They reached Mai's house, and Tea looked to Yugi for reassurance, gathered herself, breathing deeply, and knocked firmly on the door.
Mai answered a minute later, looking flustered, tired, and as if she had cried herself to sleep the night before and tried to cover it with makeup. Her first reaction when she threw open the door was, “Nice look Yugi. I would have used violet, though, Tea.” Her intense, bright gaze that never left Tea belied her casual greeting. She guided them to the living room, plopping in the armchair when Yugi and Tea took the couch.
“Nice to see you guys today. Do you want anything?” When Tea shook her head and Yugi followed suit, Mai continued, “I take it we can have a reasonable conversation now?” Her sardonic tone made Tea shift hesitantly.
“Could you two try to be nice to each other?” Yugi muttered.
Tea flushed, and opening and closing her mouth several times before she got the courage to speak. “Mai, Yugi was nice enough to try and talk me through this, and I see where you're coming from, but Mai, I—why can't we keep seeing each other? I mean, I really like you. I want to be with you. I can't just `sit back and think about it!'” Tea clasped and unclasped her hands in her lap, grateful the mascara she wore was waterproof. Just in case.
“Tea...” Mai's gaze dropped to her lap, her feet shifting hesitantly. She couldn't think straight, honestly. Right now, Tea's reasoning made good enough sense. Still, she'd made her decision for a reason. Why did that reason seem so unimportant now?
Tea's brown eyes widened, and she dug her manicured nails into her palms. “It's better if we're together though. I mean, whether we stay together or not in the long run, the only way to know for sure if it can work out between us is to try.”
“You were trying very hard when you pushed me away, weren't you? You weren't thinking too much about staying together when you were too afraid to let me touch you.” Mai's eyes blazed cold, obviously hurt.
“I'm sorry I flipped! I didn't mean to...” her voice trailed off, and she looked away. “I didn't mean to flip out like that. It was just too much too fast, but I do want to be with you, please.”
“Look, Tea,” Mai blew out a sigh and combed a hand through her hair, “I'll stay friends with you regardless. I don't want to lose that, not now, not ever, but I want you to think about it before we push ourselves into a relationship that could ruin our friendship. You mean more to me than that, and I don't want to lose you!”
“I did think about it, baby. I was up all night thinking about it. I want to be with you, and there's no way you're pushing me away like this. I want you.”
“You had a lot of time to think between last night and this morning, I'm sure.” Mai's brutal reasoning bore into Tea's confidence, and it was hard for her to meet the older girl's gaze. Yugi wanted to help her, and found himself opening his mouth but closing it again. This was their discussion, and they needed to work things out by themselves.
“Please, just, can we please jut try to make this work?” Tea knew her brown eyes were about to spill over, and could only hope Mai would give in before she got hysterical. That would only annoy Mai, which was the last thing she wanted.
Mai found her resolve wavering further. She didn't want to hurt Tea like this, but this was for Tea's own good. Still, the girl's arguments made far too much sense right now. Problems could be solved when they arose. For now, they could try.
“Alright.” Mai met Tea's eyes firmly, her tone serious. “But, if you get cold feet about anything, and I mean anything, you willtell me.”
Tea nodded and stood, barely remembering to breathe, taking the few tentative steps that brought her to Mai. Pulling the older girl up, Tea wrapped her arms around her, burying delicate fingers in the platinum hair. “Kiss me?” Tea closed her eyes, holding Mai as tightly as she could, holding her breath until the brush of smooth, damp lips. Tea kissed back, suckling, her tongue answering Mai's prodding. When they pulled apart, Tea murmured, “You were going to let me go?”
“Nah. I knew you'd come back to me.” Tea giggled happily, squeezing tight and burying her face in Mai's hair.
Mai chuckled, content to hold Tea comfortingly. “Well, since you're all dressed up, maybe we ought to go somewhere.” Her hand fiddled with the hem of Tea's dress, and she teasingly tugged the cloth up.
Tea squeaked and shoved her away. “Not when Yugi's watching!” Mai looked up.
“Oh, hello again Yugi. Do you want to go and entertain Yami?”
Yugi laughed. “I'm almost jealous of you two. That was probably the most painless fight a couple has ever had. And if you're insinuating what I think, then no.”
“Hah,” laughed Tea, “Yugi thinks Yami's straight!”
Mai raised a skeptical eyebrow. “Well, it is possible, but...” and she bent over laughing. Suppressing the laughter for a moment, she added, “but no one would ever believe it.”
Tea just smirked when Yugi flushed and looked down. He honestly did not have time for a boyfriend—even Yami—and he didn't want the girls playing matchmaker. Unfortunately, the idea of it wasn't entirely unappealing.

Rock to the rhythm
Twist against me, girl
Rock to the rhythm
We can be here all night
Flickering colors and lights, in strobe lights both jerky and fluid the movement flowed and blended together with the grating beat of the music. Sight and sound bled into the elusive, fleeting, transcendental touch. Ryou giggled hysterically, twisting around Bakura, watching life turn red, the golden, then a ghostly white. The rhythm came like a heart beat, shaking the floor, the whole building with the whispered, erotic music that the dancers felt more than heard.
Under
Under my skin
Seeping into my soul
The cloying scents of sweat, mingled bodies, and sweet, heady perfume assailed Ryou's nostrils. Moving with and through the collective body of the crowded club, he felt Bakura's whispered words, hands tracing his body, the brush of his hair on his cheeks. It felt like a dream, grazing, barely there, but flowing so deep, far more real than a dream.
Under my skin
Seeping into my soul
Here you are with me
And when we let go
You've touched me forever
Forever...
In blissful abandon, Bakura and Ryou danced, touching, moving together and apart, forgetting identity in the endless rhythm. All that mattered was the present, the here and now, and all time was encompassed in that one fragmented moment of being. The intoxicating high of adrenaline and giddy, unreasonable happiness never left them—not when they collapsed into the car at one am, or when they collapsed exhausted into each other's arms, sex still lingering in the air and in their blood. It didn't leave them during the night as they held each other, or the next day when they woke around two pm.
Perhaps it would never leave them.
“Most couples have their troubles later, when they're falling apart,” Bakura murmured while soaping Ryou's back. “We've already had so much trouble, though.”
Ryou turned himself in Bakura's embrace, lips meeting lips in a wet, sloppy, happy kiss. “Maybe we can stay happy forever, then,” and they kissed again, soul searching and deep.
Neither wished to mention that all good things end, for perhaps...could it last forever?

No, you may not do anything horrid to me. I'm sorry. I have plenty of excuses, not the least of which being that my mom had a deadline and needed the computer, but I'm trying to quit the habit of making excuses, because it was my fault. So yeah, I'm sorry. I hope this chapter meets your approval. I've made a point to have something in each chapter with RxB, partially for you and partially cos it's fun, so that shouldn't be a problem....
Please review, and I love all of you who have in the past. (As a shameless plug, if anyone read Vampire Game, could you please check out my ficcy, “Hidden Even from the Sun?”)
Love ya minna-san!
