was Anzu.

Yami blinked a few times and then a smile spread across his face. “Well hello, aren't you at the wrong house?” he questioned, leaning against the door. He winked playfully at her before stepping aside. “Come on in.”

Anzu shook her head. “Actually, I was hoping you could come out,” she replied, not looking directly up at him.

The tri-haired man nodded slowly. “Oh, um...okay.” He stepped out of the house and closed the door softly behind him. “What is it? Is something wrong?” His eyes narrowed as a thought came to him. “Kaiba hasn't hurt you, has he?” he asked, placing his hands firmly on her shoulders.

The brunette chuckled, pushing the other's hands off of her. “No, Seto hasn't done anything wrong. I...I have, actually, but that's why I came here. I...I needed to set everything right.”

Yami frowned, an ominous feeling clouding over his heart. “Set everything right?” he repeated, beginning to realize what was happening. “Anzu, I...”

“No, Yami,” Anzu cut him off, pressing a finger to his lips. She fought down the blush that threatened to make its way across her cheeks. His lips were so warm, despite how cold the temperature was around them. “I need to apologize for a few things.” She brought her hand back to her side and took a deep, shuddering breath. “I...I wanted to say how sorry how was...for everything that's happened between us these past few weeks. It's entirely my fault; and because of my stupid actions, I made you believe that there was still a chance for us to work.”

The fashion designer didn't say anything. He lowered his crimson eyes slowly, fixing them on the pavement of the front porch. He knew this was coming. He had just known that Anzu would soon come to him and tell him that it was finally over. Even after ten years of waiting, he'd be left with nothing. His love would never be returned.

“I'm getting married in three months, Yami. Seto and I have already started planning it, and it's going to be a wonderful celebration. I'm so happy to be with Seto...I...I hope you can understand and accept my choice to stay with him,” the brunette explained, keeping her eyes focused on his chest; not daring to look up into his eyes for fear of what she might see in their scarlet depths.

“You were my first love, Yami, and the feelings I had for you, even though we broke up, they never really went away. But I have to make them go away. We're not meant to be together. I think that if anything these past occurrences with you have taught me, it's that we had our chance and that our being together in the end is simply not going to happen. We have two completely separate lives and commitments. Mine are with Seto, and yours are with your new family.”

Yami nodded. “I understand.” He turned his angled orbs on hers, giving a weak smile. “I really understand, and you're probably right. We had our chance all those years ago and it just wasn't meant to be.” He stuffed his hands in his pockets, continuing to speak. “I am truly happy for you and Seto. I'm glad you did find someone special to spend your life with. If...if it's not inappropriate of me to ask, I wonder if... perhaps... I could get and invitation to the wedding?”

Anzu wiped away the tears that were forming. How could the Egyptian be so calm? How could he act so considerate? Why was he so happy for her?! If she were in his shoes, she'd be sobbing and begging him to reconsider his choice. But...Yami wasn't like her. He wasn't like that. He'd put her happiness before his own, and that just made the brunette feel all the more guilty for doing this to him.

Coming forward, Anzu wrapped her arms tenderly around the tri-haired man's neck. “I promise, yours will be the first invitation I send,” she vowed, hugging him tightly. She rested her head on his shoulder and sighed, feeling his body tense by the action. “I really am sorry about all this...but deep down, I know it has to be the right thing to do. I don't want to hurt you, Yami. I really don't. You deserve so much...you deserve to be the happiest man alive...and I'm sorry I can't make you that.” She pulled away slowly, placing a small kiss on his cheek. “Go back to Isis...live a good life with the family you have with her.”

Without even waiting for him to respond, Anzu broke away from Yami and made her way down the driveway of the Mutou house for one final time. She didn't look back. She knew if she did, she would burst into tears and run back into those strong, tanned arms of her first love. And she couldn't do that. She had to be with Seto...to be loyal and to love only him.

After all, that was the right thing to do...

...Right?
